Karin nodded in delight when Zeus asked if she wanted to play. Her smile grew when she said they could. Karin let go and landed on her own feet, following after Zeus as she began walking away. She followed her out of the library, and into a section of the castle known as the Cloister Wards. Karin has only been in here a few times, sometimes she would go exploring in her and see what sort of neat things she could find. She doesn't fully understand how the magic worked in this place, but she knew it could keep people from dying when they should be dead. Thankfully Karin hasn't experienced dying here. She wondered what it would be like to die though, but not be dead at the same time. The group reached their destination. She looked up to Zeus as she turned around, asking Karin to go set up and get this sparring match started.

Karin nodded. "Okay, get ready for Rinrin's special attack!" She ran off a few feet away, humming as she did so. As she ran, her foot caught onto a shallow part of the ground and she began to fall over. A shadowy portal emerged before and she reached out with her other foot and sank into the shadow. She tried to make it seem like she intended to trip like that, but she wasn't sure if she was convincing enough. But now Karin was no where to be seen, hiding in the shadows of the area. Some bushes rustled slightly as Karin emerged from her shadow portal, deciding to use the greenery to hide her. Alright my friends, come out come out and play! She thought to herself with delight, trying to contain her giggle. Two shadow streaks slid across the grass, each coming out from either side of the bush, intending to strike Zeus from both sides. The shadow streaks rose up and formed humanoid looking familiars, both of them lashing their arms out, intending to wrap around Zeus and hold her in place.

As her familiars moved to trap Zeus, Karin opened her mouth, a black fog rolling out and formed six small clouds that rose up to the air. Karin dove into one of them quickly as they rose up from the bushes. The shadowy clouds hovered towards Zeus, ready to drop small black shards should the familiar succeed in trapping her. The small number of clouds also served as a decoy should Zeus decide to counterattack, and should make it difficult for her to land a hit on Karin.

As they began their journey towards Maldria, Eristelle could not wait to ask Horrin Lambell about the Dragon's Castle. Well, to any of them, really.

She began spouting off wive's tales and legends about the castle, things that would seem trivial or wildly disproven to the denizens of its origin and yet the princess spoke of them as though not believing in such things would be testimount to deliberate blindness.

'So what is the Shadow of the Forerunners? What do you specialize in?' She asked finally. There was still a strong air of excitement about her, different than the 'all-knowing ruler' visage she had a while ago.
Eristelle had realized she had been talking for a while and wanted to give the others a chance to speak.

If they so chose.

She looked to Lumis and her master as well. 'What about you, Lumis?' She asked after Horrin. 'What is your fable, that you would be willing to share? And how did you end up with a nameless master?' She threw a fickle grin at the 'vampire'. Knowing that Lumis was the underling and the woman was the master, she was attempting to get under the woman's skin. Eristelle herself felt herself insulted when the woman refused to speak her name during introductions.
'Perhaps she has bewitched you with some kind of vampire magic?' She laughed at this, likely unaware of how on-the-nose that may be. Yet it was far from her dismissing the thought. When Lumis had accepted her hand, there was a sparkle. Very brief, but Lumis had a genuine look of joy on her face, as if she wasn't used to being treated with respect, or given trust. Eristelle would look to change that now that Lumis has been recognized by her.

Unless it came up again, she actually did not think much more about the properties Lumis' blood showed when she healed Horrin.

Sanura repeated the name. "Shift...." She whispered to herself. She nodded and pulled out a notepad where she scribbled his name along with a quick description of him. As she was doing so some guards came up to them which she ignored completely. She watched Shift interact with them and continued on her notes. "Thank you much." She said as she closed her notebook but as she looked up he was already walking away from her. A smile crossed her face as she watched him. She was sure they'd meet again. She turned the other direction and began to walk away. She still needed food in her system so she could get back to work as soon as possible.

Before Jodan could decide to split up or not, he felt the crowd of people growing tighter, and felt himself beind pushed around. "Ack! Z-Zuki!?" He called out, looking over to her general direction. Through the crowd, he thought he spotted her for a brief moment, seeing her getting pushed around. This crowd was separating them. Jodan struggled with all his might to make his way towards Zuki, reaching out with his left arm, cutting between people, basically walking sideways to get thoguth. Eventually he found himself in a bit of a clearing, but unfortunately, no sign of Zuki anyways. Jodan frantically turned every direction around him, scanning the area for any sign of her. "Zuki?" He called out once more, but no response. His chest tightened. He wondered where she went, and if something happened to her. His eyes fell upon the bag that he had given her, left on the ground. Did she abandon him? No! He mustn't think like that! She doesn't seem like the type that would just ditch him like that after appearing so determined to work with him.

