Damask

Needle:80/12 H Thread: Cotton or polyester Special Notes: History of the Fabric: Damask has been traced as early as the Tang Dynasty, but it's name comes from the Syrian city of Damascus. We know it entered Europe through the Middle East and Byzantine Empire. Meaning that this fabric was avaliable during the Middle Ages.

Needle: 90/14 and 100/16 Thread: Polyester Special Notes: History of the Fabric: Demin started it's use in the mid 19th century. It was in 1873 that demin became the pants that we all know and love. During the 20th century it was a popular material for uniforms as it helped to protect the legs of workers. It wasn't until the 1970s till demin became part of everyday life.

Faux Fur
Uses: Deco pieces, shawls, sleeves Pre-Wash: No Needle:80/12 H for flexible fur backing, 90/14 for stiffer backing. Thread: Polyester or cotton Special Notes: Other Names/Types include: Sherpa History of the Fabric: Fake or Faux Fur was invented in 1929 as an alternative to real fur which was becoming unpopular due to the killing of animals. The first fake fur options were made from the hair of alaphas.

Special Notes: History of the Fabric: One of the oldest fabrics known and the earliest evidence dates back to 6500 BCE to Turkey. The fabric is even featured in Sumerian Mythology. Felt is originally made from wool and the earliest record can be traced to Sumerian legend. Because of this it's origin most likely goes further back. In the 18th and 19th centuries it was used as material for gentlemen's top hats.

Gabardine
Composition: Uses: Coats, jackets, pants, straight skits, loose shirts. Pre-Wash: Hand washed in tub if wool, otherwise dry clean. Needle: 80/12 H Thread: Silk, cotton, or polyester. Special Notes: History of the Fabric: The fabric was invented in the 15th century and the name was earned in 16th century.
Composition: Uses: Pre-Wash: Needle: Special Notes: History of the Fabric: The fabric gets it's name from Gaza in Egypt. It's origins are unknown, but it's known that it was able to be traded in 13th Century into Europe.

Georgette
Composition: Uses: Dresses, blouses, Saris, Home Deco, Pre-Wash: Handwashed in warm water Needle: 60/8, 65/9 HM, or 70/10 HJ. Thread: Machine embroidery thread in silk or cotton. No Polyester. Special Notes: History of the Fabric: Georgette was named after it's inventor who wanted to create a fabric that wasn't as delicate as chiffon. She reached that goal in 1915. It didn't become popular until the 1930s.
Composition: Uses: Dresses, suit jackets, trousers, costumes, formalwear, ties, ribbons, duvet covers, upholstery, drapes, curtains, tablecloths, tapestries, coverlets, pillow shams Pre-Wash: Needle: Special Notes: History of the Fabric: Jacquard has it's origins during the rein of Louis XI (1461-1483). The fabric is named after textile artisan Joseph Marie Jacquard who invented a loom to do the work that would take a long time otherwise (1804). While there are many fabrics that are similar to Jacquards, but it's only a true Jacquard is made with a Jacquard loom.
