Kuza turned to look over at the voice. Birds... that was an idea.. and she knew one that would just love to go cause trouble for some lions...
As if summoned by her very thoughts, a shadow winged across the ground and a moment later a pair of sharp claws dug into her shoulder. "Ouch... Hi Aiolos." She greeted the big male falcon with a faint grin.Aiolos huffed, digging his claws a little deeper into the lioness's red pelt. "Hi yourself Kuza... whats all this going on then?" He let go to hop up onto her head, something he knew irritated his old friend. And indeed a moment later the deep growl below him made him snicker. "A meeting I see.. what about?"Kuza huffed and shook her head (carefully mind you) to encourage the infuriating falcon to go back down to her shoulder. "About the pride's future... the water is still low and there have been attacked, as you know." She waited for the tell-tale bob of the bird's weight to indicate he had nodded before continuing. "Someone suggested sending birds to spy on the northern desert."Aiolos dug his talons into her mane tuft but stayed where he was, it was always fun to torment the lioness a little before he settled on her back. "Oh? Well, that sounds like a fun afternoon's jaunt." He replied cockily.

"Its a long trip to the northlands," Elcca spoke up. The relatively small lioness had taken the high ground again, resting ontop one of the fallen boulders. Something of a habit of hers, and one might begin to make the assumption that Elcca was a lioness who did not like looking up to anyone. Or perhaps she just saw herself as lofty. Either way, she certainly felt entitled to the spot. "Even for those with wings. It won't be a simple task for spies, no matter the species. Unless we happen to employ some trained snails, it would be foolish to think another large, capable force is not prepared for such risks."
The mystic leaned forward. "After all, there is the language to consider. And it isn't uncommon for prides to have their own feathered friends monitoring their borders," she couldn't say if the nergui had. But it certainly wasn't unheard of. "Any spies sent must be thought out fully. The nergui are a superstitious lot. These are lions that kill their own just because one of their seers gets a a bad dream."
As lofty as she might have thought of herself, and her gifts, it was clear that the notion of abuse was distasteful to her. She might have been one of the worst offenders of taking her visions seriously, but never had her dreams told her to kill. "and from what our Hongshan friends say, they are not completely predictable. If we send spies, it will be a longterm engagement."
Elcca continued to muse, but before she could elaborate further No broke their chain of thought. "We will consider our options with the spymaster. Needless to say, there is no sanity in openly discussing our plans for espionage. Should we consider anything, it will be within private meetings. And with full consult of our Hongshan liaisons."
[[OOC: <33 If people want to do operation bird, we can definitely fit something in. Possibly not immediately though, as we're still working out 'where' Northland rps will be held! But if there's interest we will figure it out.]]

At the back of the gathering a large, unusually marked lion silently padded up and settled by a large rock, his striking black, red and white coat hardly allowing him to blend in even if his large size hadn't already made it impossible. Ṭhaṇḍa`Lau was a newcomer to the pride, having joined just before the latest events, he had barely won his dual and managed to find his own den when everything seemed to explode in the pride.
Parking himself quietly, blood red eyes swept the area, noting the two lions he recognized as the regents atop a rock and apparently addressing the gathered pride members. Having only the beginings of an understanding about the pride, he knew they were a warlike race and that the recent trouble with water had stretched the pride to breaking point. This last epissode, where it seemed several kin had been attacked, appeared to be the last straw and now action was being discussed.
As different lions spoke out with their thoughts and feelings, the large male sat silently, watching and listening all that was going on. He would not speak, even if he had been a member for far longer, that was not his way. But he was aware and carefully filed every comment and emotion-filled voice away for later examination, his expression cold, remote, merciless. ((I'd love to do 'Operation bird! XD ))