Jodan picked up the bag and slung it over his shoulder, looking around once more. If he could, he would use his Foresight to try and find her, but he didn't want to use this power in such a public area, with so many people around. He hopped up a bit, as the wings appeared at his hips once more, keeping him hovering a few inches off the ground. Even though he gained a bit of height, he still could not find any sign of his newfound companion. He let out a frustrated sigh. Guess he'll have to wait for Amara by the gate like planned. Jodan would still have to buy supplies for them before venturing off.

After a couple hours, Jodan managed to get everything he felt they would need, and made his way towards the Northern gate of Maldria. There he would wait for Amara to get here, and they can start venturing off towards the White Hills.

The young man had made his way out the castle, with a sheet of paper in hand with the top saying The Silver Escort. It was one of the jobs he saw that he figured he could do, and was certain he could carry it out no problem. After all, he did just finish a job involving some other thugs that he took care of. First, he'll need to prepare and get some supplies. Shift made his way towards the marketplace to see what is available and affordable for him. He won't need much, just some small tools and some food, just in case this job takes a while.

He was promptly met with a crowd of people bustling about, crowding stalls and shops, desperate to get their hands on stuff they need. Shift let out a soft sigh, closing his eyes for a moment. Then he heard someone calling out a name. "Zuki?" He could hear the name being called out. Next he saw a young blonde male seeming to hover in the air, rising above the crowd. He looked like he was looking for someone. Was he the one calling out for this person named Zuki? His curiosity was getting the better of him. His eyes became a light shade of blue, glowing slightly, expanding out with hi aura sense. Maybe he can figure out if this Zuki person got kidnapped or something. Based on the young man's expression, he seemed worried, wondering where this Zuki went. Unfortunately, Shift couldn't detect anyone being carried away like they were kidnapped. He watched the blonde for a moment, seeing his drop down to the ground and disappearing within the crowd. By the looks of it, it would appear he is about to head out somewhere. Perhaps Shift could lend his assistance if that is the case. Not for free of course. He doesn't do charity work.

He spread out his aura sense to find the young blonde, and follow him to wherever he was heading, which was the northern gate. Shift kept himself at a distance just in case the boy wasn't heading out. If that was the case, Shift would just go back to the Marketplace and get his supplies, then meet with the one who originally posted the job he took up. However, it seems the boy is waiting for someone. A friend maybe? Or maybe someone who agreed to venture out of Maldria for a job. His curiosity once again got the better of him, and he approached the boy. Upon closer inspection, the boy seemed younger than him, and a bit shorter. Maybe 2 inches shorter? He cleared is throat to get the boy's attention. Normally Shift isn't one who starts engaging a conversation, but he would have to in this scenario to determine what he is doing. "Heading out somewhere?" He spoke. Shift kept it short and simple, but should be pretty clear as to what he was asking.

Jodan gazed out towards the city, keeping an eye out for Amara, hoping she'll pop up soon. He would hate to have to go alone, since the White Hills aren't a particularly safe environment. He was so focused on looking out for Amara that he jumped when he heard a voice speak to him to his left. "EEp!" He yelped, covering his mouth. His face became red with embarrassment as he turned to face someone he wasn't familiar with. The man wore a pale white cloak and had light blonde her, almost white, with deep blue eyes. The cloak was held up by a couple chains it seems. "Y-yeah..." Jodan finally spoke up, trying to slow down his rapid beating in his chest. He let out a sigh and recomposed himself, glancing up to the man again.

"I'm just waiting here.... for a friend." His gaze dozed to the side a bit, as if expecting Amara to be right there. "We were going to head up to the White Hills to gather some materials. You see..." He paused for a moment. "I run a tailor shop and I have a client wanting a dragon scale as part of his outfit he requested. I wanted to fetch some scales myself since I wanted them to be in excellent quality. The scales sold around here seem a bit worn or damaged.... a-and that won't do for the outfit." He rambled.

