Lykas was a tiny bit peeved that Roxanne hadn't been bothered by him ignoring her but as she explained the rules and set the stage for the field, he nodded in understanding. "I always heard you were somewhat stuck up for your age. Looks like the rumors were true." He said to the woman across from him as he plucked a Pokeball from his belt.
With only two Pokemon allowed in this battle and the battlefield as dry as it was, he decided to stick to his lesser known and more land-capable Pokemon. Unfortunately, that left him with very few of his "pretty" Pokemon he preferred to battle with. So instead, he decided to bring in Yarrow for the moment. The Crabrawler could use the experience, after all.
Tossing the ball into the battlefield, he did have to give props to whoever designed that barrier. It seemed like it was capable of differentiating between things it should block from passing through and things it shouldn't. As Lykas' Pokemon emerged and the ball bounced back to him, he gave Geodude an analytical look. This wasn't exactly his strong suit but Pokemon weak to Water-types were usually pretty easy to tell.
"Yarrow, we get the first move. Use Power-Up Punch!" He directed. The Boxing Pokemon tucked his claws in close to his face and scuttled across the battlefield, taking in what he had to work with around him and sizing up his opponent as he drew closer. Once he was within range, he'd throw a measured jab at the living boulder, claw aglow with Fighting energy. "Let's see how she reacts..." Lykas said to himself, quietly, watching carefully.

Yarrow was certain he'd hit Geodude at first but as his claw stopped glowing, the thing he'd punched faded away. "Careful, Yarrow!" Lykas called to his partner. "Use Scald! Aim up through the Sandstorm!" He instructed the crab, fighting the urge to use Icy Wind and blow away the sand, himself. This wasn't about him, after all. He had to prove he could lead his Pokemon to victory just as well, if not better, than he could claim it for himself.
Yarrow nodded and looked up toward Geodude, spitting a steaming geyser of water up through the swirling sands and toward not just Geodude but toward the stone it hung from. Even if his attack missed, he intended to splatter the burning-hot water into a painfully hot rain over this part of the battlefield.

SubonicXP "Rock Polish and come down with Bulldoze." Roxanne ordered, the students appearing to be far more animated over the battle than the gym leader herself, than again she was the analytic type so she was probably focusing greatly on the battle at hand. With a shimmer of energy Geodude's body would become sleeker and more smooth. The Rock Pokemon would begin to swing off the point rock spire when the Scald came and blasted it just as it let go, hot water splashing against the Pokemon's body as it grunted in pain, the top of the rock spire blasted clean off by the Water move. Keeping its momentum despite the pain it just suffered, the Sandstorm helping cushion the blow a big thanks to the Special Defense boost, Geodude would come crashing back down to the ground behind Yarrow and would slap its hands on the ground at the same time its body landed creating a concentrated shock wave which upheavaled sand and stone as it rushed towards Yarrow in the form of a miniature 'tidal wave' of rubble. "Power-Up Punch!" Lykas called out. "Ride the wave if you can't stop it!" Yarrow nodded and, tucking it's claws in tight, the Boxing Pokemon began to throw a flurry of glowing punches. Shattering as much of the rubble as possible and using the chance to build up some power. By the time the wave rally caught him, he'd managed to make one tiny patch of mostly-sand in a sea of rubble. Jumping into the sand patch, he followed Lykas' instructions and rode it as far as possible. When it began to come apart however, he felt the rubble crumbling and crashing down on him from the higher parts of the wave as the kinetic energy gave out. "Brawl!" The Crabrawler yelped as he was buried beneath the crashing wave of stone. He didn't let it keep him down, however. "Frost Breath!" Lykas ordered. Yarrow nodded and inhaled sharply before blowing out a sub-zero stream of ice-filled breath that would be closer to direct contact with dry ice than a freezing ice-type move. Startling and painful but not as "cold" as it should be, the attack would hit hard if Geodude thought for a moment that it had the upper hand for now.

Geodude was completely caught off guard by Crabrawler's tenacity, his drive to fight through not only the Sandstorm but also the tidel wave of rubble and debris he had sent to consume him. He threw everything it had at him and he still push through with sheer willpower and strength and came out on the other side to deliver a painful Frost Breath upon the Geodude which immediately cried out in pain, this one attack alone seeming to put the Pokemon down to dangerous health levels.
"Impressive. Your Pokemon was confronted with an impassible mountain and despite climbing it he simple smashed his way through and succeeded. Learn from this students. While knowledge and calculated risk is always prefered there will come points in your life and in battles where you'll have to just summon forth your strength, have faith in yourself, and smash through the obstacles before you. Thank you for providing this lesson, mister Lykas, but the battle much go on." Roxanne said, complimenting Lykas before resuming the fight.
"Other times you have to count your losses and go from there." She said, recalling Geodude. While he was in a critical state the Rock Pokemon wasn't exactly knocked out yet, how it barely survived was one's question but the bigger question was why Roxanne pulled it out already. Regardless the Gym Leader did not delay before tossing out a Poke Ball, the device popping open to reveal her signature Pokemon, much to the joy of her now rambunctious students.
Nooosepaaass..." Moaned the Nosepass as it appeared from the body, lazily rocking side to side on its stone feet as it waited for orders.
"Nosepass, Secret Power." She ordered.
Secret Power the Nosepass turned its focus on the Sandstorm brewing around it. Utilizing its Sand Force ability to empower its attack the Nosepass would tap into the Sandstorm its self and unbeknownst to their challengers they had another advantage at play here, a home field advantage as this stone and rubble, which Crabrawler so kindly helped them grind into small particles contain other magnetic alloys in them. With such an combination of environment and and abilities Nosepass began to take control of the swirling sand winds himself, sending condensed blasts in the form of sand 'punches' at Crabrawler. In their flurry they seemed to come from anywhere, but that wasn't true. They had a source, a source of which all compasses must point in.

