I think I was born a furry, because as soon as I was able to talk I was also running around on all fours making animal noises, and a better impression than most little kids. I never played with barbies but I did with little toy animals, and as soon as I was able to draw a furry came to mind...then I discovered the fur community *nod*

Well, just being around other furrys I guess. I mean I have always been different, but never had anyone tell me that they are like me.

I have always had a connection with cats and I find them fascinating. And I share many of their habits and taste. Like I have to be well groomed and clean at all times or I freak. I love meat and not many veggies. I sleep most of the day and am active mainly at night. Cats have always loved me and be by my side... and I knew I was different and I just knew I was a fur.

-edit-
Can't believe I forgot this... but I purr and knead things. Heh I freaked my friend out when I started kneading my pillow and purring when i woke up one morning ^^

A greater being came down to me one day and said "Be thou as thy truly are, and know not the wanton fear of persecution . . . for you are made upon the image of another . . . ((IE Af Mas came over, and said how much I freak out over dragons I should be a scaly xd )

Actually, ive had an affinity for dinosaurs for as long as I could remember. Even back in first grade, I understood what Paleontology was and wanted to be one when I grew up ((How far from the path ive fallen . . .). Well, that grew into an obsesion, until I slowly converted to dragons, and here I am now, a vivid scale. Thanks Affy for awakening me to the furside.

Seeing my first Anthro fox, Who I nicknamed 'Scout' then reconsidered for 'Icuris', on Goldenwolfen. The concept of a personafied animal in a physical sense amazed me for some reason. Even though I'd wacthed tons of movies that had furries in them that picture set it off for me. A year later I was rping a feral wolf, who was member of W.O.E. pack and went by the name of Winds, and soon enough my current fursona Icuris the red field fox anthromorph.

I guess for me, it was a matter of remembering. As someone who beleives in reincarnation, and always loving animals, especially big cats, I just grew attached. I also loved drawing, so when I started drawing and posting a lot on a Lion King fan art site, I kind of became a fur. I may not be die-hard, but my animal self now comes out sometimes, especially when I am sad, and curl up into a tight little ball, or when someone scratches me under the chin.

Being a fur lets me understand things. It also lets me still pretend a little, and play, which is taboo after a certain age. It is something I really miss.

I miss being able to just play, too. I don't get why people feel that after a certain age life needs to get complicated and boring.

o.O Haha, my mom always bought me Barbies that came with dogs or the horses, and she always wondered why I ignored the Barbies but played with the animals instead. When my friends played house, I was invariably the dog 3nodding ... And I know how people feel about just being able to play. The only ones I can truly play with are two of my closest (furry) friends.

::shrug:: like alot of people...i've kinda always been one...just never knew what "one" was until 8th grade...i've always loved werewolves....and just wolves..or dogs..or animals in general...almost all my life i've had some pet...and always wanted more...most of my parents memories of me when i was around 3 and 4 was me in the back yard playing with our sharpeighs Missy...and Hooch..i would mess with Hooch then get him to chase me to where Missy was...and she would jump in front of me and mess with Hooch, and we would all play like that...i also had a pig when i was younger...a pot bellied black and white one named eyore, and i played with him and Missy more then the kids around my house...and yea..i loved watching the anthro characters in the disney movies...and cartoons...(still fell in love with x-men) and whenever i played with my friends it was always
Them: lets play house
Me: can i be the dog?
Them: our family doesn't have a dog
Me: can i be a cat?
Them: no
Me:...Komodo Dragon!
Them:.....ahhh!!
(i had this huge fascination with komodo dragons...i don't know why..still sorta do)
i would run around and play like i was some animal..never had limits..then i started watching anime..and i found myself drawn to the anthro chars. more...and then i started searching the net for anthro chars. and i found furry art...and i fell in love...this was about 7th grade..and i would always draw myself with dog ears...and then i started trying to draw anthro's of me...then i found Dark Natasha : emotion_drool : and i saved all her art on my old computer...and yea...i don't think i ever heard the word "furry" until i was about 14..and even then i saw myself above it..'cuz i thought..."people who play animal...when i have more of a connection"...i thought a furry..was..well...an animal loving poser...::shrug:: i improved on my char. and in 8th grade for our research paper we had to do something that had an arguement..and i did the mental dieses Lycanthropy..and got an A....and i found a pic that i saw myself as..a light grey arctic wolf...and yea...i found this guild...and started talkin to ya'll...and yea...kept my char...though now im starting to lean toward Otters...::shrug:: i've never had to admit to being a furry..'cuz i've always been animal like...and my friends i have said something too just kinda shurg after i told them...and say that they aren't suprised and then politly ask me to stop biting them (i bite twisted ) so yea...::goes back to reading everyones)

It doesn't have to be complicated and boring, it's all on how you choose to live it.

I know and that is why I do things that make me happy, I was just saying that a lot of people are to quick to trade happiness for conformity.

I think it was TMNT that "awakened" me back in 1991. I was 10 at the time so it was the coolest I'd seen at the time. It wasn't until the later half of the nineties that I learned about the fandom and thus what I was. I was hooked from day one.
Sweet memories of exploration ^^
