yum_strawberry Second Challenge - Happy Birthday, Lisa! yum_strawberry

Title: "The Gentle Butterfly"
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Designer: clowniing
Model: Rhiannon

Description:
First of all... Happy birthday!! : D Hope you had a good birthday week!!! I had to submit this entry a lil bit later than I intended to, because I'm pretty sick atm, but making this outfit was actually very therapeutic and calming...

I chose to reimagine outfit #2, "The Green Fairy". As soon as I saw "fairy", I just HAD to go with that one, since I'm a bit obsessed with fae creatures. I really liked the idea of the kerchief and flower accessory on the original outfit, so I chose to give Rhiannon a frilly kerchief and delicate flower accesory.

I also decided to give her more of a 'butterfly fairy' kind of vibe, so she sports a pair of fluffy wings and cute antennas! As always, the colors are more pastel leaning and soft, and I stuck to only three colors - green, yellow and white, as those are the colors present in the original outfit. I wanted the overall scene to show a little scenario I imagined in my head...

A person is hiking through the woods and steps out onto a sunlit clearing, where they happen to spot Rhiannon. The startled butterfly fairy immediately flutters off, leaving the person to wonder if perhaps the sunlight was just playing tricks on their eyes.

The outfit I chose to reimagine was "Kiss Me Kill Me". once I saw that checkered hat I figured out how I wanted this outfit to go. I kept the main pieces from the outfit; Fishnets, silver earrings, Short skirt, Blazer/Coat, Eyepatch, etc.
The main inspiration is actually from the title of the outfit itself, "Kiss Me Kill Me" which was so fun to play with. I see this outfit as a type of "mastermind" or "main villain" type deal, and a kind of chess-based undertone seemed to make sense to me. thought it would be perfect for Lulu, making everything follow one colour scheme to draw attention to those lovely curls again. and to get to see her in a more badass type outfit rather than something softer like my previous one. I certainly think bolder looks like this fit her better.

Title: The Seafoam Widow - Inspired by 'Kiss Me, Kill Me'

Description: Happy Birthday fellow January baby! <3 While I was initially drawn to this look because it was posted on my birthday, I fell in love with the monochrome, slightly edgy/ slightly androgynous feel of the original look! A lot of my early avatars had a similar vibe and it reminds me of the good 'ol days of Go Gaia~

For this look I wanted to definitely play into the story that the title alludes to, thus this Victorian inspired look was born! Meet Talia, a widower who spends most of her days gazing into the sea, wishing for her husband to come back... Or stay away?

I paired a dress with two different overskirts to get the same pouf and elements of a tailcoat that the original look had and combined those with a bolero and soldier like arms to retain the formal masculine top with feminine bottom that I enjoyed from Kiss Me, Kill Me. In lieu of a pocket watch, Talia is accessorized with waist chains and a bow which added an asymmetry to the look that adds a bit of edginess and modernity. On her legs, nothing beats the original fishnets so I substituted the genie shoes for some high heel booties to make the look more chic. To finish it off, a hat with a bit of patterning and of course a flower were placed on top to tie the outfit together along with a subtle bandage on her eye.

I also took to heart the last critique I got and decided to give her a full background, with moody lighting, a view of the sea, a light amount of rolling fog, and beautiful dark greenery to make all of the white and cream pop in the image.

Outfit title: Among the clouds, Inspired by 2."The green fairy"

Description:
Happy birthday!
It was hard to choose just one of the outfits presented but I felt as if the second one fit my own personal aesthetic the most. I've dressed my fairy up in two lovely green colors with accents of yellow and offblack. I've added flowers to the design to also keep with the original design a bit. I also felt that this aesthetic just fit with amren too perfectly to pass up. I've also added a bit of a magical feel to it since she is holding a wand in the original.

Challenge #2
Lisa, It's Your Birthday! Happy Birthday, Lisa!
Feedback

Top Designer: Dickjoke — Talia
• You listened to feedback and it shows. This is one of the strongest entries, with a near perfect description.
• It was maybe a little too different from the original, but, that is a slight thing.

