You claim that the games aren't complex yet you admit to do well against the computer you need to have a working knowledge of the combos and split-second timing. Sure they don't have great stories or interesting puzzles but there is a complexity to knowing the moves and implementing them against an opponent. Against most good human players (which is where the real fun of fighting games is) button mashing is a good way to lose, fast.

If move combos are what you call 'complexity' in a game, then I'll forewarn you of these like, uber-complex games called First person shooters! In these things, not only do you have to know how to quickly put a bead on a guy or ricochet a grenade off a wall, but you actually have to know where to go in the level!

Oh please all you realy have to do is put a dot on a guy and hold down fire untill he's dead, lather rinse repeat untill you've beaten the game. A good fighting game is almost like a chess match in high speed, you have to know when is the proper time to punch, kick, block, and counter all while trying to predict the opponet's next move.

Now the argument between FPS and Fighting games is an interesting one. While an FPS might have a better story in single player, multiplayer generally shows that the fighting games have more character. Generally speaking of coarse.

Ah yes, 2-D none of this 3-D nonsense. Back then it was simpler, left, right, up, down...But now with all the directions it's just crazy!

Heh. I got horses with teeth that are probably in better shape than Cammie's.
And yes, 2D was the best age of fighter games.

River City Ransom was fun back then. Still is, actually. Nothing like an 8-bit school beat-em-up provoker.
