Feline Apathy Black Widows aren't super deadly, like people seem to think, at least that's what I've heard. Not anxious to find out. wink if it doesn't kill you..it's extremely painful. I wasn't planning on finding out either..

Here at my house I've never had a problem with walking into spider webs with spiders in them, but take a jump into Berkeley and man..I was walking up my sister's boyfriends walkway and I walked right into one with a giant garden spider in it. I freaked out...then I made my sister walk in front of me >.>

after dusting off that guild I have that used to be the art center, I'm getting close to opening it to the public. I've got some of the subforums set up and I'm rewriting the rules and the front page.
People I have on staff there can remind as such if they want to. It's furry art related.

I have to carry a stick with me to knock the webs I come across. A few times Ive fogotten and gotten a spider right in the face *freaks out* They put the round web with the spider in the middle right in the center at eye level! Devious buggers smile

Got notification that my two baby mantises were shipped today. That means if all goes well, I should get them Wednesday or Thursday. I can't wait. (Does the excited mantis sway)

A normal dose of black widow spider venom will probably cause some tetany in nearby muscle as well as a lot, and I mean a lot, of pain through any nerves that end near the bite.
Basically the venom turns nerves and muscles ON by forcing nerve endings to release acetylcholine. So muscles contract, as I said, nerves are stimulated, and things are generally screwy until the venom is metabolized into its harmless components. For what it's worth, it works on the same general mechanism as nerve gases like Tabun, Sarin, VX and Novichok. Venom and gases work on slightly different steps in the chain, though.

In any case, I love spiders. They're pretty, they eat pest insects and if you're gentle with them they will not bite you. There are a few aggressive species, but even then they won't typically bite unless they feel threatened. If you really fear walking into spiderwebs, spray a bit of Silly String or something ahead of you. That should either knock the web out of the way, or hang up on the web and allow you to see it.
Most spiders in my home I just ignore. If they stay out of my way, I stay out of theirs. If they are descending from the ceiling of my bedroom, or making egg-sacs in my shower curtains, or otherwise encroaching on my personal space, I pick them up on a piece of card and take them outside. Worse come to worst, if spiders are scuttling across the floor outside the bathroom or bedroom, well... I don't have time to do anything, because the dogs pounce on it and either swallow it or snort it up their nostrils, I'm not sure which.

Sooo....my brother used my car this morning. Got a flat. Well, mom had to take me to work and she and my brother got the spare on. Soo... my mom went out to see if she could get me some new tires. Apperantly, they told her they couldn't replace only two, since my front tires are worn. They'd *have* to replace them all. Then, they told her they didn't have four of the cheaper ones they said they had. They told her she'd have to buy some more expensive ones. $200. She couldn't afford that. The little spare isn't going to last long, and I have to drive over 50mph on the road I take to work. *sigh*...

So much so that people are feeling sorry for us and someone left us a fake christmas tree at our door. I'm already gonna have to buy christmas presents from the dollar store, this was just one more expense I didn't need now. I really should replace it, what with it being winter. It could start snowing soon.
