As Danielle spotted the lake, and the small boats bobbing silently on its glassy, dark surface, her excitement grew to an uncanny level. She paused for a moment at the edge of the docks, taking in the surreal scene. The lake was black beneath the top of its tame waters, creating a glossy reflection that copied the painting of evening sky above. The stars twinkled silently in their vast abyss of night, but paled in comparison to the moon's brilliant glow as it sat overlooking the Earth beneath.

It had been several years since Danielle had seen a sky like this one. Back in Ireland, her family had lived quietly in the beautiful countryside, and breathtaking night scenes like this one were commonplace. But ever since the move to a bustling part of London, the brilliance on the sky was reduced to vision of a few of the brightest stars. Seeing this, Danielle felt more at home than she had in a long time.

Sighing, she pulled her cloak tighter against her. It certainly was chilly tonight. She hoped they wouldn't be sitting out here on the cool surface of the lake for too long. Walking among the boats, she picked one towards the front of the brigade and gingerly placed a foot in its hull. The boat held, sturdy and fast, and Danielle realized they must have been enchanted to remain level lest some mishap occur. With this in mind, she climbed into the boat, grateful that it didn't rock or sway with her added weight. Taking a seat at the end, she gestured for Alex to join her, smiling widely.

The lake had turned into a dark mirror as the light had left the sky in their waiting. Phi stared at it with awe, it was beautiful. On the horizon she could distinctly see the flicker of what seemed to be candle light, but she knew it was most likely the school. A bubble of excitement started to rise in the redhead and she felt herself glowing slightly. She had felt this sort of enthusiasm only a few other times. Though at each occasion, including the one at hand, she had wanted to jump up and clap like a child. Though she restrained, instead she allowed herself to simply squeeze her books very tightly as she tried to keep her small smile from growing. Though, she could read in the atmosphere, that few were suppressing their curiosity and desire the way she was.
She pulled her eyes from the lake and instead began to make out what seemed to be over a dozen small-ish boats moored on the edge of the dark water. Moving closer she also recognized the fact they were all oar-less. Phi brightened - clearly more magic. She simply adored how in this world it was used at any possible occasion.

Each boat seemed about enough for three or four people. She turned around to Jane and hoped they would sit together. She carefully approached one particular boat and motioned for Jane to climb in first with all her things. As she did so she saw the tall boy looking around a bit on his sides. Phi assumed he had noticed the same thing she had, that the boats were made for multiple people. She put her books in the boat next to Jane and approached him, tapping him lightly on his muscular shoulder.
"Would you like to sit in our boat?" She looked up at him, her dark eyes telling him that if he preferred solitude she would not mind. Phi was astounded that she herself was not already sitting alone on a boat, reading once more.

Colton approached the lake slowly, marveling at the glowing reflections on the surface of the water. As he began looking at the boats, he noticed many students clambering in without a second thought. He spotted an empty one and was tempted to climb in himself, but his attention took a rapid turn as someone tapped on his shoulder. Flexing his jaw and tightening his muscles in a defensive reaction, he turned his head a bit, dropping his eyes to the same red-headed girl he had been looking at earlier. She asked if he would like to accompany her in the boat she had already chosen, and Colton smirked a bit in response. Pretending to think about it for a moment, he shifted his luggage to his other hand. "Well, I don't know...I've had so many other offers already, I don't wanna let anyone down..." Colton brought his fingers to his chin, scratching his closely shaven skin before letting out his first brilliant smile. "You look like a pretty good host, though. I suppose I could join you two." He decided abruptly, following the girl to her boat and offering a sturdy hand to assist her as she got in.

Alex knew when they had reached the docks when Simi tried to claw her way onto his head to keep from falling into the lake. The waters were pitch black and a bit eerie looking. Idly he wandered what creatures lurked beneath the surface aside from mermaids. As he approached the boats he noticed how small they seemed which him him even more nervous then he already was. Yanking Simi from his shoulders he held her tightly and made his way over to the boat Danielle had stepped into. Shaking a bit he stepped into the boat carefully and let out a relieved sigh when the boat did not sway. Alex took a seat next near the middle of the boat. He was not a very strong swimmer and Simi would scratch him if he brought her too close to the edge. "Do you know how far it is from here to the castle?" He asked Danielle as he stared out across the lake trying to catch sight of the shore on the other side but it was too dark out to tell.

Danielle watched Alex step carefully into the boat, giggling lightly as Simi anxiously tried to stay as far away from the water as possible. As he sat, Danielle followed his gaze into the darkness of the night, looking out across the glass surface of the lake towards the faint light which she could only assume the school emit. "Not too far, I don't think. My sister said it shouldn't take us very long to get there. I really don't know how much longer I can wait! I want to see the castle." She turned towards Alex, the soft light from the lantern that perched on the stern of the boat alighting on her face and bringing out her delicate features. "My sister, Kaera, has told me all about Hogwarts. She said the castle is huge, and the first time you see it is absolutely incredible. I can't wait for that moment." She smiled, a light breeze coming off the lake's surface making her shiver slightly. She wrapped her cloak fully around her, creating an encasement from which her warmth wouldn't easily escape.

