I know it seems strange, but like I said. I don't know for sure. I have a gun encyclopedia but I don't have it on me. And you have to remember that in the early 1900s, and thing with the word "Machine Gun" was going to be heavy.

I know it seems strange, but like I said. I don't know for sure. I have a gun encyclopedia but I don't have it on me. And you have to remember that in the early 1900s, and thing with the word "Machine Gun" was going to be heavy.

But then the question arises... why make a gun that big in a pistol caliber? Why not go all in and make it in a rifle caliber?

The theory was to cut down on ammo cost and since they were still thinking that war was going to be fought like the American Civil War. Something that would be very useful to defend bridges.
