[GM PRP] A peculiar dream [Shun/???]

There was a snort and, as Shun looked through the phoropter, he would see him. His body was mostly shadow, though the white of his shadow eye was visible, and he looked gaunt. Unhealthy. As if he was bleeding out but it was shadows and this was how he was to waste away.

"In a way," he replied, "but not quite. Do you want to know? How I failed?"

The other Shun certainly had seen better days.

"You look like s**t," he commented, "But sure. Go ahead and share."

There was bark of laughter, sharp and loud. He was right there in front of the phoropter, eyes staring straight into Shun's. "You really do not understand how far you can fall."

That was all the warning he got because in the next moment he was enveloped in shadows again. As they retreated, the sounds of a fight echoed and his double was thrown through the door way, looking beaten and bruised.

And there the world went once more. Blinking a few times, he turned towards the sounds of conflict, only to see himself getting thrown through a doorway. It didn't seem like he was doing so well in this fight.

This time there was not static, instead there was a low growl as someone shapeless - purposely so - stalked towards his double. "You didn't uphold your end of the deal," the voice was made of gravel.

Shun was picking himself up, shadow blade at the ready and watching warily. No response from him. There was no point.

Instead combat broke out again and it became obvious that while he was powerful, this Shun was no match for his opponent. Soon enough, his own blade was turned in his own hand and pressed towards his chest. "The price," the voice spoke, "of failure."

Shun's eye widened a bit as he saw the shadowy entity assault his double. In silence, he watched the fray, seeing the way that his other self was stabbed through the chest with his own weapon.

He didn't know the terms of the deal that ultimately caused this. It didn't matter in the end.

A broken promise was never good.

The scene faded away, Shun once more left in the seat with the phoropter in front of his face. His double paced still, seen every so often through the glass lenses.

"I'll spare you. You're aware of how it ended," he spoke. "Yet that doesn't mean I can't offer you a little help. Probably my last bit."

Once he saw that he was back in Other Ashdown, Shun blinked a few times. When his vision came back into focus, he eyed his ghastly double before him.

"I hope you are not planning on striking a deal with me like you had with that entity."

"Deals are for shitheads. Time has taught me a thing or two and I can give that knowledge to you." A wordless, soundless shrug.

"You in or what?"

"Sure there is still a cost to this knowledge," Shun stated.

It just might not necessarily be imposed on him from his double.

"I already paid the price," came the reply.

Yet now Shun was now faced with his double looking directly into the phoropter at him. "I make no promises this won't hurt."

That was all the warning he got because in the next moment the shadows surged forward, out of his double, and into him. It was not unlike when the shadow blade had made it's home with him. Except that this was distinctly different. It was going into where his eye had once been and feel as if something was taking the place of the eyeball.

The sensation was foreign and heavy and burned. Yet as the burning faded, as it simply became an odd feeling of empty socket yet not at the same time, Shun would realize he could see once more. It was not at all the same as his regular eye saw.

Shun's head jerked back as the shadows surged into him. While he wasn't being stabbed in the chest, this really wasn't all that pleasant to experience either as his left eye socket began to fill. And that burned. Sharply, he hissed while recoiling back from the phoropter and instinctively slapping a hand over the left side of his face.

As the sensation faded, he let out a slow breath, blinking a few times. There was a pause as he realized there was vision within his left eye once again.

Sort of.

Within his right eye, everything was fine and looked normal - as much as other ashdown was normal - but within his left ...

Things were a blur, clearly some sort of adjustment phase, but they were also dark and shadowy outlines. The eye itself seemed to be leaking shadows; an eerie feeling of something brushing up and down away from the eye socket (along his cheek and along his forehead).

The phoropter was pushed away and his double stood before him. He was simultaneously visible and not visible as he could be seen with his left eye but not his right.

He looked as if he had been eaten from the inside out by darkness. "You'll have to figure out how it works on your own but it'll even the playing field for you back out."

It was disorienting. But at the same time, there was something a little familiar here. The dark outlines were kind of like those brief flashes he had been getting. Only now it was persistant. And when his double came into view, sort of, he found it strange to see him with this sort of double vision he had going on.

And he looked even worse.

"What the hell..." he uttered, squinting as he was not used to seeing like this at all. He could also feel something brushing up against his cheek. Hesitantly, he felt that area around his face. There was something there, but he couldn't really tell what it was. While he was at it, he tried to look at his own hand.

Everything was a strange, shadowy outline that was coming and out of focus. His own hand was blurred and shadowy and the area around his face felt normal- though the eye that was now there felt odd and out of place.

Even if it was supposed to be there.

Figure that one out.

"You'll figure it out. You always do." The voice was tired. "Don't waste it."
