Challenge #3: Period.

Description: Designers! How well do you know your history? This week
we want to honor the fashions that have come before us. We want you to give
us a period piece. You can choose the era, the period, but be mindful that we
should be able to tell it is a period piece. If you choose an era that is too recent...
How literal or abstract you go is up to you. Do you want to design a traditional
outfit, or pick and choose pieces of the era to give us something original? Go
for it. Make us scream with passion for your fashion.
Due Date: Aug. 24

My thoughts

I want you to imagine, if you will, a bacchanal of gluttonous, lusty DEBAUCHERY! twisted twisted twisted

You all know about Fat Tuesday, which is the final day of the Carnival season, and it takes place the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday (the start of Lent/fasting season for Catholics). Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras, is the last chance for everyone to stuff their faces with food, wine, and get a lil freaky wink

If you are not familiar with Lent, it's typically a time to reflect and practice abstaining from something (mainly fasting), or other sorts of strict, no-fun-having-allowed practices. It is a time to be solemn, and serious, and definitely NOT time for doing body shots of wine off of your best friend Claressa's cleavage (wine body shots are not historically accurate, but I digress).

That is why I titled this look "The Sinner's Ball"; you KNOW they were committing all kinds of sins right before going to church the next day blaugh

The masks only became more and more elaborate as time went on, and they kept each patron's identity and socioeconomic status anonymous. Yes, the peasantfolk and the wealthy were all drinking and partying together! And everyone in between!

For Brandie's mask, I didn't want to cover her whole face, so I went with a Colombina-style mask; perfect for letting Brandie's charm shine through. I managed to subtly modify her lips by adding "Fondest Sigh" on top of her default mouth. I only did that to give an air of intrigue, as if she is making eye contact with someone across the room, inviting them closer with just a look.

I looked online at variations of dresses that women typically wore back then, and it was along the lines that my imagination conjured. I didn't want something that was too big in the foreground, and not so subtle that it gets lost either. I felt the crimson went well with the warmth of the background, and i captured some movement in the dress/skirt that gives Brandie's ensemble the perfect dynamic touch, though I hope you won't think I got lazy with her legs! I did layer a few different tops to achieve the beaded corset look plus the Colombina mask armmod really bring the outfit together. I didn't want Brandie to get cold, so I thought a shawl would be an elegant touch.

The Bacchus table is SO PERFECT, I couldn't believe my search actually turned up the perfect addition to the background. I built the scene around that, for the most part.

Spill the Tea

Description:
Amira went over to a friend’s house to have afternoon tea, better known as afternoonified. She found her friend bubbling with excitement. Amira didn't even have time to remove her bonnet before sitting down in the parlor. Looks like her friend has a juicy piece of gossip.
Amira: "oh, do tell."
Amira does not show too much excitement over what she hears but smiles slightly and remains pensive.
Friend: "keep it dry."
Amira: "Of course."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was excited about this weeks prompt. I love reading historical romance webtoons for the fashion! So many pretty outfits. Yes, when I think of period/era I think of the time of big fancy dress. I came up with three different looks for three different eras, the one feature here is my outfit number 2, my favorite of the three I came up with.
One of gaia latest item has a bonnet I have wanted to use and now is that time to use it!
I stumbled upon this lovely website while looking into bonnets, it basically had all the information I needed to create this Victorian period outfit. I was going to go for an outdoor garden setting; however, I could not find the right capelet! Either the colors were wrong, or it covered too much, I had to let the capelet go and go indoors.
Speaking of colors, dresses in the Victorian era were very vibrant. Out of all bonnets recolors this berry one felt perfect. I started looking for gowns specifically with a flounced skirt (ruffles up ruffles) because it looked interesting and fun. I found one that was an overskirt that overlayed with a gown, adding a layer and color! The gown shows a bit of the underskirt’s layers. With this detail I like to think that Amira is carelessly not worrying about proper etiquette, also in line with the reason she is still wearing a bonnet indoors.
I added a pink bodice with a V-shaped outline, keeping with the period/era fashion plus matching the bonnet. The arms I chose because of the visible flared elbow cuff, ideally in this era they would have been bigger though, and although you can't see it her other hand is at her back with fingers crossed! A secret? No promises. Fingers crossed to void a promise like this surface in records in the 1900s, but I kept it because I liked the arms over all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bonus
Victorian slang
afternoonified - A term used in the Victorian era to describe someone who was associated with the leisurely practice of taking afternoon tea, which had become fashionable at the time

do tell - This Victorian exclamation means the same thing as the popular modern expression "you don't say." It's an urge to dish the latest scoop.

