Starlock
Good to see that, I say. Dont' recognize the author, but then, I haven't been able to make my trips to B&N to read the New Age section books in quite some time. (sniffles) This is a great thread by the way. Kudos to all its participants thus far.

While Starlock may have been posting this in another thread in the guild, it reminded me something I wanted to rant about for a bit.

Why do Pagan books get put in the crappy "New Age" section along with idiotic books like "How to Read People's Minds" and "Love Potions for Teens" (and miscellanious John Edwards books)? I think we deserve to have a little part of the spiritual section like everyone else.

Yes, yes, I know. We're not mainstream enough, and a good many of us like it that way, but when I want to go find a decent book, I don't want to have to wade through several of the stupidest titles I could ever imagine seeing just to find one decent book that MIGHT be worth my time.

*Steps off the soap box* There. I feel better mrgreen

I dn't mind too much because they put the section where I find my Pagan books right next to the Christian stuff. That way, I can scare anyone that looks at me funny. whee

Personally, I was grateful for this.^_^' When I was Wiccan, I was also living in Alabama- it's frequently not a good idea to be looking at Wiccan literature anywhere near sighting range of a hardcore Christian in the Deep South. And usually, if you're going out and buying books to read about your religion, you're pretty into it. At first I was pissed off that we weren't included in the "Religion" section, but then I started to look at it in this way, and realized that it was probably for our own protection- less harassment of the customers that way, on both sides.

At the old bookstore down in Auburn, the "New Age/Occult" section was placed right next to the "Philosophy" section, which was how I originally found it.^_^ I was browsing for a book on Japanese philosophy, found 'A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner instead, and started of on a whole new adventure.

Well my rant is personal and shouldn't even exist but here it goes.

I like my friend Calvin. On Tuesday, my cousin and I went shopping, swiming, and did all the girly girl stuff, which I never do because I have no girl friends close by and I am just not like that. I told her that I like Calvin. I took her to meet him and they got along good (I knew they would). She said that she thought he liked me; I knew he didn't cause I am just so not his type it isn't even funny. We hung out and went out to eat (me, Calvin, my cousin, and her best friends). Yesterday, I told Calvin I like him. He didnt really say anything about it we just kept talking like we usually do. It was no more or less than what I expected. Then last night I got home after dropping one of my other friends off at their house. My mom says to me that my cousin told her mom that she found a guy she really likes... Calvin. I know I have no right to be upset because it doesn't have anything to do with me 'cause he doesn't like me, but still. I told her who I like and then... I feel really shitty, to say the least.

Sorry to waste your time to those of you who read this.

Hey, no, this place is called a ranting pub for a reason!

Emotion is a strong aspect of a person, and should never be discredited. What your cousin did was strange, although not completely rude because she told her mom. However, he she starts making moves on him, then that's completely out of line- she knows you like him, and should give you tiem first if she cares about your feelings and the relationship between you and her.

As for Calvin, he may jsut be having trouble expressing himself. Guys are like that. My boyfriend of 2+ years thought I wasn't his type, either, but now we're like a little ol' married couple. Just give him time and try to be a friend to him. wink

Okay, my turn...

ABSOLUTES ARE CRAP. And that's one of the few absolutes I can almost entirely stick by, because there's an exception to it: change. There's just about always an exception to everything except change (and even then, I'm not sure!).

This comes after talking to a well-speaking aetheist who said something could only be one way or the other. Oh lets think, perhaps there's a concept in between called, oh, I dunno, a compromise. And seriously, if there is a divine, why couldn't it be both? It is the divine, which is beyond (just about) every normal mortal's comprehension. In my faith, it is both male and female; it is both dark and light; is the combination of all.

So damn it, don't tell me, when it comes to spirituality, that I can't have my cake and eat it to! domokun

Rawr, sorry, that pisses me off... obviously. sweatdrop

Wow. My post seemed to open this place up for everyone's griefs to flow into. Maybe it's a time of year where everyone is feeling pretty bad ninja

Gaarako - What your cousin did was NOT right. There are unwritten rules about this and the time she took between you telling her you like the guy and asking the guy out was NOT an appropriate time frame and you have the right to be angry, but you should talk to her about it first before getting too angry. HE may have asked HER out... but she still could have said no sweatdrop

Jameta - There are always going to be people who refuse to compromise in any way, shape or form (trust me... I roomed with a guy liek this last year at college). I really don't like people who can't ever COMPROMISE, but these aren't people we can easily help see the beauty of compromise. We just have to be patient and hope they have an enlightening moment somewhere along the line and realize that compromising can be very helpful during so many times in life surprised

Heh. I rejected about 5 others before deciding on that one. They all started with "Sacred Sources: Tolerating the intolerable" but the ending changed each time ninja

My turn!

Okay, what is up with all the morons on Gaia? These people have no regard for the basic rules of spelling, grammer, or punctuation! It's not that hard to write 'you' instead of 'u' or 'girlfriend/boyfriend' instead of 'g/f' or 'b/f'! It's okay to do it when you're PMing your friends. But all over Gaia?

Earlier, Facelift, Overkill Chibi, and myself were involved in a long debate with several people about how they are making themselves stupider for not applying the little effort it takes to spell correctly. I just don't get it.

Why in the world do they want to make themselves look stupid? The fact that we even have a written language and that we have the internet in which we can share our thoughts in this language with others, speaks volumes of human intelligence. And what do they do? They butcher our language and use the internet for porn, spam, and cybering.

I don't have any problems with porn or cybering (SPAM and pop-ups are just annoying as hell), but they should at least keep it to instant messengers like AIM, MSN, or Yahoo where other people will not have to see it if they don't want to. They're like exhibitionists or something. Gah!

I'm not sex-ophobic or anything. Quite the contrary. I love it. My boyfriend is a Wiccan too, and we both get more out of the experience than physical pleasure. Sexual energy is the most powerful, and we know that, he told me that actually. But these people are sharing no emotional or spiritual connection when they talk to a random stranger. They are robbing themselves of the true meaning of the experience. It's sickening.

Gah. I guess that's all I really wanted to say. Also, I wanted to say this:

I haven't had sex in exactly 6 months and four weeks. If I can go that long without succumbing to my desires and asking strangers for sexual favors, I know they can. So why do they do it? I can't understand how they can be so weak and stupid.

I think the stupid speech is good, though. How else would we know who the idiots are and how to avoid them? They pretty much put a sign on their own back saying "I'm not smart enough to socialize with, so please ignore me."

Well put. But just watching that kind of speech can be grating.
