Remington Estellise La Faustina Nipal

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stock: None.

Status: She smiles, but her eyes are sad.

Rem shared a look with Nyale as they walked once more. She offered a small smile, but her eyes were different. Salem had snuffed something out.

On the ride home, Rem accepted a glass of wine. It was empty in a few seconds. It wasn’t a drink to be savored; it was a painkiller.

And then began the questions.

”What is the extent of telekinesis? How many objects can be affected at once? Maximum weight? Dimensions? How much force can one exert? How fast can one move material? How precisely can it manipulate objects?”

”How different are the spells of a Sorcerer than one replicated with para-magic?”

”Sorcerers are recorded as having specific domains, but some abilities are shared. Telekinesis, animation, phasing through matter, and more have all been documented by multiple Sorcerers-”

The girl had read. A lot. Every publication by Dr. Odine, one of his research assistants, or a colleague in the same field. Historical texts. Fairy tales. Anthropology. Physics. She had spent time and effort learning all there was to know about Sorcerers. Except for what could be learned only by first-hand experience.

But that wasn’t a problem any more, was it?

All the way to the manor, unless Salem shut her down. Once at the manor and dismissed to clean up, she walked in silence with the other girls to their rooms. She shut herself inside and stood in the dark, the room lit only by the sunlight coming through a curtained window. Her reflection stood before her, watching from a dim vanity mirror.

I know you’re there.

Rem shrugged out of her coat, which fell off her sore shoulders straight to the floor. Looking down at it, she sucked in a breath. She reached for it without crouching. Nothing happened. She stretched her hand toward it and reached. She swore she got a sensation of cloth, but the jacket didn’t move. With a tiny huff of rebellion, she bent down and snatched up the jacket with her hands.

Rem crossed the room to hang it on a post by the door. The light from the window fell on the jacket’s shoulder- on the symbol of a simple, golden circle. The girl touched the design, traced it with her scraped fingers.

”There you are~”

A figure limned by the rising sun. Turning back to look at her with a smile as warm as the dawn. Her mother sits on the hilltop watching the sunrise. The golden circle is emblazoned on her back. A tiny Rem climbs into her lap, and she’s held in an embrace only she is lucky enough to know.

”I’ll make this world better for you, Rem. I promise.”

”We’ll make it better,” Rem murmured in the quiet of her room in Winhill.

What followed was a slow exercise in fine motor skills. The princess peeled dirt-covered clothes off herself and washed her face and arms. In the mirror, she frowned at tiny twigs and bits of grass stuck in her hair. Carefully, carefully, focus on just the twig, and- ow! A couple of hairs came out along with it. But it was a start. In short order, she was picking bits of detritus out and smoothing out the absolute mess of tangles which her hair had become. Miming the gesture with her hands, she slowly wove her hair up into a messy bun and tied it tight.

Huh. Actually easier without your hands in the way…

Now for clothes…

KLNK

Inside the dining room, the old brass door handle fell off and landed on the floor. The door swung open with a creak to reveal Remington Nipal, frowning at a floating door handle on her side of the portal. Seemed she needed to work on correct application of force. Clothing didn’t care about torsion, but rigid objects did.

”My apologies,” she offered, levitating the broken handle to a nearby cabinet and setting it on top. The one from the floor followed in short order. Rem used her hands liberally, miming gestures with her fingers which were carried out at a distance. Her brow still furrowed as she did every motion- still felt like an ice pick had been jammed into her brain. Her hair was done up in a rough bun. Her shirt and trousers were still grass-stained and rough. Her arms were painted in shades of blue, black, and purple thanks to the bruises from her flight efforts.

At the table, she bobbed a little bow to Salem and gestured her chair back. A tickle of warmth at her nose. She reached up and touched the lone drop of blood.

She levitated the waiting napkin to her hand and dabbed at her nose, before neatly sitting and folding the stained cloth in her lap. She was not the first to start any conversation. Instead, she eyed her dishware, and she thought. When is the last time we all sat at the same table?

Even when Kal visited, mom was busy, or Sou-hi out, or…something. Always something. But if she cast her mind back far enough, she could find them still. Noisy mornings around a too-small table. Little Rem helping mom or dad serve up pancakes. Kalen laughing, the twins refusing to stop their play even at the table, Sou-hi putting up a fuss…

She smiled. Just a little. Just enough. Just enough to raise her hand over her spoon. The silverware trembled. Then its handle end lifted up, rising like it were drawn by a magnet toward Rem’s fingers. She didn’t touch, but instead began to swirl her hand in a slow circle. The spoon followed, miming stirring an unseen bowl of batter.