keep that dry - If you shared some gossip during the Victorian era, you'd ask the person you told to "keep it dry." This is a request to keep information secret.

A Place to Grow Flowers at
User Image

Description:

A long time ago, though not that long really, in a place far away, though not far enough, some people decided that peace was not good enough. They shook hands on it and scars spread everywhere. Scars marched over the lands, flew over the valleys, climbed the mountains and crossed the rivers. They took over Raine's home all of a sudden and went so far that Raine never in her life traveled far enough to know a place where the scars werent there then. The Great War they called it, now monstrous can be called great too it seems. At least its over now and Raine decides to go live with her grandparents in the country. She has seen more than enough of things falling down, now she wishes to help things grow. That might be good for her and everyone else to find joy in that and have a reason to look up.

I set this entry around after WW1 in Europe. The outfit is amalgamation of some real time fashion back then plus some anime inspirations of around that era. There are a lot of other things I wanted to try with it. Like I wanted her to hold a suitcase in front and have some old timey vehicle in background, but I couldnt find right items if gaia even has it. I originally planned to have it presented like an old memory and give it an old photograph kind of look, but I would have to drain a lot of colors from it and in the end I decided that vibrant colors represents the outlook more.

For outfit I knew I wanted to use the top from Rose saga or something similar to that. The collar+tie was a great find though, I just accidentally stumbled on perfect one, before it I had an uneasy layering of 2 tops. Skirt was the biggest challenge, my illiteracy for proper terms and gaia's lack of tagging made in really hard to find proper length skirt. I wanted it to go past knees, but not cover the feet entirely, fortunately an anime reference led me to it while I was searching for something else. I wasnt sure about the scars, but it felt they added more to the character in the end

"The expression of an effort to put a bit of gaity into a world burdened with problems." -Grace Margaret Morton, The Arts of Costume and Personal Appearance

Hello Judges and viewers,

I have really enjoyed chatting via letters, but unfortunately I can just not fit everything into a letter this time, I fear. Hopefully HOPEFULLY you could tell from the model alone, but I chose the 1940's fashion to tackle for this challenge, and boy, did she deliver!

First, I'll set the scene. A melancholy background... a destroyed city, with dim fire far away and a lingering smoke.
Gray and black so indistinguishable that you barely notice the rats crawling on the concrete.
In the center of this void, Luz stands as a desperately needed pop of color.

The 1940's were a period marked by World War II, a period when the world tossed in turmoil. With the start of another war at the end of the Great Depression, people longed for any source of light and sparkle during these particularly devastating times. To cheer spirits and rally their patriotism, the trends of the time were HATS of every color and shape, a bold red lip, rosy cheeks, stripes, pins, and of course in just about every ad you would find a woman dressed head to toe in red, white, and blue. It should also be said this was when designers started making pants to fit the female figure! PANTS BABYYYY! Working in factories to support the war effort, pants finally starting wiggling their way into our wardrobes.

Oh, how this build (or should I say BUILDS) gave me fits. There was a shirt-dress/jumper version of Luz, and this selected build of Luz in pants. Her color scheme is completely cobbled together from a million places, days of floating through items finally came together 8/22 after searching daily. The black and white stripe shirt, heels, and off the shoulder jacket were inspired from an actress of the time and all looks started with these things. Everything else came from looking through old 1940's fashion ads. I'll share some of my favorite ones down below.

