What's your favorite Sci-Fi book or series?

Orson Scott Card!

I liked his Ender's Shadow series better than his Ender books though... with all the little genii joining the global community...

I recently read "Songmaster" by Orson Scott Card. Have you read that? Very good, just like the Ender series. Wasn't Ender's Shadow just one of the Ender series?

I liked Star Gate SG-1 series. It seemed amusing that all the things you learned could never prepare you for time travel.

I thought David Feintuch's books were all right, the Seafort Saga.
I also like Anne McCaffrey's work, but that's a fantasy/sci-fi mix, really.

And I love Christopher Stasheff. You could argue that he writes fantasy, but the first one (Escape Velocity) was definitely a sci-fi.
The fact that it turned medieval-sci-fi is just a bonus. And they didn't even go back in time.
I'll just leave that little puzzle for those who haven't read it... biggrin

I really like the political twists of the Dune Series, but I like Stargate the most (particularly Stargate Atlantis). And oh, I like sci fi animes too. smile

Ender's game, hands down! (just the first one though)

Followed quickly by Ender's shadow and shadow of the Hega..thingy. (I didn't like the third one so much)

Oh, and to answer your question, Ender's Shadow is from a seperate trilogy from Bean's point of view. But maybe that does count as part of Ender series, I dunno?

It's the tiniest book that you'll ever read, but I loved Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury! It was pretty much based on the cold war, which the author was apart of, and the idea of controlling everyone with an idea (communism, for example). It was written so long ago, yet it almost foreshadows what's happening today... very freaky.

I was going to say the Callahan's Bar series by Spider Robinson(who I think is wonderful even if he is trying so hard to be Robert Heinlein that it's almost painful), but then I remembered that my favorites are actually the Stainless Steel Rat books by Harry Harrison.
Bloody excellent books. Wish bookstores carried them.

I've read the Stainless Steel Rat books, enjoyed them a lot! Haven't seen this other series you mentioned, but now I'll have to take a look at the bookstore. Thanks!