Creee

Her smile inverted. The spoon came to a stop. It was already twisted, its handle bent by unseen fingers. Rem frowned at it. Looked at other spoons near her. Her brow furrowed harder; the increased focus visibly hurt. With a similar quiet creak, the spoon straightened back out, mostly back to normal. She set to practicing with it and other implements. Jab with the fork. Cut with the knife. Move the spoon while keeping it level.

The girl learned fast. Soon, she braved levitating the water pitcher to her glass. With only a mild wince from the sensation of being jabbed in the brain, she poured the water out with a smooth motion that filled her glass. Not a drop spilled! Rem put the pitcher back down with a grimace, but she’d managed! Up came her glass, floating to-

KRNCH

It shattered. Glass and water splashed onto the table. Rem frowned at the mess. Before tiny shards and particles of glassware began to float up and deposit themselves onto a nearby saucer. She cleaned up her mess- minus the water, which soaked into the table cloth- and reached toward the collection of spare glasses and dishware sitting on a shelf nearby. Another glass lifted off its stack and floated across the room to her hand. This one, she filled without breaking. She brought the glass to her lips without ever touching it and drank.

When she was done, she once more wiped at her nose bleed, and she waited for dinner.

Etamara looked upon Rem and Nyale, seeing the two support one another as they made their way back home to the estate. She pondered what it meant to work together with the other two. In another way, she failed to keep Rem safe, arguably the most inexperienced in this scenario. She rarely thought about other people, and perhaps that alone was a great weakness in of itself that she hadn't thought of until now.

While she did not feel anything when Rem was sad, perhaps she needed to recognize that Rem was struggling to adapt to her gifts, and she did ask for help on how to use her telekinesis, until they were rudely interrupted. For now, that would have to be put on hold while they arrived back at the manner to prepare for dinner. In her time of preparation, she often hummed musically to herself, idly using her magic as second nature, just like Salem had always told her to do. One thing she could pride herself always was how effortless it was to generate musical notes in the air, recreating any instrumental or vocal sound she wished to achieve. Over time, learning how to manipulate the bodies of others was through a thought, perhaps twisted in a way, but, it came from the thought of wanting others to love her by force. A truth that she wouldn't ever admit to anyone, not even herself.

As she idly brushed her hair in her room, grooming herself before dinner and touching up on her makeup, she could hear the sounds of glass shattering and objects breaking not too far from her room. One had to wonder if it was ghosts causing a stir again in this haunted estate, or perhaps worse? Well, she was never one to ignore the sounds of commotion, so, setting her brush down, she took her instrument and made her way to the source of the sounds, coming across none other than where Rem was located. When she entered to investigate, she took notice of Rem attempting to practice with various different utensils and glasses.

Right, she needed to learn telekinesis. Now was as good of a time as any, right? Or so Etamara thought to herself as she quietly entered the room, silencing her footsteps to sneak upon Rem just until she was behind her, and then spoke, purposely to rattle and startle her. "You're overthinking it."

KRNCH

The glass exploded right in front of Remington’s face! She shoved herself up from the table and rounded on Etamara, table knife raised up like a dagger! She clenched her jaw tight as she brought it back down, letting out a ragged breath.

”I will kindly ask that you do not startle me,” she said. Rem visibly calmed herself, but it took effort while she gingerly set the knife back in its place. ”If Master Everett tasks you with attacking me in disguise like those white SeeD, I will do my best to kill you.” She doubted the more experienced Sorceress would care.

”Not that I’ve managed to hurt anything worse than a drinking glass, she sighed, looking down at the second mess. She began to pick up pieces once more, having to mime the gesture with her hands. One fragment at a time.

”I’ve seen you playing solely with your magic,” Rem said, her voice gentle and her eyes solemn while she worked. ”Your dexterity is astonishing. What should I be doing?”

                                          Ny gladly accepted the glass of wine en route back to the house and soon enough the mild buzz of the alcohol helped soothe her aching limbs somewhat and ease any anxious thoughts in her head. She relaxed against the seat, closing her eyes, and merely listened whilst Rem peppered Salem with questions. Some of which she was interested to know more about too...

