I resisted as much as I could. I was just winging it. XD; He's so pretty though! It was inevitable. *Laughs*
[Sign me up: Returning Male!]
Name: Kidendi Meaning: Kidendi Benin ~ Afrikan language Rank: Colossus ~ He isn't red but he is all but enormous in size, thus rendering him useless when it comes to hunting in a pack, as he simply gets in the way left and right. Personality: Slightly reserved around strangers, as is needed with his rank, Kidendi is different around his friends. He can be both spontaneous and carefree while at the same time watching the surroundings all about him. The stars talk to him sometimes in his sleep, or so he says, and guides the way that he does things in his life. This causes some confusion with others that don't know him well, those close to him find it amusing and often ask him what the stars asked of him in his dreams.
Prompt #: 1 Prompt Response: The only thing the night around him saw was the glowing image of a pair of crescent moons dancing through the darkness, stars clustered around them. It almost looked like a grouping of fireflies traipsing through the darkness of the Savannah at night. To those that searched through the night, they could find what they were looking for with simpler means than standing out. With every step that the creature took in it's travels, it appeared as though a white spark sprang from the ground, glowing in the slight moonlight.
If one were to walk up upon the creature that wandered through the night blackness of the stary night they would meet glowing white teeth and a gruff attitude that would instantly put them in their place. The night could be a wicked place and the one walking through it had been raised to defend those that he loved while being nearly invisible to the world around him. His old rank called for blood colored dogs that shone in the night and epitomized the moon's anger, striking justice upon those that chose to walk un-welcomed into the pack lands and defending those that lived inside the borders with their lives. Though it had been a long time, he still walked with the rolling step of one that had used his shoulders to sling leopards and hyenas to the ground and his teeth to guard his loved ones.
That was all in the past though, months, possibly years, had passed since the time his paws had walked through his packlands. The stars had given him a vision, a quest to finish after he had finished his pilgrimage. It was something that he had to do, now that it was done, now that the stars were appeased once more by the balance that his presence had brought to the creatures that needed it... he was lost. The world didn't call for dogs his size that had no purpose, they simply had a hard time surviving. It was hard to hunt, it was hard to track. The night was his favorite time of night ever since his puphood, that made it a little easier to track in the darkness with his black coat. Sometimes his white toes and tail gave him away though.
Wings beat in the darkness, causing his ears to flick in that direction, catching the soft wingbeats of a night bird. Twisting his head Kidendi glanced with his amber colored eyes through the silken darkness around him and found the form of the nightjar as the stars and slivered moon illuminated it's wings. The white spots in the center of it's wingspan made it stand out to the wild dog below it as it danced through the thermals and rifts that the gentle Savannah breeze created.
"Brother of the night, star flier, what brings you to me at such an hour?" Kidendi called out, his tail curving up above his back so that the white tip waved in the wind, calling the bird towards him. Though he was easily seen with the bird's adapted eyes.
Flitting and landing on one of the hobbled old trees that long ago bent to the wind, the nightjar flicked it's wings in a welcome and settled itself before it began what it was to say. All of the nightjars that Kidendi had seen were long winded, but to night travelers they came in handy, passing tales and messages to those who needed them the most.
"I come bearing a message, night wanderer. The Nyota-Wasomaji have suffered a loss, the earth attempted to reclaim their numbers and succeeded with many. Tell all that you see about the disaster, the pack still lives, though slightly fragmented between two strong willed pack members who love it so. Call for help as you will, pass my message to the ears of those that will listen to you, large one." the nightjar spoke in the ways of the birds Kidendi himself had once used to pass messages on. Spoke in the formal way that the pack used to introduce themselves to one another. This was a pack bird... or at least trained by a member.
The Nyota-Wasomaji had suffered an earthquake? Did the old ones still live? Thoughts raced through his head, momentarily making the young wild dog forget his manners and his teachings. What of Alnilam? His best friend, did she still live or had something happened to extinguish her light as well? And Alnitak, the gruff Colossus that he had known as he trained himself to be one, was she alive? The pack leaders would be in an uproar. His friends, his family, the pack that he loved so much. Was it all destroyed?
Yildun.
He found it odd that her name popped into his head as he began to worry so. Though all of the names of the dogs and pack he had loved were rushing through his head, faces and tails, stories and pasts that could all very well be over as the earth took back what it had once created.
Shaking his head, Kidendi passed his amber eyes over the smaller form of the nightjar once more, "Thank you brother of the night, I will make sure to pass the information along on my travels. All who meet this muzzle will know of the plight of the pack." With that he bowed his head to the bird, a signal that he was through with it.
Extending it's wings and giving the large wild dog a bow in return, the nightjar took to the sky, flying in the opposite direction that Kidendi would now be headed. Home had been only his white feet for so long, a rock in the rain, a shaded tree during the exhausting heat of the day. So long had he been without those that he called family and pack. Alnilam, Alnitak, Yildun... were any of the pack members he once knew alive? Alnilam's father, if still alive, would have his paws full and would need all the help that he could get. Kidendi had respected and loved his previous council of leaders, trusting them with his life and protecting them with his own in return.
The time to move was now, the time for traveling was long since passed. There were things in the world that required attention but not the attention that he finally understood his family needed. If any of the friends he'd once known were alive, they would need all the help that they could get and Kidendi was settled all for helping.
Turning his body, the enormous wild dog began to trot in the direction of his old pack, the stars flashing and guiding his way through the night. The moons on his shoulder and cheek could have begun to glow brighter as he moved, the amber of his deep eyes lighting his way. No animal would bother him further until he was there, no food, no water, barely sleep. He would find his old pack, he would reclaim his birthright and his constellation.
"I'll be there Alnilam, please still be alive old friend. I'll help you." Kidendi whispered to the moon, breaking into a full run that made the white on his paws seem to set the grass aflame with white bursts.
Future plots: He's been gone for a while, if his constellation is still his own or not, Kidendi would need to go on his pilgrimage again, just to solidify in his head that he truly is a member once more. This could cause confusion and amusement. Yildun has always held a soft spot in the big dog's heart, making it flutter from time to time. Meeting her and checking that she's alive would be the first start, Kidendi could strike up a camaraderie with her as he sought out where he sat with his old pack now that it's changed so much. Give him someone to rely upon outside of Alnilam. How many Wild Dogs do you own?: 4 8D;;;; All of the same HUGE family.
