Captain Verd Nephite Warrior I'm too lazy to read everything posted in this topic, but how did this turn into a discussion on sex? Someone said sex = maturity. Um, I know I didn't say that? I said that one could reasonably say that Shikamaru might have had sex at this point, especialy if one were bassing Naruto-land off Japan. He's around the right age for experimentation, after all. I also said that one could argue that this adds another layer of 'adulthood' onto him, since sex and sexuality are things linked with adulthood. *shrug*

So, it doesn't matter what your chakra type is. As long as you have chakra, you can put it in the blades. Shikamaru could have Earth, Fire, or Water chakra (not lightening though. It doesn't look anything like lightening).

So, it doesn't matter what your chakra type is. As long as you have chakra, you can put it in the blades. Shikamaru could have Earth, Fire, or Water chakra (not lightening though. It doesn't look anything like lightening). Finally, someone else who gets it.

That's sick and perverted. He's not the type of person to just ********. And his relations with Temari are not that developed. In fact, I don't think anyone in Naruto would just ******** anyone. Shikamaru is at the right age, but you must also remember he is quite an introverted individual. Experimenting might not involve other people. sweatdrop Not that this really matters when this show is about ninjas and such. I don't want to know when and why he spanks the monkey, okay? gonk Sex does not add a "layer" of "adulthood" to anyone. Plenty of immature pricks have sex because they "just wanna." Sex and sexuality are linked to adulthood by morons.

Captain Verd Maybe it's just general chakra stuffs. Water could work, lightning is popular with the angst bucket boys... Could be. I lean towards Water as well. It seems to suit Shikamaru nicely. Earth might be another good one. I really can't see Fire, though. Then again, I think we were all a little surprised by Naruto's "Wind" (I know I was). So who knows. Chakra doesn't have to follow personality, I guess.

@ Verd & Crabapple: Proof please? I don't remember him saying that. If he did, then I've learned something. My Japanese text version said, "kaze" which means wind. Perhaps I connected the sentences incorrectly. But I'm certain he mentioned wind when he was talking about the blades. In fact. I have the book.
Yup. Volume 35, chapter 317, page 151, panel one. If anyone has a translation of that, I'd gladly read it. He says,
"いいか
風の性質変化はチャクラを二つに分割して"
I know that 風の性質 (kaze no seishitsu) means, "wind nature" and 変化 (henka) means, "change" or "manipulation." チャクラ (chakura) speaks for itself, it means, "chakra." 二つ (futatsu) means two, though we're used to hearing it said as, "ni." 分割 (bunkatsu) means, "division" or "portion."
Mostly just bits of info. That part is where I got the wind idea from.

I understand that Asuma uses wind chakra with his blades, but that doesn't mean they're wind chakra blades. When he was explaining them to Naruto, he said that without channeling any of your own chakra, they're just regular blades. Asuma had to make his own wind chakra into a hardened edge extending from the blade in order for them to do any real damage. The wind thingy is his own, not the blades. If he were any other type of element chakra user, he would have to fashion the chakra into an edge regardless.

Asuma told Naruto that the blades are 'Chakra Blades' or something like that....he never said they are 'wind chakra blades'...........so chances are, they are blades that when you focus chakra into them, it makes them better

If you guys remember right, it was explained that different chakras natures have different attribute, the wind, a highly battle offensive type, was turbulent and was a 'sharp' charka, having a jagged look and feel to it when being used. Look at the chakra while being used through the blades by Asumaand Naruto, it was wild, sharp and jagged, as well as light colored, I would guess that if it was in color, it would have been yellowish. However, when Shikamaru uses the blades, his chakra is far different, it is globy, with a molten or liquid appearance to it, and is darker in color. This makes me think either water or fire. Fire could be a play on the fact that beneath his outer calm, he has a inner turnbulent or fire passion. Or the water could be a direct representative of his laid back, go with the flow, calm nature. I personally will go with the later (water based), though fire would be my next guess.
