((I'm probably the one that should be ashamed, I write things that would make a porn star blush constantly. *whistles not-so-innocently*))
Imminent picked his pack up one-handed and slung it on his back with the ease of it being an action as natural as breathing. He listened silently as she told her story, fingers moving to make sure the straps were correctly adjusted.
"Your brother is a vile fool, little one." He pulled her close and leaned down, kissing her forehead gently before straightening, the pack seeming weightless on his massive frame. "From what I have seen since yesterday, there is nothing to be fixed. If anything, learn from what you have, who knows what they may be able to teach you in the long run, yes?" He couldn't resist, he ruffled her hair lightly as they started walking.
Though he could have made it within a few hours, Imminent took his time, knowing that Marina wouldn't be able to keep up otherwise. After a while, he pointed to a thin column of black smoke in the distance. "There's our destination. Judging from the smoke, the fires have only recently gone out, there might be one or two still burning."

((Hah, no such thing as innocence, and it's over-rated anyways. wink And that's fine, I'm waiting for Diablo III to go live in one hour fifty minutes. <.<;; ))
Imminent smiled as he surveyed the devastated city. Perhaps city was too generous, but it was certainly larger than a town. At least, it had been. Well over half the buildings were either burned out shells, or still burning to some degree. There were no bodies in the street, the felicorn had dragged the bodies of those who'd stood against him into one of the burning buildings, his idea of respect for the brave (and stupid).
"Smell that, little one? The sweet, copper tang of blood, the stink of burning wood and heated stone, and the not entirely unpleasant stench of burned meat." Taking her hand into his, he started towards the remains of the town. "While I wish I could claim credit for facing them in battle in the middle of the street, I would be lying to do so. Many of them perished during the night, victim to a blade dancing across their throat."
He stopped by one building which looked like it might have been a house. A swift kick sent the door smashing inwards. "We'll start here. Look for clothing, food, and small, high-value items." Imminent walked across the smashed door and headed for the kitchen.

((Glad I'm not the only one who's mind has been in the gutter with the gruesome twosome. <.< The stories I could write with these two alone would probably make angels lose their wings and become sex-crazed hippies. Maybe we should take it to PM at some point. wink ))
Imminent was busy taking the kitchen apart with the methodical precision of one familiar with hiding things in such a room. "Hmm, nothing under the table or chairs..." He dropped the table back on it's legs, then began kicking in the cabinet doors. Sure, he could have just tore them off the hinges... but this was more enjoyable. Sure enough, he spotted the small tin box hidden in the corner. Pulling it out, he grinned as he opened it. "Well well, I think we're in the home of a thief." He pulled out a small emerald from the pile of gems within. "Small, but they'll buy supplies for a while."
He glanced over as Marina walked in with a box. "Have you now, Little One?" He chuckled as he set the box on the table besides hers. "Mmm... throwing knives." He picked one up and flipped it through the air. "Balance is pretty good too."
The felicorn's nose flared as he watched her slide the blade across her palm. Without thinking, he reached out and gripped her wrist, pulling her hand to his lips and slowly licking the blood away.

((Not sure how many I'll get in tonight, fair warning. Probably a few more before I crash. Staying up waiting for Diablo III to go live wasn't one of my smarter moves, especially considering it was down most the freakin' day. >.<))
The distant crash of a building succumbing to burned support beams snapped Imminent back to his senses, and he turned back to their finds so Marina wouldn't see the scowl creep over his face. What the hell was he doing? They were in the middle of a ruined town, getting what they could before other scavengers arrived, and he was letting himself be distracted? Reluctantly, he shut the tin box full of gems.
"There's... plenty of dried foods in that pantry. We should take what we can, raid any other buildings, and head back for the camp site." As he dropped his pack onto the table, he grinned to himself. Of course, once they were back in the safety of the camp, perhaps he could let his attention... wander more freely in her direction.