Jodan stopped himself however, giving the man a nervous smile. "S-sorry, I didn't mean to ramble on like that." He apologized, letting out a light chuckle. "Ummm.... Wh-what are you doing here?"

xxxxxHorrin listened to Eristelle's tales and legends about Dragon's Castle with all the patience he had while studying to be a mage; that is, he tuned out a large portion of her words and began to let his mind drift into anywhere but whatever she was talking about. He did the automatic nod and murmurs to convince the princess that he was listening, and every now and then he would ask for clarification on a certain topic or pose his own opinion of the matter to give the impression that he did care. How did the seemingly ubiquitous nature of black market assassins impact the daily life of the bourgeoisie as they tended to their property values? No, why would nobles concern themselves with the hopes and dreams of commonfolk when the protection of Dragon Castle hinged on an alliance with a kingdom as notorious as Alliran? Yes, supposedly there are three Guardians atop Dragon Castle that direct and order everything, but only choose to talk through a simple elf servant who has been described as milquetoast by everyone who meets him.
xxxxx"So what is the Shadow of the Forerunners?" Eristelle asked excitedly. "What do you specialize in?"
xxxxx"We are a cult, more or less," Horrin said, unexpectedly put on the spot. This woman had spent so much time talking about the history and rumors of Dragon Castle that it was unavoidable for her to want to know about the Guilds, and yet he had not anticipated this turn of events. Now he really did have to pay attention to what she said or asked, and he really did have to give her answers that both benefitted the Guild and gave enough information about himself away without disclosing his true intentions. Crap, he wished he had had enough time for this! It was like a surprise summoning quiz where he did not know what he was supposed to be summoning. Damn her for doing this to him! This was all her fault! No, no...he had to focus now. Focus on the task at hand. "We go around collecting deadly artifacts linked to old gods and permanently sealing them away so no one else stumbles on them by accident. It's a thankless job, kind of like a food tester for an empress, but we're mostly made up of bored socialites and nobles who want to get that adrenaline rush of adventuring without interacting with actual adventurers." He grinned. "As for me, I'm a demonologist. I usually summon slave demons and other abominations - totally subservient, will obey anyone on the survey team - to carry the heavy stuff or die in our place when we think there are traps or curses nearby. It's fine, though, because they just go back to their dimension and I summon them again."
xxxxx"Master Horrin has not been a part of the Shadows for too long," Gremzal added, "but he has a few successful expeditions under his belt. This is, unfortunately, the first expedition to go south the way it did."
xxxxx"I'd rather not talk about it, if it's all the same to you," Horrin hastily pleaded. "I've already got my mind full with how I'm going to have to break the news to their families that their poor children, who were going to grow up to be the next politicians of the world, died to protect the average commonfolk adventurer from blindly summoning a denizen of the otherworld for the Guardians to fight."
xxxxxYeah. Smooth.

xxxxxZeus turned to Liam. "You're referee," she stated flatly.
xxxxx"Mmn," Liam replied through a closed mouth. He was still in the mood to throw a tantrum.
xxxxxZeus shook her head and turned forward to see that Karin had successfully disappeared. Normally, the thundermage would have placed her weapon to the side as a handicap, but the last time she did that Karin had managed to get in a couple of lucky strikes, so this time she would be on her toes and assume she meant business. As if in response to her thoughts, a pair of off-color shadows slid across the blood grass on either side of her. They rose up to form humanoid-looking figures. Six small black clouds rose ominously into the air and approached Zeus, their intentions unknown.
xxxxxNow, Karin had used the humanoid figures before in previous games. They were her standard shadow familiars and would likely be able to morph to whatever the girl wanted them to be. Humanoid now, penetrating spears or bulwarks later. The clouds were a new spell and would have to be watched more carefully.
xxxxxThe humanoid figures lashed out with their arms in sweeping motions. Zeus jumped backward and swung Ixiom in a wide arc before her, drawing a line of lightning with the tip. The figures would likely just jump over it or even not be affected by it, but that was the point. Karin had acted first, taking the initiative and forcing Zeus to react. Now that Zeus had reacted, it was up to Karin to either act or react. And that line of lightning would be Zeus taking the initiative and forcing Karin to react to that.

