Titaia listened to her fathers explanation intentively as she gazed at the lions digging at the holes. "Oh..." She replied just before her father bellowed at her sister. She jumped slightly from surprise and quickly shifted her gaze to watch her sister run back to them and almost get swept away. She scoffed at her sister and shook her head a little ashamed by her sisters moves. Such clumsy moves were embarrassing to Titaia. She really didn't want to be seen with Kiun right now for that manuever.

When she heard her mothers voice Titaia turned her head towards her and perked her ears up. "Hi Mom!" She replied. When her mother asked about their other siblings Titaia looked over at her other siblings and then back to her mother. "I don't know mom. I haven't seen them."

[ <33 Apologies for the delay. ]

Rainfall Level: Heavy

They might not have been in a battle, but it was certainly feeling like one. With the rain continuing to steadily increase, the pools were filling at a faster rate. But to their credit, they hadn't lost any more trenches to flooding. That was a good sign. If this plan pulled off, the desert would be something to see come morning.

Hraga turned his head, catching a comment directed to him. "I don't think we can do much more with breaking ground at this point. Just keep the trenches we have stable. It looks like we're doing a better job keeping them together now. If we keep it up, hopefully by morning we'll-"

There was another crack of lighting, this time visible across the darkened night sky. It lit up the terrain from all sides, even out across the desert...if only for a brief instant. And in that instant, it became very clear they weren't alone.

Hraga squinted his eyes, but the flash was gone. He'd seen shapes in the distance- shapes that didn't look like any lion. He turned his head to the others. "Did anyone see that?"

arrow The next five people: Roll a dice, 1-5!:

The amount determines how good of a look you got. IE; 1 you barely saw it. For a 4-5, you could clearly make out the shapes of five non-lions, running across the ridges.

The first person to get 5 will also remember seeing them carrying something- if only for an instant.

If no one can roll a five within the five rolls, the object is not seen...

The object goes unseeeeen!

User ImageEld had been focused on keeping his trench from overflowing, but he did see movement when the lighting made night into day for a heartbeat. He wasn't looking directly at the moving creatures and didn't get a very good look at all.

"I saw something," he said, "I think there was more than one of them. Not lions, right?"

He couldn't be sure from what he had seen, but there had been more than one silhouette moving. Hopefully someone else would have looked in the right direction at the right moment. He looked down at his trench, and then back into the black night.

Azar had focused on digging holes, she was getting into at the moment. Her attention was pretty dedicated however once she felt one was good enough she started to go to another. As she did she looked up, and then the crash of thunder. As she looked up she could see clearly in the distance figures running. Were those five lions part of the pride. "I saw it!" She called back to her brother.

Arevik looked around, eyes wide. "J-just barely... I only saw something move!" She shrank down, beginning to quiver. "Hraga, it's flooding, the area is flooding! Shouldn't we get the cubs and infirm to higher ground?!" And what WERE those things that they'd seen? Her mind went back to the cubs. "Where ARE all the cubs...?!" She looked around wildly, rain water flying off her ears and face as she turned this way and that. There were multiple litters, sleeping in multiple places... Were they safe from these mysterious things?

(( f*cking perception checks xD ))

The crack of lightning drew Morag's attention and she pulled herself out of the trench she'd been digging, her eyes unfortunately turned the wrong way to see anything but rain and digging pridemembers. The words 'did you see that?' set her immediately on edge and all joy and playfulness dropped from her, leaving her looking intent and dangerous. This night was too good a chance for someone to try something, she wouldn't overlook any hint that there might be trouble.

"What did you see?" She said urgently as she moved closer. Turning, she called a few lions to her, mixing guards and soldiers with her own watchers. It would be foolish to leave the pride unguarded, but they needed a decent group to go investigate.

Huozin had been as surprised as anyone when the rain started and his first priority had been to make sure that if there was any meat being stored, that it either moved out of the way of a soaking or into someone's mouth - preferably some cubs to keep them quiet and more easily manageable.

Having done that, he joined the increasingly large group that Hraga was directing. As he came over through the pelting rain, he stopped and looked up for a moment in shock as the sky lit up nearly as bright as day. There! Along the ridges were five non-lion silhouettes!

"Five," the red lion heard himself reporting. "Five non-lions on the ridge." His eyes narrowed as he realized what he'd said. This could be...interesting.

[ I won't limit it to four since its part of the event, but feel free to organize! <33
Everyone is free to have their able characters head off, since most of the plot will be there! ]

Hraga couldn't help but feel a sense of...forboding about it all. The pouring rain was hard enough on their backs without wondering about shadows moving out in the desert. He furrowed his brow, and looked to Morag. "You'd better take a group to go investigate."

"Everyone else," the black lion instructed. "We'll keep up with the digging. Lets not lose another well!"

Glad to have any excuse not to participate in this ritual shaming that was occurring, Elcca scrambled out of one of the muddy pits and staggered off towards the group setting out. "Protecting the pride is of the highest importance to me," she said flatly not even bothering to oversell it.

Also joining the group: Veru. He might not have been a fighter, but he was a tracker. "Without light, we'll need to be careful. I do recall us digging trenches all yesterday out in the desert, after all."