Anyway, I needed SOMETHING for the model's face, since it seemed so pale compared to the bold colors of the outfit and the darkness of the background. You will see almost every ad in the 40's featured a bright red lip. Since that wasn't an option, I chose a blush that stood out compared to other blush and brought attention to her face, without contrasting her lipstick too much. No eyeshadow, just mascara. Also, while holding her bright red clutch almost entirely covers her belt, I kept it in the end because that was just trendy. Clutches and smaller handbags were an it thing. I felt like it benefited the picture, and there were enough of other elements of the design to "fill the plate", so to speak.

In the end I am so very happy with this fashion scene and model depiction, despite changing her design over and over. The motto for the time was something like "make do and mend", no coincidence there xd Seems like Luz put a little hope and sparkle in me, ha ha

Thanks for listening!
Faith

P.S. I tried dearly to shorten this, but I felt the history was also needed to fully understand my look and tried to only include a blurb. I hope the length of this piece isn't too exhausting! Thanks again!

Dawn of the Walkman
User Image

What was most important to me was to pick a period Tessa would be happy to represent. Gotta keep showing off that smile! From there, the first choice was the scenery. Either indoors, enjoying the jukebox, or out in the neighborhood. The neighborhood seemed more enticing. I originally wanted to go with the Case of Pietro car to lean a little older, but it would not layer with any other background elements. So we had to find another vehicle. That pushed us closer to looking like the next decade. Which wound up totally working out in the end, to my surprise! Though the Toyota Sprinter Trueno was actually first made in 1972!

Next up was the usual research - what clothing was in style? What makeup would someone with her skintone use in that period? Heck, I had to look up which handbags were popular in what years... (Source) I wanted her to be sitting or leaning on the car, so Glam & Jam's legs were a sure bet. Her tied top was very fashionable for the period, and a belt had to be carefully found to layer well with her legs while still leaving her midriff visible. I wanted to lean more heavily into African styled jewelry while I had the chance, but they looked a bit too heavy for her top. Her jewelry still remains bold and carries the right overall vibe.

Oro Belleza provides just a touch of bold lipstick without changing the overall shape of Sweet Talker too much. A ton of time was spent to keep her eyeshadow unique to previous entries, as well as remaining striking. A lot of the other Edgy Pride eyeshadows had a light skintone element visible on the near side of her eyes, which drove me crazy, but Expressive did not have that issue. Glamorous Eyeshadow Sweep adds a splash of red to tie back into her headband and belt.

Some pleasing graffiti was added to the brick wall, but this didn't seem eye catching enough. So we put on some music as well. With the musical notes, I wanted to add a boombox, but that distracted from her striking boots. But given all the other little pieces of the period we'd landed on, there was a portable device at our disposal, which sits so nicely loose in her lap.

Items:

Skintone E Body Dye, Natural Obsession, Sweet Talker, Malicieux Petite Lumiere (Windswept Hair)
White Tied Top, Psychedelic Submersible, Gold Ruby Lakshmi Earrings, Rajkumari Velvetine (Necklace), Enchanting Orchestra (Music Score), Admired Honey Waitress (bra) [very slight chest definiton], Interworld Starguy [walkman], Oro Belleza (makeup) [lipstick], Street Ignition (ready to race),
Beachwalk [lighting], Friend Zone Backdrop, Tutu Sweetheart (hand v.1), Sadly Meant 2Be (Headband), Glamorous Eyeshadow Sweep, Summertime Sunglasses (Offchrome), Lapine Danseuse Paradis (Mouth v.2) [blush], Justice (Belt), Beige Straw Pom Pom Bag, Magnetic Glam & Jam (Legs), Expressive Edgy Pride (Eyeshadow)

This Challenge was both slow to start and quick to finish. I have so many periods of fashion I love and I wanted to make sure I could really execute on the final piece.

My first thought was in fact the 1920's. Obviously I did land on this but it wasn't a straight shot. You see I initially had basically no luck finding era appropriate clothing. As the other designers and I have talked about in the chat sometimes the search feature in the avatar builder is just not cooperative. so despite trying a ton of different key words I could really only find a handful of items and since I didn't care for Goldie the flapper I decided to try another period.