                                          At their destination she exited the car and blinked tiredly up at Salem while he spoke about using magic for everything from here onwards. "Mm...yessir..." The girl replied simply to his instructions. It was par for the course, and though it had been a while since she'd practiced using telekinesis so much, Ny figured it would be good to get back into the habit. "Aw, five minutes?!" Not even close to enough time for a hot bath. She sighed, knowing her weary bones would have to wait until after dinner.

                                          With a yawn she dutifully headed off upstairs to her room to change.

                                          ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                          Nyale emerged into the familiar and luxurious dining room later looking more refreshed and awake, even if she didn't particularly feel it. Her face was washed and clean, long hair brushed and left loose falling over her shoulders, and she had changed into a simple black long-sleeve dress that she often wore for semi-formal dinners, all actions completed using magic, as requested. It was a little awkward at first, but soon became easier and easier to get used to it again. Problem was, using telekinesis for everything in front of normal people tended to freak them out, in her experience. But here at least they could all wield it in peace.
                                          She did frown at the missing door handles, momentarily curious at what had happened there. Seeing Eta sneak up and surprise Rem caused her to stifle a laugh as she crossed the room past the pair, even as Rem reacted extremely. Judging by the water stain on the table and the collection of broken glass shards in the saucer, Rem had been practising. Ny walked to the other side of the table and waved a hand to draw out her chair, the legs scraping on the floor. She seated herself and waved again to pour herself another much larger glass of wine than the one she'd had in the car, the bottle floating easily in the air and tilting itself above her glass. Now that she wasn't in a supposedly life and death scenario her movements were smoother, slower and more careful, managing not to spill any of the crimson liquid.
                                          Sitting at the Everett table was familiar activity for Ny, having attended many family dinners there, though this time her companions were a little different. It was a little strange to now be sat at the family home with Remington and Etamara, something she could not have anticipated. A faint smile graced her lips, recalling some of the incidents where she'd done her best to wind her cousins up at family gatherings without any of the parents noticing. Such as by magically flicking peas at Rae, or moving Marianna's plate around when she wasn't looking. Leaving Eta and Rem to their interactions while they all waited for the food to arrive she took a long, deep, much needed drink of wine and instead looked over at Salem.
                                          "How is Raeka, uncle? I didnt get much chance to properly catch up with him after..." After he got shot, and after the lunar cry. She had visited him at the hospital when she wasn't busy helping clear up the city but he had always seemed to be sleeping. Ny had no idea where he was now, or what he was up to. "Is he doing okay?"
She couldn't help but chuckle at the comment made by Rem as she replied with a knife almost to her. She hardly felt threatened by it, mostly for various reasons but most of all, she doubted Rem would have followed through with it. If she did though, it truly would have been an unexpected surprise that even she couldn't have seen coming. She giggled at Rem's threat to kill her, but nodded, amused by her and even was happy to flaunt herself when Rem praised her over her magic, posturing herself with a happy tone. "Rigorous use since I moved in with my mentor has given me nigh complete mastery over it! The issue is you are focusing everything up in your head and not enough through your body!" She declared as she moved in closer to Rem, perhaps to an uncomfortable degree to being close enough to touch her.
Which, she did! Reaching her hands out, she placed them on Rem's arms and stopped her from doing whatever magical actions she was attempting, speaking. "You are a sorcerer now! Mana is pouring through your veins, itching to be given thought and form! Right now you are simply imagining an invisible force lifting and picking up and object, but that is not how it works! It is energy! It requires guidance! Like a river! You must imagine mana flowing from yourself to the objects you wish to lift or move to your will, then, and only then can you do it." As she was explaining, she didn't pay much attention to Nyale, far too engrossed in herself, but that likely was to be a common occurance with anyone at this point.
Rem didn’t have to get surprised by Nyale. The princess nodded her way when she noticed Ny’s arrival; thankfully without the use of cutlery.
Rem tightened up like a viper at Etamara’s touch. She did not like that…and shoved the words down.
Watch. Learn.
Etamara was right. Rem had been picturing this as an extension of her body, like Salem said. Like an invisible arm and hand. But that wasn’t how it had felt back in the forest, was it? She remembered. This time, she remembered.
The river flowed from within. She had spent so many years holding it back, she’d convinced herself it wasn’t a part of her at all. That it was flowing around her. No.
I am the river.
The thought jarred her. Etamara waited while holding onto Rem. The girl twisted her arm, but only to look at her own hand. She’d been told all her life that this flesh and bone was her. That her existence reached only out to her skin. But it didn’t feel like that now. Not if she let herself feel. Rem shut her eyes.
She drifted out of herself. The flowing mana(?) wafted off her skin, spreading out into the world around her. If she let herself…she could feel it.
