Learned these basics in 7th grade :] In Japan it is very rude to say Anata to someone. 3nodding Just throwing that out there for future reference xD Just like America saying "Hey you!" Is rude..

Actually, ’anata’ is an informal way of saying ’you’ You can say ’anata’ to a friend or something ^^ But telling it to a Sensei, then I’m gonna get slapped x_x

Oh and this lady from Japan told us to NEVER be very social with someone immediately. Work your way up to a friendship.

BUT also keep in mind Anata also means "dear"
Generally to superiors and not close friends it's rude: But in america its kind of hard to say everyones name for everything. It's ok to use it to friend, but to adress them as their name would be most respectful