The caracal licked his lips hungrily at the mention of birds. Granted, he wasn't fool enough to hunt the kind of birds they were discussing. Those were perfectly equipped to give him a fight for his life. But the smaller sort... those were the most exciting to hunt. His claws flexed and his hind legs shifted as he imagined leaping for the fleeing feathery meals. It always got his blood pumping pleasantly to make a mid-air catch. He licked his lips again and turned his attention back to the lions.
The conversation seemed to be stalling. There was much murmuring, but less heated responses. It almost was all the same to him, as their inner affairs were none of his business. However, his fate was indeed tied to theirs, so he settled himself down to continue to listen idly. If they split their numbers to another location, he supposed he could follow, but he might just encounter another protecting his territory. He doubted the lions would bother to help him stake a new claim. They generally left him alone, and he did not really expect them to change that now, even if he did follow them. No, here was probably the best place to stay. Plus, this was still where the bulk of them would be. Yes, here was where he wanted to be.

Maybe it was the life times habit of looking out for a certain type of predator.. or maybe the caracal's desire for feathered flesh was just that strong. Either way, the falcon paused in his tormenting of the large red feline and twisted round, his head almost aligned with his spine as he squinted against the glare of the pale sand.
With his sharp falcon eyes he caught sight of the slight movements atop a sandy rock and picked out the body of the small cat laying there. His crest feathers rose along his skull as his wings mantled, fluffing out in a display of strength yet he wasn't overly concerned. The smaller feline wasn't usually a threat, and he sat on the back of one huge-a** lioness... he couldn;t really get much safer unless he too to the wing.
Huffing at the smaller cat he turned back to the proceedings, scuttling sideways along Kuza's spine and making her flinch under him until he heard the familiar muttered curse of 'damn bird' among her grouching complaints. His dark eyes amused as he finally settled down on Kuza's back.

Ari ducked her head in an instinctive effort to appear smaller and go unnoticed. Why were the lions suddenly talking about birds? It made her nervous and the description of the pride’s enemies wasn’t making her feel any better. There was no way she was going to take any risks for these overgrown cats, of that she was certain. War would come even without her help and Ari wasn’t planning on playing her part until the first body had hit the sandy ground.
The large bird eyed the dark-eyed falcon that had daringly perched himself on the shoulder of one of the lionesses with mild surprise, yellow eyes widening when he started making an aggressive display. She had to follow the other bird’s gaze in order to find that the source of his discomfort was a smaller desert feline. Pff! That was no threat, not unless one was wounded and distracted. She didn’t understand why he had even bothered to acknowledge the cat’s presence much less react to it. She didn’t understand why he was perched on one of the lionesses’ either but that was something she didn’t even want to think about.

It made him edgy to suddenly realize the two large birds of prey present were eyeing him. Granted, his presence this close in was unusual, but they must have seen him before, at some point. He made a point to never approach large hunting bird nests, never ever. There was other prey he could still snag, and angering creatures big enough to best him in a fight wasn't at all wise. So he couldn't figure why the one mantled hostilely at him, but he still shifted uneasily. Maybe it was time to move his position.
He got to his paws and began to circle the gathering, taking care to stay along the outskirts of the group of lions, moving away from the section with the feisty falcon. Instead, he slipped behind a newly arrived male, leaping up lightly and quietly onto the large rock the lion sat by. So long as none of the larger felines minded, he could get away with being this close. Well, them and those big birds. If they got too interested in him, he just might have to either leave or find a sheltered spot to continue listening from.

