Crenn Just letting you guys know, Rain and I are no longer mates. Crenn, you might want to explain to people what you mean. sweatdrop I got confused last night, and it looks like other people missunderstood it too. He said something to me last night along the lines of...they're not mates, but they're boyfriend and girlfriend now. Or something. o.O

The term mate can get a little confusing at times. For some it is only used to describe an online relationship, for others they use it in replace of saying boyfriend and girlfriend and I have even heard the term "life mate" in replace of husband and wife.
Personally I take the terms boyfriend and girlfriend to be a bit more serious then "mate." Like with Kuro he is my RL boyfriend and also my mate.
The term mate probably should be exclusive to those actually having sex, you know... mating. But that would be introducing logic into the fandom and we all know that is like trying to mix water and oil.

My mate is more than a boyfriend to me, but we're not married...so he's my mate. x3 But the way Crenn worded that made it sound like they broke up. So, I was confused when he told me.

To me, a mate is more then a boyfriend of girlfriend. A partner,a friend, not just somone i'm interested in sexualy and I have feelings for. I'd think of a mate as somone that said "lets not have sex anymore." i'd agree with them, though i'd tell them I wouldn't like it, but i'd stay with them. If a boyfriend or girlfriend did that, i'd snort at them and roll my eyes and such. I might stay for a little while but not long after that.

Today was tiring. I woke up at 4:30am to feed the goats and the dogs, got dressed in my uniform and went to work at 4:45am to feed and potty the dogs and put them out into their respective runs and yards. Around 5:45am, I showed up at the EOC and expected to leave at 6am but no...Eloise's alarm clock had not gone off so me and the Sgt had to wait 45min until she got there. Then we had a 2.25 hour drive to Pt. Reyes where I was partnered with another cadaver dog and sent on a 4mile hike in freezing wind. Though I wasn;t cold, everyone else was. Came back to the CP, then sent out on a grid search to look for car keys. Do you know how hard it is to look for car keys in large brush and ivy? very hard -.- And then I had to wait 2 hours until Eloise and Sgt returned from their search before we could come home.

It seems that white rats are not entirely popular in our fandom. Too bad. I think they make excellent characters as a metaphor for life. And I think they're cute, both in anthropomorphic form and their usual half-kilo quadruped form.
By the way, I once read that you should never lift a rat by its tail, lest you "deglove" it - tear away the skin and flesh from the bone, basically. I thought that this was interesting, because in my animal handling training we were taught to generally try to lift rats (gently) by the tail because, so we heard, it's safer. At least, safer for us...

It's ok to for those that know how to handle, but for pet rats, especially kids who handle roughly, if you tell them to pick them up by their tail, they'll tend to swing them and that;s where the de-gloving comes in. But to be picked up gently, it's ok...I just wouldn't recommend the swinging >.<
