((So I'm thinking RP time is about 4pm by now? That sound good to y'all?))
Lumiose City - Café Soleil
The world outside Café Soleil hurried past, the streets becoming rammed with bodies eagerly anticipating the later celebrations. Banners were being hung between rows of trees that lined either side of the main street. Posters and fancy, sometimes flowery, decorations were mounted on the sides of ancient stone and modern buildings. Bright banners and flags flapped in the light breeze. Great floral arrangements were positioned by the gatehouses; fresh flowers tied to a framework that evoked the image of giant pokémon standing guard. Gate 5 played host to flower incarnations of Lucario and Gallade, both towering as tall as buildings.
Foreign trainers were there in force, wearing loose clothes that left many burned under Kalos' summer sun. Plenty of Kalos natives skirted around in colourful robes and improbable outfits, their hair and make-up experimental to say the least. They elicited more than a few curious looks from people unfamiliar with the local custom. Hired security worked side by side with police to ensure trouble was kept to a minimum, mostly striving to avoid pokémon battles erupting between trainers who didn't know any better, or ones who did and said they didn't. The buzz was palpable; even those who planned on ignoring the parade entirely couldn't help but take notice.
And it almost completely passed Zack by. He sat at a café table, nose in his notebook while he wrote out some pages on Pangoro. The last battle had taught him well, and he was sure to keep a record of his new findings for future reference. The bear in question sat in a chair on the verge of buckling, paws laced on the table and his ears down apologetically. After the battle, he had collapsed with Rest, and Zack left him on Route 5. Not long after that, the bear had tracked the trainer down and shadowed him once again.
"There," Zack said, dabbing his pen to paper with a full stop. "'Pangoro are easily angered' stretched into five pages."
Pangoro made a moaning noise halfway between a growl and a yawn. He hung his head and Zack shook his own with a smirk. Even though his pokémon had failed to topple the beast, it had been good battle experience for them. Hazard had jumped ahead in power, and Zack supposed that she would be capable of using Curse and Night Shade by now. Chrysalis didn't gain as much, but had learned Bug Bite. They still needed greater variety in technique. Zack stared at his notebook, studying a blank page. His gym challenge could wait another day; he wanted to spend more time training before he could feel confident in toppling a gym leader.

Luck was on his side once more, it seemed, as a Budew was the first of the pokemon in the flowers to turn its attention to him. Really, catching it was likely to be easy, especially given the pokemon he had ready to go. Benedict took Sir Ricard Lancelot's pokeball in hand and released him in front of the angry looking budew. The pokemon seemed sure of its defense of its territory, up until the moment that a dragonite appeared in front of it, and looked down upon it with a very bored expression...
Sir Ricard let out a loud yawn, and turned his attention to his new trainer briefly. The youth didn't look like much, not at all worth his time. The thought occurred to the dragon type that, perhaps, there were some pokemon in the region he could visit. Or, maybe, he could find one of those pokemon hook-up center? What were they called? 'Daycares'?
The dragonite's wings moved, slowly at first, and then a little faster. Almost impossibly, given the difference in size of its body and its wings, the pokemon began to fly. It rose quickly, and started away. It was fast, faster than it had any dang right to be with how it looked, but Benedict was fast enough to raise his pokeball and return the thing before it managed to escape.
Why did it just... He turned his attention to the Budew, and saw the thing was in shock. He shook off his own surprise, leaving the questions of how to deal with the dragonite's behavior, for later. He remembered hearing something similar once, so maybe he could get the information needed.
Another pokeball flew quickly from his hand, and smacked the budew in the face. It didn't seem in any hurry to react, of course, and, after a moment of tension, the pokeball stopped moving to show that it was caught.
Dragonite's useless... Benedict thought as he knelt down to pick up the ball. Which meant he needed a bit of training with this pokemon before he could be sure of any victories... He could go to Lumiose if he really wanted, challenge that electric gym...
Slowly, reluctantly, Benedict checked the pokedex and saw what it had to say. Budew wasn't weak to bug types, so if he really wanted to start there, he could. But wouldn't that mean he'd need more? At least one more to balance out the fact that he didn't really have a "team" of pokemon ready to fight this?
With a shake of his head, Benedict released his new pokemon to get ready to get acquainted, and to get what training done he could before there was officially no time left in the day for challenging the gym.