He listened as the firekin discussed what they wanted to do, and was slightly amused at the idea of spy-birds. He could see that at least one lion seemed to have a friendly bird about, and with a glance around he also noticed there was another eagle nearby. And a caracal, for whatever reason.
"It's like the whole desert is interested." Yayuka mused quietly, curling his tail and idly watching the caracal pick a different spot to rest. He didn't particularly mind, though, and continued to lick his paw. In some ways, it was neat.
Though she could imagine they weren't exactly the most popular bunch for the time being, Tswana was here for the meeting, as well. It was certainly an important matter to them. Sjari was also present, but he was sitting on the other end of the group. She found it weird how now that they were here he seemed to avoid the other Hongshan more. He sat there and looked very serious and slightly haunted, as he usually did. She wondered how well he understood these lions, he spoke so little himself, she had no grasp of his experience with this language.
It was frustrating that she couldn't speak their tongue too well, but she fully intended to, and could follow what was going on well enough. She sighed, standing up and going to sit by Thabiti, trying to make sure she remained inconspicuous. Tswana's fur didn't even match the firekin so well. They were whites, blacks and fiery reds, like most of her Hongshan brothers and sisters. Tswana had a muter, more pinkish color, and though it had never been a problem back home, it felt strange here.
He felt he didn't have much more to contribute now, so Moto'spaki would remain quiet for the time being, nodding to acknowledge Elcca's words. He did, however, ponder what could be done, and how he could help. While he waited and listened, the white male quietly looked about, simply taking note of who was present. He could see some in groups, whispering among themselves, others on their own...
And he saw the Hongshan, as well. Those he would try to watch more closely, so long as they didn't notice him watching. There was a lot to be learned on how others reacted to the world around them.

Out of the corner of his eye he saw the small sandy coloured cat slide away and couldn't help but smirk to himself. Even though he hadn't intentially tried to make the felaine nervous, he couldn't help but be amused that it had moved just because of him. But then Kuza shifted under him and he dug in with his claws in protest, making the lioness hiss at him in mock-anger.
The lioness had mostly ignored her bird-sized tormentor, since the falcon's weight wasn't a bother and his claws didn't really do much damage other than make her muscles twitch, she left him to his own nefarious devices. What did catch her attention however was the arrival of the Hongshan and it was her shifting to glance round at a particularly black male that made the bird on her back dig his claws in so hard.
"Damnit Aiolos.. I do have nerves under my fur you know." Grunting with mock irritation she watched the dark male for a moment, curious.
The large, dark male barely reacted when the small sand coloured caracal turned up next to him and clambered up the rock he had settled beside. Ṭhaṇḍa'Lau barely flicked an ear as his new companion settled down, the lion's own gaze wondering over the pride gathered before him to the other late arrivals, the ones he guessed were the Hongshan. He almost felt more like them than the firekin, not only for his coat, which thought it was the firekin colours, he had yet to see anyone with the same kind of patterning as him, and patterns in such a colour-limited pride was a big marker. Letting his gaze drift back to the regents, he waited for the next pebble to drop into the lake that was the muted whisperings and mutters of the pride.

His sister-in-arms' movements did not go unnoticed. She stuck out a bit more than the rest of the felines here who shared similar three-toned pelts. He smirked at the thought that he fit in decently well considering his dark black coat and crimson mask. Still, he was a stranger to these lions. Turning to Tswana, he gave a confirming nod to her approach and her presence. It was nice to have familiar company when in strange places, it makes them ... less strange. "Any word from the others?" The dark lion asked, his native tongue. "I don't suppose Sjari has spoken since we got here... I worry for him, but he will need to grow strong here." He hated this feeling he had. Deep down he denies it, he represses, and binds it to the deepest, darkest pit of his being. This feeling of paranoia of one of his own. He dare not speak of it or bring it to Nawvlee. They were finally safe, would he dare risk his pride or possibly risk this land over a paranoid thought? No, no, of course not. Still he does not tear his gaze from Sjari.

Xiāofáng had been a little surprised at the pair of birds that appeared out of no where. One of which immediately settling on a lioness she knew, and the other didn't seem particularly worried about the large gathering of lions. She watched Kuza and the falcon bicker for a moment, but it was obvious they were some kind of friends since neither of them actually did anything about their apparent argument. Then both birds turned to stare at something, making Xiāofáng turn to look herself. puzzlement melted into surprise to see a caracal cat sat on a rock, though she certainly didn't blame it for the swift exit it took when the birds focused on it. She would probably have done the same had she been in the small creature's paws.
She was just turning back when she spotted the self same cat climb up onto a rock close by a huge male she had never seen before. The look on his face made her shiver and turn away. He was certainly not a male she wanted to mess with in the near future, or ever... he seemed one of the colder lions at the gathering judging form his dark scowl and totally silent demeanor.
Finally dragging her gaze off the male she caught sight of a small group of lions sat off to one side all together. Where they the much talked about Hongshan? She supposed they had to be, judging from their slightly different pelts and the way they kept separate from the main bulk of the lions present. Curious she snuck glances at them every so often though made sure to keep her attention on the regents up front as well.