My second period was Rococo. I adore French Rococo and luckily gaia was more cooperative. However I couldn't get over one detail. Ravens hair. Its just not Rococo and while I could style her in all the right clothing and accessories I just wasn't convinced she was really there. So third I tried Victorian. Which was the trick word I apparently needed to find what i needed for my 1920's look.

It turns out Victorian is one of Gaia's color schemes so when I searched it what did I find? Lots of lovely off black, ivory and platinum colored items. Most importantly her headdress which was my jumping off point. I had found the Rousing Lounge background during my first search so I grabbed that and immediately worked towards my vision. Adding everything from the red curtains to the amazing fur stole!

Raven is the star of this prohibition era club. She sits on a Chaise Lounge comfortable and elegant awaiting a drink between performances. The jazz playing through the establishment while patrons play games and drink up. Raven is not dressed in a flappers shorter beaded dress but a longer floor length dress shes here to sing not dance and this dress reflects that. Her hair is in a bob a bit longer than some girls are wearing their hair these days but still on trend. The accessories shes wearing remind one of Egypt which is coming into vogue as the Egyptian revival of the 20th century took off and combined with Art Deco following the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922.

The look came together in under and hour. The quickest I've had something come together yet and I honestly am most proud of this look so far. Its cohesive and immersive. she looks like a movie poster and I love how her features fit the style of the 20's so well!

Model: Serena // Title: All Night, Every Night
User Image
Description: 1950s, Black people were only allowed to skate at roller rinks one night a week; often referred to as "Black Night" or "Soul Night".

1960s, during the civil rights movement roller skating became a popular pastime for black people as a way to express themselves and escape discrimination. In 1963, Ledger Smith, a semi-pro black skater, skated 685 miles to attend Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech.

1970s, Bill Butler is credited with popularizing roller dancing. Black roller skaters also began developing their own style of skating, known as "style" roller skating, which incorporated a variety of movements, strides, and steps, and roller-skating became synonymous with disco.

Today, Black skaters have continued to work to maintain their community and influence modern roller skating. They have created spaces to build community, raise awareness about social issues, and have fun. Some say that black Americans are responsible for keeping roller skating alive and for the emergence of many different skating styles.

Designer's Note: Most of this description is based on research because I felt that was the most impactful way to get this era across.

Challenge #3
Period.
Feedback

Winner: Detrimentum — Eryn
• The feedback on your entry was praised for its execution and ambiance.
The use of the filter to create an "old-timey photo" look was appreciated,
and the outfit is patriotic, powerful, and effective.
• Some judges expressed wanting to see the outfit without the filter,
as well as some minor critiques about posing and small details in the hair,
but overall, your entry is well-received.

Winner: BloodAngel95 — Amira
• The judges praise you for your outfit's Victorian authenticity, the use of
period-appropriate props, and Amira's overall look. Everyone admired
your entry for this challenge.
• There have been some criticisms about Amira's slightly discolored arm, the
distracting green color of the underskirt, and the slight crowding of the
background. Just some minor points for improvement is all.

Serena-of-Limonium — Raven
• The judges all liked the vibe you were going for with this look, and we thought
it was a good direction to go in with Raven. Things are especially well balanced
when it comes to her hair, embracing it and not hiding it around.
• The details in this were really what kept you from winning. The skirt layers
in an odd way, and being so white it just draws the eye in a way the judges
felt jarring.

the purple mew — Eunwoo
• There was no doubt about your time period you were going for, and Rockabilly
was a flattering choice for Eunwoo. The post and background really helped sell
the whole entry!
• The blush was way too strong, and the judges over all really didn't like the wink.
While this look also easily read Rockabilly, a few of the details felt a little modern,
and the red heels in particular stood out.

Serafiella — Tessa
• Over all the judges really liked your make up choice and the over all vibe of
this look! There is a difference in scale in some things between Tessa and the
background, but it really works here.
• The judges felt like there were a few too many elements. One of two things
could have been removed in the outfit, something could have been swapped
in the background to kind of polish things off. It feels like a lot of ideas stitched
together rather than an actual cohesive thing.

