Hah, I just got a mental image; like a giant 18-Wheeler in space. xd
Anyway, you should be able to survive an encounter with a single, healthy freighter, assuming you've got a souped up sloop (like I assume you use) and are an excellent pilot (which Cale happens to be). As for winning, I don't know.
Hmm...the transports' size lets them soak up more damage than a relatively tiny sloop, so you're probably shooting at the engines and bridge and stuff.
The starfighters are very nasty; they are the primary tool of the Navy, after all. But, there's four of them at most, if you're going after a lone transport; if you think you can take them...
Right, the transport model might have a single torp tube (eh), but other than that...eh, chaff, and some PD blasters.
So, if you catch one alone, and take out the bridge and engines...
Actually, you'd think they'd have the bridge sunk down into the ship? Still, if you can take out the fighters, and avoid most of the PD blasts, you should be okay. Taking out the engines, isn't that the general cause for surrender?
Hmm...if you get captured, though, Chidee might have work for you. Assuming your luck lets you survive rather than booted out the airlock on charges of piracy.

Nelowulf Few are designed that way. Very stressful on the spaceframe... Is it? Huh. I didn't know that. How so? Cale, I don't know, what is a standard Superfreighter?

I just want to know what type of freighters you have.
And it should be noted that usually, super freighters are larger than capital ships. the standard "Donut" ship of the Neimodians was 3 klicks wide.

Oh. Well, in that case, they're bigger than Star Destroyers, then. It's just that I heard somewhere that Star Destroyers were the biggest ships, so...
But yeah, I'm used to cargo ships being way bigger.
Hmm, well, let me look around a bit, see what I can find about Star Wars. If you've got any tips as to where to look, that would also be nice; I'm crusing Wookieepedia.
Yeah, I saw the BFF-1, but the picture at Wookieepedia was tiny.
In the meantime, if you get tired of waiting, they're bigass cargo ships. xd
By the way, have you ever read any of the Honor Harrington books, by David Weber? Since we're talking about space battles and all, and also about armed merchants.