As No began to reiterate the plans they had worked over, destroyed, and reformed, Seide kept her mouth shut and her ears trained on the Regent. There were shouts for volunteers, though no one answered them.
When there was a lull in the conversation, and only a few others had ideas to present, Moto'Seide rose to her feet. "Listen, for a moment, if you would!" Moments passed, and the voices grew momentarily still.
"It is never so simple as volunteering," she explained, moving her eyes over the crowd and momentarily pausing on some. "Parents whose children are have not yet reached adolescence are extremely discouraged from offering their service. Your responsibilities lie here, within the pride, securing our future.
"Beyond that, we wish able bodied lions. You may be of any professional following. Medics, storytellers, hunters, Hongshan. Ideally, each group will travel independently and will have a variety of skill sets." The strong lioness paused and swallowed the sharpness that was beginning in her throat. "Do not join unless you are prepared for the unexpected. You will never knowingly be put into danger, but venturing outside the lands is unpredictable. Be prepared. Your own death may come, and worse still, the death of a comrade. Becoming a Sentinel should not be taken lightly.
"All volunteers will be required to go through a training session. This will detail responsibilities of being a sentinel as well as be a refresher on combat and techniques." After a heavy inward breath, the newly appointed Legate finished with, "I will answer some questions now, but those interested should come speak to me after this gathering."

Tswana shook her head, shooting a glance at the dark lion. If Sjari knew both she and Thabiti ere looking at him, he gave no indication, focusing on the regents at their perch. "No, just when we were questioned." But Thabiti had been there for that. She still found what the black male said rather peculiar, but she just assumed he was out of it.
Perhaps Sjari was just somehow more traumatized than the rest of them. The Hongshan had seemed particularly harsh with him. "He will come to, eventually." She said hopefully, because she remembered how he had been before all the trouble. He had been an entirely different lion back then. His silence didn’t make her very comfortable, either. Perhaps she saw it as a sign of weakness, or, like Thabiti, she had begun to suspect the black lion. Either way, she just really hoped he would speak up again soon, it was starting to get ridiculous.

Ute and Zii were getting nervous and antsy with everyone around them making statements of war and revenge. They sat side by side and just shook their heads; knowing there was no point to speaking up. What was done was done and it was obvious if they didn't do something about it... they'd suffer... greatly. Ute lifted her head and said to her mother and not in a whisper. "I will go. In place of my mother. She said, standing up but keeping her shoulders on her mothers. "I have no cubs. I have no mate... Anything to ensure safety of everyone."
Zii didn't like her daughter offering up her life like that. She opened her mouth to talk but shut it, turning her gaze to Seide. She simply shut her mouth and kept her gaze to the ground; knowing that her daughter was strong and fast... she would be capable.
"I cannot tell you no. You will go. I have my place here She quietly to her daughter. But so help me, if you die out there.. I will find you in the afterlife... and give you hell" She added, her yellow eyes shut and trying to not hear everyone else.

Nuria hated feeling uncertain. She kneaded her claws into the sand as though she could drive the unwelcome sensation away by driving her claws into something, but it was of little use. To go, or to stay? Traveling abroad to show others the strength of the Firekin first-hand was appealing...but she disliked the idea of being apart from the desert that served as their firey crucible.
...But hadn't she just been wishing to bring back the respect the Firekin name once claimed in the outside world? Could she truly be content to sit back while others did that work? "I am interested," she called out. "Will we be ranging far, or remain in lands that are near the borders?"
