"What, did you think I was going to just sit there and let him take that? I remembered what happened the last time I tried that, thanks." Aden spoke up, with Raticate chiming in and saying something about Fearow's parents likely being raised in a barn. An explanation for its behavior, perhaps?

"But two can play your game. Raticate, Quick Attack!" This time, Raticate jumped into the air, launching himself at Fearow in an effort to trade blows. He had to keep the heat on Fearow, Aden thought. Keep it from maintaining an upper hand.

As the Aerial Ace collided with the Quick Attack, the Fearow moved back some, but not far enough in Raticate's case. "Really? Then Steel Wing, Fearow!" He shouted.

"FEAR!" The Fearow shouted, quickly moving his wing back around and went to strike the Raticate with a shining wing.

For Raticate, though, the attack still hurt and shoved him back as well. He went to get back up and see what was to come next, only to get smacked hard by the wing and fly back even further. "Raaaat!"

"Raticate! Are you alright!?" Aden didn't like how this looked offhand, but he doubted it'd be over that fast. Seeing Raticate get up again was enough to dismiss his concerns. "Good... strike back while you still can! Hyper Fang!"

This led to Raticate wondering of what hazards would arise from out and out biting a bird. The fact that the bird could do worse on its own, though, became a strong motivator in just going with it. He rushed forward at once, baring his fangs and trying to sink them into Fearow.

"Double Team!" Jackie shouted.

Quickly the Fearow split into multiples as the Raticate came down to sink his teeth into the bird. Only Raticate would get was a illusion.

This quickly became a warning to Aden, seeing his Raticate hit nothing but a false version of the bird. He was going to need different tactics now, and what he had out now just didn't possess the means. "No choice... Raticate, return." He spoke up, pulling Raticate out of there in an instant. So much for trying to avoid switching himself.

"Nidoran, this one's on you! Get your ace going and defend!" He called, letting Nidoran out. He had a plan in mind. He just needed a few seconds to do it, and a little luck. Taking to the defensive seemed to be the best way offhand, which led to a close eye being kept on all the illusions while an attack was readied.

"That Nidoran again? Huh, for a moment there, I thought you may of given me something to worry about. But now you left yourself limited to just it and that rat! Fearow! Use Drill Peck!" he shouted.

"FEEAR!" The illusions flew up then started to come back down, as if all of them were going to come after him. When the Fearow got close, the drill kicked in and the illusions vanished. The Fearow was coming in fast from the side.

"Another second, and..." Aden had to time this. While dodging didn't look too hard, he imagined Nidoran would think far differently on the subject. If something wasn't done, things were going to get uglier than desired. "Now, Nidoran, let it out! Shock Wave!"

As such, it was time for Plan B and a crash course in actually using a new move. A little surprise for that Fearow, in the form of an immediate discharge coming from Nidoran at all angles. He ducked as he attacked, resulting in a graze that he hoped wouldn't happen a second time.

"Hey, Jackie, what were you saying about nothing to worry about?" Aden spoke up.

The Fearow instantly felt the harsh sting of the Shockwave attack, hitting the ground right before the Nidoran, which virtually left Jackie speechless, then really REALLY agitated. "You. Bring. Electricity. IN THIS GYM!?"

"Oh crap, gym pride's hurt." I said.

"Yes, that's not a very good position to be in." Falkner said, looking back.

"So that's how it's going to be. Fearow! Are you still able!?" He called out. The Fearow sprung back up and flew back before he was able to take another jolt. "Let's see how YOU like it! Fearow! Mirror Move!" He shouted.

"Feeeeeaarrr!" Instantly, the Fearow sparked electricity then discharged it himself. Probably to Aden's surprise, it was a Shockwave going straight for Nidoran.

"Yep, he's mad." Aden had a feeling that was coming. Given that he probably just delivered a massive insult, he knew that things were only going to get worse from here. His eyes widened when he heard the command that followed, and knew there was just no way to do anything about it. Not with an attack like that. "Nidoran, brace yourself! There's no way to get out of that, so try to take a little bit of it in instead!"

Nidoran kept himself as close to the ground as he could, taking the attack. Taking any of the electricity in, however, was easier said than done. He only got a small amount, hardly enough to even say he got anything at all. "Still in the air..." Aden said afterward. Easily too high to hit with most attacks. "In that case, Leer!"

An unusual tactic this time, but he had to think of something. Despite the glare that resulted from his command, it probably wasn't too intimidating compared to Fearow...

"Feeear?" The bird spoke up, confusingly. A bit shocked that the Nidoran gave it the evil eye. What defiance this small thing had.

"Oh forget it, Fearow!" Jackie spoke up. "Use Drill Peck!"

The Fearow ascended a bit then dove right back down towards the Nidoran again with such haste towards the Nidoran, going in its corkscrew motion to plow through the Nidoran.

"Another drill? Um, Jackie, I don't think it's going to pierce much of anything at this rate..." Aden said, wondering if that bird or Jackie had aspirations to reach the heavens with that attack. Maybe both. "Oh well. Nidoran, give it a shot and put some spirit into it! Horn Attack!"

Nidoran gave a confused look, wondering what was going through Aden's mind this time. But maybe there was some sense. Spinning attack versus attack that could spin. Staring sharply at Fearow, he leaped at the bird and spun, horn kept outward as he went.

"Really now?" He asked. "Fearow! Mix it up with a U-turn!"

"Oh son of a..." I spoke up. Jackie is going to play the only loophole to the no-switch clause for those defending the gym. As the Fearow made its way toward the Nidoran, it ascended over the Poison pokemon and made a loop to drop down on top of Nidoran, beak first.

"You have to be kidding me!" Aden shouted. Not because of the attack; it hurt to be sure, but it wasn't quite as bad as the Drill Peck would've been. The Horn Attack, however, missed entirely. No. It was the blasted thing probably bound to make a trip away and nothing being able to be done about it. "Nidoran, get yourself ready again." He said, trying to calm himself as Nidoran got up. He had a bad feeling what was about to come in Fearow's stead.

Another Shock Wave instead, he figured. Fine enough. He started getting the attack ready again, waiting to see what would happen next.

With the attack ended, it was forced back into its ball, forcing Jackie to switch out. "Alright. Xatu! Take flight!" He shouted as he tossed out the ball onto the field.

The ball burst open and on the floor stood the Xatu with its piercing all-seeing gaze. "Xaattuuu." he spoke up.

"Ohhhh hell, here it goes." I said, now sitting up on the bench. If Aden was truly ready for this, he'd best show it now.

"Xatu, Air Cutter!" He shouted.

"Xatu!" Immediately, his wings sprung open and out comes the slicing gale towards the Nidoran.

"...Really?" Now Aden wasn't amused. Just as he feared, it was that blasted Xatu again. But between the time spent switching, there was enough time to be prepared. "Nidoran, dive out of the way and let it have it!" He called at once, trying to keep damage at a minimum. He was really going to have to act as a second pair of eyes this time.

Seeing Nidoran try and get out of the gale's path, getting grazed in the process, he let the remainder of the command go at once. "Shock Wave!" He didn't want to get reliant on the move, he really didn't. But the choices were thinning out fast.

At least Nidoran could fight this time, letting off the discharge at Xatu.

Like the Fearow before him, the Xatu felt the jolt of Nidoran's Shockwave attack pretty well. That said, it didn't show on this bird. "Xatu, go! Fly!"

The bird then kicked off the ground and ascended up off the ground and out of the Nidoran's reach.
