" Well we'll anybody be coming up here for alittle while? " He asked sitting down next to her pulling Max into his lap and smiled down at him scratching behind his ear.

User ImageTheo nodded to Rika's words, understanding her to the point that it made sense to him, but not taking it much further to heart. "Mayhaps though, should it be by your father's wish, that you will not become of the same troubled nature that Miss Rasideth has had to endure; in that, with your father's blessing, he might hopefully find you a husband whom you could and would love." Theo noticed how he seemed to be doing much of this giving of hope, though to him everything was already boiled down to the true actuality: however the two girl's wished, it would be by their father's command that they would obey. It was not different with Theo, his being to be married to whichever goddess was so bound in paper and propagated amongst the libraries that they should be called books, Theo to age as their caretaker. He did not think ill of his late parents for assigning him thus, nor would he hold resentment or self-pity by it.

Rika sighed, she understood what Theo ment, "I hope so, perhaps my father will find one i can come to love.." Rika looked away, she was a little disappointed by his answer, but she did not let it show. "I do hope that Marklyn will one day be happy, i would not like to see her in pain." Rika looked back at Theo, "I do hope that one day, you to will be happy with whomever you marry." She said with a smile.

User Image"I will have hope for Miss Rasideth as well," Theo said, his expression unchanging but something about him seeming different when Rika spoke of his own marriage. What it was was that, reserved as he was, his aair became rather impassive about the subject. "I will not be marrying," he stated emotionlessly. "By late mother and father's wills am I to 'Keep thyself to thy books, to thy property, and to thyself,'" Theo quoted, being able to clearly remember reading the scarlet letters. "We are hear," he said, his tone sill the same as he looked up at the open gates to the Garret Estate. Taking a step backwards to allow Rika to continue forwards, he bowed again. "It was a pleasure having and escorting you Lady Garret." His tone was still hard and now his formalities were even stricter. "May you come by the library again sometime, but for today may it be plentiful as it should, Lady Garret." With these parting words, Theo turned, his cloak swinging around about his feet as he walked away, intending on returning to the library once again.

"Alright then, good-bye.." She said as he left. Rika looked up at the sky as it began to rain slightly. "I guess it can't be helped..." She looked back down and entered the manor. She greeted her father and headed up to her room, where she set the book on the vanity dresser as she sat down. She slowly untied the ribbons that were in her hair, and began to brush it softly, remembering Theo's words... 'Keep thyself to thy books, to thy property, and to thyself.' Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of someone knocking at her door. It was her maid, asking if she wanted a snack. Rika just politely said she was ok and continued to brush her hair...

User ImageTheo felt the downpour starting and sighed, moving under the overhang of the closest building and sitting down on a bench there, sighing."You seem troubled," said a voice next to him.Theo looked about to see he was not alone on the bench, one who looked like an old woman sitting next to him."Would you like to tell me your troubles?" the woman asked, making Theo look at her almost increduously before sighing again."Certainly, for what would be the point of refusing?" he asked and shook his head. "I am troubled indeed. My friend is to be married with whom she does not wish, that or one her parents would see as a vagabond if her atentions this morning meant anything. As well as that, my other friend is unhappy, wishing she--." Theo was stopped by a sudden finger wagging back and forth while the woman tsked at him."But these are not your problems, as much as they are of your friend's," she said, looking at him sternly.Theo was intrigued by the woman's perception, and nodded with a frown. "I suppose that is so. To tell of my troubles...." Theo was silent for a time, before speaking again. "By sacred word am I bound to be a hermit, an old codger of a bookeeper. Never to share love but what my charges could sparingly give before moving on. I do not wish for myself to have that sort of life, but I am hopeless to a cause that has no solution than its own outcome. My troubles are inevitable, one by its nature, cannot be avoided." the old woman sat in silenc for a moment before cackling, rocking on the bench. "That is a burden you wish not to bear?" she asked, looking at Theo seriously despite what mirth she still had."Short of selling my soul, or whatever unearthly cost I could come across, then yes." he answered."Well it seems to me that all you need is a reason to need help. One must have aid for their task to be accomplished if it cannot be done alone, correct?" The woman reached over the edge of the bench's side, hoisting up a bag Theo had not seen there before. She opened then rummaged through it for a time before pulling out a crystal vial, oddly golden liquid sloshing inside the transparent bottle. "For you there," she said, holding the bottle up so that it had Theo's attention while she closed her bag. "Drink it when she you wish to receive your 'help' from is there for a time." With that she tossed the bottle out onto the street and into the now heavier rain. Theo gasped, thinking the bottle would break and jumped after it, catching it before it hit the ground, then turning back to the bench. The old woman was gone. Theo straightened quickly and looked about, not seeng her anywhere before letting his gaze drop to the iamond shaped bottle in his hand. It was real enough, and Theo stood, letting the rain pummel him and wash over the vial for a long while before he pocketed the potion, continuing on his way towards the library through the rain.