Smooth table. Covered in lumpy shapes. Plates. Cups. Utensils. Candles. The hardwood floor was varnished to perfection, but she could feel the slivers of gaps between the boards. She could feel the hum of the lamps lighting the room and the warmth of their bulbs.
You’ve always known this body isn’t you, Remington reminded herself. You’ve known ever since you first looked in the mirror and wished something was different. Wished so hard it hurt.
”You’re you, Remington. How could I ever hate you for being born the way you are?”
The room rattled.
All of it.
Dozens of plates, glasses, knives, and forks trembled. On the table, on shelves, on drawers. The light fixtures, the curtains, the knobs, the windows. They trembled, rattled…and the smaller among them began to rise. Off the dining table, plate after plate levitated into the air. Utensils clinked and clattered together as gravity gave up its hold. Nyale’s glass was in her grip and couldn’t escape- but the remaining wine inside could. It floated up and beyond the rim of the glass, drifting in thick globules in the air.
She let go of Rem once it was clear she understood was Etamara was getting at with her words; yet she was not prepared for the results. Witnessing many objects in the room rattle and shake, she was definitely surprised by her raw power. She wondered just how powerful it could be when refined? Well, she aimed to see the potential of Rem, if only to truly have more than just a rival to go against to prove that she was greater!
As Rem focused deeply into herself, Eta decided that she would assist Rem further in this regard by plucking at her strings and performing her magic. Through Rem, she could feel the invisible presence of Etamara coursing into her. The natural power boost she felt, every part of her strengthening and bolstering, even her attunement to magic could feel improvement. Even better; Rem could feel that mana flow even more accutely thanks to Etamara, channeling her flow and concentrated efforts to improve her control over her telekinetic prowess. "Very good. Now you are thinking like a sorceress. Remember that you are not pulling from nature around you, you are manifesting a miracle from yourself. You must always remember the flow and to give it thought and shape in what you desire. The longer you practice, the easier it'll be to imagine such things, and your reaction time with it will improve!"
Music: Clockworks
Rem’s eyes came open at the sound of Etamara plucking Virtuoso. The girls both saw her startlement at virtually the entire dining room levitating! As the tablecloth began to rise, it became apparent the long, heavy table itself was drifting up off its wooden legs! The surprise caused the whole collection to rattle and shake ominously, but with Etamara’s music coursing through her, she found her grip steadier. She managed not to shatter anything so far!
Good music could move the spirit, but Eta’s music was something else. Amazement washed over Rem’s face as she felt the flow of mana grow stronger, and even then grow finer. Her awareness expanded like she had spent all day half-asleep and only now fully opened her eyes! She could feel the different facets of a glass cut in crystalline pattern. She could feel the molded patterns on the plates. She could feel the grain of the wood on the table, floor, cabinets, ceiling…
Wonder flickered in Rem’s eyes. She listened as avidly as any child getting their favorite story. And she felt. She felt it all!
She didn’t use her hands, this time. She could feel every one of them, like they were floating in a calm pond and she was the water. She imagined a ripple in the pond; a stirring drawing a dinner plate closer. The plate which had been meant for her main course floated toward her, spinning like a discus. She caught it between two fingers, considered it, and then flicked it spinning sideways like a coin. It spun in the air on the tip of her finger.
And Rem smiled.
What if…? What if there were a little whirlpool? If it swept up everything?
The world began to turn. The entire table’s worth of flatware became to rotate, spinning in a gentle orbit ‘round the central lighting. When Nyale’s knees hit the levitating table, they both realized the girl’s chair was hovering off the floor! Rem still herself and slowed the whorl of houseware. With a little careful focus, she settled chairs, table, and cabinets back into place. With Eta’s rhythm guiding her, she found herself steadily moving plates back to the table. Then knives, forks, spoons, saucers, bowls- all in their proper place. Slow, steady, she managed to put everything mmmore or less where it belonged.
But that wasn’t quite enough, was it? Rem felt the first flicker of joy she had since arriving in Winhill! If she could fan that spark…
Around the table, wine glasses levitated up into the air. At their center, the main pitcher arose, and began to dispense! In a little bobbing dance, Rem filled each glass- with differing amounts of wine. With eight glasses, she laid out a row from least- to highest-filled.
And then, she joined in the music.
Soft chimes whorled into the air! Rem's hands drifted like a maestra's. She practically just had to envision her sheet music! Rem was using the wine glasses as flutes, joining Etamara’s tune with a supporting rhythm. And instead of fighting for position, their tunes formed a richer melody.
Complementing one another.
Salem Everett
Status: Head of the Household.
Location: Dining Room, Everett Estate.
____________________________________________________
"Like with most things, the limits are bound to the individual. I myself can technically lift hundreds, but there's not really any practical reason to do such a thing. My upper weight limit is some thousands, but I haven't tended to weight what I can or can not lift. Dimensions is within reason, for example I most likely couldn't throw the gatehouse in Deling city, but I could individually manipulate the actual gates. Vehicles, light poles, and such other things you can mostly glimpse the total dimensions of tends to be the normal limit."