Standing next to the boy, she had her first chance to marvel at how tall he was. She felt very petite indeed, comparing herself to him. Her smile brightened as she read into his silence and 'decision-making' gestures. She had little trouble distinguishing his sarcasm. As he shifted his luggage and momentary stood there, pretending to think, Phi took the opportunity to look into his features more closely. His thick eyebrows framed his sharp, clear eyes. His strong jaw and cheekbones ever encouraging the air of strength about him. Then suddenly, his thin lips parted into a brilliant smile. Phi couldn't help but stare at it for just a moment. He looked completely different with it on. Gentle giant Phi thought immediately and smiled gently back at him, quite pleased he took her offer. They walked back down to the boat and she was further surprised as he offered her help into the boat. She softly took his hand and stepped inside the rim. This time not hitting the tip of her foot as she had the first time.

She lifted her books onto her lap and sat again next to Jane. Only now had she realized she had not asked her companion whether the boy's presence was welcome. But intuition told her Jane would not mind. She turned back to the boy and pulled out her hand in a gesture of introduction, "Phinelia von Ichval. But please, just Phi."

After the girl was comfortably settled into the boat, Colton carefully loaded his small suitcase and caged owl inside, pushing them to the corner to avoid getting in anyone's way. Next, he stepped inside, being careful to balance his weight, and taking a seat across from the two girls. As his escort formally introduced herself, a allowed another small smile, silently telling her that he liked her name. "Well, Phi, I'm Colton Raines, but feel free to call me anything you'd like." Colt did a small bow, his eyes lingering on hers for a moment until moving on to the other girl, assuming she would chime in with her own introduction at any moment.

Black Lake/ First Year Boats
Ronyo Storm - Unsorted
First Year

The walk from the train station to the black lake had been a rather quick one but it had given a small amount of time to look around the grounds as they followed the groundskeeper. The place had a quiet somber tone to it, truly showing off its more natural esthetic. The trees and grass were all healthy and well attended to, likely the results of the very woman they now followed.

Upon reaching the lake Ronyo quickly understood how the large body of water came to be given its name. The surface was like that of smooth obsidian and reflected just as vibrantly. Seeing the small armada of boats awaiting passengers Ronyo was beginning to understand the idea. A grand entrance and a overly elaborate first trip to the majestic stronghold of learning helped keep the mystic and wonder to all those attending. For even Ronyo found himself captivated and slightly in wonder of the spectacle and that was a feet in and of itself at times. With another chuckle the boy made his way along the shore looking from boat to boat deciding on which one he should board. Then he noticed the boy from earlier he had made small talk with about the marines.

'Best to go with what you know'

Ronyo smiled a bit as he reached the boat and noticed a red headed girl he had noticed from earlier as well. He had not talked with the girl but she seemed to have a level enough head on her shoulders with her lack of overly bubbling personality. With a quick clearing of his throat to gain notice of those aboard he have a small nod of his head.

"Permission to come aboard?" The statement was part in fun and part in seriousness, truth laced with a bit of humor was always a good way to create levity among people.

Phinelia noticed the carefulness he placed on his motion and actions. One could tell much from watching another, as long as they knew what to look for; and phi could clearly see how logical and strong minded Colton was.
Once he introduced himself and returned his bow and nodded, planning on just referring to him as Colton in the future. Phi looked to Jane, knowing better than to introduce someone for themselves, and then she heard someone approaching the boat and turned around. A first year boy, whose features she could not quite make out due to the minimal lighting, had come up to their boat. Phi smiled at his humor and looked form Colton to Jane, feeling as if she had invited enough into the company without any word. She would let them decide - she had after all, seen this boy speaking to Colt before as they stood waiting to come to the boats moments ago.

Blaire followed suit and made his way to the lake with the other first-years. The dark, reflective waters broken by the small, wooden boats dotted along the shore. He paused for a moment, his left hand on his hip, surveying each vessel - weighing his options for company. His eyes shifted between the boats, a good number of students already settled into each one, Hmmm...I like the look of that one, he commented to himself, remarking one of his peer's superior muscularity. Blaire mulled it over for a moment in his head before coming to his conclusion, That'll do.

He resumed his pace to the lake-front, and upon reaching the craft, two other girls already on board and another boy waiting, half-heartedly asked, "May I?" The first-year didn't actually wait for a reply, springing into the boat and lighting his face with a warm smile as he addressed the three of them, "The name's Blaire."

Colton was enticed by the view - not just the marble texture of the lake on which they sat, but the dark silhouette of the giant castle that was barely in view. As his gray eyes traveled along the landscape, his heart jumped a bit when somebody cleared their throat from behind him. In the couple seconds that it took him to turn around, he noted mentally that it likely belonged to a boy, judging by the depth. As his eyes crossed Ronyo, he brought a small smile to his lips again, certainly beating his record of number of smiles per day. "Permission granted." Colt held back his laughter as he scooted to his right, clearing a spot for his fellow affiliate before gesturing to make himself comfortable.

