Raeka Everett-Maris Status: Weak, Alive. Location: In the arms of Rem, in the back of a theater.
____________________________________________________
To Raeka the man, there was nothing. Silence. Even the cold was gone. The memories of his loved ones drifted away until there was not even consciousness.
The quiet drifted for an eternity, before a will reached out. A impulse. A current of power that rode through like a river, washing Raeka away in the completeness of oblivion.
To Raeka the body, his eyes shifted. They were at first, the eyes of a dead man. His third eye melted away and his focused moved to Rem and Nyale. To the Sorcerer their relation to him was of no real matter, at least not beyond a small impulse of the remaining spark of personality that was left drifting in the body.
Ny's cura spell took hold. The hole in his abdomen closing further. His wounds were nearly gone and his body was almost whole again. The man's unconscious form snapped out with it's hand, the dull eyes opening wide as it focused on Rem and his hand covered one of her hands holding him. His grip like a claw as it fell upon her. It was a bestial motion, instinctual.
"I... can... not... die... yet..."
Strands of mana burst from Raeka's body, his innate magic leaving him in spades and his hand gripped on Rem's like a iron vice. Holding her in place as his power abandoned him and surged into her. Eldritch tendrils of darkness whipping around the room, surging wind and whipping materials around the room before it plunged into Rem. The second time she experienced an Succession.
Nyale would recognize this. Salem had described it once, understanding it would come to all Sorceress' unless one became absolute, which had had no intention of letting happen. 'Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec' Old Centran. The Succession of Witches.
Once the light show ended, the sorcerer's son's hand fell back to the ground, and color began to return to his eyes. He saw more blurs than forms, a hazy unfocused world greeting the return of consciousness. "..m...ai..." He wheezed, "...ny..?" The words barely escaped his blue lips, his skin turned clammy and he was still so cold. The touch of his skin had a icy touch. It seemed Shock was setting in. The SeeD amongst them would most likely recognize that, a typical part of their combat training.
"...hey..." He said towards what he thought was Mai, his fingers twitching as he tried to move his hand, but there was no strength left in him for even that. ____________________________________________________

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Status: This can’t be happening
Rem’s heartbeat pounded in her ears! She could feel the heat draining out of Raeka! In the midst of the scramble to get into cover and/or reach the bleeding man, she’d ended up holding him in her arms, opposite Mai. No, no, no, no…!
She was pulled back by Kalen checking her over. The blood would stain her gown, but it wasn’t hers. Her eyes- just like their dad’s- were huge and vulnerable looking into his. His quick-thinking put her in gear. Call mom! Right! Emergency!
She’d come unarmed, but she could draw her phone. She flicked to a contact labeled Mom (Emergency) and dialed with one hand while the other held Raeka off the floor.
Brrrrr- - -
<”What is it, Rem?”>
”Mom- there’s a shooter at the arena! Sound the alarm-!”
Raeka’s hand snatched hers! The phone fell to the floor, and Rem leaned over Raeka in alarm! Magic erupted from him, surging over her! But…not a spell? She gasped as ribbons of power surged through her, piercing her like the first breaths of winter morning!
She knelt there, frozen, as his limp hand slid out of hers. Rem stared at him, as uncomprehending as he was of her.

┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━═✥═━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Yukiko processed what Nyale had said, and realizing her mistake, attempted to cover up her embarrassment with a laugh and a nod from her head. "O-Oh Ahaha! Of course!! I would gl-" In the middle of her conversation, that sniper shot rang out, and then the music stopped, and then the loud screaming for Raeka. It was all escalating so fast that sh barely had time to process Nyale taking off towards her cousin. She looked acround at her position, seeing if she could spot the sniper from the direction she heard the gunfire from. It managed to hit Raeka backstage, so that meant that it only had one opening to take a shot from. Her eyes drifted over to the rooftop across from her, raising the scope of her LMG as she aimed at the building across from her, resting the gun on the railing. "What is up with people causing international incidents! First mom and now this? I have a bad feeling its only getting worse." She thought to herself as she attempted to look for signs of the sniper.