Princess Warfare — Brandie
• The judges all want to attend the Sinner's Ball, and want our own corsets that
are so detailed and immaculate, the construction of that corset really blew us away.
• The finishing touches just fell a little flat. Could have felt more like a ball. The purple
on the table in the back also stands out as the only purple, and it is so bold. If Brandie
had been in a different color the purple wouldn't stand out so harshly, or if the table
came in a different color.

FaithEmblem — Luz
• You did a good job of matching the inspiration pictures, and it was a fashionable look
that all the judges were perfectly fine with. Make up looks great!
• We were just fine with this look. No one was blown away, no one was offended, it was
just a fine look. The background didn't connect for any of the judges, and while the outfit
is fine, it is just fine. We want to see more creativity, push yourself with construction as
well as inspiration, and really wow us.

Kr-E — Cheska
• The Ancient Egyptian theme had the judges so excited! We were thrilled to
see someone embrace something like this, and it was good for Cheska. The
colors chosen were particularly flattering for her.
• As happy as we were with the inspiration, the execution just didn't come
together. A lot of things don't quite layer right, the outfit feels disjointed and
like there's pieces missing. Adding to the disjointed feel is the difference in
lighting between Cheska and the background.

excites — Serena
• The judges are so happy that you truly embraced Serena and did the research to
really make this feel genuine to her and her heritage. It was a fun thing to aim for
as well, and it is a good look.
• It's a good look...but that's it. The judges were missing some of the fun of the
roller disco! We also were not loving the description, sadly. It ended up doing
more harm than good. We expect more and can't wait to see what you do next.

Haji Demon — Raine
• This is a truly great outfit, it's perfect for the era you were aiming for and is so flattering
on Raine! The story reads through the outfit and background, and that is always the goal.
• Many of the judges were scared by the cow, particularly because of how the leaves
covered some of the face. Having one or the other instead of both would have improved
things. The other big problem are the scars on the face. None of the judges felt like they
were needed, or well enough explained.

"Her sparkle is more than Magic"

Hey everybody C: thanks for having me again

I had a lot of fun with this challenge. As you guys probably predicted, I didn't have a lot of orange in my repertoire, so I went and hunted down a list of oranges to pick my favorite and go from there. The color orange I chose to follow was monarch... so the thought pattern went like this monarch > which led to crowns > jewelry/gold/wealth.

Since I wanted her look to have a lot of jewelry, I decided to build around her headpiece. It has these chains dripping down her face, so I got some companion chains to flow down her legs too. Picked out a crown that matched 1 for 1. Next went for a bustle/leg mod with lots of skin, same for the arms, to sort of break up colors and keep it from becoming a blob. Added a nice poppy eyeshadow to keep the ratio of orange/skin.

The final touches were the background, glitter, and wings. I wanted something to elevate the look, something a bit flashy. It's something otherworldy without overcrowding. I didn't have any story going on here-- from start to finish I was like "would I stop to look at this in a magazine? If this ad was selling any part of her outfit, would I want to buy it?"

Side note: I choose the model's skin to break up the orange instead of an additional color on purpose, because Luz's skintone just happened to look super dreamy with this color palette (in my opinion)

So excited to hear your thoughts,
Faith

The walk of Sun
User Image

Description

As the day is past, the Sun enters the land of twilight. She enjoyed her long walk through the lush summer sky, but she is tired now and needs to lay in the gentle, quiet bed and shed her weariness, for tomorrow is another long walk of nourishing the life on earth, pulling the plants towards her, stirring the winds and driving the darkness away

I wasnt really sure what I want to go for in this. First I wanted to go for kitsune theme, then I decided for fairy, in the end I mixed elements of both to create an entirely different fae kind. I imagined sky as a field for whose residents Earth is up and sky is down. If stars are the fairies that live up there, then Sun would be the most important fairy there for sure. I went for that concept. So even if the environment is dark overall, she remains bright, the light glows through her and scatters around her in form of flowers (keeping in with the sky is a field theme). Night is said to be more of realm of dreams and day that of reality and twilight is the door between that. Here, as everything moves towards her, it seems like she is not only the center of this world, but walking through a portal