Salem took another sip between questions and answers. "If it's narrow or aerodynamic, I can break the sound barrier. I can also manipulate things finer than with my hands, due to not needing a grip, and hard to reach simply doesn't apply. One could probably make a mean mechanic if you wished." He put his glass down, and folded his hands in his lap. "The difference between a artist and someone tracing them. Para-magic is tracing over what true magic users do, they mostly can only replicate. We are the truly gifted, we can mold and mend the spells we weave to be more or less than the pre-sets para magic uses."
"We do have domains, although it's more typal. My sister weaves ice like no other, and even excels with it more than I. I myself am prone to bio, and similar abilities that relate to poison and status conditions. It's why I fought the Malboro alone, the creature's signature ability was a moot point on me. Etamara is my mirror opposite, she mostly works with positive conditions using her ability to uplift. Nyale the dear, is about light and healing magic. She's begun to reach some of her potential, doing things with restorative magic no one else could do. A great boon for Koyuki's children, and you two for being on a team. A proverbial white mage."
He raised his eye brows for a moment as she got into animation and phasing through matter. "Now, those later ones are exceedingly difficult. It took me decades to manage phasing, and even animation is difficult for me. But I suppose that is my role, to make sure you girls do not have to struggle against the dark to reach our potential. I will be watching your aptitudes for each of the more sophisticated abilities. You may each be able to grasp one or two of them easier, but do not expect to learn more in less then a decade. I'll do what I can to make it faster, but with everything being so individual, a simple training regime is frankly, impossible."
Later.
Salem had taken only a short moment to clean himself up. Of course it was easier for him, with his assistant plucking things out of his hair and taking his jacket to have it cleaned while he washed his face and hands. He put his hands on the sink for a moment. Could he get them up to snuff to be able to stop himself if things got out of hand? Would they even realize it before it went too far? Probably not. Etamara would likely not care. It probably would fall on Marianna and Lisanna's shoulders. "<******** later.
Salem was the picture of a gentleman. No one could tell that he was out in the woods earlier, at least not by his appearance. However his distraction was clear when he was brought out of it by one of his door handle descending to the floor. What sort of clumsy mess had decided to undo the screws instead of simply pushing down on the door lever. It wasn't much of a problem, he could fix that pretty easily, not that he wanted to this evening, as he looked at the door with a sort of fatigued disappointment, he flinched when he heard the glass break.
That wasn't Remington's fault, that was the staff. They were supposed to have the practice wear out for this girl to use. Glass was meant for learning precision, not basic grip. He spoke a quiet word to his assistant who disappeared out of the room quickly, roughly exactly when Nyale entered instead. He smiled at her, at least his Niece wasn't aiming to make his evening more tiring unlike Etamara, but at least they were enjoying their youth. Although that expression faded quickly when she brought up Raeka.
"Yes, and no. He's physically fit, his wounds have recovered without so much as a scar by now." He searched for what he wanted to say yes, but there was a discomfort when he came up empty. He didn't know how to address what had happened to his firstborn son, or even tell Nyale. "He's no longer a sorcerer but... he's still gifted." He may have gone further, before his attention was drawn to the room being rattled. His gaze fell upon the other two girls, and it seemed Etamara had given Remington a breakthrough, but Nyale could see it for a brief moment on Salem's face.
To put it politely, it was distaste. It had a lingering sense of Raeka's magical talent. The man took a moment to focus, to micro-adjust Remington's games so it all seemed so effortless. But the longer he did it, the more he could sense the hint of his sons magic and at a point the room went still. Everything stopped. It was like the ocean had come crashing down, to subsume the river and all that it had. A tsunami whose force made the river seemed trivial by comparison. One by one everything was put right. Nyale's chair first hit the ground gently, the wine pouring back into her glass.
The music cut out. Etamara was slid into a seat across from Nyale, the wine all returned to the pitcher to not be wasted on some child's sugar rush escapade. Then the rest of the silverwear returned to where it belonged, before staff began to enter with several plates of gourmet food for the women to pluck at and find what took to their palate. A moderate attention to detail would show the staff seemed to be disconcerted at the prior show, they understood who they worked for but he rarely put on such performances.
Once Salem had settled all of that down, he gave a cat like grin. "Firstly, well done Etamara. You may have the making of a educator, yet. Second, most impressive young Remington. You show but a fraction of your potential, and while I do abhor putting your fun to a stop before it's natural decline, my dining room is not the place for this." His voice fell more stern towards the end of that. "Now, please, eat. Regain your strength. Imagine how much more you'll be capable of with a full stomach and a clear mind."
                                          Ny exhaled in relief to hear that her cousin was doing okay, though Salem's follow up prompted a frown of confusion.
                                          Not a sorcerer but still gifted? How?
