Suddenly, things started happening far too quickly. Nuria snarled at the attack, joining Ute and Moto'spaki in a wall of Firekin between Roho and her intended target. "The Regents will decide his fate, and as far as I am aware you are not one of the Regents," she growled, as much to Teketeza and Ukuba as to Roho. She fixed Thabiti with a glare, a cold fire blazing in those sapphire eyes. "Firekin will guard him, and the rest of you." She counted the Hongshan that had joined them as Firekin, now--while they were not the same sort of Firekin as those of the Blood, they were Firekin nonetheless. "And until the Regents say othewise, not a claw laid on any of you--including him--without need."

The monstrous looking lion hardly flinched as Roho ran towards him. It was hard to tell if he had simply expected someone to intervene- or if he had been willing to take the blow after all. As she was tackled down to the ground, he continued to observe her curiously. "Indeed, safe among friends," he intoned in response to one of the lionesses. As the agitated creature continued to struggle against her restrainers, he casually looked aside. Like one might avert their eyes from looking upon something distasteful.
Thabiti had been quick to start throwing suggestions to the firekin. Miah made a noise that probably should have been a laugh, but it came out more like an odd grunt. "You will watch but not act on your own? Did you suspect we were being followed, and feared to attack me? You Hongshan have had plenty time to turn the tables on a lone Nergui spy."
"But you waited until you have already completed my task- if it was my task at all. We are here with the other Hongshan. Seemingly, exactly what one with such quick suspicions would want to avoid." His head shook. "And if I was a Nergui, threatening torture simply displays a general lack of understanding on how they work. And of me."
Somewhere in between this, Hraga was getting the sense that this situation was getting way out of hand. Even Tarsa was still seeing red. The young guard furrowed his brow, and took a few cautious steps backwards. "I...I'll try and contact them!" He said. The south post was almost a half day's trip, but maybe they were already on their way back... "I'll be back!"
As the guard left, tearing off down the sand, Miah continued his slow, oddly polite speech. These two lionesses, Kinja and Ute, seemed to be the most concerned about the general atmosphere of the group. Yet, he didn't seem particularly partial to them either. "I do not see what purpose such questions will be. If I am a spy, then my job has already been accomplished. I have brought the Hongshan to the group. Perhaps one of them is a betrayer, or perhaps it is just me," he said. "Either way. I am curious what questions might be asked. Am I nergui, what is my purpose? Wasted questions if my job is already done."
But to that effect, he stood up, seemingly to follow. Again his eyes fell back on Roho.

Soleil watched Hraga go, her white ears folded back for a moment. Then she turned, glaring at Miah. "You'd better have some sort of story prepared before they get here..." She then stopped, huffing at Kinja. There was no malice in the huff, though - She held no ill-will toward this lioness who was damn well as old as her grandfather, yet seemed to be spry as her mother's mother. "Aw, but if he's away from the others, we can pick out if someone's getting nervous and question them, too!" It made sense to her, at least.
Keahilani rolled his eyes, then gave a seemingly half-hearted swat at the group of new arrivals. "Kinja says nobody's being separated, then nobody's being separated! Come on, all of you, move it! The sooner we get back to the den areas, the sooner we can avoid the next sand storm!" He hadn't missed the signs, and he imagined everybody else noticed - The wind was trying to pick up. Whether it succeeded or not, he didn't WANT to find out - The last place he wanted to be during a sandstorm was out in the open.

"Either he's Nergui, or he has some death wish." Kalama spoke up, having made her way back around the front to see what had just happened. She was a little disappointed she hadn't been able to tackle down Roho herself, because though it wasn't a fight, it was some action.
As for her statement, it just seemed... dumb. Why would anyone else be so irritating, if he were actually a lion being wrongly accused? As far as she could tell, this was just some very stupid lion, who thought he was clever enough to toy with the Firekin, or he really was who Roho said he was and was trying to throw them off track. Or both. Maybe he was a Nergui and also had a death wish, seemed possible.
... It just didn't seem like a random rogue would go through all this trouble, playing the good Samaritan and then seeming so... unperturbed by accusations.
Spaki was somewhat happy he was joined by others, because at least he was certain he hadn't simply acted on his own, and had no support. Besides, with Roho being a Hongshan, knocking her over like that might have led the other Hongshan to react against him. The white lion was strong, large, and a good fighter, but he highly doubted he would do well against too many opponents.
When Kinja spoke, he didn't completely agree with her. He kept his tone even when he spoke, out of respect. "I'm not sure it would be wise to keep him together with the others. None of them seem very... ah, pleased with him right now, and we might risk a fight breaking out among them." He stated his opinion, but didn't attempt to give any definitive order, since Spaki wasn't exactly a well known, authoritative figure. He just thought it was something to consider.
--
Tswana hissed when Miah spoke, because it irritated her that he was so calm. Shouldn't he be trying to explain what had happened? Shouldn't he be at all nervous, considering it seemed everyone wanted to kill him? And she was also a little sad, because without Miah, they'd still be stuck with the Nergui, or dead. So his apparent betrayal struck her. Like Thabiti she had never fully trusted him, but... Well, there had been some trust involved.