Unfortunately, she wouldn't find a single thing. But her mind remained on Nyale and her response before she left. The way she fumbled those words at the end... Did Nyale realize what she was implying about dinner? That thought rushed into her mind and her face turned beat red, clenching the handle of the gun tighter and letting out a squeak. She was absolutely going to hate herself for even saying such a thing. She just prayed that Nyale wasn't going to feel awkward talking to her again. "Stupid! You shouldn't have said anything but yes!" She berrated herself for such a thing, wishing she could take it back and say it differently. But there was no magic for such a thing... right?
=============
Mai was entirely left confused by the situation, barely having noticed the glaring THIRD EYE! on her man's head. What was up with the aggression before, and what was up with him getting shot? As far as she recalled Raeka never did any war crimes, she would know! So why?! Was it political? Well of course it was, but for what purpose? Would the world feel bad for a Galbadian getting critically wounded? There were so many thoughts that went through her mind, and seeing him the way he was brought back the pain she went through when she was hospitalized. She couldn't hide her tears, falling from her good eye. But before she could even say anything to him, his magic transfer occurred and that caused Mai to stumble back as the magical effects took place. Once he had finished, Mai was left in a strange state of uncertainty, looking down at Raeka with more questions than she ever expected to have. "What the ******** is going on here?" Mai asked crudely, trying to get some semblance of anything here.
==== Etamara meanwhile was still out on stage, and because her performance was interrupted, the screams backstage could be heard, causing the sorceress to shift her attention back behind her. She glared, in due part because someone interrupted her performance for some shot at someone behind her, and another reason was she was a bit afraid to move back there. As it sounded to her, Raeka had been shot, which meant that someone could have been shooting at Galbadians for the hell of it. So, she decided to do what she did best.
"I am sorry for the interruption everony! There seems to be an incident going on backstage, but please do not panic! Staff will be on their way to deal with the situation. For the time being we ask that you all calmly make your way out through emergency exits, and to safety from the stadium at this time."

No no no no...
They were losing him. Ny could see it as his third eye faded away, and the light seemed to leave his eyes. She couldn't save him. How could everything have gone so wrong so quickly...??
She felt despair threaten to swallow her whole.
But then his eyes moved and focused on her and Rem...for a moment she felt relief, until she realised there was still no life in his gaze. His eyes were the blank dead eyes of a corpse. With creeping dread, Ny had the sense it wasn't her cousin looking back at her. Her magic was mending his wound, but perhaps he had already gone...? All hell broke loose as he suddenly grabbed Rem and mana exploded from her cousin's body, surging from him to into the other girl.
Ny raised her arms instinctively to shield herself from the whipping tendrils of darkness and winds that consumed the dressing room. Anything not nailed down flew around in the chaos, leaving the room looking like a small tornado had hit it. Clothes, chairs, make up containers, props were scattered everywhere. A mirror shattered, sending shards of glass flying and leaving a bloody cut across Ny's cheek, red streaks running down and dripping onto her clothes.
It took the Sorceress just a moment to understand what was happening, and her face went white with horror.
"I-I think it's the Succession! Rem, his powers are transferring to you!" Ny remembered learning this from her uncle long ago. Death, or near death, could cause a Sorcerer's powers to leave them. She never expected she would see it happen so soon, to Rae of all people. He was so young... Judging by Rem's frozen form, the girl might be in too much shock to comprehend Ny's explanation.
When the chaos subsided, Ny noticed Rae start to stir and the colour returning to his eyes. She let out a shaky breath, relief flooding through her.
"Oh thank God..." The girl knelt beside Rae, pressing a hand to his forehead. He was still icy cold, but he was alive.
"He's going into shock...Kal, please can you grab that chair over there and elevate his legs?" She pointed at her friend to get his attention, SeeD training taking hold. "I...I need to get him warm..." Ny held her hands over Rae's chest and he was enveloped in a pure white glow as she manipulated her light magic to heat him up. Rae would feel it concentrating through his whole body, chasing away the cold.