Near the same time, another student invited themselves aboard, and Colton let his eyes survey them. His first impression was feminine, though something about the way they had been standing at Hogsmeade Station, along with the way they had spoken, told Colt that this was a difficult one to identify. Not wanting to be rude, but unsure of what to think, he introduced himself in attempt to have his questions answered.
"Colton Raines." He held out a hand to shake, hoping that the firmness, or lack their of, would help him decipher this student's gender. He had never been in this position before, but he did his best to keep a stern look plastered on his face to ensure that his thoughts were unreadable.

Black Lake/ First Year Boats
Ronyo Storm - Unsorted
First Year

Climbing aboard the small craft Ronyo remained standing while he turned to the two girls already sitting. Chivalry dictated that he introduce himself to any lady before sitting himself, and being raised by his mother almost solely it meant he had been taught many such lessons. He gave a quick bow and offered a hand if they choose to shake it.

"Ronyo Storm, many thanks for allowing me aboard."

Not a moment had gone by when another student had joined them with not much in the way of manners. However the lack of etiquette was outweighed by the odd scene that was now before him. The newest member of their small water craft had many of the first off appearances of a girl and even some of the mannerisms but it was Ronyo's sixth sense that seemed to be causing the mental halt. Having lived in the forest for so long the boy had developed many a keen sense and also developed a small sixth one that helped in these odd times. That and this latest new student had a smell that was not like the other two girls on board.

Not wanting to follow suit and be rude himself Ronyo accompanied Colton in introducing himself and hoped that upon further conversation more evidence and information would become clear. Ronyo of course waited his turn in the introduction line also not wanting to ignore the other two girls when they decided to reply to the introductions in turn.

Jane was a little unsure of the boy that had joined them. She just had a bad feeling about him though it eased her a little when she realized she was taller then him and could actually have a chance against him in a fight. "I'm Jane Abigail Doyle. You can call me Jane or Abbey, your choice." Jane said looking at the beautiful castle. Jane was beginning to feel like the third wheel until someone else appeared and joined them. Then she felt a fourth wheel. She decided to make conversation. "So anyone have any particular houses they want to be in" She muttered in a now incredibly thick British accent. I got more pronounced when she was nervous or upset.

She could see that the two boys recognized each other and this pleased her. Before the second boy had arrived, a momentary flicker of worry for Colton had gleamed inside her. She had worried he would be bored, or even a bit annoyed, at having two girls - two complete strangers - as boat-mates. Now, though, it all felt resolved.
The other boy was extremely courteous, just as Colton had shown himself to be gentlemanly. Phi smiled to him and took his hand. "Hello Ronyo." the name rolled off her tongue, she quite liked its unfamiliarity.
Just as she was about to introduce herself to him, another student jumped into the boat. Phi blinked and her fingers slipped from Ronyo's hand. This first year immediately appeared female, but just as the boys had noticed, Phi's observance also revealed to her something was out of order. She bowed her head politely and introduced herself, following Colton's example. "Phinelia von Ichval" she said a bit louder than she normal would with her soft voice, to ensure Ronyo heard her as well.

Their boat was quite full now and any other additions would make it crowded. Phi shuffled a bit closer to Jane and opened her book crisply waiting for launch. From the corner of her eye she watched Blaire and even made eye contact with both Ronyo and Colton, trying to evaluate whether they had the same premonition she had.

She took up Jane's offer of conversation. Seeing clearly that she felt a bit out of place. "Ravenclaw i think."

Colton listened silently as Jane introduced herself. He could tell by the way she eyed him that she was unsure of his intent, but it made him happy that he was not the only mistrusting one here. As she asked about houses, his face grew a bit weary. That seemed to be the main topic of the night, though I guess there was good reason behind it. Straightening his posture, if that were possible, he contemplated Phi's answer to the Jane's question, then added a few words himself. "I seem to have traits from nearly every house...my mum was a Gryffindor, but her brothers were both in Ravenclaw. I could see myself in either honestly...perhaps Slytherin, as well. I believe I'd be a bit out of place in Hufflepuff, though I have little preference to where I am placed. I trust the sorting hat...he seems like a good guy, from what I've heard..." He threw a bit of sarcasm on the end of his sentence, raising one corner of his lips, but not quite managing a full smile. He glanced at the latest addition to their boat again, then shifted his attention to ensure not to draw attention to himself. His eyes met with Phi's again, and she seemed to be delving into the same train of thought.

EMRYS VICT

The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Emrys followed the gameskeeper to the lake listened as she spoke. Turning his gaze towards the boats she pointed at, he felt a sudden sense of fear wash over him. It suddenly hit him that he'd never been on a boat before. He stayed in place, watching as the other students excitedly climbed into their boats and he shivered softly, feeling a slight breeze across the water. 'Okay. Don't be a chicken. You can do this. It's just a boat on a lake. Besides, I'm sure they don't make a habit of letting students die on their first day.' He told himself as he got his legs to start moving again. Climbing into the boat that the Gameskeeper had said she'd be in, he sat down and clutched onto his journal tightly. "See? Nothing to worry about. Easy peas-y." He spoke to himself, making sure he wouldn't fall over board or anything.