Perhaps it was a mistake he began interacting with this guy. He kept on rambling. The expression Shift held on his face was of mild annoyance. Is he always like this? No... maybe he's just nervous? He thought to himself. He didn't think he would initially startle him, but it makes sense if he didn't make his presence known sooner, or from a distance. The man quickly apologized for rambling like he did, then asked what he was doing here. "I was curious is all. Heard you were calling out for someone." He spoke quickly. Shift closed his eyes for a moment, pondering whether he should head on his to do the job he originally was going to do, or to help this young blonde with his quest. The White Hills are known to be pretty dangerous, with many hostile creatures lurking about. Most specifically... the dragons. The young man doesn't like much of a fighter, despite the small stick he had attached to his belt? He wondered what he plans to do with that, if it's even a weapon.

Even if he were to go with this young man to the Hills, there's no guarantee he'll get paid, considering he said he was going with some friends. But who knows how long he'll be waiting here for them. He let out a sigh. "If you need any help... I can come along..." He paused for a moment, glancing to the side. "But I do require payment, otherwise it's no deal." This way, he can decide which job he'll take on. "By the way, I go by the name Shift." He stated as well. He might as well introduce himself now.

Karin noticed that Lady Zeus decided to keep her weapon on her. This was going to be real fun now! Karin couldn't help but feel joy well up inside her. Her grin spread from cheek to cheek, letting out a light giggle. She quickly covered her mouth, hoping Zeus didn't hear her. If she did, she would likely know which cloud Karin hid in. Her familiars struck out, but were met with a wide arc slash from the Ixiom weapon, leaving a streak of lighting in its wake. The familiar let out a quick shriek as they flinched and retreated slightly, then ducked down and continued their advance on Zeus, sliding along the ground. As they got close, they released several spikes on either of her, attempting to limit her movement. From the black clouds that hovered above, small black shards began to fall from them, looking like black rain. They would pelt Zeus if they hit, and possibly leave a few cuts on her.

What is with this guy? He doesn't seem too happy in the slightest! Then again, maybe he was annoyed by his rambling. Jodan's face became a bit flushed from being embarrassed. Even though he doesn't know the guy, it seems he's already annoyed him. He glanced down, trying avoid the man's gaze. But then, to his surprise, the man offered his help. For a price it seems. "Oh... r-really?" He exclaimed as he looked back to the man, who now introduced himself as Shift. "Oh! Guess I should tell you my name as well... My name is Jodan Kurofwodo. I-It's nice to meet you." He would greatly appreciate some more help, however he wondered about the payment. He's already agreed to pay Zuki for coming along, but it seems like she's gone missing. And it seems Amara would have come along as well without payment, aside from maybe a new dress. But it's been a couple hours now and neither of those two in sight! His heart sank a bit, feeling like maybe he got abandoned. He was trying not to think badly of either of them, especially with Amara. But Amara was acting strangely it seemed, and had run off to her home. But maybe she didn't want to come along? Despite seeming so eager.

Jodan took a deep breath, trying to keep his emotions in check. He wasn't sure he can fully trust this man, but it does seem like the only help he can get now. "I think that can be done. I may not have much for payment, but how does..... 250 copper coins sound?" He offered Shift. Jodan hoped he would accept this. If he does, then he'll at least have someone with him along for the journey.

"Hmmm...." Shift pondered the offer for a moment. It doesn't sound like a bad deal, and it's realistically more than what he'd get paid if he took the job he was originally going to do. If he had his math right, 10 copper would equal 1 silver coin. He looked to Jodan, as he had introduced himself as, and gave him a nod. "Very well, I shall accept your payment." He finally answered. His eyes fell upon the bags that Jodan carried, and pointed to them. "What do you have for supplies?" He questioned. "And perhaps I should carry one of them if I'm to accompany you on this quest."

Jodan's face beamed with excitement upon hearing Shift would accept his payment. "Really?" He exclaimed, quickly covering his mouth. "Sorry, didn't mean to be so loud. Heh heh." He gave a light giggle, scratching the back of his head. Then came the question of what he has for supplies. "Oh! That might be a good idea for you to know what we'll have." Jodan dropped the bags to the ground at his feet and began digging stuff out.

"So first we have... some rope, just in case we need it. Some blankets for warmth. Got some matches to start a fire when we need it. Some knives for eating and preparing food. I believe that's all we'll need. I also brought some cloaks when we're traveling through the Hills. As well as some bandages and some medicines if we ever need it."