"Hey Raeka, we're here, you're gonna be okay. Just stay awake for us please" Ny urged him, trying to keep her voice soothing. Internally, she wanted to scream and cry, but that wouldn't help her cousin. It didn't seem like he was going to stay conscious, but at least he was alive. "Kalen, please can you get my phone from my pocket and call my uncle? Tell him to get here now..."
Hopefully this would be enough to stave off the shock and stabalise Rae, until he could be taken to hospital.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Kiss me good-bye, love's memory Follow your heart and find your destiny Won't shed a tear, for love's mortality For you put the dream in my reality Deadlock
The chamber in his revolver clicked shut. Blue eyes peaked out of the room with a calculated view, not wanting to expose himself if the sniper was still trying to take potshots at them. The sound was audible when it had shot through Raeka's form, so the assassin had to be nearer than they thought. Hopefully with mom on the case, Kalen hearing Rem speak to her from behind, it would be much easier to figure out what EXACTLY the hell was going on.
Kalen looked back into the room, a shaky exhale consuming him as he looked onward at Mai and Rem trying their best to take care of the downed Sorcerer. Part of him was shook, but the rest of him would not allow it to show even as he looked at his sister again, still not sure if she was unhurt or not. Her eyes as he had checked her over were just like when they were kids. A vision of the swamp that they had both been in as a small marlboro had attacked them. Kalen really couldn't remember much, taking a strike that had been aimed for his sister and knocking him out cold. All that could be recalled from memory was stirring to finding her shaken, crying, the Marlboro nowhere to be seen. Fear and something else had been on her face that day, he couldn't figure it out even as he had carried her home, a few new scars on him form for good measure.
Nyale came in with a hurry as he collected himself, squeezing the handle of his gun as she went to work. Both Mai and he were definitely out of the loop as a strange ethereal voice came from Raeka and a whole god damn magic show occurred, Kalen remaining against the wall as everything flew around like a damn tornado. Magic...Sorcerers and Sorceress. Heine's gifted. Kalen heard the old tales in the villages that he had passed through, memories again taking him over as Nyale explained the concept of succession to Rem and Mai. His eyes looked towards Nyale's cheek at the cut that had appeared amid the chaos, pulling out a handkerchief from his pocket and crouching next to her with the requested chair, elevating Raeka's legs and nodding for Mai to hold them while he gently pressed the cloth in his other hand to Nyale's cheek. His revolver was returned to its holster as he attended her silently, observing.
Using the non handkerchief hand, he grabbed Nyale's phone from the depths of her pocket and flicked it on with a single hand, calling Salem.
"Raeka's been shot. We're in the auditorium, dressing room four. He's stable but Nyale needs you here ASAP."
The entire situation was out of his hands, and he was out of his element. A sorcerer or sorceress he was not. It reminded him of when Nyale showed her wings to him when they were kids, the appendages amazing the young boy. "Are you an angel?" He had asked, remembering the feeling of wonder, "That must mean you're special! I wish I was as cool as you, Nyale!" Nothing felt cool about it at the moment. Sorcereress' and their business was a foreign entity to Kalen, but he couldn't help but marvel at their abilities. They were more powerful than regular old humans, their capabilities transcending what others could dream of. Salem had been a clear example of that as he had rid Eden City of Kaijuu.