ICLite — Lulu
• You are the first Designer the judges seen that's picked a reference outfit based on the needs of your Model,
rather than personally preferred subject matter. Not only is the design gorgeous,
but you were the first to show a look built upon 4.
• The description could have used more attention in the content and format.
Some judges felt that something's somewhat off with Lulu's face.

Haji Demon — Maritza
• The judges loved that the could tell what look inspired you right off the bat, and the pose was a great choice.
The layering of the skirt and things was a particularly smart idea.
• There might be one or two items too many with the sprinkles and things, and the red flower hat stands out a bit much.

mythological irony — Sumati
• The judges like the make up chosen, and it was a smart way to keep the mask. The nods to the original were appreciated,
and this look truly complimented Sumati.
• Changing your entire entry is a bold choice that left the judges very divided. However the judges all felt this look
leaned simple and would have liked to see some more original elements.

Ultrabord — Esther
• This is a good design. The motif is clear, and it shows your love for it well. The description helped amp up your entry.
• Some judges felt that without the description, they wouldn't know your look was inspired by "The Witching Hour!".
The look needed a couple more witchy elements. And the lips being different stripped you off some points.

clowniing — Rhiannon
• The description is wonderfully done, and the general thought process behind the look is great.
Rhiannon is beautiful and this is a complete, updated look.
• The mint is a little light and doesn't fully read enough like green, which is a little bit of a miss for a
look called The Green Fairy. The light look also makes Rhiannon stand out in a near negative way.
It also really brings out the blue undertone in her skin.

Detrimentum — Helena
• The idea of drenching the Material Girl in jewels is a smart one, and the judges admire that it is a reimagining.
The color scheme also looks very flattering on Helena.
• It would have been nice to have one or two more elements that tied in to the original look.

HELLPRIEST — Seren
• All the judges liked this look, and we appreciate being able to immediately identify the inspiration. It is fun.
Chose good elements to incorporate into the look that came from the original.
• The look is a little top heavy/has the illusion of being top heavy because the legs are so tiny. It also didn't feel as
creative as some of the other looks are.

smol bab — Amren
• This was a popular Green Fairy look for the judges, and your chosen color scheme complimented Amren very well.
• You don't need to post every angle of the design, the back angles on this design do not work well.
The shoes also clashed with the dress a little.

cynicalsix — Maria
• Maria looks beautiful, and we love seeing you take on "Kiss Me, Kill Me", with clear references.
• The mouth mod is a big no no. Not only is it a big no no to do it, but the judges didn't feel like the
mod benefited the look in the slightest. The filter is also a bit strong for some of the judges.

Mini Black Velvet — Laurel
• The judges commend you for posting your entry first. This is another stylish look from you.
• Speed wasn't your best friend here. The ideas were great, but it needed more elements from the original,
as it is straying a tad too far from "Mistress of the Night".

Neapolitangirl — Ava
• This was a fun update on Material Girl, and the judges liked the Winx club vibes you chose to go for.
• The white washes Ava out a little, bringing in some blue could have helped, and more accessories would have
tied it to the original look a bit more.

ShiroOkazaki — Aubrie
• The judges loved the rave concept and thought it was a fantastic idea to draw from, the neon and bright
colors immediately relate this look to the original in the best way.
• This design simply did not work for the judges. More neon would have helped, and a more set theme
with colors chosen as it is just a little too randomized.

BloodAngel95 — Bryce
• This is a nicely balanced look, with the mask, boots and ears tying in to the inspiration look well.
• The judges unanimously agreed this look just wasn't right for Bryce. The red of her hair just ends up looking jarring.
In the future adding some red elsewhere would help the look a little.

Princess Warfare — Summer
• This is nicely balanced, colors are flattering. The overall appeal is nice,
and the narrative highlights greatly enhanced the description.
• This entry is eerily similar to Hell's. Same colour scheme, comparable
background decor, related stylizing, and even a synonymous title.
And all the judges agreed that the eyebrows weren't the right choice for Summer.

