Username: Dulcea
SoA's Name: Davke
Meaning: Babylonian; “the female earth”
Gender: Female
Species: Lion
Age: Adult
Rank: Medsen Fey
Personality: Davke is a soft spoken girl with a penchant for brewing up love potions and her own peculiar fertility tinctures and charms. She gained streaks of an eccentric nature from her mother but does not let it interfere with her duties. Usually she can be found mixing among the cubs, playing childish games she helps them to create. Her outward behavior makes it difficult for her to form bonds with other adults, and her interactions with them are often stunted and embarrassing. She would like to start a family of her own, if only to redeem the mistakes her mother made, but she still harbors a deep fear of inadequacy that keeps her from doing so. She will not be the sort to flirt or fling, as much as she may enjoy helping her pride mates who desire to do so.
History: Born to a Caplata with a reputation for being indiscriminate, Davke never knew her father. There were rumors early on in her life that he was a Medsen Fey and so from an early age she pursued the profession. As a cub she was ridiculed because she could never stop talking about what she had learned from following the adults around so by adolescence she had learned that it was often better to say as few words as possible. As an adult she discovered that her mother had expected her, like her sisters, to abandon her fancies and pursue life as a Caplata. When she turned down the opportunity they excluded her and her attachment to the father she does not know intensified, pushing her to focus all of her attentions into becoming a top skilled Medsen Fey. When she began to achieve her goal she realized that she was becoming unhappy and something snapped, creating the whimsical lioness that she now is.
Description: Green eyes, light brown base and dark brown mane tail and ear fluff. Markings CC with an abstract natural feel.

.:. Older Brother .:.

Username: Mtorolite
Lion's Name: Inkosana
Meaning: "Eldest Son" in Zulu
Rank: Pesepte
Personality:
Inkosana is the odd one out of his family. Not as spiritually gifted as his younger brother Uovu or his parents, they were at first disappointed when it became clear that their eldest son would not be Houngan. He was, however, really good at finding things. Especially things that his parents needed for their ceremonies. So Inkosana was trained as a Pesepte, and, thanks to the status boost from his relatives, is one of the most respected Pesepte's of the pride. He's always ready to teach young ones, especially about how to treat the remains that they deal with.

One of Inkosana's littermates- a sister- died before his mother delivered. His mother kept some of her bones to honor her. When she passed, Inkosana inherited them. He tends to throw the bones a lot, not on matters of duty, but on smaller decisions that give him trouble. He can make up his mind on big choices, but he's indecisive about little things. He says his little sister has never steered him wrong. He throws the bones about Uovu a lot- he feels that Uovu is more of their parents' son then he is sometimes, and he doesn't know how to talk to his little brother.

Inkosana takes his duties very seriously - especially the visiting of his parents' and baby sister's Hounfor. When not 'on duty,' he's known as a pretty happy guy. He likes little ones, he likes to chat with girls, he likes to hang out with his bros, he doesn't like the taste of zebra, and he tends to have insomnia. He often does his work at odd hours.

He's not morbid, but does tend to be a bit superstitious, especially about Hounfor. Anyone he finds -aside from a Pesepte doing soemthing legit- messing around with a Hounfor is going to be dealt with. Severely. Despite his superstition, he's very comfortable around Dead Places and Hounfor, and always leaves some kind of small offering - like a flower- when he does his work. He also tends to talk to the Ghede Loa whose grave he is disturbing.

Prompt Number: 1
Prompt Response:
It was moonrise, and Inkosana was making his nightly visit to the double mound that marked his parents' grave. He always at least stopped by, even when he was really busy, just to say a few words to them. Especially about his brother.
He was sometimes angry at them for dying; they were not as old as some that had died, and he was still a young lion. He couldn't fill their footprints, in the pride or with his younger brother. He was sure that he wasn't cut out for leadership or respect; he just happened to be good at what he did. But he was Mbaya and Ziara's bloodline, and he had a reputation to uphold.
He was always ashamed of himself for feeling angry; death was natural, and it came for everyone. And they weren't out of reach. Not by a long shot.

Inkosana put the groundnuts he had brought in front of his father's mound. When he was very little, his father used to play with him with nuts just like them, batting them back and forth and sending him off to chase them down. He liked to bring him happy memories.

For his mother, he brought a bright green clump of feathers he had found, no doubt dropped from a molting bird. He always tried to bring her pretty things; he remembered her being so beautiful, and he wanted his offering to her to be beautiful, too.

He looked at the offerings scattered around the Hounfor, and sighed. Almost all of them were from him. Uovu . . . he didn't even seem to care they were gone. Inkosana did not understand his brother. Maybe it was because he was closer to the Loa anyway, so he didn't feel the pain that Inkosana did. Or maybe Uovu was just so wrapped up with his own duties, he couldn't be bothered to visit. It was possible. His duties as Poupe had to be important. Otherwise he would make time to visit his parents. Right?

After saying a prayer and speaking to his parents for a few minutes, Inkosana decided to go find some flowers for his sister's Hounfor. Talking to her would probably help him sort out what to do about Uovu, if anything at all.

Lion's Name: Umgo'godla
Meaning: "backbone" in Zulu
Personality: Umgo'godla has the patience of a saint and always has time to give. He wasn't always this way, but it's been so long since he was anything but the wise old Houngan, no one remembers it.
Umgo'godla likes to feel things, and smell things when he's working since he can't see them. He teaches his students by scent and sound and touch alone- they have to follow his directions without the benefit of "this is what it looks like." He thinks eyes can play tricks, and says he doesn't miss his sight.

History: Umgo'godla was a bit of a wild card when he was younger- scratch that he was a huge rake and wildcard. For a while he actually left the pride- and reappeared almost two years later, blind in one eye and anxious to serve the Loa. He doesn't talk about those two years, but the general gossip is that the Loa knew he was supposed to serve them and they brought him back.

Prompt Number: 1
Prompt Response:
Umgo sat and felt the sun rise. It was warm and delicious on his face. He used to sit and feel the sun with his daughter like this.

He still missed her, although she had been gone for years. He worried about her. That argument was the last time he had lost his temper, when she said she wanted to leave the pride and see the world. He had told her she was being a fool, that she was meant to serve the Loa, that she should listen to him because he had done that, when he was younger, and he was speaking from experience. If the Loa required your service, you were meant to stay where you were. There was nothing out there but ungodly heathens who gave no more thought to the Loa then they gave the ground they walked on.

She had gotten angry too. And the last they heard of each other was shouts, and stony silence when she walked away.

He worried about her. He missed her. But he did not regret the argument, or his stance on it. He was too old for regrets. If the Loa let her go, then maybe she could be happy out there.
If not, maybe she would still return. He would wait.

He could tell the sun had risen, and went to speak to his students. There was much to teach them.

Question!: Do you have a preference for believers vs non-believers? Like would it be okay to enter as a character who doesn't believe in the spirits, but who keeps up the act for the benefit of the pride?

@Sarge,
yeah, that'd be fine. XD Uovu, my Poupe, actually secretly doubts the pride's beliefs himself.
A few lions who secretly doubt might keep things interesting. > w>
Keeping up an act is recommended, though, yes. lol