But as it could be seen here, even Sorceress' were susceptible to the plights of humanity. They were still human, after all. Pulling away the handkerchief, he remained on the phone listening to whatever Salem had to say before hanging up, once again checked on Rem by making eye contact to make sure that she was okay. Cosmic Magic ShooterPerhaps he was still fuming, leaning over the barside whilst he kept getting another drink. This one would be number three, trying his best to try and substantiate or stave off the feelings that had suddenly come over him. Right now it really didn't matter which one won at this point. Eren's frame had almost not moved at all, rather stuck in his frame of sulking while he thought and continued to look over his attire. Maybe I can afford a new fit? Perhaps he could, but he had to continue paying off the debts his parents had left behind. Deadlines were due, and he would never get the things he was owed back if he got nice clothes just to try and appease a woman that he had high hopes and fantasies of seeing himself with. "If it weren't for that..." A fuzzyness shot over his head, one hand with his drink dropping to the bar top as his other grasped the side of his head, an almost whining ringing through his head as the thought and memory of the errant kiss fazed in and out. The kiss? What kiss? Silver and Little Red had just been...they'd just been performing right? Dropping both hands to the bar top, he squeezed his eyes shut and grit his teeth. <********' stahp it. Whatever this feeling was, Eren was already over it until as quickly as it had come, it vanished. Why the ******** was he at the bar? He was watching Rem's performance and not supposed to be drinking. Now here he stood with a slight buzz, shaking at it while glancing around to see if anyone else was feeling as weird as he had been. What the hell? All he could recall vividly was that the performance had been stellar and perhaps congratulations were in order? The same feelings he had been feeling were still there. Eren realized he was probably shooting way out of his league in terms of stature and....well...everything else, but he was already friendly so why would it hurt to continue being so? "s**t, maybe I shul get some flowers er something." He muttered, Golem glowing green in the back of his head in agreement, "Maybe roses or perhaps a chrys....chrys....chrysanthemuuuu" Right as he was about to try and pronounce the long winded flower name properly a gunshot rang out and everyone dropped, Eren in a squat as screams began to fill the area. People started running, screaming, and bedlam started to break loose while UNITA and SeeD tried to calm the situation. Eren looked around frenetically, eyes looking to the rooftops as others were screaming about someone back stage being shot. Rem. His phone was in his hand immediately, trying to call her but getting a voice mail. Oh naw... Perhaps she was just taking cover? Part of him didn't know why he was so worried over a woman he had only casually flirted and teased with, but the rest of him opened his messages and texted her immediately as he started walking towards the backstage. He knew he wouldn't be allowed back there, but it wouldn't hurt to try. A text reached Rem's phone: "“Where r u? R u ok? Plz txt if ok” The text was as broken as his speech. <”Rem?! Rem, answer me!”>
Nona’s voice was lost in the chaos.
—
Crack!
The freshly-budded malboro’s tentacle hurled Kalen into a willow, the wound oozing a green-black putrescence as the poison seeped into his body! Rem crawled backward, but the tangle of mangrove plants was too much. Everything hurt, her vision swam from the vile aura of the monster closing in! She couldn’t-!
Her skin began to burn. Swamp water churned and smoked as raw heat radiated from her. An iridescent light shone on her skin, growing brighter, brighter, burning from some fuel she had never known lay inside.
—
Rem had her back to the entry wall. She stared at her empty, shaking hands.
’-Succession!-’
-ugly, sharp notes sinking into her music like railroad spikes-
Red on her dress
-small arms disadvantageous. Remain in cover while outside forces coordinate. If cover is compromised-
Raeka’s bloodless face
Her heart fluttered in her chest! Her lungs strained against her ribs! She looked up, away, but she still couldn’t slow down her breathing! She caught Kalen’s look.
Diagnosis: Anxiety attack
Tears flooded Rem’s eyes. She buried her face in her palms, struggling to make herself breathe.

Salem Everett Status: Papa Bear. Location: Backstage --> Hospital ____________________________________________________ If Kalen had been paying close enough attention before the phone was answered, he could hear the ring tone as The Sorcerer approached. The father was slowing his pace. He could feel his heart racing in fear, adrenaline was making his hands twitchy and he doesn't want to response in the wrong way to the wrong person. As he turned the corner and saw the group, his fists clenched tight but he had to focus. Keep it together. You can let it out after you know they're safe.
