If cleaning a gun is restrictive, you might as well never buy anything besides an M1911, AK-47, and Mosin-Nagant.

And even then, they need some maintenance.

Having done both and not cleaned my weapon for months on end (that's a thousand plus rounds between cleanings), I can still say my AR never once jammed on me. In fact, I can't remember ever seeing a single jam on my team that didn't require extensive work and either a cleaning rod or a spare part to sort out.

As far as I know, you yank a shoestring dipped in motor oil through the bore of a Kalashnikov, it's clean enough to fire. I don't know about the Colt or the Mosin-Nagant, but if I had an M1911, you can bet I'd get a cleaning kit for it.

Rent a house in the ghetto in a state that has a castle law. Board up all the windows except for one. Leave a big screen TV visible through the one open window. Set up camp by the window with a semi-auto assault rifle. When a ghetto fellow comes through the window for the TV, you get to shoot him legally. Then rent out the house to people who want to urban safari.