Then she heard something that one of the firekin said, and became aware of the rest of the world. "Thabiti, sra reum ek resrs." Thabiti, the lion is right. She said, referring to Keahilani. "Tra vemd... es'k mus o suud kesm. " The wind... it's not a good sign. They needed to sort this out, at least sort it well enough so they could find shelter. The group had been through a lot, and they could deal with Miah another time, so long as he was kept 'in custody', so to speak. Sandstorms, however, waited for no one.

It was clear that very little of what Ukuba was saying was getting through, which frustrated him to no end. Why should he make the effort to speak their language if they're not even willing to acknowledge it? Frowning deeply, he turned to his fellow Hongshan and shook his head. "I ok duma sraeems su cukkimecosa vesr sraka baoksk" I am done trying to communicate with these beasts. Although some of Firekin were civil enough, others were clearly very volatile. As much as it displeased him, the red and black lion couldn't predict how things were going to play out.
As the Firekin continued to talk amongst themselves, mostly in regards to Miah, Ukuba joined his brother Isifo at his side. "I sremd va verr ba kuqems kuum. Trae mus su vurrae kae brusrar, aqaraesrems verr ba orresrs" I think we will be moving soon. Try not to worry my brother, everything will be alright. He then looked over each of his fellow Hongshan individually. They were certainly better off here than they were with the Nergui, but only time would tell how much better off they were. Despite all the information he had taken in and even the presence of a familiar face in Roho, he was still uncertain as to whether or not the Hongshan would be allowed to remain here as equals or as slaves.
When the Firekin known as Ute motioned for them to get moving, Ukuba nodded, before offering a small smile in the direction of his group. "Wa verr ba kema" We will be fine.
~~~
Teketeza smirked as things started to escalate. One of the Hongshan that had arrived previously attempted to attack one of the new Hongshan group, who apparently wasn't Hongshan. She was promptly taken down by one of the Firekin closest in proximity to her. If any more proof was needed that this new group was going to be more trouble than it was worth, there it was.
The hulking grey male sneered as Ute tried to organise things. "Just because you are directly related to the Regents, doesn't mean that you're better than the rest of us Ute. Rest assured that I WILL be taking this up with the Regents. We don't even have enough resources to sustain ourselves, let alone these weaklings. If you're too stupid to see that, then you have no more right to stay here than these 'invaders' do." With that, Teketeza took a few steps back to allow the group to pass. For now, he would just have to let it go. If he had his way though, all Hongshan would be forced to leave the Firekin territory. Or killed.
The intervention was not completely unexpected, but being thrown off target and then pressed to the sand by (what felt like) many heavy paws still knocked the breath from her. She struggled against her restraint for a brief moment and then, realising she had no chance of escape, fell still. She heard Moto’spaki yelling about it not being her place and then other growls; both distant and loud. Many were shouting, some at one another and some at her, and then the paws were gone and she pulled herself up onto her paws, taking a staggering step back. She didn’t think she’d been wounded but perhaps physical pain would have taken her mind off of what was going on here. She started to shake, though why, she wasn’t quite sure. Anger? Fear? Grief? Shock? Perhaps one of those. Perhaps all of them. Around her conversation was flooding but she heard none of it. Her eyes were back on Miah, watching him as if she fully expected him to just break away now or perhaps lunge and fight. He got to his paws and her body jerked in response; as if to lunge. Thankfully she seemed to be able to resist the instinct, though she curled a lip to lay bare her teeth. He couldn’t be trusted. The way he spoke; so confident and calculated. She could feel the treachery in the air and the very idea of him being kept with the Hongshan seemed utterly ridiculous. “If you’re going to go ahead with this foolishness.” She snapped. “Listen to him.” She indicated Spaki with a low growl. She would hold no grudge towards him. He had done what he had thought was right just as she had. Besides, she did not want her family being kept locked up with that Nergui. “The Nergui should be kept in solitary confinement.” Her eyes flashed to Teketeza, but her anger was curbed by her sudden fear of what her actions may have done. She had wanted to stop the Nergui, not give her own people a bad name. She just wanted all the fear and the suffering to go. “You think getting rid of the Hongshan will save you from the forces that gather?” She replied. “We are but a small number in a huge pride and the Nergui are not picky. They will come and they will destroy whether we are here or not. The only difference is that we’ve fought them. We know them. You do not.” She felt her rage gathering. Very little could inspire such passion in Roho, but this topic never failed to get a reaction in her. “Weak, are we? Weak?! We fought with fang and claw. We fought for our lives. We were captured. Tortured. Enslaved. Yet, here we stand. Here we stand.” And she stamped a paw against the sand. “If that is weakness, then what is strength? You with your pompous attitude who has never even seen a true battle before?” She gave a bark of angry, bitter laughter and threw her eyes about the crowd. If they wanted to invite the monster into their domain, then so be it. The consequences lay with them. “Do what you will. Just don’t forget that I warned you.” And then, to the Hongshan, she turned and gave them a rueful look. “Apologies for this, my friends. I will do what I can to see this resolved.” She would find Nawvlee. He would know what to do. And, with a harsh breath, she turned and moved back towards the pride, a slight limp to her step from where she had been pinned only moments before.
