I'm 17 but I've been literate for as long as I remember. My teachers were always going on about how 'mature' I was. I have to say that the illiteracy rate in this country is alarmingly high and seems to do nothing but rise. Although I suppose that it does not help that spelling errors and other bad grammer are so common in our society.

Well, I feel really old now! I'm 27, but soon to be 28. razz

You young-ins make me feel old, needless to say that I'm in my 20s and I'll leave it at that. I've always used good grammar and spelling whenever and wherever I can. Proper grammar and spelling skills seem to be obsolete now, and it's a darn shame.

16!

I used to txtspk when up until probably 14 and then my mom decided that if I was going to be chatting on AIM so much I'd at least have to spell/use grammar correctly.

xp

Its so much nicer typing like this anyway!

I'm 19. A fresh, new 19.
Most people who have hit 20 have usually grown tired of "talking" like teens and have realized that the world won't take anyone seriously unless he can maturely and efficiently convey ideas.
I reached that point once I got to high school, no doubt to try and impress the junior I thought I was in love with.

It is only acceptable to "txt tlk" when text messaging on the phone, and even then I cringe to actually send a message that reads as follows: meet me @ home. i luv u, baby. c u soon! stressed

Well, I'm twelve, but I've been like this since.... well....

Probably since I was 8 and a half. The last think I did of the 'TXT TLK' ways was an 'I 8 MICHUL JAKSOM' board on Neopets. *shudders* I still have nightmares about it. crying

Peace to all.

Wow.... Everybody is making me feel so young and immature. I'm only eleven, but I will be turning twelve on the seventeenth! Although I have been reading since the age of four, there are five others with similar "tendencies"in my school, such as correcting grammar, actually doing the reading homework, correcting spelling, and sometimes telling the teachers how to spell words. Wow! That was a long sentence I have very recently typed, and I wonder if it is a run-on. I sure hope not.
Edit: That paragraph sounds extremely panicky, as if I was attempting to announce every word in a single breath. sweatdrop

Well...
Glad to see I'm not the only one over the age of fourteen here...

I'm twenty years old, and have an unusually good grasp of the english language in all it's many forms.

But the sad truth is, I didn't learn to read untill grade one of primary school...
But it's not so much about literacy as it is a love and respect of the english language. The english language has always facinated me, despite its utter ambiguity, and contradictory rules.

Ok, I didn't realize there was this many people over the age of 16. Huzzah!

I'm 18, by the way.
I learned English when I was 10 years old. When I moved to Canada I was very shocked at the amount of illiteracy and "slang" used.
Sure, we have slang in German, but I had never seen text talk or chat-speak.

In anycase, after 12 hours of coding HTML, I find it hard to speak either language.

I didn't think there were many literate under- 20s....

I'm 17, I'm also one of only TWO (I think) people in my college class who passed the Level 2 Key Skills (English) test (my score was 38/40). And I thought I was stupid razz
(We're on an IT course, but here in England, it's a requirement to have some level of Maths and English skills to be on most courses)