Eliminated: Queentintin — Charmaine
• The look is cute. "My Curse" suits Charmaine well, and we appreciate you having fun.
• Your biggest downfall was your description. The judges unanimously
agreed that there was no connection of it to the outfit.
It also didn't help that your description had more creativity than your outfit.

Outfit Title: Stolen Moment
Designer: ShiroOkazaki
Model: Aubrie

Description: Aubrie has been on the hunt for love, but it seems to have found her where she least expected it. This shining moment was brought to her by a research paper and some overheard lyrics.

I struggled with finding the right companion for Aubrie because she strikes me as such a colorful person, but we all know that opposites attract. I tried some other pairings, but it felt right to pair Aubrie with someone heartfelt and simple, who doesn't want to fight for the spotlight.

As much as I loved the idea of Aubrie having a loud, dance-filled loved connection, this quiet meeting felt like what she needed. I loved the muted orange color scheme for this casual outfit, she might be going to study but she never goes anywhere without planning a cute look. This gives her a shot of confidence no matter where she goes.

First Date for the hundredth time
User Image

Designer: Haji Demon
Model: Maritza

Description:

Its a lot of hard work working at the beach all day. Makes Maritza wish a hundred wishes up to the sky that she were somewhere else, doing something else, but while she belonged to world all day, starting evening, the world belongs to her. Its her and her boyfriend's daily ritual, each night they get ready like its their first date and just visit the market each night, trying new things, trying new places. They might not be rich, but things arent too expensive in these neck of woods either. But even without it, just the comfort and joy they find in each other is worth the hundred wishes coming true and raining upon them.

I tried to set the location like its not some fancy place. They would be dining under the stars and some cheap lighting kind of thing. So had to play with some effects to enhance them. Like I tried to manage things so that top left side has brighter colors so it looks like they are receiving more light. I love her legs, but they were giving an odd looking white belt above where I would've liked them to be, so I masked them with the star belt. I wanted to give her a tattoo too, but nothing was satisfying. I let the right side be a bit empty so that the location they are at makes more sense. Had to match the wood colors in background too

Outfit Title: Untraditional Romance
Status: Complete

Description

What's more timeless than the classic love story between a knight and the princess or prince they're protecting? I went with a twist on the classic medieval romance trope, where Esther the female knight carries her newly wedded nonbinary royal spouse. The pose is inspired by the tradition of a groom carrying his bride over the threshold of their new home together, but breaks traditional assigned gender roles.

I chose to keep a more knightly look for Esther as opposed to a classic wedding suit or dress (chest plate, boots and part of her headdress), but add a few adornments like the winged skirt that matches the headpiece, which is designed to evoke the purity of a knight's heart and match the dove motif, as well as a few roses inspired by a classic bridal hairpiece and some gold and diamond jewelry. Pink roses and doves are classic additions to a traditional wedding, and somewhere off-scene a flower girl has tossed a few petals into the air, enveloping the happily married couple. The model's spouse is wearing traditional late medieval prince's attire, in dove-inspired ivory and gray colors.

Outfit Title: The Dance
User Image
Description:
I hardly ever use a companion that is not animals, so this was going to be a challenge for sure! I had a few potential partner for bryce. I was leaning strongly for the first one and even came up with a few cute date outfits and two date scenarios, but as I was having trouble deciding between them I got a complete different idea. A dance. I'm obsessed with historical romance webtoons. Now bryce with her big puffy red curls isn't a typical female lead in this type of setting, but like with Merida from brave it shall work some how!

This the scenario.
A prince went to valentine ball held in another kingdom to find a potential marriage partner. There he sees Bryce and is stunned by her beauty, mesmerized he walks over to her without planning what to say. Once he is directly in front of her he decides to be bold and humble. The prince get down on one knee and ask her to dance. She says yes.

Judges wanted me to use red in my last entry, and with that in mind I used red. Probably more than what was expected, but I tried to make white the primary color to her gown while also balancing out the red, black, and gold through out. The only color I wasn't able to add/match was the pink from her lips, I tried finding a headpiece (qi of twilight) with the same shade, there were many pink but not the same shade. Regardless I love how the overall look came out extravagant yet elegant.

I wrote a short story about this avi, it came out a bit long to post so read at your discretion.

