It's a case of Space Opera verses Tale of Exploration. Which is probably why I prefer to watch Deep Space 9 over most other treks. It's more of a tale about Good and Evil then any of the other series, and has some killer villains and characterization for the good guys. If you like Star Wars you'll like Deep Space 9.
And Stargate, and Babylon 5, and Battlestar Galactica.
If you're a stereotypical trekkie that is more about Exploration then Good and Evil, you're more likely to enjoy... well, all I can think of is Andromeda. Kinda shows how little love there is for Tales of Exploration.

I like them both, though I prefer Star Wars because it has more combat. And lightsabers.
Sulu's sword in the latest Trek movie was pretty sweet, though...

Screw the universe. Enigma can't find her egg descramblifier to undo her accidental egg scrambling. She just wanted them fried. Oh wait, it's probably next to the dimensional portal that leads to the Universe of Everyone Talking Jibberish.
Yes, I'm still on SL, and Nos, if you tell me you're a Boba Fett type avatar that hangs around Larsen, I'm gonna flip, because we might've actually run into each other.

I'm not in any SW groups in SL. I'm with the MSU. Our 1st lab was in Larsen, we were neighbors with a SW RP group that had the majority of Larsen. Our lab was about 100 meters ( including height difference ) from one of their hangars.