Ichka listened inquisitively. Horrin looked nervous. She could smell the chemical change in his body. They look for artifacts....and seals them? It was clear for anyone who traveled around this place was perspicaciously looking for ancient relics of the sort. Her mission would be compromised if he got to her treasure before she did. The vampire made a note of the power he claimed to possess. After all summoning demons was always dangerous. She knew that first hand.

Ichka chuckled at the response his little creature gave. It seemed that her servant wasn't the only clod. His was just as chatty. Horrin didn't miss a beat he quickly cut his slave off and made a story to explain the circumstance. A dark Aura began to hover.

It didn't take long before the princess sent her questions towards Lumis. She simply smiled at the comment the girl added towards the end. "If you must Know princess, I found her and took her in. She is like my daughter and I would do anything to keep her safe." Her voice was matter of fact. She then turned towards Horrin. "Sounds like you have a miserable job.... and yet you tell this tale as if...." She pointed at the chest they carried. " Could that possibly contain the menace you speak of...?" She smiled and contemplated on the thought, "But you also seemed to be running from something. Almost as if you..had stolen something and you were being chased? Surely if the menace had been sealed then everything should be fine...correct?

The dark aura began to thicken. Ichka did not like the feeling. Her eyes squinted past Horrin and the Princess. "Lumis." Her voice was stern. "We Are Leaving." They had something to pursue and whatever trouble Horrin had gotten into was definitely closing in on them. Ichka smiled at the princess. "Hopefully we meet again, sorry for this abrupt departure, but I have just remembered we have something important to attend to." Ichka nodded towards Lumis. Lumis came forward and apologized as well."I am sure we will meet again Eri-" Lumis was cut off. "Hurry Lumis we have no time to waste." The vampire had already began to stray from the group. Lumis quickly followed behind. "We'll meet again real soon" Ichka chuckled as Lumis caught up to her.

As soon as Bao Ming and Min Ya made it off the ship from Mazu Island, they had found themselves traveling alongside a chatty trader returning to his home city of Maldria. This hadn't exactly been a part of the plan, but Bao Ming couldn't pry his sister from the old man's side and he bitterly had to accept he had no better start than the city. Baston sounded far more interesting, but Maldria, he learned from snippets of the old man's tales, had a reliable source of income for penniless travelers like themselves. The famous Reptile... Coliseum. Or something like that. Bao Ming honestly stopped listening when the guy brought up his grandchildren. He didn't even register the man was leaving until Min Ya was exaggeratively waving good-bye. He said a halfhearted farewell of his own before joining his littermate in taking in the city.

"The day's practically over. I guess the search will have to wait for now." Min Ya commented cheerfully with a shrug. Bao Ming couldn't help mirroring that same apathy to the situation. He wasn't in a real rush to find the missing seal skin--actually, he thought it would be quite interesting to see what would happen if it were, say, turned into jerky before they found it. He hadn't read or heard of anyone doing some basic research into the properties of selkie skins. As he pondered this, he completely missed the puffed up furball hiding at his feet as his cat took in the market. One dropped hat from a rushed civilian had the feline dashing under a nearby stall with a hiss, startling the both of them.

"Oh, no, Newt...!" Min Ya covered her mouth and gave a questioning look to Bao Ming. The man had a hand to his chest in a silly attempt to calm his heart. He took a breath to recollect himself, shooting a dirty look at the table the cat had curled itself under.

"Nevermind him." Bao Ming said slowly, but he kept his eyes on the cat to make sure it didn't get into trouble with the shopkeep. "We should prioritize meeting our basic needs first." That meant finding a temporary home while they were in the city and a source of income. Hopefully the former wouldn't be too hard, though the late hour was concerning. Still, they could just break into some empty house or store until they had everything figured out. "We should find.. What was it? Lizard Fort? Turtle Palace? Crocodile... Keep?" His brow creased--it was famous, he knew that. Min Ya shrugged at him and he let out a disappointed huff. "It's a place where we can earn money."

"Ooooh. That sounds great!" Bao Ming narrowed his eyes. She said that like she didn't know what he was talking about, despite having just heard the old trader tell them about it earlier. Before he could question her further, she clapped her hands together decisively and turned to shout at no one in particular, "Excuse me! Do you know where to find the Turtle Palace?" A few people stopped to glance at the young lady with shock and displeasure, making Bao Ming purse his lips and pointedly turn away. At least they wouldn't be in this city for long.
