Houri would try two more times but both times the energy she managed to manifest was still just Normal energy, cloaking her fur in it like she would when using Tackle. It was clear to Sub she was having difficulty manifesting the Bug energy needed for a Pin Missile and so he brought out the one Pokemon of his that could help with that; Legrand the Drapion.
"Pion!" Cried the large purple scorpion as it appeared from its ball, the little Galarian Zigzagoon becoming slightly intimidated by the big bug and thus hid behind her trainer's leg. Sub would reassure her that it was okay, that Legrand was one of his Pokemon and thus one of her teammates and was friendly. He did have to admit to himself though that it had been awhile since he used Legrand and so was a bit ashamed to call him a 'teammate' when he had been benched for so long.
"Legrand, this is Houri, she is one of our recent additions and she is having trouble learning Pin Missile. I want you to not only show her how you use Pin Missile but maybe explain to her how to manifest the proper energy to use the move." He explained to the Bug and while it didn't understand his words it did understand the intent and what Sub wanted and with a confident stride it walked up to the edge of the virtual clifftop and aimed its tail at the targets, signalling to Sub it was in agreement with him. "Good, now then watch this Houri...Legrand, use Pin Missile!" Sub called out.
With a cry Legrand would launch one pin from its tail at each of the five targets, the pins themselves small pieces of his carapace infused with Bug energy. Each pin would strike the targets dead center and shatter them one after the other. Houri watched in awe as her comrade effortless used Pin Missile and destroyed all the targets the first time. He made it look so easy! Plus was that the Bug energy she felt? What she needed to create to use Pin Missile? That was a very help example.
"Drapion drap drap!" The scorpion called out to Houri as he looked over his shoulder. The Galarian Zigzagoon would jump as it appeared Legrand called her over, Sub giving her a nod of approval when he too realized what Legrand wanted. With a gulp Houri would slowly walk up to the waiting Drapion. Once she arrived Legrand would begin to discuss things further with her, the two having a minutes long conversation in Pokespeak before anything happened, Sub standing there wondering to himself what they could be talking about.
He'd soon figure out what was going on as Legrand began to glow with pale green Bug energy, the Drapion teaching Houri how to manifest the needed energy before moving onto actually learning Pin Missile. Sub would just stay back and let them do their thing, watching as Houri concentrated really hard to pull the energy out, only for once again for her fur to be cloaked in the Normal energy of a Tackle attack, much to her disappointment. From what Sub could see Legrand reassured her it was okay and once again showed her how to do it. This was nice to see but it looked like learning Pin Missile was going to take longer than expected.

The two Pokemon would spend a fair amount of time getting down how to manifest Bug energy but by the time they were done Houri was able to freely pull out the green colored energy and cloak her fur in it, the Galarian Zigzagoon realizing it was far easier to do than she had previously been making it. With that step out of the way the next step was to concentrate it into her individual hairs and then send them flying at a target.
At this point Drapion had stood back and Sub created a single target with the room's controls, both trainer and Pokemon then waiting to see what Houri could do. The Zigzagoon would summon forth the Bug energy, concentrate it into her back fur, and condense it down into a small patch of fur, not quit down to individual strands of hair though. She would then attempt to launch the fur and to their surprise did get it off her back...though with only enough force to create a 'poof' of loose fur and not enough to send a 'pin' flying. Legrand would speak up with some words of advice and Houri would try again.
After several more tries Houri managed to concentrate the Bug energy down to the hairs, the glowing of the Bug energy far less spread out but highly condensed. With that done she would attempt to launch one of the five hairs she concentrated the energy into but again she just couldn't get enough force behind the attack to send it flying, the 'pin' blowing away harmlessly. At this point Sub stepped up as he thought of an idea. "Get a running start." He told the Zigzagoon, both her and Legrand looking at her confused. "Try to do something similar to Tackle, concentrate the energy as you run then when you're ready to launch stop and send that momentum into your hairs and launch them. Can't hurt to try, right?"
Figuring it wouldn't hurt Houri took walked far away from the clifftop and once there was enough space she would begin to run towards the edge at full speed, summoning forth a bunch of energy to surround her body like Tackle, ensuring it was Bug energy, then concentrated it into her back and finally into five individual hairs. Once she got close to the edge she stopped suddenly, arched her back and...launched a single Pin Missile! The Bug energy empowered hair missed the target but it was sent flying with enough force to actually hurt something had it hit! Both Sub and Legrand jumped in surprise and cheered for Houri, the Zigzagoon immediately beginning to run around in circles, happy and pleased with herself.
"Good job Houri! Now don't stop there! Let's try that again and see if we can't work on that aim, you're doing so good!" He praised the girl, not wanting her to settle for this just yet. With a nod the Pokemon would walk away from the edge and begin again. She was going to hit that target.

An hour later Houri was launching Pin Missiles with ease, the length she had to run getting shorter and shorter each time. She had also managed to hit the targets several times, once even hitting four in one attack but never could get that fifth one out. Sub was so surprised by Houri's rapid progress in learning Pin Missile and it was all thanks to Legrand's advice and tutelage, Sub complimenting his Drapion at one time, the bashful scorpion just shying away. Sub would then turn back to Houri who looked to be getting exhausted but really wanted to hit all five targets in one go, preferably without having to get a running start but that didn't look like it would happen yet.
"It's okay, Houri, you've made a ton of progress, we can take a break now." He tried to tell the Pokemon but she wouldn't give up, instead she walked back again, gained her space and ran for the edge and the targets, launching another four strike Pin Missile and hitting four out of the five targets, getting frustrated with herself that she couldn't get that fifth one out. "Houri, take a break. Here, I got a Poffin for you." Sub said, taking out a Poffin from his backpack and holding it up for her to see, however she ignored him and went back to practicing Pin Missile. Sub sighed and simply presented the Poffin to Legrand, the Drapion greedily eating it. "...hungry?" Sub said, shaking his head before sitting down on the ground.
About a half an hour passed and both Sub and Legrand fell asleep, the scorpion curled up on the ground and Sub laying up against the Drapion. While they napped Houri kept practicing, over and over and failing to get that fifth needle out each time. Like before she got a running start and stopped briefly at the edge only to trip, fail her Pin Missile this time and go tumbling over the edge of the cliff...except this was still just a room and much to the Galarian Zigzagoon's delight she was still on solid ground, it only looked like she was floating in midair.
Once the adrenaline of almost dying left her the Pokemon broke down and sobbed to itself, frustrated that it couldn't get that fifth attack off. After all it had been through, being Shadowfied, getting Purified, training to use its moves, and every time something gets in her way. Every time she has to push herself more and more, the tasks getting harder and harder. If only she was bigger, stronger, had more strength to draw upon. If only she was...evolved.
A bright white like would engulf Houri...
Fifteen minutes later Sub and Legrand would wake up to the sound of a Pokemon barking, Sub opening his eyes to see a black and white Linoone running around in circles excitedly, barking all the while. For a split second Sub looked around for Houri only to quickly realize that the strange looking Linoone was Houri, that she had evolved. "Houri!? You evolved?" Sub asked in disbelief. The Galarian Linoone would stop its celebrating and nodded excitedly before turning to the targets, gave off a confident growl, and without the need of a running start launched off a Pin Missile from her back and struck each of the five targets, one after the other, in a display of a full powered Pin Missile.
"And you master Pin Missile! You did! I'm so proud of her, Houri!" Sub said, celebrating with the Pokemon as he ran over, picking her up, and holding her in a hug, Legrand scuttling over to join them in celebration. It was at times like this that Sub really enjoyed being a Pokemon trainer.