                                          Ny pondered this, and would have investigated further had she not then become distracted by whole dining room rattling and the mass of floating dishware, including the amorphous glob of wine that had escaped her glass. She stared at Rem with an amused smile, impressed at her ability to control so many items all at once so soon. Soon enough she felt her own chair begin to levitate as Eta gave Rem's power a boost, causing the magic experiments to step up a notch. "REMMY do you MIND?! I prefer to eat my dinner with my feet on the ground thanks!" The girl laughed on her hovering perch. She was happy to simply watch Rem's antics continue and listen to the magical music, though her expression soon fell slightly as she caught sight of Salem's displeasure. And then everything stopped.
                                          She felt her chair carefully descend to the floor, and observed silently as everything else was put back into place.
                                          "Dinner and a show!" She commented finally with a wry smirk, taking another sip of wine now that the liquid was safely back in the glass. As the staff began to finally bring in the food Ny could see that they were put off by the magical activities, as most normal people often were, which killed the mood even further. That would be something she knew Rem would have to learn to get used to: the way people looked at them sometimes, ranging from interest to discomfort, even to outright hostility and fear. With the excitement all over with Ny began helping herself to the food, floating whatever she wanted over to her own plate. As was usual for the Everett household, the fare looked rich and enticing. Nyale gave a respectful thanks to her uncle and the servers before digging in.
                                          "So what will we be doing tomorrow?" She asked Salem in a curious tone, after swallowing a forkful of roast potatoes. Would he tell them? Or would it be another surprise? Since the three of the them had different abilities to work on, Ny was curious if they would continue with group activities or if they would be separated.
Something you say or something you do // A taste of the Divine
        After the ruckus had subsided and the servers had finished laying out the food, the door to the dining room opened once more magically by itself. Through the threshold the headmaster of Winhill garden entered, gracefully breezing in like someone who had long ago become accustomed to entering rooms full of people without a care.
        "Good evening, friends...apologies for my lateness" She greeted them in a serene tone, her voice melodic and soothing. "There was a good deal to catch up on at the Garden, after my absence these last few days"
        Pale as a ghost, with hair white as starlight and eyes the cold blue of a winter sky, the woman seemed to almost give off an ethereal glow. Like something otherworldly, and definitely not mortal. Like she would have been better placed in a castle made of ice. Even the temperature of the room dropped slightly around her due to her aura. Lisanna's incomprehensible gaze slid across each of the guests in turn, and she smiled.
        "My, my, isn't this lovely. I haven't seen this many sorcerers together since our last family gathering"
        The woman moved to her brother and gave him an affectionate peck on the cheek, before doing the same to her young daughter. She inclined her head to the two other girls. Etamara she knew fairly well, having had various interactions with Salem's protegé over the years, and Nona's girl she had met properly aboard the helicopter recently, though of course she had seen her from afar as a young child with Nona on occasion, and knew bits and pieces of information about her. More so since the Succession. "Good to see you again, Etamara, Remington. I've heard that my brother really put you both, and my little one, through your paces today, so I'm pleased that you're all in one piece"
        With a flick of magic Lis drew out her chair and seated herself. On the table, Ny's crystal wine glass was swiftly levitated away from her and found its way to Lisanna's hand instead, decisively replaced with a glass of plain water for Ny, who merely scowled in response to the pointed look given by her mother. If the girl was surprised at Lisanna's arrival, she didn't show it, though she did glance at the door again as if wondering whether anyone else would be arriving. A silver spoon tapped itself on the headmaster's glass, sending a crystalline ringing sound across the table.
        "Allow me to propose a toast..to gaining new friends and new skills, and to the endless pursuit of knowledge" The ice Sorceress floated her newly acquired glass upwards, with Nyale following suit. As her garden focused on promoting learning, it was no surprise that Lis would make toast praising their education.
Once again, another performance ruined! She huffed at the sudden movement, being forced back into her seat. But, upon self reflection on what was occurring she had calmed herself and adjusted herself comfortably at the table. She was happy to be praised at the very least, and with Lisanna arriving to take her place at the table among the sorcerers, everyone was more or less free to dig in! "When it comes to feeling the flow in all things, that is my expertise!"
With dinner in front of her, she began to dig in, elegantly eating with her telekinetic power, moving utensils, napkins, and adjusting when needed to eat. She had no struggle in doing such a thing, even capable of precisely cutting into her food with her knife and hold it down with her fork, before eating. As she idly ate, there was this notable soft humming buzzing off of Eta, a sort of natural state of sound constantly emitting from her. This was both a biproduct of her magic and something she passively did, ensuring to keep her melody at the ready at all times.