With some other elements, I mostly used 2 of my fav orange themes in this- Monarch and creamsicle . I really liked how her dark hair and dress meets up and then melts into orange again. I made it so that the closer we are to her main body, the crisper the colors and shapes are, the further we move from her, the colors grow lighter and form dissolves into each other. I added the veil and a glow behind her to enhance that effect. Plus as personification of Sun, she has to wear more flowy and spread out clothing.
I really liked how eyes worked out. She has nice, light brown eyes, but with all the orange around her and dark eye makeup, they seem to glow too

Challenge #4: Orange is the New Black.

Description: Designers, Orange is the New Black might be a hit show
but we judges certainly feel like that isn't the truth when it comes to the rules
of fashion. Do you also hate orange? Do you agree it's the most stressful of
colors to work with? We judges are challenging you to push past those
misgivings and give us a look that embraces orange! It must primarily consist
of orange, but beyond that, the only limits are the ones you give yourselves.
Make us believe that orange truly is the new black!

My thoughts

When I think about orange, fire is the first thing that comes to mind. Maybe that's due to my Aries Moon and Leo Rising... BUT -- the second thing I associate this color with is autumn; the changing of the leaves, the oversized sweaters... *sigh* I just want to NOT sweat my dumper off before 11am!
Is that so much to ask? I'm tired of having a sweat mustache emotion_donotwant

The color palette is giving fall/thanksgiving/leaves, but Brandie's outfit is more of a summer-ish vibe with the flowing dress and bustle, because i wanted to show the versatility of the color itself. It can be difficult to use such a bold color at times, because i had to make sure it didn’t clash with any other colors/components.

The main visual force behind this design is mostly thanks to Yuhi Sakana Matsuri's background cutter. I really felt the plum and maroon lend themselves to the shades of orange I have layered into a pretty homogenous design, methinks! emotion_yatta Seriously, though, if it weren't for the impeccable colors, I'd have NO direction/decision-making power through all of this. It kept me grounded, and prevented me from getting "excited", aka, prevented my "too much" gene from kicking in emotion_dealwithit

I took the judges' feedback from last week and I wanted to show more detail (maintaining the balance between simplicity and ~*~razzle dazzle*~*~ was a little challenging!)
Y'all were totally right about the details falling flat on my last entry, though.

I incorporated the color palette from the aforementioned item/bg cutter to ensure that the design was not TOO detailed that it made the foreground look like mush, but also that could match with the rest of the colors.

I really hope you enjoy this even HALF as much as I enjoyed seeing this design come to fruition. One of my favorite aspects is the asymmetrical nature of the cutter, PLUS the flowers at the upper left corner help balance the overall composition. Isn't that silly? An asymmetrical background element BALANCES things. Ugh, I'm feeling so poetic. emotion_kirakira /sarcasm

I also wanted to add some circles to coincide with the primary shape, and then I layered some other backgrounds/elements (sparkles are REQUIRED by law) to once again reference the moon shape within said primary shape/item. The 'Rays' item that adds the rays of light right under that moon shape in the background treat me SO RIGHT!

Also, the layering of the skirts was definitely keeping me up past my bedtime a couple nights. But that's okay, it was all worth it in the end. I had to use a tiddy-window-cutter because the top portion of whatever dresses i had equipped were not vibing with the rest of it. Plus, you gotta let em breathe, ykwim?

To conclude my ramblings, I would just like to say that orange is SORELY UNDERRATED as a color! It can be a hot summer's day, or a crisp autumn morning, or even a saucy lil sunset! It's basically the color red's cooler cousin who drives a convertible and wears boat shoes year-round and does day trading full-time.

✧ Challenge: #4 - Orange is the New Black
✧ Outift Title: Warm Dreams
✧ Description:

As usual, it took me quite a bit of fiddling, and trying items, before I set on what I wanted to do. As such, I found out that Gaia seriously needs more orange items, haha.

