"Don't worry," Paean said, "You can just leave the gourd here and we'll gather them after the dance."
He took a moment to watch the dancing before moving on with his job again. The green dog that danced on his front paws made him smile. He's like to see a lion try that without falling on their face... There were some adantages for the smaller dancers. The many thirsty dancers had nearly depleted Ester's water supply so he had to run back and forth with gourds for a while to make sure she wouldn't run out. When he was satisfied with the water situation, a drop of water hit him square in the nose...
He watched for Nazli from time to time, and was pleased to notice that she seemed to do much better after her short break. He grinned and waved when she looked his way. His mane was soaking up the rain, but it was nice to cool down a bit after all his hard work.
The green dog he'd noticed before seemed to have run into some trouble, and Paean moved to give Ester some room to take a look at his paw.
"I'm sure she'll be able to fix it," he said cheerfully, "For all the times I've goofed and hurt myself she's always managed to make it all better."

Ester set aside the water gourd she'd had ready for the next creature who wanted it. Ah, just as important as hydration was medication! She gently took one of the wild dog's paws in hers and turned it upward. The moonlight was becoming fleeting, with clouds mostly masking its light now. The rain didn't seem to bother the medic much at all, though she paused to swipe her forelock out of her eyes.
"Ah y-y-yes," she mused, "y-you have j-just a few scrapes and m-m-maybe a b-bruised p-pad." She held his paw upturned in one of her own, and dug in a nearby sack with the other. She pulled out first a stoppered gourd, then a shallow bowl with a melted beeswax seal holding on a simple lid. "This may s-sting a little, if any of y-y-your scrapes are d-deep," she warned him, then tugged the stopper out with her teeth. A strong smelling liquid was poured over his paw, and the medicinal gourd set aside.
Swift and sure, she slit the seal on the bowl, then scooped a glop of salve out with one toe. Carefully she slathered it across his paw, then took the time to rub it in. She examined each of his other paws in turn, and applied both medicines as needed. When she was done, she closed up both containers. "All d-done!" She waved at him encouragingly. "Y-you can g-go d-dance again!"

Vappu's fur was getting wetter and wetter, but she didn't miss the awesome moves Hila managed to pull off. She tilted her head to one side. How had he done that? Perhaps Ester had added some sort of magic herbs to the water... But then everyone would dance like that, wouldn't they? If she hadn't already swooned over the mysterious cheetah before, this would have done her in.
"Great dancing," she called as she bounced excitedly at the sidelines. She really, really hoped that a cheetah would win this year. Sie couldn't remember if anyone had done that before. And her attempt hadn't been very smooth... Heimdall was genuinely enjoying himself in the rain. It was no secret that he didn't cope well with the heat part of summer, and getting drenched was a nice change of pace. He splashed through puddles as he moved around the dancing crowd to try to see how everyone was doing. He'd get help judging, but his voice would carry most weight so he needed to watch as much of the dance as he could.
"Whoever did the rain dance is getting bonus points," he called to the dancers.

Kifu boogied aside, just a little bit. He heard the falter in the wolf song, and did not mean to interrupt to. He let the singer have their space - especially since they hadn't responded. In all reality, he may of been talking to an echo!
The blind dog should of been paying more attention; he could normally smell the shift in air before a rainfall. Apparently the intense dancing was throwing off his nose, or maybe it was the dust cloud from earlier. Either way, when the water started to plop down on him, it took Kifu by surprise. However, he adapted quickly. Dancing in the mud changed his style, instead of steady back and forth; he switched to more of a slip and slide style, using the increasingly wet earth to his advantage. He shimmied to the left a little, letting his paws drag as he did so, just to get a feel for how slick the earth was. Hoping there was enough room, and pushed himself forward while dropping one of his front paws. It mostly just covered him in mud, but hopefully the slide-dive would impress the dance masters.

Whew... Tadelesh injured his paw, but Esteryti patched him up in time. No penalty!
Well, at least the dancers didn't have a dust problem anymore... In fact, the dance area was getting rather muddy. The rain kept falling, and far away thunder added to the music they danced to. Now and then the sky was lit by lightning, but it took several heartbeats for the thunder to follow. Still, anyone not too fond of lightning storms might get a bad feeling. But the Dance Master made no move to stop the dancing. And hey... It's just water! And mud... Quite a lot of mud.
Some of the Kaskazi members in charge of making the dance run smoothly have made sure that any cubs sleeping or watching from the sidelines are as comfortable and dry as possible. It's less muddy outside the dancing area, but the area where Ester is handing out water and tending to the dance-injured is getting rather muddy from all the traffic.
exclaim Doing the mudslide... Roll 1-100. The number to beat is 30! Optional: If your character is afraid of thunder IC you get a -5 modifier for being a bit distracted by the weather. (ie. after you roll you subtract 5 from your roll) We're not going to check if you've ever played your character as afraid of thunder - it's just a bit of additional fun if you want!
0-15: Dance related injury of your choice (Esteryti can probably fix it!) 16-30: You slip-slide-away and land on your bottom. Humiliating? Yes. Very 31-90: One can adapt to anything! Still dancing! 91-100: Making awesome moves despite the muck!

