Uh oh... I just watched the trailer for this weeks Clone Wars and all I can say is...

THE DEATHWATCH IS BACK?

I guess the Mandalorian civil war lasted longer than we thought.

From what I read a lot of the Mandalorians are pacifist now...

Well the mandalorian population is spread over an entire sector, pretty easy for a planet or two to drift off from the parent culture.

Well they have apparently changed continuity enough that Karen Traviss quit writing Star Wars over it.

Yeah, considering how few EU writers are worth reading, that's a pretty sizable slap across the face.

Yeah well, they're bringing the Death Watch back and putting em in the traditional Beskar'gam. If they really go off base we can ignore that part of history, just like we ignore dark nest.

What's dark nest?

The three books immediately post-Vong where everyone acts as thought they're brain dead and dumb.

EDIT: Okay, just watched the episode and it seems that Lucas has done it again... and not in a good way. I'm reminded of Season 1's episode on Rodia in that we have a historically and well known aggressive culture ruled by a Pacifist government.

Ugh... and looking at Wookieepedia makes my head hurt, because the world called Mandalore in the episode isn't actually the planet Mandalore but Mandalore IV aka Kalevala, not Mandalore proper. Apparently the moon of Kalevala called Concordia is among the last places in the system with a deposit of Beskar, and is probably the last refuge of the Death Watch. Considering that Kalevala's pacifistic beliefs have apparently been rejected by the Concordian natives. I get the feeling that Kalevala is a powerless regime that only represents the Mandalorian people because its the face most palatable to the rest of the Galaxy.

So what, the Mandalorians suddenly turned into pansies? Is that the jist of all this?

Well this explains how the Empire managed to enslave Mandalore, they'd lost their mojo.

Apparently the Mandalorian colonies weren't immune to this pacifism either. Boba Fett was exiled from Concord Dawn for killing a man that raped his wife, an act that seems like a just one under the circumstances. Considering that Satine seemed to favor exile for warriors that dovetails with his treatment.

But this focus on pacifism and lack of traditional leadership (A Duchess?) would certainly have upset the old guard in many of the Clans, hence the re-emergence of Death Watch and the eventual creation of the Mandalorian Protectors. Once Mandalor falls to the rule of Suprema during the Galactic Civil War, the clans feel justified in declaring pacifism a bad philosophy and re-embracing their ancient traditions and role in the galaxy. At that point we can wipe away the embarrassment of Lucas's New Mandalorians from our memory.

I'm not a big Clone Wars fan. gonk
I've only seen the movie though.

The Clone Wars comics are really good though.

I never saw the EP myself, but I'm gonna guess I didn't miss anything.