"Good job, Nyale. Keep focused, but I'm going to move you." His nose crinkled as he focused on Floataga. Little purple wings would hit Mai, Rae, Rem, Ny, Kalen, and of course himself. That was all he said as he began to manipulate them, moving them out of the theater with alarming speed. However they each couldn't feel the movement, it was as if they were still totally still. Probably something to do with something, something magic.
The group moved through the city, deftly maneuvering through the cities buildings, and it seemed like no more than a few moments before they arrived at a hospital. Salem was familiar with this city, and he knew this for that about some of them, and for what he understood, he went to the best one for this sort of thing. Bringing them through emergency room doors, whereupon his landing he looked at a receptionist and simply told them to get a room, immediately, and that one of them had suffered a rifle wound.
Those looking close enough could see the woman want to ask a question, demand a explanations but her behavior changed on a dime to a simple smile and acquiescence. "Yes, sir. This way." This oddity in behavior wasn't a one off moment. Salem passed people who instantly changed what they were doing to prepare stuff for Raeka. A rolling bed, from which the crew took Raeka from the floataga spell at Salem's allowance, and began to roll him to a room immediately.
Otherwise, Salem telekinetically parted anyone in his way who wasn't helping his son like a sea, carrying the rest of the children into a waiting room that conveniently emptied out as he plopped each one of the children in a seat. Rem, Ny, Kalen and Mai. He looked to the side for a moment as he wanted to check on his child, but he had to trust the doctors for that. For now. "Nyale, call your mother and let her know where we are. Then call Nona and do the same." His attention turned to Kalen, he didn't say anything, just motioned to Rem who was clearly not okay.
Finally he focused on Mai. She had been with Rae for a while now, and he had met her often enough to have a good judge of who she is. Sorrow was not likely her first reaction. He expected wrath and a call to action. But she was young, confused, and would most likely seek direction. She liked her soldier role. "Zeigmus, sitrep. I want to know what happened to my son and how." ____________________________________________________

He heard voice. Cousin. Friends. Mai. "Stay... awake..?" He wanted to turn his head and look, and there was a bit of movement, but not enough for him to really look around. "But... I'm... really tired..." His face scrunched a little as a few of Rem's teardrops splattered on his face. He stirred again at Mai's voice. "...something...happened?" There was little else he could do, his strength was failing as his eyes fluttered. Consciousness switching between on and off like a strobe light.
At least it wasn't as cold. ____________________________________________________

┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━═✥═━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓ Mai was left in a state of shock seeing Raeka like that, and though she would have gotten closer to him, Salem had arrived and effectively taken them out of the stadium entirely faster than she could truly process the situation. By the time they had gotten to their new destination, Mai was clearly not in her headspace, taking a second to register that Salem had said something to her. Snapping herself out of her own head, she stood at attention, more so to put herself in a calmer mood, as she debriefed Salem on her account of the events that took place. "I don't have much information I can offer, it all happened so fast, Sir, but I will do my best. I arrived in the audience stands just prior to Rem's performance, and...." She paused for a moment, her head feeling that confused fuzziness again. "I.... saw.... Raeka and Rem... dancing..." She had a real hard time with that part. "Then... I was... mad? But... I don't remember why? I was mad enough to leave, I know that. In my confusion, after taking a smoke break, I made my way over to the backstage to see Raeka. "
She then glanced back down at him, her eye looking a bit sad to see him in such a state. So much so that she had to stop herself from having her lip quiver, biting her bottom lip for a second before continuing with a deep breath. "I arrived at the backstage just in time to see Raeka pinning Rem up against the wall with his forearm. He was angry, and also... he had... a third eye on his head." She didn't think about it immediately, not having time to ask about it before Raeka was shot. "I attempted to go and de-escalate the situation but, before I could even make a few steps forward towards him, he was shot in the back. I think... it was sniper fire from a rooftop... I don't know... I...Nyale said something about a Succession? Some tendril magic shot out and went into Rem." She really hated seeing the image of Raeka getting shot, and it made speaking difficult any further. "Sorry Sir. That's all I know."
