stellarmagic Not exactly... Quote: Some rare species of beldon could actually survive in space, drifting in interstellar nebulae or gas clouds. They could also consume minerals in small planetoids and asteroids by secreting acid on their tentacles to bore into rock and metal. They have been known to even latch onto crippled starships for their mineral content. Like the beldons on Bespin, these "space beldons" also excreted Tibanna gas. In the dense gas and debris between tightly packed stars in a nebulous star cluster I'd think such creatures would flourish, especially if their metabolism would be able to utilize the abundant heat energy from the nearby stars. Meh, I'd buy that. And if things turned sour in the negotiations, a less morally upstanding person can just detonate the Tibanna fields, causing mass destruction, killing the beldons, and putting your sector into financial ruin.

Ah the downside of a forum, multiple conversations occurring simultaneously.
But as for Nelo's suggestion of something less obvious. What is there? Star Wars strategy revolves around shipyards, gas supplies, hyper lanes, and mineral wealth. Choose one and your nation is guaranteed as a strategically important place, choose none and be ignored.
It's like on earth, we fight over land, oil, trade routes, and mineral wealth. All other considerations are secondary.

K-Blade Cale Darksun ....guess no one wants to hear the tale of Vedij... I must be losing my touch... sweatdrop I’m listing Yay! Well see, Admiral(retired) Ronnan Tyla Vedij, Vedij's dad, died in a freak traffic routing accident on the Vedij Homeworld of Coruscant along with Vedij's mum. The thing about it is, the Admiral was a loud and firm opponent of the New Order and of the Politicalization of the Navy. Just after the accident, Vedij's brother Elon and his TIE Fighter wing were transfered to the Far Orbit. Even a blind Glit miner could smell conspiracy. And with this looming over their heads and Kenit's continuing brutality, the Vedij Brothers started planning a mutiny. Then came the battle with the Silent Blades. The Silent Blades were some tough a** pirates, pro raiders who had the skill and the firepower to take out system patrol craft in any rim system they visited. Kenit was ordered to take them out. He chased the Silent Blades back to their Pirate hold out in an asteroid. Like a moron he sent his entire wing of fighters into the asteroid to clear them out. He cleared 'em out all right, but he lost every single fighter he had, with Vedij's brother being among the casualties.

Strategically its important as a fortress system against the Sith.

Vedij now had no family left, was suspected by the Empire, and under the thumb of a Sadist New Order Zealot. Mutiny was no longer a possibility. It was his goal. Vedij bided his time, garnering men to his cause. When the Imps blasted Alderaan, he accelerated his plans. And when Kenit disciplined a formerlly loyal Alderaan crewman for trumped up charges of treason, Vedij made his move. Two thirds of the crew joined Vedij's mutiny. It was relatively bloodless, with Kenit's supporters and the Stormtrooper complement being launched out in the escape pods and marooned. After that, the Far Orbit vanished from the outer rim.

Hi K-blade.
Cale, do you feel like playing a traditional DnD game this summer? I've been hankering for some old school fantasy role playing.

Now I dunno what Vedij and his crew were doing for the two weeks they were gone, but next thing you know, a Nebulon B is hailing Starforge Station and looking for crew and supplies. I'll pick up the story another time, and I'll tell you how I joined up with a crew of mutineers and scum.
Hey Des Voh.