Lykas kept his mouth shut when Roxanne spoke up and starter her whole, "Teacher" schtick. "Oi..." When Nosepass emerged, he started to call a counter attack but, before he really could, Yarrow was pummeled by sand punches from the North until the crab was more black and blue than he was supposed to be. Yarrow hadn't quite fainted yet but Lykas knew he didn't have it in him to keep going for much longer after that was over. "Tenacity can only get you so far." He reminded himself before he replaced the ball to his belt and briefly considered who to send in to finish the battle.
He briefly considered Moor as well as Delmare but the Finneon was too inexperienced, he felt, plus there was the distinct lack of water on the battlefield. And Delmare he wanted to save for Wallace, if he could. Cordelia was his third choice, given her typing. But ultimately, he decided on one of his less-often-seen Pokemon. Tossing a ball into the battlefield, he released the Pokemon within and caught it as it bounced back to him.
"Palaeo, watch out for attacks from the North and use Mud Shot on that Nosepass!" He warned the toad as it materialized., directing him to attack in the same breath. Palaeo nodded and, using the very layer of slime on his body he used to retain moisture, he trapped some of the swirling sands and used them to hurl a concussive blast of mud toward the Rock-type manipulating them.

As the Supersonic rung out the entire body of students would moan and groan as they pressed their hands over their ears. It sounded horrible but they were all too far away, and human, not to be affected by it. The two hybrid students seemed a little more uncomfortable but they were fine as well. Roxanne on the other hand stood firm and didn't even flinch, her Nosepass seemed to do the same but only because it couldn't really move much, from Lykas could see it was indeed confused as its eyes swirled a bit, for now at least.
"Insufferable? My students often tell me that they enjoy my lectures." Roxanne responded, legitimately confused by Lykas' comment. For now she shrugged it off and focused on the battle at hand. "I suppose I could be more to the point. Observe in silence and hold onto your seats, class. Nosepass, use Earthquake."
The students would immediately brace themselves as they heard the command, Roxanne herself spread her feet apart a little wider but still standing firm. Her Nosepass would manage to shake off its confusion for now and without even budging utilize its magnetic powers to trigger an Earthquake which shook the field and gym violently. The biggest impact was contained to the actual field as the building was specifically designed to withstand such a move however the students still felt a bit of a tremor as the bleachers shook slightly but alas they were fine.
Palaeo on the other hand would not be as the ground rattled causing nearby boulders to crack and break which then sent rock and debris all over the place. If the frog liked to vibrate then it would love this...not.

"Palaeo, use the earthquake to help you move!" Lykas ordered his toad. The amphibian nodded and, with the help of his slimy body, he slid across the stones as they rocked and shook beneath him. That didn't mean the shaking wasn't affecting him, of course, leaving him less healthy than he had been a few moments before, but he was going to make this work. Without ever getting more than one froggy foot off the ground, Palaeo slid his way toward Nosepass fairly quickly, aiming to get to it's side or behind it if he could. By the time he made it close enough to attack, he found himself being raised into the air by an upended piece of the battlefield. Thanks to Gravity being in effect, though, he was dragged back to the ground at more speed than he could have gotten on his own. "Now! Drain Punch!" The toad nodded and, as he slid across the ground, he threw a punch with a swirling vortex of fighting energy at the Nosepass, sapping it's stamina for himself if he managed to hit it.

As the toad moved in on Nosepass Roxanne would not order a command, instead she noted the dazed look in the Rock-type's eyes and knew what that meant. Lykas would soon figure out why she didn't order an attack as the Nosepass swayed a bit before falling to the side, hurting its self in confusion and leaving it as a sitting duck as his toad punched the living Rock and drained some of its energy away. Unfortunately the Super Effective move, coupled with the damage it already took and the confusion was too much for the Nosepass to handle and it promptly fainted.
"Unfortunately class no matter how much you train your Pokemon there are some things simply out of your control." Roxanne declared as she recalled her Pokemon, the woman turning to the ref and giving them a nod.
"Right! Gym Leader Roxanne is out of usable Pokemon, victory goes to the challenger, Lykas of Sootopolis City!" The ref declared with a cry, causing the class to gasp in shock for a moment before breaking out into polite applause. Roxanne would smile as her students clapped for Lykas, the woman then making her way towards the hybrid on the other side of the field just as the Sandstorm dissipated.
"Congratulations. Take this Stone Badge proof of your victory and mastery over the Rustboro City Gym. I hope your time here proved educational." Roxanne said as she presented Lykas with the geometrically designed badge which rested in the small open case which the woman held out. There was one other thing in the case as well, a small CD. "Please also take this educational video as well, a TM on how to teach your Pokemon the gym's signature move; Rock Tomb. Unfortunately I was unable to display in the battle for you but I'm sure your Seismitoad could make excellent use of it."
(Crabrawler gains +3 Evo Points.)