==========================================
Yukiko had remained posiitioned on the roof of the Concert, aiming down the sights of the LMG, communicating with Unita Police over where she heard the gunfire. There was no way she would be able to identify the sniper, and while she did her best to provide cover for anyone, it hardly mattered much anymore. What had been done, was already dealt with, and any form of punishment to the culprit(s).
=====================
Etamara was left at the center of the stage, her eyes glaring as she watched Salem take off with everyone backstage. Her performance had been ruined! She growled out of annoyance and shook her head, huffing and trying to get herself back together. "Stupid assassins! Why did you have to ruin my big debut!" She said, livid as she watched the crowd flee the audience stands and eventually vacate the area. Etamara, for her part, sighed as she walked off stage. "Mark my words, one day I will have that spotlight."

Ny felt Kalen gently press the handkerchief to her cheek and cast him a grateful look, wanting to smile but trying not to aggravate the cut. He was always looking out for her with little things like that. She was also glad that he did exactly as she requested, though it seemed that there was no need to even call Salem as the man's timely appearance proved.
She barely had time to nod in agreement before they were being magically moved, even if it didn't feel like it. In just a few moments Ny found herself inside a hospital, watching with astonishment as the staff conceded to Salem's will with a placid, almost robotic acquiescence. She recognised it as yet another chilling demonstration of her uncle's incredible power, and it made her shiver. Raeka was soon wheeled away and Ny watched him go until he was out of sight, trying to quell the knot of worry in her stomach for her cousin. He'll be okay now... She tried to convince herself.
"Of course, uncle..." She gave a nod at Salem's instructions and turned away. "I'm sorry..."
I wasn't strong enough...I should've stopped this...
As she made for the exit to the waiting room Ny cast a last regretful glance at Rem, who clearly was not coping well. She wanted desperately to go and comfort the girl but ultimately figured it would be best to leave that to Kalen. She's a sorceress now. Her life is about to get a whole lot more complicated Ny thought, knowing that Rem would have a difficult path ahead. It still didn't feel quite real. If there was time later when Rem was calmer, she would see if the girl wanted to talk.
Time to go
Ny didn't want Kalen to worry about her so as she walked past him towards the door she reached out and gave his hand a squeeze, offering him a small smile as if to say I'm fine, look after your sis.
The snowy-haired sorceress finally slipped out of the door, just as she caught one last word from Salem: a certain name that jolted her, and caused her to remember the magical bullet residue and the unmistakable dark aura from the rooftop. She did this, I know it...I'll kill her for this... The thought was ice in her veins, and Ny took a deep breath to steady the rage that threatened to overcome her, instead pulling out her phone for now. Retribution would have to wait.
"Hello mother...don't panic but there's been an incident and...um...Raeka was shot. I think he's going to be okay but you should probably get here for Salem. We're at the hospital. Yeah I'm...fine...I've got to go though...see you later..." Ny dialled the next number as she meandered down the hallway.
One down. One to go. This one might be awkward. Nona's number had sat in her phone for a long time, never used before but there only for emergencies. Ny had not had many interactions with Nona over her life, and quite frankly she was a little apprehensive of her. She had only ever heard good things from Kalen about his adopted mom, yet her impression had always been that Nona wanted very little to do with the Laytos family, or any sorcerers. It had become less uneasy over the years, however. She didn't think Nona looked on her with complete indifference these days. At least, she hoped so.
"Hello, Ms President? It's, um, Nyale Laytos. I'm calling to tell you that Rem is at the hospital, she...she needs you. My cousin Raeka was shot"
How to explain? Ny didn't think it was her place to tell Nona that her daughter now had sorceress powers, courtesy of Rae. Maybe Rem wouldn't even want her mom to know...? She sighed at how messy this was turning out.
