No, that is horrible to do to a child. If the child is brainwashed about religion, abortion, or anything before they really start to think about it by themselves, they'll more likely never be able to. It just becomes a constant; not questionable because that's always the way it's been for them. It would become weird or impossible for them to think of the situation another way. If the people they look up to tell them something, then they're going to believe it. Why wouldn't they? I'm an atheist, so I'll admit I'm a biiit biased about sending kids to the whole "Jesus Camp" thing, but I'm not intolernat of religion. What I AM intolerant of is intolerance. I will actively protest such predominantly-Christian movements like banning abortion, banning gay marriage (this is my home front, btw), anything that hurts someone else and restricts personal freedoms. I'll probably end up being guilty of leaning my children toward atheism anyhow, but it won't be a huge problem if they're Christian or whatever unless they start being hardcore and trying to use it against other people or promoting intolerance.....yeesh, I'll give myself nightmares.....I'm homeschooling my kids............... gonk

I am an atheist, so I believe that this life is all you have. To anyone out there who doesn't believe me, just because I don't have a religion doesn't mean that I don't have values. I think that being an atheist makes me more of a good person. Now before anyone bites my head off, I don't mean to imply that theists are bad people. It's only that for me, having only one life, I know that if I screw up or don't help anybody etc. that's the life I'm stuck with, I don't get another chance. I am motivated to try my best. I would try to make my child understand that, and I would tell them that I am an atheist if they ever ask, but I don't think I'll try to force the viewpoint on them. If my child is anything like me, they'll want to know everything, so I'll try to expose them to all theologies that I can, to help them avoid confusion. That doesn't mean that I'll take them to church regularly, but if they want to try it out, I'll let them.

Mm, I'm an agnostic teen still living in a very right-wing christian home, and I'm not... terribly ******** up, nor am I terribly prude.
It depends on how strong willed, and how impressionable someone is.

I've been fed christianity from the time I was born, and I grew up to find out taht I was Bisexual.
...

God says that being 'gay' is wrong, and I spent quite a while of being horridly afraid of going to hell, because I found myself atrrated to girls.

...
Wow, that was a horrible post.
XD;

*is offtopic*

That susks, but my advice is not to take the bible as everyone says you should, and don't let it get to you. Remember, God didn't write the bible, man did. Man is flawed, and everyone was a homophobe back then, so they did that to scare people straight.

I agree entirely with what you are saying. Children, infants, toddlers, they cannot possibly understand the complexities of religion and, as said in your example, abortion. I didn't see the movie, but from what you said, it wounds like the movie would be better off with the characters as teenagers. That aside--
I think that children should be brought up in an Environment where religion plays a key role, but parent's shouldn't be pounding fundamentals of religion into their children when they can't understand them. I mean, their children, for Christ' sake!! They can hardy walk or crawl, and in some cases they can't do both! They hardly no how to speak or can't at all, and yet, parents see it as an okay thing to try to educate children about some greater being. It's cruel. In my opinion, if you want to educate your child about religion, you do it when they can actually understand what your saying and what you mean. About third or fourth grade, I think.
Maybe they need to be even older. If you raise a child brainwashed about Jesus and abortion and everything else, then you just take away the child's ability to think for themselves and make decisions on their own.