"Happy or not with him I doubt that anyone will start any fights right now. If things start getting out of hand once we are all back amongst the rocks, then we can consider separating him. For now though, it'll be simplier for us to leave them together."
With Ute's persistence, the group finally began to make its move to the main pride area. The shifting winds made getting back more of an urgency than a priority. She did not take kindly though to those that were beginning to show more hostility than was desired in the situation, especially when such hostility was towards other pride members.
Watching Roho say a few choice words to Teketeza and running off Kinja made, Kinja walked up to Teketeza as the group moved past him. "Feel free to take this up with the Regents Teketeza. I will make sure, myself, that Ute is praised for the calm and decisive work she did here while you are berated for your lack hospitality and unwillingness to work with the pride. Whether the Hongshan stay or go is NOT your responsibility. Kidondo and No are the ones who will make the decision with their council." Kinja's blue eyes bore into Teketeza. Should Kinja have feared Teketeza? Maybe, but at that moment her only prerogative was to make sure everyone, pride members and visitors, were safe.
Giving Teketeza one last look Kinja turned away from him, flicking her tail in the process as she picked up the back end of the group to make sure no one ran or that no tempermental Firekin would cause any problems. Letting the anger at Teketeza fade from her body Kinja sighed and spoke to the Hongshan in front of her. "I apologize for some of the pride members. We are a hot blooded pride and some are more volatile than others."
Ute smiled lightly, happy that they were moving forward with this. Until Teketeza spoke to her. She turned to him, her chest forward and her icy blue eyes staring him down at him as Kinja spoke. "I will do as my Regents desire." She said simply, leading the group along through the sands, past him and with honor. That and the fact that Kinja had stood up for her; and she felt good about that.
"Thank you... for helping everyone." She said looking to those who were assisting with the protection of the strangers. Her voice was honest... When they got farther away from ear shot, she looked to Kinja and gave her a smile. She would thank her later. She looked to the Hogoshan as they walked. "I welcome you to the "Motoujamii-Simo Lands." She said softly.
As she passed him, Soleil swatted Teketeza with her tail. "Dear brother-cousin, I'd LOVE to sink my claws into the bone-face as much as you... But even I know there's a place and a time. Would you want the whole pride tearing you apart?" Indeed, as much as she herself would have loved to uphold her familial pride with ferocity, she didn't want to ruin it by shaming herself. She then turned, guarding a flank of the Hongshan group.
Bringing up the rear, Keahilani could only narrow his eyes. He wasn't actually GLARING at anyone... It was more to keep any sand out. He only spared a glance at Teketeza, raising an eyebrow, before going back to paying attention to staying in step with Kinja beside him. No more words were spared from the black and white lion.
It seemed all Miah had to say had been said. After all, there were far more interesting pridal disputes at hand! It seemed the Hongshan had not made themselves as welcome as they might have liked. A fact that he wasn't particularly surprised by- after all, they had been pretty fast to throw him down a ravine a few moments earlier.
And perhaps he could. Strange things are said of Nergui.
Whether or not Miah was satisfied with these turn of events was hard to say. He certainly didn't seem hurt- but he didn't seem particularly pleased either. He didn't look like a spy who had accomplished his task, nor a martyr who had been turned on by his friends. He simply seemed... detached. Like this was a study, and at any time he could simply vanish into the earth itself.
As Teketeza passed by, Tarsa gave him a gruff but approving nod. While the grey lion's opinions might not have been considered particularly popular, it was clear that they hadn't fallen on deaf ears. These Hongshan were trouble. Sure they were good warriors, but firekin bred warriors by the dozen.
Did they really need them?
[ OOC NOTE THING: ]
Okay, so you guys are pretty much the most awesome things ever. <33 As a result, I'm actually going to change things up a little bit!
Our current plan is to end this RP, and start up a part II on Monday! Why are we doing this?
- The break will give people a chance to 'reposition' characters. We will kick off about two or three hours IC time from this spot. - The break will also allow new people to jump in. - And on paper, it works better for pacing anyways.
Prizes!
Since I have two firekin girls to give out, I will be rolling one raffle here, and the next raffle in part 2! But wait, there's mooore. [ooh, aaaaah]
You may have noticed some Hongshan were marked as NPC. I will be going through this RP and picking winners for the two Hongshan NPC characters! They have some plot info with them that'll be inclosed in their PM. In the event I can't choose, I'll do a second raffle. Quote: Finally, since we're making a short break I can also involve a few more people in the secondary group. If you have a lion who was not present for the events in this thread, and wish to RP them in the next, send me a PM! If you have any closing posts, feel free to keep writing them! I'll be making Part II of this RP this coming up Monday!