"To knowledge!" She raised her glass up to toast with Lisanna, smiling and grinning to her fellow sorcerers. It was a rare sight to see such a thing, just as Lisanna said. Who could say they ate dinner with only sorcerers before? The thought of that amused her, and she had to wonder what kind of sorcerers she'd see in the future? It seemed so many more were coming into the world, or were just hidden among the conflict. With the new one arrising, she only could guess if more would surface as a result.
"Tomorrow?" He was simply going to keep it a surprise, but he saw no harm in revealing what it was. "Perseverance." Salem did not see any vagueness in what he said, he knew the misery he had in mind and what the girls would have to prove. He expected all of them to do fine, and was hoping that the next test would simply be a revelation and not necessarily a new lesson. The man guided some of the lamb over to his plate, and he was moving onto the next dish when a familiar face strode through the door.
"I'm so glad you could join us, sis." He greeted his sibling with a warm smile, and a half hug as she gave him a kiss on the cheek. As she spoke he went ahead and completed his plate with some sizzled garlic, roast potatoes and a few other greens to help balance his plate. Yes, to some degree he did care about his figure and did watch what he ate. Usually. Sometimes. Half and half. You know what, he had people for this, they could keep watch of his diet and he'd eat what they put before him. He took a cut of grilled venison as well.
However before he got carried away with his food, his sister proposed a toast. To knowledge. One carried along by Etamara and Nyale, and likely with little doubt so too would Remington. "To knowledge, and erudition." Or wisdom. The understanding that came with it. He raised his glass, and secretly prepared to save any mess that Remington may have made if she made a error as she had before. Glass in the food would simply piss him off and he didn't feel like leaving that to chance.
Remington Estellise La Faustina Nipal
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stock: None.
Status: She smiles, but her eyes are sad.
The river ran free! Wild and bright and marvelous! It was like the first time she’d Drawn a spell! Nyale’s protest only fanned her grin! The more she listened to it, the more she let it move-
It met a dam. An unseen impact jarred Rem out of her focus as the whole room went still. She looked down, her hands still in the air, to find Salem looking at her with displeasure. She felt her grip on…everything slip away, like a toy pried out of a child’s hand by her stern father. No sooner than he had put everything back in place did a batch of servants emerge to bring out the actual dinner. Rem watched them- she always watched the serving staff. One could learn much from how a person treated servants. And she did learn something: Salem didn’t put on shows like that. The tightness in each of the staff members’ faces spelled it out. None of them would look directly at Rem, and the one who returned to change out her fragile dinnerware with plastic did so with care to get no closer than she must.
”Yes, sir,” Rem answered with the same quiet composure Salem had received from her ever since Eden City. She did not speak unless spoken to, and then with short, polite answers. The one exception had been their ride back from the forest, grilling him for details about their shared talents.
She turned her focus to the actual food, painstakingly beginning to levitate individual bits of food to her plates and bowls. Easier than before, but without Salem’s unseen guidance, Rem’s magic grew clumsier. She crumpled her garlic bread into small, dense lump when trying to move it to her plate, a bowl of sauce wobbled so badly it spilled its contents down its sides before Rem could get it to herself, and she gave up on trying to serve herself corn when she managed all of three kernels in a single grab.
She looked like a child, using plastic dishware while everyone else in the room had metal and ceramic and glass. Moreso as she watched everyone in the room’s utensils and dinnerware move itself as if the table were a feast for ghosts. Even moreso as her grimace started to return. The more she fumbled with her telekinesis, the worse her headache grew. What had subsided into a dull, distant ache slowly began to sear its way deeper into her skull.
At least she was distracted by the arrival of another diner: none other than Headmistress Everett. Rem shouldn’t have been surprised; the two were siblings, and Nyale was right here. She murmured a ‘thank you’ with the other girls for the praise. She watched Lisanna seat herself, all the way up until the spoon chimed against the glass. Glasses went up around the table. Rem’s last of all. While the others moved to clink together, Rem’s hesitated. The girl grabbed the glass with a hand and dumped its contents into the plastic substitute which had been brought in. Set the one down, levitate the other, and she was able to join in on clinking a couple of glasses.
                                          Perseverance. Nyale huffed quietly to herself at Salem's answer, repressing another scowl with considerable effort. Well that's just vague and maddeningly unhelpful... She thought, chewing on some greens whilst her fork and knife hovered and moved of their own accord, somewhat clumsily cutting up a slice of meat. The more her thoughts drifted, the messier her telekinesis became, but she didn't seem to care all that much. At least until the fork slipped and sent a little piece of meat sailing through the air towards Etamara. "Ahem...um...sorry about that, Eta..." She muttered, quickly magically flicking it off the other girl, slightly embarrassed.
                                          But the reply was typical of her uncle. Whatever the challenge was, Ny could already tell it was going to be exhausting. However, this was exactly what she had signed up for, after all. Following the toast the girl ate slowly, more distracted now with thinking about what kind of fresh horrors the team would face tomorrow. The food was also so rich and filling that she never needed to eat much here anyway. A little went a long way.
                                          ~~~~~~~~~~