Hila laughed softly as the dance master called out to the dancers. "Terribly sorry, my good sir," he said back, grinning at the lion from under his hood. "That might have been my doing." What with his slick moves and his previous indulgence in water, most of the signs pointed to him. He didn't mind, though, even though the ground was starting to get muddy. It felt funny between his toes, squishing and squelching in time with his dancing. His cowl was starting to grow heavy, but he didn't pay it much mind. His head was still dry despite the water falling from the sky, and he could let it dry once the dance was over.
He was impressed with his own stamina and turned in a smooth circle, using the slippery ground to and more fluidity to his dance moves. The pretty cheetah called out to him and he grinned, tossing a flirtatious grin her way. Perhaps he could spend a few weeks here after this dance to get to know her a little better. His mind was no longer on his feet and rather on the pretty female, though, and he misstepped rather horribly. With a surprised yelp his legs slid out from under him and he landed hard on his chest, the wind knocked out of him for just a moment. He gasped for air and rolled to his feet, shaking his cowl down from his head to breathe.
His chest aching, he hobbled back over to the lioness that had given him water before. "Ah...lovely to...see you again...my dear," he panted, giving her a weak grin. "Might I...bother you...for another sip of water?"
(Oooooh crash and burn, Hila XD Lowest roll possible!)

He scoffed at the sound of lightning, no much of a baby to its large sounds. With a nod of gratitude from the medic, he jumped back in and began dancing once more, his paws feeling great! He let out a low and long howl, not minding if another wild dog did it as well; and kept on dancing. No mud, or rain, or even stormy sounds, could stop him from dancing the rest of the night away. He had been adapted to these weathers for years now, and he was not going to give up just when the going gets rough with everyone here because of the weather going downhill.

Ester had seen the blue cheetah's slip and fall, and had sucked a rain-damp breath at the impact. She winced as the other limped near, ignoring the rumble and crack of thunder. The strobe effect of the lightning was slightly more problematic, but she'd managed. "Oh, y-you p-poor dear!" she said between thunderclaps. "C-come sit here," she instructed him, ignoring the request for water. Though she'd give it to him in a moment, water wasn't what he needed. She could see him gasping to get his breath back, and was certain that doing so was rather painful just now.
She dug into her sack and pulled out another stoppered gourd. "When I open this, inhale d-d-deeply," she instructed him firmly before sinking her teeth into the stopper and wiggling it loose. She held her breath as she did so, then promptly shoved it under the muzzle of the slender Hila. It was strong smelling, but not unpleasantly so. It was an extract she'd tracked down used by a distant pride. It helped to open the lungs and ease breathing, and hopefully would help his inhalations to be less labored. After he took a few deep breaths more easily, she shoved the stopper back in. "B-better? G-good. Have a drink and y-you are g-g-good to g-g-go!"
With a grumble about the mud, she put the gourd and the other things she'd been using back in the sack, then carried the sack to a jutting rock, setting it above the mud level. Mud was never good for injuries, both creating or treating. She cast an accusing glare at the rolling clouds above them, blackening the sky that was once strewn with stars and moonlight.SilverLutz For rolling as low as you can go! Have an OOCarrot!

Since Vappu hadn't been able to take her eyes off Hila she also saw his nasty fall. He did get up soon enough, but it was obvious that he was hurt. Oh no! She slipped through the mud at the edge of the dancefloor, appologising as she bumped into those watching the dance. He had to be okay, right? She arrived just as Ester uncorked the gourd and got a whiff of the strong smelling substance before she got the idea that perhaps she shouldn's stand downwind right now. She coughed once and looked a bit sheepish.
"Are you all right," she asked, "You're doing so good, you're not giving up now are you?"
After all, the medic had said he was good to go again. But she couldn't help worrying a little...

Hila grimaced just a bit as he was denied water at first. Whatever Ester had, he hoped it would work. It felt like he needed to guzzle a whole lake full of water to get that sensation out of his chest. He did as she asked, though, and breathed in the foul smelling brew, coughing just a bit in the process. It did open up his lungs quite a bit, though, and soon that tightness and lightheadedness left him. Taking a breath of clean air, he bowed his head to lap up another gourdful of water, content that his slip hadn't done any more than make him unable to breathe for those few minutes. A familiar voice caught his attention, and he turned to spot the pretty cheetah with a very concerned look on her face. He gave a little chuckle as he moved away from the water, pausing to glance at Ester. "Thank you once again. You're a fine medic," he said, giving her a wink, before turning his attention to the purple cheetah. "I'm quite all right, my dear. Just lost my wind for a bit. That won't slow me down, though," he said, grinning at her as he dipped his head to bring his hood back over his features. "What is your name, my dear?" he asked as he paused by her side, just inches away from her. Talencia Hurrah! XD Do I just copy it to my journal or link back here?

