Ai lent against his mother, barely suppressing a whimper as he felt her warmth next to him. Her words would have brought a tear to his eye, had he not been in too much pain to cry. He felt himself relax though. His sisters were there. His mother too. He was safe. "Thanks momma," he whispered softly, but felt the world becoming hazy around him. He passed out before long, the pain exceeding his tolerance.

Hu had stayed silent, his face set into stone. He heard his mate's words and he felt his heart break. He had failed his family. Each and every one of them. He couldn't believe it. He was...he couldn't even think.

"We need to get him back to the colony," he said quietly, his voice emotionless. He had shut down. It was easier than facing the fact he had let his son get hurt.

"Can I move him, daughter?" Hu asked Ua, avoiding looking at Scheherazade.

Ua smiled warmly at her sister, knowing that Sayuri was panicking and she felt herself being oddly calm. Perhaps Ua was past panic. She just felt numb. She could deal with herself being hurt, but her brother? She could see Chiyo struggling in the distance and she hated it.

"You can move him Papa, the bleeding his stopped," she agreed, "but be very gently. If he reopens the wounds, it'll be hard to stop it again when we're moving." She rose to her paws, prepared to help her father shift Ai onto his back.

She had seen Naim in the distance, but saw him leave just as quickly. Was he disappointed in her? She couldn't bare it if he was. She didn't know why, but his opinion mattered very highly to her. She sighed, and fussed over Ai, preparing to head back to the colony and tend to him properly.