"Eh..." Rika stared at the book, and once again Theo's words flooded her mind. "Must be sad, not being able to love another..." Rika sighed, "Well, it can't be helped..." Rika was about to put on her night gown, but something stopped her. Instead, she grabbed her black cloak and secretly made her way through the back door. She walked outside in the pouring rain, and headed for the coffee shop, the book hidden in her cloak to avoid it getting wet. When she arrived at the cafe, she lowered her cloak, she was greeted by friendly hellos, many people there were regulars, like her. She sat at the stool, ordered what she normally had, and began to read, loosing heself in the book..

User ImageOn his way to the library, The had to stop again, seeing a shadowy figure going across the street n front of him. He didn't know who it was, but it made him curious to see someone else so mysteriously, especially after that bizarre woman. Theo touched the vial through his pocket before trailing the other figure, stopping behind a pole when it entered a cofee shop, pulling back its cloak to reveal a flow of hair he recognized instantly. Theo didn't know if he should drink now or not, but decided against it what with the oddity of the drink and that others were in the shop. something told him it was something he should do privately. He sighed to himself, trying to put on a smile as he entered, taking the stool next to her. "Do you know if they serve Rika here?" he asked, waiting for her to notice him with a smile.

Rika was startled by the sound of a familiar voice. She turned to see it was Theo. "Theo! What are you doing here?" She said in a whisper. She was a little surprised he smiled so kindly, seeing as he was acting very cold earlier. Rika set the book down and looked at Theo with friendly eyes and a smile, one she never failed to give him.

User Image"I was going back to the library when the rain started," Theo said. He explained how he had taken refuge on the bench, but left out the part about the woman or the vial she had given him. Again his concious said to keep it a secret, though he didn't want to from Rika. "What about you though?" he asked as Rika's drink was delivered. "Rika," he said, a happiness flaring up in him for the moment that he had only said her name. It was of course, that he was in a place with absolutely no pressure on him to be formal whatsoever, but he was hppy nonetheless. "You didn't happen to finish all of that already now did you?" e asked, smiling again.

Rika looked into her cup, a little confused by the question. "no, i still have a little left.." She looked at Theo, "Why do you ask?" Rika tried to hide the fact that she was happy because this time, he used no formalities.

User Image"Well...." Theo said, falling silent as he looked down at the table, feeling embarrassed. "I thought perhaps that you had finished it and were coming to return it already...." he said, pausing again. "And also... the library is closer to here than to your home. If the rain hadn't let up.... Could we go back together to there until it has?" Theo blushed as he asked his question, but tried his best to look Rika in the face while and after he spoke.

"Ah, that sounds like a good idea, the rain is letting down harder than it was a little while ago, going to the library would be a good idea." Rika sipped the last of her coffee and put the book under her cloak, lifted her hood, and left a tip to the lady. "Alright," she said with a smile, "Lets go."

User ImageTheo hoped the nervousness he felt wasn't keeping him from smiling as well as he stepped outside, holding the door open under the eave for Rika. Then when she had joined him, he darted out into the rain and ran, able to hear Rika splashing behind him as they made their way up to the library. Theo was slightly faster than Rika though, and so reached the top of the stairs first and ducked under the eave of the library, waiting there and opening the door for Rika while also trying to dry himself off before they went inside.

Rika quickly ran into the library. "Geez, your so fast, could you at least have waited for me?" She pouted, but then she smiled playfully. She lowered the hood of her cloak and shook the water off her head. "Ah, its so warm in here..." She looked around, there weren't any more people in the library. "Looks like everyone was smart enough to go home before the rain got worse.." She smacked her forhead, "Ah, i shouldn't have left home, i wouldn't have been caught in this rain..." But if i didn't come, i probably wouldn't have met up with Theo... She thought, making sure he didn't see her blush. She, to, was feeling nervous.
