You are right and wrong. Payment for sex is not common practice for "nonbelievers". That's called prostitution, which is fairly uncommon, comparatively.

What you are talking about is the capitalistic love that is bottled and sold to you.

It is sold in the clothes you wear, the car you drive, the scent you spray on. It's a symbol of status or power meant to attract a sexual partner. The capitalists can not sell true love, so they market sex as love to gain profit.

Much of the system plays on our wants and needs, and seeing as capitalism can never satisfy them, it sells us cheap imitations instead and tells us that we should be happy with that.

This.

Perpetua means forever...

Umm, I think you guys are confusing 'love' and 'lust'.

Lust is generally a bad thing, involving sex etc.

Love is when you care for someone, or a group of people so entirely, that it would hurt emotionally and mentally to lose them. There's nothing wrong with celebrating that love.

It's all about intentions. If a muslim man or woman want to buy a rose for their partner or some such thing, there is nothing wrong, as long as the intention behind the gift is a genuine celebration of love.

You don't have to believe in St. Valentine and all those stories and you don't have to believe in Christian ideals to want to dedicate a day to appreciating the beauty of real love.

I mean, what's the history behind Mother's Day? Father's Day? There really is no significance other than commercialism, but does that mean you don't get your parents a gift and dedicate the day to celebrating their dedication to your upbringing?

I always believed that as long as you have love for Allah, believe the right things, be a good person and follow the five pillars of Islam, you'll be fine. Classifying people as 'unbelievers' and putting them down and accusing them of sin and being 'devils' is not a nice thing to do and it's not the muslim way.

They will believe what they want to believe, and we believe what we believe.

Nennies, thank you for your input, you seem to have a very rational grip on our beliefs. I agree whole heartedly with you.