"Physically Rem is fine I think but....it's complicated, and she's very distressed, so please come here if you can - as soon as possible"

Salem entering the room allowed for Kalen to hang up the phone, putting the device back in Nyale's pocket before grasping Rem's as it had fallen, their mother demanding answers over the phone. The only prompt response he could do was look upward and catch Rem's eyes looking at him, panic at the news that she had absorbed a power that she did not want in her eyes amid the entire fiasco that was unfolding around them. Magic... All of this starting due to one bullet, forcing Kalen to close Rem's phone despite Nona still asking for answers. The absolute fear, panic, and dread on his sister's face was clear to him, knowing exactly that she had been blessed, or cursed depending on who you ask, with something she had not wanted or dreamed of having. Their mother's affection, lack thereof rather, for sorcereress, sorcerers, and any ilk comparable was very well known in the family. Part of him knew that even his friendship with Nyale always made the President raise an eyebrow, but Kalen always put in a good word for Nyale and his godmother Lisanna.
Kalen's face gently nodded at Rem, easing her worries as he felt her phone vibrate a few more times. Probably Nona trying to follow up at being hung up on, but he would take the heat for that if need be. She tended to take it easy on him if he had a valid excuse, and lord knows he could think of a plethora of excuses for as to why noone was answering right now. Even as Salem essentially warped them to the hospital, his eyes never moved from observing Rem. Her breathing, body movements. That girl was freaking the hell out.
Salem worked his magic on the local staff, causing Kalen's eyebrow to slowly raise at the witchcraft. While the youth had no qualms about the general abilities of Nyale, Raeka, or Lisanna, it was this kind of ability that made him uneasy and helped him understand his mother's aspect towards it. Making me do things without my consent and completely changing my will... Kalen hated that. He hated it in school when people tried to make him do projects their own way, the incorrect one, just as much as he didn't like the SeeD method of servitude for cold, hard gil. The blonde never could get a proper read from Salem, the man appearing less like a man than an apparition that would sometimes visit his mother for political reasons. Now, it made more sense how he did so well in the political realm. Kalen could never not be wary of Salem, even if the man never treated him poorly. As if on que as Kalen came to a stand, Salem nodded his head towards Rem, like he read his mind and was trying to prove that the blonde was wrong to worry.
Nyale's hand gently grasped his own, to which he responded in kind with closed eyes and bated breath, before stepping over to Rem and gently pulling her up. Not dragging her, he positioned himself and wrapped an arm around her, carrying her around the corner into an empty hospital room and closing the door before sitting her in the empty hospital bed. Looking around, he grabbed a cup of water and slowly closed her hands around it, wiping the blood from her face with a spare towel that was on the bed. "Drink...breathe...." He whispered, sitting next to her and placing her phone in her lap. "You don't have to talk. Big bro is here, Remmy. I'm not going to tell mom either." He rubbed her shoulder as he sighed, continuing to clean her face off, "You know, I was even going to take you, Nyale, and Yukiko out to dinner. But what would our family be without an overly dramatic moment happening when I try to do something nice, eh?" He forced a small smile, trying to assuage her feelings.
Her phone went off a few more times, a certain pink haired man's name crossing the cover with an accompanying text. Guardian Force: none Status: Silent Spells 0

Rem went. She moved only with Kalen shepherding her along. Out of the chaotic room and into a quiet neighboring one. Kalen eased her down onto the simple bed.
The girl was a mess. Her powder blue dress was stained scarlet. Shaking shoulders, messy hair, eyeshadow ruined. Kalen had to pull her hands from her face just to get her to hold the cup. The first sip choked her. It took minutes to get her to empty the cup. But it did what it was meant to- give her something to focus on other than her spiral. Her breathing grew less frantic the longer they sat, and Kalen was able to clean up her face.
'Big bro is here, Remmy. I'm not going to tell Mom.'
At last, she responded. By grabbing Kalen's shirt and burying her face in him, sobbing. That's how they stayed. In her lap, Rem's phone buzzed, forgotten.