Imminent laughed gleefully. "Excellent! I assure you, this will be entertaining." The felicorn walked over to the fireplace and pulled out handfuls of dead coals and began to smear the meanki's fur black. "I have in my pack, a few little tricks a fellow brother in arms taught me. He's mated to an 'artist'," he snorted at the thought, "anyways, his mate is a painter, and she decided to experiment with the use of paints in war."
He stepped and looked over his handiwork, then nodded. "Yes, that will work." Imminent disappeared back into the kitchen and returned with a handful of small spheres about the size of his thumb. He dumped them in Marina's hand even as he showed another handful. "Hit the windows with these, they're filled with black paint, and a little magic to make them explode on impact. Let's darken this place."
A quick flick of the wrist had the living room window darkened, thick black paint slowly dripping down the glass and walls.

((But of course.))
Marina burst into the other rooms, showering the windows with the small orbs. Her entire body blended effortlessly with the darkness of the home. The sound of foot steps could be heard as a group of bandits were heard on the other side of the window within the window. The windows in both the main living quarters and the main bedroom shattered into tiny pieces as the bandits swarmed into the room. Marina's thin body pressed into a corned, unseen in the shadows.
As one of the bandits passed, one of the throwing knives buried deeply into the back of their skull. She leapt foward to retrieve the knife from the body. The second bandit grabbed the back of her tunic and threw her backwards the floors. His sword plunging downwards towards her. Marina rolled to the side, letting the sword bury into the wooden planks beneath her. Her clawed hand shot out, tearing the bandit downwards to the floor. She rolled over on top of the bandit, her sharp finger slicing quickly at his neck.
Then, much like the deer, she made quick work of him, letting his blood pour onto the floor. She threw her head back as she lifted the heavy male to it's feet and she pushed him towards the broken window and let him hang halfway out as a warning flag for other bandits.

"Spread out!" the bandit leader barked as they stormed the living room, bows and blades at ready. "You two, check the bedroom. Chago, with me." The leader drew his sword and edged his way to the kitchen, noting the odd black splotches that coated the walls and floors. "What manner of trickery is this?"
Chago leaned in and sniffed. "Smells like paint, boss. Thought this was the traitor's place?"
"It is," the leader growled as they entered the kitchen. Chago wandered over to the pantry, noting the door hanging on one hinge. "Where in the hells did they go," he called out as he stepped inside. "The pantry's untouched, from what I can te- glch!" Chago dropped his sword as the arm dropped down from the ceiling and grabbed him by the throat. "Come to play, bandit?" was the last thing he remembered before his neck was snapped.
The leader spun around in time to see the massive felicorn drop from the panty ceiling and step out. He could feel the blood drain from his face. A felicorn?! By the gods, what did they stumble onto? That would certainly explain the massive destruction of the town.
With a scream of desperation, the leader launched himself at the felicorn, sword slashing in an arc. Imminent laughed as he stepped aside and let the bandit slam into the wall. "Pathetic, you're not worth my time." Imminent reached down, and with a quick twist of the wrist, ripped the bandit's throat out. He closed his eyes as his pulse quickened from the shower of hot blood that sprayed his front. Throwing his head back, he let loose a bellowing roar of defiance and challenge.

Imminent turned and grinned down at the meanki, a gruesome visage of black fur and blood from head to foot. He took a step forward, having already forgotten about the two brigands lying in the kitchen. "Aye, I could have easily handled both of them, but mother taught me-... what was it? Ah, yes, 'sharing is caring'." He laughed loudly at his own joke. "I doubt this is what she had in mind though."
Wrapping his arm around her shoulders, since she was too short to wrap around her waist, he nodded in approval when he saw the mutilated body hanging out the window. "Nicely done, Little One, nicely done." He grinned as he placed his hand over hers and opened the door. "If there were any left, they have no doubt fled like the cowards they are. Come, let's finish our treasure hunt and get back to the woods." Leaning down, he brushed his cheek against hers before pointing down the street.
Amazingly enough, the general supply store was still standing, though it showed signs of severe burns in several places. It creaked dangerously as they stepped into it. Imminent looked around and smiled. "Impressive. It's not nearly as looted as I thought. Let's see what we can find here before we leave."