In this look, I've taken to the age old trope of 'starcrossed' or 'forbidden' love- an Angel and a Demon bound together by the red string of fate, doomed to fall head over heels for one another despite their stations in life. I've attempted to take on the critique I've received, straying away from the 'top heavy' designs I've had in the past. I attempted to balance this look out more with better proportioned legs, as well as attempted to fill out the design a bit more. I don't really like using complete backgrounds that box off the silhouette of the model entirely so I've chosen to add a bit of rose petals of the two different shades- the glowing pink that represents the demon's burning desire, and the more demure powder blue that Seren wears to convey her purity.

I also have always loved the Alruna's Rose line and feel that the models from that set are undervalued- they still hold up years later so that's also what inspired this look! There were several poses to choose from and I almost chose the one that had Anurla caressing Seren's face but I felt that it hid too much of her frame and would've likely gotten points deducted off of my design. I also chose against taking on more of the sexual poses because that felt just a bit too over the top even though the challenge is for romance. I also tried to keep the more gold elements around her face and head to give the design a more sort of focal point on her, similar to a renaissance painting.

The pink flowers throughout are meant to tie the entire look together- to bring out the pinks of his eyes and the tips of his horns so they wouldn't seem so out of place in the design.

I chose the look mainly because Seren is just absolutely perfect for the angelic look with her hair and eye colors, and her slightly pouty lips. I added a pop of the red/pink eyeliner & some blush to give just a hint that she might be a little less than the perfect angel.

The wings i chose for her also come with a feathered & leather demon wing- this is also to portray the fact that she's converting a bit to the 'dark' side to be with her lover!

・❥・Title: Love at first sight
・❥・Description: Woah!...you're so much prettier in real life! This is Amren's first time meeting her online partner of two years, she's decided to treat them to a day at the aquarium for their first date. After only seeing each other through a screen for so long both of them are pretty nervous but Amren puts on a cool attitude to counteract her own nervousness.

You'll see that Amren is dressed up nice while her partner prefers to dress more laid back, the classic trope of overdressed & underdressed couple. I've dressed my model in a offblack and light pink color scheme to compliment her skin color and not go too overboard for a date night outfit, you may also notice her shell hair clip which I thought went nicely with the aquarium theme. I had a bit of a difficult time finding a partner that I thought matched with Amren's vibe but ultimately I decided a person who is shy and a bit lighter than her big personality. I really love the concept and I hope at least a couple of you can relate to this like I can.

Let's snap a picture before we go see the otters!

☆゜・。。・゜゜・。。・゜★

Not all love stories have the luck to end
with a 'Happily Ever After', do they?

"Won't you share one last dance with me, my love?", Rhiannon whispers to her darling.
She waltzes through the church, illuminated only by the soft flickers of the candles and the silver
moonlight pouring in through the windows. The mauve petals strewn about the marble floor reflect
the pale light, dipping everything in a warm pink hue.

There is no music, yet Rhiannon hums an out-of-tune melody.
In her mind, she can hear the song both of them danced to all those years ago
when they first met. They fell in love with each other that fateful day.

Tears fall down Rhiannon's cheeks. She knows this is the last time her hands will touch those of her deathly beloved.
But right now she chooses to live in the moment, hoping that this one last dance will never end...

I'm a sucker for tragic love stories, so for the Valentine's Day theme I chose to go with exactly that! I actually started something completely different in the beginning, but suddenly stopped and thought 'I want to try something new with Rhiannon this time'. I also changed a few things last minute because I didn't like the weight balance of the original piece.