                                          Lisanna similarly didn't seem all that interested in eating much. She consumed a few bites and then sat back in her chair, seemingly content to sip the excellent wine and observe the three girls with an eagle eye. Etamara, magically humming like a refrigerator, so young but also brimming with untested confidence. And a unique talent. Her daughter, happy-go-lucky, concerningly naiive, and lost in her head half the time. And Remington, reserved, unsure and careful, like a fawn venturing away from its mother for the first time into an alien new world. Yet with great potential hidden within, Lis suspected. Some of which was unfortunately sadly drawn from her dear nephew. She also displayed an admirable amount of determination, if her attempts at using sorcery to eat were anything to go by. Perhaps the girl didn't feel like it, but Lisanna could see she was making incredible progress already.

                                          "Etamara...Remington...it would be a pleasure to have you come by the Garden for a visit, should you get a break from your training in the coming days. If you would like that?" She offered, idly swirling the blood-red liquid in her glass. "I'm sure Salem can spare you for an hour or so?" The woman cast her brother a questioning glance and playful smile, arching an eyebrow.

                                          ~~~~~~~~~~
                                          With Lisanna momentarily focusing her attention on Eta and Rem, Ny took the opportunity to sneakily use her magic to pour herself a replacement small glass of wine, hiding it from her mother's view behind a large silver pitcher of gravy.
                                          "...and Nyale could show you around, of course"
                                          Hearing her name the girl coughed, swallowing her food with some difficulty and nodding quickly to avoid raising her mother's suspicions.
                                          "Y-Yep..."
                                          Ny composed herself, looking at Rem and flashing her a bright smile. "You showed me around Eden, it's only right that I return the favour. Ooh! Maybe we could also do a musical performance at the Garden, the three of us?" She looked between Eta and Rem, genuine eagerness casting a sparkle in her eyes. Etamara she was sure would take an opportunity to show off her musical skills in front of a large audience.
                                          "That would be a lovely idea. For after you've finished your training" Lisanna added in her gentle, melodic voice.
