(( I'm an idiot and made a new post instead of editing ))

Baneful rolled 5 12-sided dice: 4, 8, 10, 10, 12 Total: 44 (5-60)

4. A colorful bottle of crushed insect (of course this would be the first thing he'd take)
8. A pouch of sand from the Sahara
10. A forgotten flask of venom (extracted from a snake/spider/etc.) x2
12. A handful of fresh seeds

Liang had no idea what he was actually doing when it came to the art of spore crafting and though he might well have known where to start or what was needed if they were creating say, a diadem or a painting, he had clue what went into creating an effective spore. This meant that when he went around the stores gathering items for his work his choices were generally random and completely based on whims.

The first item he chose was rather obviously insect based, retrieving a bottle of crushed insects to add to his concoction, admiring the sparkling dust of their component parts before choosing a pouch of sand, feeling that grit and powdery materials would be handy towards something which was supposed to be breathed in, these two materials obtained he decided it was important to also make the created spore dangerous, this meant venom, which he gathered up from vials, choosing that harvested from spiders over snakes simply out of personal inclination towards the capacities of the invertebrate world. He picked up two of these just to make sure that the results were very dangerous indeed.

Finally, mingled in with the rest he chose some seeds, not one to underestimate the capacities of Famine's remarkable vines and hoping in the process to cover all his bases.

Miraculously (with occasional disappearing, burying something under the table, and asking several times if anyone had any more blood), Xala somehow had managed to dump a batch of bright, luscious spore cupcakes on the table. It was incredibly tempting to give them a big whiff.

The Elder, as usual, did not look impressed.

Liang was not very hopeful about the mixture he'd produced and when the Elder inspected his efforts with a slightly condescending head shake (he was from Conquest after all) he was all the more determined to try again.

Right. Cupcakes went straight into the bin. How about paincakes? Everybody liked those! The Elder's disapproval deepened and Xala held her mixing bowl out of view while she made another batter.

She needed a flat, very hot rock.

Because no one out here actually had any working equipment besides wood, rocks, and rocks shaped differently from other rocks. After working at a cafe in Towns, she felt like a cavehorse. What she wouldn't give for gleaming steel and working electricity.

Scooping out the thin but fluffy result, she waited for the Elder.

And color her surprised when he gave a reluctant nod. SHE KNEW THIS WOULD WORK OUT. Xala beamed.

Once again he tried arranging his ingredients, varying the amount of each that he used in his test spore. Once again he got the same reaction, a little crestfallen that he'd managed to mess it up again but certainly not deterred.

He tried to vary some other ingredients with a patient sort of determination, fishing out a small notepad from the recesses of his robe and noting the amounts of each as he varied them. It seemed like too much venom made the resulting spore flat and no good.

Still unsuccessful he began apologising every time he called over the Elder only to waste their time.

It was mostly his desire to learn that kept him going, even if his pride said he should probably give it up.

He wasn't cut out for this frankly, it involved too much delicate fear mixing and was a completely different craft from his natural one. What he produced was pretty but also pretty useless.

Xala wandered over to Alva's workbench leaning over the wood and watching him fiddle carefully with the drops of poison and bug parts.

He was kind of, from what she could tell, a huge nerd.

"Whatcha making?"

Liang sighed shallowly. "Mostly a mess." he said. "This is not the sort of thing I'm used to."

The Elder only had to look at his concoction to shake his head.

"I think you're getting close." As close as Xala could tell from the lump of ground powder. Xala smiled at the Elder as he walked by, and once he was past whispered, "You should make what you like."

"What I like?" he said curiously. "I like.." and he picked up the crushed bugs, adding more of them than he had been prior, pouring them into the mixture and then adding the fear. The mixture changed colour and with a puff expanded.

The Elder sniffed it and nodded, giving him an encouraging smile.

He beamed proudly. "It worked!" he said emphatically shaking Xala by the shoulders before realising what a grave violation of Conquest composure this was and instead apologetically brushing her shoulders and gruffly saying as coldly as he could manage. "I mean thank you for your advice."

"Bah," Shik grunted nonetheless as he shrugged his wings, touching hers briefly. "I don't want to deal with little brats. There's work to be done."

But then it was his turn to restrain Shaheen as her eyes flared at the sight of Uttam's approach, looking ready to punch his face more than anything else. The three horsemen had never really seen eye to eye, and Shik had wondered just what his purpose was to join in. He trusted the colony soldier as far as he could throw him.

"The irony of one from Famine Clan not wanting to infect," he drawled. "Innocent. Feh. No-one is innocent, Uttam. Not us, and certainly not your precious little humans. You would do well to forget such a childish notion. But if you must know, the spores are not meant to last long at all, nor are they contagious." Not at this stage, anyway. "This is a test, nothing more, meant to harass the hunters. To remind them that numerous as they are, we are the apex predators."

Uncrossing his arms, Shik made a dismissive motion. "If you aren't here to help, then begone. If you are, I suggest scurrying along before you lose the group."

Ollie had been late, which was wasn't really surprising -- but he managed not to make a scene, not to be loud or to bounce too much off the walls, which was. Instead he stood out of the way, too short to see anything over the heads of the other horseman, bouncing on his heels and wriggling and trying to just get a glimpse between their shoulders.

Nothing. But he could hear their voices anyway. Talk about humans, just about his favorite subject. He bounced all the more, little hops, and once they got instructions, he took off like a shot.

Had he actually listened to what they were saying? maybe one in three words. The important ones, he thought, or at least the interesting ones. He was making a thing. Or, no, there was a thing, and he was feeding the thing. And he was presented with a wealth of options.

It was a seed, in its way, so he took a pouch of sand, the closest he could find to soil. Add a dash of droppings as fertilizer, and that should help it grow strong. Venom, to make it strong. Two vials of human blood, so that their learned their targets.

He hummed, as he worked.

Quote:
pouch of sand, vial of human blood, bag of minipet droppings, flask of venom, vial of human blood