Kosuke furrowed his brow, frowning, then looked to Shula. "Stay here, I'll go with them." He licked her forehead, momentarily clearing rain water. Then it was back again. The red male then turned, hurrying to meet the others to move out and check out the shapes. When he reached his daughter, he looked at her approvingly. "Lead the way, Morag." He was proud of her, there was no lying about that. Morag had been injured in the ambush, and more or less made herself ten times better than she had been before.

The red lioness nodded, then turned and hurried to a spot free of holes and began to dig. "If anybody wants to help me make a very big hole, you'd better come start helping now!" In theory, a big pit of water would make for a LOT of water for later use. It would also create a sink to divert the flood water. What muck she dug out, she used to try and reinforce the wall of the hole she was digging, packing stone into it as she set out a sizable area to work in. She soon became aware of another near by - Pale, green eyed. It was Arevik, distracting herself from her worries. Shula smiled at the younger lioness. "Good work, Arevik!"

Anything to distract her from the cubs.. "When this is done, I'm going to find Kiran! See if he can convince Cousin Ea to start moving cubs!" Not as an order, but a suggestion. The more that were on high ground, together, with able adults near them, the better chance the next generation had to survive. But first they had to stop the flooding before it got bad, and a big hole was looking like a good idea to her.

(( edited my last post. <3 If Mims says thats where the action is, then no need for a limit. xD ))

Morag nodded as Hraga confirmed her desire to go investigate. It was what she did best, after all.

"Good luck with the wells." She said before she turned to watch volunteers gather along with the ones she'd called, nodding to Elcca and Kosuke as they joined.

"Veru, you're a tracker. You should probably take point... you'll know better what to look for than the rest of us do." Despite her penchant for hunting at night when it was cooler, with the weather, Morag was not sure how useful she herself would be in tracking a group like that on the move.

Despite the alarm she felt at having strange non-lions so close to the pride, the spymaster could not deny the rush of adrenaline and joy she felt now that she had a 'mission'. Things like this were probably the parts she loved the most of her job, as odd as that sounded. Let the fighters have their duels and physical conquests... spies were meant for sneaking and discovering hidden things.

The rains were getting heavier. Alya had her gaze upturned into the blackness; the spark of lightning made her eyes flinch, caught off guard by the brightness. She hadn't looked over to catch sight of the figures, but as they were mentioned by others the lioness creased her brow in concern. "I will join you," she said as she neared the spymaster, speaking her first words of the evening only loud enough to be heard.

It would be escape from the digging, at least. The lioness raked her claws through the muddy ground, falling into line behind the spymaster and the tracker as she watched them with bright eyes. Her heart sped, curious of what was to come.

Roihu's trench was holding just fine, and there was more need for him where the others were going. Apparently there were strangers on the lands... but if they were non-lions, could they be Nergui? His fear was developing the creatures into some kind of shape-shifting force. If there was to be a battle, he would have to be there. There weren't too many other medics that he recognized heading out with the trackers and soldiers.

"Hopefully you won't need my skills," he called to the gathering group. "But as a medic, I will be there just in case." Mercifully, Kiberiti had managed to hold tight to his mane this whole time... but the rain was pounding now. He didn't know if the snake would be safe.

User Image"Five?" Eld asked, "Yeah, that sounds about right."

He joined the group that gathered around Morag. The trench he had been watching should be ok, he hoped. Many lions were helping out with the wells so they should have it covered. Investigating the intruders was more important at the moment. And... Well, it was more exciting than digging.

Sneaking about in the thick, wet blackness? That was right up Zjarr's alley. She quickly hauled herself out of the hole she'd been helping with, resisting the urge to shake the heavy mud from her fur. It left her mostly grey in the stormy darkness, save for the glimmer of white down her back that shimmered wetly. She padded carefully across the slimed ground to join the gathered group. She kept quiet, but her eyes and ears were active. She caught Morag's eyes to let her know she was here for duty, but did not interrupt or push herself forward.

The pouring rain made it almost impossible to hear anything at any distance, so she stayed close in order to hear the group organization and commands. She nodded understanding, turning her eyes to the one given point. She arranged herself back a ways, to one side but within sight of Veru and within hearing of Morag. She hadn't forgotten those trenches either. Not only did they have to be cautious about who they met, but the ground under their paws as well. Her red eyes sparked excitedly at the prospect of such a challenge.

Vesta nodded sheepishly. Not to call her Brigadier right now. Okay. She could try and manage that. She could still be respectful and careful without using titles, right? With a small nod, she moved up alongside the larger, dark-pelted female and began to dig with quick, fierce motions. She had been a water-seeker for some time now and this was not the first hole that she had made in the sand.

Meanwhile, Fia was startled at the appearance of another cub - this one just as familiar to her as Mate'moto. Keegan. The daughter of Karana'mzaana. She offered a poor attempt at a smile and watched as the cub introduced herself and the short exchange that followed.

"Keegan can come." She confirmed, giving permission before the cub had accepted - just in case it stalled them. She'd already lingered too long.

And then the commotion.

Her head whipped around, her body twisting so that the two cubs were protected beneath her. "Intruders?" The words rasped out of her tightening throat, panic and anger swelling in her chest. Her heart rate was escalating and suddenly she wanted nothing more than to take off.

Except at that moment Vesta's sharp call of "Fia" distracted her and she froze long enough to realise the mistake before she made it. Trembling in the aftermath of her shock, she gave the cubs a nudge in the direction of Azar and Vesta. "Come on. We have to help dig whilst they go and make sure everything is safe."
