"I'm hoping not the mother," Nisha responded, a little belatedly. "With exposure, these babies don't have much time. We can't afford to fall for the tricks this storm plays on us."
Nisha tried to hide her anger and fear, but she knew her voice was shaking as much as her body. It was hard for her to stay focused and in the present; a struggle to fight the mental regression to the day that shredded her cubhood.
Shaking her head with a fierce snarl, she tried to pick up the scent once more.

Walking to the direction of the mother, she yawned as she was tired and actually wanted to go to bed but kept moving, praying that she would get some luck and find a child. She never knew her trek to the mother would be long, so it would take a while for her.

And then she was gone. Kifu had not even gotten her name, she just had a distinct 'feline' scent. "Good luck," he called out as she sprinted off. She was nice, he'd make sure to ask when the whole family was reunited again.
That left Kifu to his own devices again. She had been distracting enough for him to forget the pain in his paws. He followed the sound to another down stream of water, rinsed off the one with the broken blister, and started fresh again in his hunter. Or search; search was probably a much nicer word for what he was doing.

A sudden gust brought the scent, stronger, to her nostrils. A long, careful sniff and she padded quickly in the direction the scent seemed to be leading, calling a quick, "This way!" to Kifu in case he decided he still wanted to follow.
Her excitement mounted and she tried to contain it; she didn't think she could take another let down if she let herself get carried away.

His new friend called after him. It actually made him grin a bit, and at least she had found something interesting. Kifu had just found more mud; he was pretty certain it was covering most of his snout at this point. With no better ideas, he followed the sound of her voice and scent.
As he drew closer he could pick up on what she was smelling. "I think you may be onto something." It was subtle, but at least it held some sort of promise. "I'm not completely sure what, but it is at least something." He inhaled again, pulling the smell deep into his lungs. If they could just find a trace of the little ones. The longer they were lost, the less likely they were to be found. The feline was excited, this may work.

Continuing with her trek, there were regular animal scents, scents of others that were feline or canine, and genet scent, along with the scent of smoke still hanging in the air. Tonight was going to be a tough one for her, having no luck at all.

Kifu's words lent Nisha extra strength - a much needed boost, as the pads on her paws felt swollen and numb. She used the energy to surge onward, her muscles aching from struggling through the sticking mud.
Oddly, though she didn't know the wild dog very well, she found that his very presence comforted her. She laid her tail across his shoulders in an effort to bolster the feeling, his blindness not even crossing her mind. In all honesty, she had all but forgotten it.
The two trekked on, following a scent that may or may not have actually existed, their pelts' plastered to their frames by mud and rain. It was dismal, that was for sure, but they needed to keep going.

Continuing with her trek, she took each step carefully as she kept watch for any genet children. Step by step, she kept an eye out for anything that could catch her attention. Stopping, a scent surged through her nostrils that was a sign of a child and she quickly raced for it. Finally, she found a little boy and smiled but saw that the wood from a tree above him was about to give out and fall to crush him. "Hurry and run towards me!!" She shouted but it already cracked and began falling and she bounced for the child. "Get down, Boy, get down!!!!" She shouted, loud enough to echo as she laid on the ground with her tail snagged by the fat piece of tree. With a huff, she tugged her tail out and uncurled her paws to see the boy was safe and chuckled. "Good, your safe and unharmed. Now, lets return to your mother, shall we?" She said as she walked with it in one paw, walking back to the mother with three others. Finally with the genet mother and Esther, the medic lioness, she carefully set the child down as she laid down herself and sighed. "I was lucky to find him; he could have died if i had not spotted him and got him in time." She said and huffed as she laid on her side with them, needing to rest a lot for now.

Nisha's ears flicked as voices reached her; it seemed another baby had been found. She dismissed the sounds as she and Kifu continued following the scent trail; she was happy, no doubt, but they seemed to be on to something. She couldn't afford to be distracted.
There were still two babies left.

DraconisSiirexus Congrats! Uncerts will be provided after the game is done. With three babies surrounding her, the mother genet seemed to be much more at ease. She still hissed at anyone trying to get too close, but oddly enough she tolerated Hoku better than the adult lions. Perhaps because the cub were smaller and less threatening. When the green lioness arrived with her white son she growled half-heartedly and mumbled something about lions. She made sure that the green lioness didn't settle too close and that the other large ones also kept a safe distance. The big cats might get hungry later after all...
Viverri didn't think twice about eating baby birds so she assumed that others also saw small helpless things as potential snacks.

The wild dog smiled. The conditions were terrible, but it could be worse. It could be cold. "Um, what's your name...?"
Then there was a bit of excitement sparking up a little ways off. He turned his head around, focusing his ears on what was happening. A lioness, perhaps, and yelling, and then relief. Another baby had been found! There was an odd tree snapping and Kifu wondered if she'd tried to climb it or something else absurd, but it did not actually matter much. "I wonder how many there are left." He turned back to his companion, "We'll find one if there is any left to be found. We have two noses working together, that should double our chances, right?"

"My name is Nishati."
Nisha was a little surprised at first that Kifu didn't know her name. She had grown up in the pride, and after the day her father died, she felt like everyone was always whispering about her as she passed. She could feel others watching her around the pride, some with pity, some with scorn - as if they thought it was no longer appropriate for her to get so upset during the winter. But this wasn't the time for that. She shook her head, forcing her thoughts back to finding the babies. They needed her to have a clear head.
She turned her head and swiveled her closest ear toward the commotion of another baby being found, listening for a moment only to ensure that the voices were happy or relieved. Some sort of emotion to signify that it was found alive. "If I've been counting correctly, and heard all of the returns, there should be two left. Double the chances can't possibly hurt."

Kifu perked his head up, even if the wing was making him want to huddle into himself just a little bit, "That's a lovely name, Nishati." He wasn't a pride member, that everyone here had been so friendly, nice, and helpful. He wanted to come back for more festivals, preferably ones that did not end in fire and brimstone and epic rainstorms.
The dog cocked his head at her, “You are a fountain of useful information. I just knew ‘babies’ and ‘missing.’ You actually have a number, that’s awesome.” He bumped his shoulder against her’s, a simple gesture of camaraderie.

Nisha purred quietly at his compliment, a purr which only strengthened as the compliments continued and were ended with a friendly touch. "Most of the searchers leapt into the hunt the moment it started, but I stuck around for a while at the beginning. It may seem callous but at least I was able to learn how many babies were out there."
In truth, it had been hard for Nisha to stand around and listen to the mother's fear. But she had needed more useful information. Unfortunately, she hadn't been able to decipher the mother's frantic speech enough to learn physical traits of the missing babies. She could only wait so long.
Drawing air over her tongue, she thought she could smell the genet scent a little stronger, off to the side. She left her tail across Kifu's shoulders - hopefully it would be enough of a signal of where she was headed, and that she wanted him to follow.
[[ These rolls are so much more than frustrating. ]]

((They are spectacularly bad, but that's okay. I'm getting lots of RP practice?))
His eyebrows raised, purring was not something he was used to. Was this lady okay? It was not so cold she should be shivering. Either way, Kifu couldn't take the grin off his face, "Very clever of you. I scampered off straight away," he paused, "after probably terrifying the little genet by taking a big sniff of her."
The tail slipped from his back, for to the side, and Kifu followed, taking in as much air as he could through his nose. It was faint, but definitely genet. Whether it was old or new, Kifu wasn't sure, but anything was worth inspecting at this point.