It was a big relief that the treatment worked so well. She could still hope for a cheetah winning the title of Dance Master, even if the most important thing was that he was all right. He was very muddy, but that didn't stop him from trying to make her melt with those eyes... She was probably really muddy by now too... Yup... Her legs looked more black than lavender colored.
"My name is Vappu," she said, feeling hot despite her wet fur, "You're Hila, right? I'm glad you're not badly hurt."
It was a bit embarrassing, but she'd only stopped watching him long enough to pester one of the Kaskazi members for his name. She wouldn't have minded a longer chat, but the dance was still going and she'd hate for Hila to get points docked for talking to her too long. SilverLutz You can showcase it in your journal if you want, and there's a master list in the Sikukuu subforum.

Kifu was covered in mud from his little slip dive. Maybe that had not been his best plan; the rain was still coming down in big fat drops, serving to wash off at least the most outer layer of grime. He did his best to try and stand back up 'elegantly,' but a dirty dog was not the most naturally graceful creature in the savannah. His only consolation was that he didn’t get any more mud on him. They rain was not letting up, not even a little bit. While the slightly slick layer of soil allowed for artful slides, this was getting beyond what even his paws could handle. Apparently he wasn’t the only one affected. The nice cheetah who spoke with him at the start of the dance had fallen prey to the murky mess; at least he didn't seem shaking up by it. Kifu gave up on the tricky slips and went back to a more basic shimmy, trying to dig his paws deep with each move.

Nia looked up into the sky and frowned as drops of water began to fall heavily onto her face. 'Great She thought to herself, intent to not give up on her dancing. She'd come this far, now she not only wanted to prove to herself, but to the other's around her that she was capable of dancing all night.
But the more she danced, the more the mud began to cake to her paws. The more slippery the dance floor seemed to become, she didn't know how much longer she'd be able to stand without falling flat on her face! With that information sticking into the back of her mind, she looked around her. There were many felines conversing as they danced, hardly affected by the muddy terrain.
She could do this.
Another harsh drop of rain fell onto her face, and the lioness twitched before jumping back to attention. She could do this!
She could keep dancing!
And so she did, being ever so careful as she busted out the occasional move..
[ I missed a roll or two - but I hope its still OK if I jump back in? If not ignore my post xD ]

After slurping down the water so kindly given to her, Dauer had begun to sing again. She didn't mind the rain, but moved a little so that her body sheltered her sleeping puppies. The rain kept coming, though, and soon she was not only being rained heavily on, but she could feel what must be mud being slung by the dancers on the dance field. When a particularly heavy glop of it slapped her in the muzzle, she stopped singing to try and wipe her nose clean again. Blech.
This was the timing chosen by those of the Kaskazi tasked with baby duty. When they approached and offered safe, dry shelter for her puppies, the blind wild dog had to stop and consider. For most parents it would have been a no-brainer. For her, however, knowing where to look for her offspring later was vital, and she couldn't quite figure out how to ensure that she would be able to locate them later. Another splash of mud thrown her way, spattering the pups as well as her legs was what decided her.
What good was it to continue to sing when mud could land in her open mouth anytime? No, it was time to call it quits. She nudged her pups awake enough to follow her, then turned to the one offering shelter. "I think we'll all go," she answered softly. The party was over for her. Plus, wasn't it getting close to dawn anyway? She cocked an ear as she followed the pride member away from the song and dance. Her internal clock said yes, the sun would soon be rising, though the land was still black as night. Those stormclouds must be terribly thick and dark to keep the sunrise from them!

It was hard to tell if dawn was close or not, but it should be, right? The dance master motioned to the musicians, and the music changed to a roaring crescendo. And as if the weather Gods themselves were feeling the rhythm a flash and a bang ended the music very spectacularly. Was the dance really over or had the nearby thunderstrike just stunned the musicians? The thunderstrike was close enough to make ears ring and frighten the sleeping minors, but it struck a small hill nearby and not the dance area or the celebrants watching the dance. But... Is that smoke? This doesn't look good... Despite all the rain there's enough dry grass and bushes for the lightning strike to set a small fire. And unfortunately the strong and unpredictable gusts of wind aren't helping. Heimdall climbed one of the hollow logs again. Perhaps not the smartest move given the recent lightning strike, but he needed to see that everyone was all right. That had sounded really close, but it looked as if everyone was on their feet and not physically hurt. Whew... Time to wrap this up then!
"Well," he said with a small chuckle, "That wasn't quite the ending we had planned, but I think it's safe to say that it should be dawn by now."
He looked as if he had a small speech planned, but as the scent of smoke reached his nostrils he fell silent and whipped his head around to see where it could originate. Fire. This was not good at all.
"Change of plans everyone," he said, "Unless we want our home to burn down we need to do something."
He jumped down from his log, and splashed through a puddle of muddy water. Hopefully it would protect him enough. Going against every shred of survival instinct he ran up to the small fire and started stomping at the baby flames, ignoring the scent of burning fur. exclaim Stomp out the fire! (bonus round) Roll 1-10! We need to reach the number 30 to put out the fire! If the fire is not put out after 2 hours you may roll again, but only if at least one person has posted after your previous post.