While there are white accents throughout and the pink/mauve does still lean into the pastels I usually use for Rhiannon, I also incorporated darker colors as well to go for a more gothic / mournful look, which was a fun experiment!! I also experimented with layering several objects over each other, which I hadn't really done before! I honestly spent a lot of time just trying out different combinations of items/colors for the light beam, candles, coffin, background and flower petals. It was fun!!! : D Also hearing that we're encouraged to play around with the design of our submission post is super nice to hear!! Until now I focused entirely on readability and keeping things simple & organized. Now I have the permission to 'pretty' things up a bit! >:3

I was inspired by the song "IDORU" by Grimes, which I highly recommend you listen to. This design has evolved DRASTICALLY every day, often multiple times per day. I sort of let my gut and limited knowledge of color theory lead me while I held on to the feeling of unconditional love, acceptance, and patience. Those things, for me, are the foundation of a meaningful and healthy relationship, romantic or not. The context behind this scene/lyrics has evolved to Summer spending time with her love, Elaine, enjoying the flowers that they both tend to.
The "even though we're gonna lose," is a nod to how, historically, women who are very much in love are always said to be "good friends," which is heartbreaking to say the least. Let it be known that Summer and Elaine's relationship IS exactly what it looks like, and they both love and accept each other as they are in each moment. I love how Elaine is looking up at Summer almost playfully, but with tremendous adoration and endearment.

This was a challenge to balance the different colors this time around, but Adept's Prophecy (background) was the main inspiration.
This was a marathon of balancing colors and making sure the tones/hues/etc matched. I hope I was successful!
I loooooove adding filters btw, and I definitely layered them to give the background a dreamier effect, and to help Elaine and Summer stand out in this intimate moment that they can share away from judging eyes.

Challenge
Just the Two of Us
Designers, it's come to our attention that your Models are feeling lonely! And to remedy this, it'll be your job to set them up with an equipable Valentine's date! You can go casual, formal, or just plain crazy with your style choices, so long as you can explain their on-going relationship or meet-cute scenario. Feel free to use men, women, androgynous peoples, and human hybrids as your Model's date.

Description
Sumati was once human, but one day she made a deal with a demon to save her daughter's life. In return, she was to give up her soul and live the rest of her days as a husk. The demon that made the deal with her felt sorrow, however, and instead turned her into a demon as well. After that, he took her under his wing and helped her adapt to her new life, where she began to thrive and was able to look after her daughter from afar. Eventually, the demon and Sumati began to fall in love.

--------

My first idea was to use an angel companion along with Sumati's demon look and create a tale of forbidden love, but I found this demon companion, and knew immediately I wanted to use it instead, which I'm glad of because I've now seen that someone else had the same idea.

Originally I was going to have Sumati wearing mostly white, but she was looking too bridal and I didn't want the entry to read "wedding," so I added in some poppy and neptune, which eventually ended up taking up most of the outfit. I gave her some teal makeup with a poppy base underneath to match her clothes and some horns to match her demon companion. Lastly, I gave her an ornamental headpiece to make her look extra fancy.

I tried to make her outfit more complex than my last two, since that's been a critique I received. I also went less modern on the outfit, which helped me add more elements that I otherwise might not have.

Title: I Don't Know What to Do, Think I'm Fallin' for You!

Description: Whenever she recounts the story of how they met, Blair always makes a point to mention how it was her clumsiness that won her date from the captain of the local roller derby league. "I mean of course it was love at first sight, I literally made her fall for me!"

In return Talia would finish, "Yeah and I still have the bruises to prove it!"

In this meet-cute scenario I decided to go for a the classic trope of literally colliding with your love! I'm using this premise to flesh-out a little bit of Talia's life outside of being my muse and could not resist making her a roller derby girl to go with her fitness resolutions and punk rock initial debut.

Here, I tried to envision her with a day-to-day look that would still fit a hardcore skater so I paired her skates with my favorite ripped tights and some shorts for maneuverability on the rink. I gave her a cute tank top with what I imagine is the logo for her derby team (the Barton Town Cosmos btw) and to give her a look that matches her soon to be date with the white top/ blue bottom combination! Her tattoos, piercings, and bit of eyeliner keep her looking like a punk princess while still conveying that 'when you like someone you start to dress like them' vibe for their first meeting that I find very cute. Almost as cute as Talia finds her date, who actually made her so flustered she couldn't help but blush~

I am also very excited that Gaia actually had a roller rink background that has the same vibe of my local rink! I love the very cosy earth tones and warm wood, which I had to pair with disco lights because what is roller skating without the dance floor vibes haha.