Anyway, theme-wise I pondered what would be a fun aesthetic to mimic. Suddenly I thought, what if I dressed Eryn like a colour-coded character? As such, here's Eryn dressed up as a typical Magical Girl from an anime!

Eryn's wearing a cute short dress with white ruffles over which she has a long, orange overdress. She has a cute belt with flower shapes on her waist, chosen to match her flower hairpin. On her back, she has a small white bow. Her legs are covered by semi-transparent stockings, and she's wearing shoes with pretty, orange clasps. Eryn has sheer, puffy sleeves that look like they're made of similar material as her overdress, and a pair of white gloves. As a finishing touch, she has an orange headband on her head.

For her makeup, she's of course all blushy, but I also gave her some cute orange sparkles on her cheeks.

In Eryn's hand, she's holding a wand - a staple of any magical girl! To add to the overall magical aura, I've chosen some cute sparkly effects, butterflies meant to look like she's casting some sort of spell and a darker orange background, so viewer's eyes automatically focus on Eryn.

Cheska the Illusionist takes a moment to spread her soft orange glow across the dark city as night falls.
Her magic glowing butterflies take flight into the night and light street lamps as she goes.
She enjoys giving back to the people of the town who appreciate her gift.

Working with Cheska for this one took some time. I went in blind, with no clue what the idea or inspiration would be.
Countless orange items later the look came very organically. An Illusionist, I wants the orange to feel like it was stepping out of black, like a transformation once the inspiration stuck.
Another challenge was the setting, it was too hard to get it right and played with many options.
I definitely knew I wanted it to contrast the orange. I was not sure if it should be her entertaining crowds with her beautiful creations or simply presenting for a court. Neither felt right.
It wasn't until this background sparked the perfect story for her illusion magic to really be appreciated as not just a show, but something people look forward to.
In turn, it's a helping hand. Cheska has a look I am inspired is a sweet and kind demeanor. So this only felt right.

As far as using orange goes, I'd say in fashion it is a love-it-or-hate-it color. I personally can't say I hate it as it's found in many beautiful things. Stones, fire, flowers, storms, many gorgeous things full or energy.
I feel it should be embraced, especially with the right colors, and different shades for different skin tones when we speak of fashion.
Fun fact, scientifically the color orange was stated to be the first color to exist. An illuminating orange glow. Fitting, no?

I hope you enjoy Cheska in this look and hope you find your own inspirations with orange!

I wanted to pick an occasion which normally calls for black, and eventually settled into the bold styles of the New Orleans funeral scene. I had the distinct pleasure to witness a white-and-pink themed procession once. Sun umbrellas often feature as an accessory, so we tried to find the one that would be the least distracting to keep the focus on her. The white gloves also add a funerary touch.

Having done bold eyeshadow for a few runs now, we went with a milder orange blush, including on her nose, and an eyebrow trim that wouldn't change her looks too much.

Tessa is once again rocking a multi-piece dress, this time a combination of Maiden of the Grove, Le Secret de Incendie, Radiant Fawn arms, and Adamant vault to pull off a cohesive silhouette while still involving multiple variants of orange. Other parts of her outfit are also multi-piece, with fluffy and feathery headband, and a floral ruff.

Consort Selene stockings add a pop of color to the legs, while still trying to keep the overall look flamboyant but modest to enjoy a celebration of life.

Items:

Skintone E Body Dye, Natural Obsession, Sweet Talker, Malicieux Petite Lumiere (Windswept Hair)
Adamant Vault (antique diamond belt), Josie's Journey (flowers), Brow Basics (Shaped brow), Lucid Dollhouse Demon (bow), Moga Heavenly Greens Cemetery (Spirits), Le Secret de Incendie (Corset), Spring Radiant Fawn (arms), Maiden of the Grove (Tantalizing Dress), Across Vibrant Blush (Pumpkin), Evening Consort Selene (Legs E), Fairytale Princess Tarta (Earrings), I am Simply Glorious, The Forsaken's Haunting (Gate), The Fairytale Haunting (Roses), Foggy Sea Stone Walk (Foggy), Everybody Nose (Skintone E)
