Bowser smirks as he decides not to tell Zeke of the other stipulations. Just as long as this mage can prove he's good enough to help stop whatever evil force dared try to dethrone him! He eyes the rats hiding in the shadows. Then he sees something of interest. There are some slimes, not quite the caliber of that creeping slime, but they should present an interesting challenge. He slows his pace to get his aura away from Zeke, and...

Zeke is confronted with three (Level 2) slimes! Beyond them there appear to be five (Level 2) rats! The rats are still well off, like they're waiting for the slimes to be gone. It would appear these eight creatures are all that stand between him and freedom...

Zeke is twice as fast as the slimes! He can act twice per round!





"You can call me Cross." He gives Benjamin a nod as he begins walking down the road, perfectly prepared. He holds his sword, wooden though it may be, tightly in his right hand. He can feel his hand flex around the handle. He tries a relaxation exercise to calm himself, and it seems to work. He looks over his shoulder to take note of several things. First. He needs to know where the new guy is. Second. He needs to know where Peach and her group are. When he looks over his shoulder, Peach speaks up. "I hope you aren't trying to check up on us." His eyes go wide in realization as he calls back. "Nope. Just checking up on...uh... This new guy. I've gotta know where he is." Peach smirks. "That's fine. Just keep moving."

Before they get to far, it becomes obvious there are plenty of goomba left over! They can easily see ten (Level 2) goombas between their current position and where they're heading!

=Benjamin is nearly stopped cold in his tracks as he sees what looms in the distance for them. The first thing he does is count them out loud. Yep. Each and every goomba is assigned a number and everybody gets to hear it. Before engaging the enemy, though...=

You can call me Benjamin. Let's see about getting to the castle safely...

Zeke's attacks seem to strike the wrong slimes, but as soon as they flash, he quickly knows what to hit them with. Raising his staff in his left hand and he thrusts it down back on the dungeon floor with a boom. It had no effect at all, mind you, it was just for a dramatic effect.

Quickly he began to cast again. Electricity dances all along his palm, again forming an electrical ball. He throws it forward and the the electricity heads straight towards the one that flashed a deep blue. "Spark!"

Then he began casting again. Air quickly gathered in his palm and he fires it towards the one that flashed green. '"Breeze!"

Zeke does some massive damage... The water slime is hit for 43HP. The earth slime is hit for 32HP. That can't be any fun... They seem to pop and...melt their bodies over the floor. The remaining slime doesn't even flinch as it casts Spark for a whole 1HP.

Benjamin deals a *ahem* healthy 2HP to the goomba, but it is sent skidding back as Cross wallops it for 16. With a nod and a wave of his sword... "Come on, Ben! We can take the rest of 'em." He begins rushing towards the next group, all three of them.

Ben?

=He just kinda...blinks. He shrugs, guessing he'll accept the nickname as it were. What did he blink about? It wasn't the nickname. It was the fact that the goomba barely flinched when he hit it, but it went for a spin the moment Cross so much as looked at it. He shakes his head. What can he really do? He looks at his right hand. If he's the class type he thinks he is... He points his open right palm at an approaching goomba, just beyond Cross...=

Bring down a Center of repose!

His eyes closed, Zeke felt the slime melt. It seemed as he was concentrating, he was more attuned to his surroundings. Possibly through magic, or just some innate ability, he wasn't sure. However, he sensed the rats running away.

Smirking, Zeke felt the confidence of one rat grow as he turned around and charged Zeke. Big mistake, Zeke thought to himself. Grabbing his staff tighter in his left hand, sparks began dancing all over his palm. However, due to his concentration, he felt more control over this energy... The sparks seemed to grow more and more, larger than a normal Spark spell...

The electrical ball was maybe twice the size of a normal one, and with that, Zeke's eyes snapped open. He quickly found the rat, running, nearing him. Not fast enough, he said to himself as he thrust his right hand forward.

"Spark!" Zeke called out as the spell surged forth through the air, crackling as it zoomed towards the rat...

That rat doesn't know what hit it as it is lit up for 20HP! However. That was the sacrifice to give the rest of the rats the opportunity to attack. They come out of the shadows in a mad rush to do something. The first two to him miss, one so miserably is rolls along the ground only hurting itself 1HP. One rat is lucky enough to get off a critical strike, clawing and biting him and trying its best to latch on for 4HP. The extra weight slows Zeke down just enough for the final rat to have two goes at him; though, he only hits once for 1HP.

Cross is beginning to feel the burn! He's got a brow full of sweat, but he's not done yet. He doesn't even feel at all challenged yet. Two mighty blows later there are two more goombas down for the count. As he braces himself for an attack, he notices one doesn't come from behind. That means Benjamin's taken care of the one he started. With a nod of his head and a chuckle, he brushes off the 3HP charge from the three remaining goomba. Even a critical hit from one of the two hitting feels like a mere tickle. He knows what that means, though. It means that stronger enemies are sure to come along.

=He looks at the goomba that just went the way of the dodo. Then he looks at his hand.=

There's a lesson learned. I'm better with magic.

=With a smile finally affirming confidence, he aims his palm at his next victim. With the numbers already drastically reduced, there's just one thing for Benjamin to do. He targets the one he believes Cross is least likely to target and lets his concentration center there. As an orb of light begins surrounding the goomba, he releases the spell.=