He wasn't surprised, but his hands still raised as Rem grabbed his shirt and pulled him close as she burst into tears, sobbing. He let the empty cup sit on the bad as he wrapped his arm around her, the cloud of red hair shaking uncontrollably while the tears controlled her body. Nah, I get it... Rem was a very up tight person, but she hadn't been around a situation like this all of her life. The marlboro attack in their youth aside, this was a completely different kind of stressor that would overwhelm any regular individual. Young SeeD might even crack under such a sudden traumatic experience, so who could blame the diplomatic princess of one of the greater countries in the world for reacting as such?
It didn't stop Kalen from feeling awful though, his normally strong willed sis would rather die than cry in front of him like this were it any other situation. Again, it made him feel a little helpless and equally worthless. He should have been around sooner, but would it have stopped this situation? Was there really anything he could do, or was he just at the mercy and fate of the universe? His arms squeezed Rem tight as he stared into the distance, not really knowing what to say in the moment. Protect your family, but you can't prevent everything from happening to them, right? Air rushed through his nose in an exhale. The dress Rem had on was covered in crimson, a painting on the powder blue that painted a picture of a murder scene. What had been the reasoning for someone shooting Raeka? Right after the insanity of the night before as well, something just felt off...something felt pre orchestrated.
Kalen rubbed the top of Rem's head gently as he soothed her, only pausing to really pull her gently back and look at her. "You know, I think you're being ridiculous Remmy. It's only a haircut, it's not that big of a deal." An obvious joke was partnered with a burning smile that she would know so well, trying to give her something light hearted to bring the edge off of everything that she was feeling. "I can grow it back, you know. You can even brush it if you want, considering I'm sticking around full time again."
Perhaps that bit of news he wanted to share over dinner was better fitting for this situation. Guardian Force: none Status: Silent Spells 0

Kalen hadn’t seen Rem cry since…goodness, had it been since the malboro bud? She’d been a wreck; couldn’t even step into the practice ring for months! She didn’t want to fight, exercise, anything. She’d locked herself in her room and read. Not this time; she clinged to him like a barnacle ‘til he felt confident enough to pull her back, just a little.
She was a miserable sight. Puffy eyes, blotchy cheeks, and none of the crown of authority she’d flaunted for all her life. She tried to bury herself back in his shirt like a rabbit retreating into its burrow at the sight of a hawk. Kalen could hold her back, sure enough, but what stopped it was his joke. She blinked big blue eyes at him. The same blue as his. It broke her out of the spiral enough to comprehend what he said next.
Her grip eased.
”You…You’re staying?” she said in a ragged whisper.
”Promise?”
She didn't let go until he promised.
”Nnmh…!” Rem made a wordless sound as she tugged herself closer again! Not to sob, but to wrap her arms around Kalen and squeeze as tight as she could! There was no escape without prying her fingers off him one-by-one, until eventually she was out of strength and could only sag against her brother, curled up in a ball.

It was pretty dramatic being an older brother to...too many damned siblings. However, it was a job that he was definitely attached to, looking down at his sister who's face looked like she had been shot with all the makeup smeared everywhere. There was always that thought that ran through many people's heads when they found out he was adopted. To say he looked like he came directly from the Nipal line would be an understatement, the relation to his Trabian family seemingly almost non existent. You put Rem and Kalen side by side, other than the different hair, they looked like twins. Her grip eased and she stopped trying to pull herself back into his frame at the new information that he gave her.
"Jeez, since when do I ever lie? I promise. I didn't cut my hair off for no reason, ya know? I told you I was close to finding what I needed to find and I did! Yeesh, you act like I've been gone a long time or something." His voice was sarcastic, but his face was gently teasing and providing more than enough proof that he was sticking around. His eyes and voice became gentle as she assaulted him once more in her embrace, trying to force the air out of his lungs. "I'm sorry I was out of reach...sorry I wasn't around, Rem. I'm sticking around for good." He had enough future content for many books. He had found what he needed to find. Now he had to be here for his family and friends, just as the world doomsday dock seemed to get closer to midnight. Guardian Force: none Status: Silent Spells 0
