You know, I never really understood that whole, one removed thing with the family tree sweatdrop On my mum's side I don't know how many cousins I have. On my dad's side thats easy, 12, I almost forgot to add the cousins that I've never met, but I couldn't tell you how old some of them are.

The first and second cousins, as well as once and twice removed, as easy to figure out. It is all taken from a common point, say your parents and their siblings.

First cousins are the children of your parents siblings. You are the next generation down from the common point.

Second cousins are your children and the children of your cousin. Here they are two generations down from the common family point.

First cousins once removed are the children of your cousin.

So what your saying is, my cousin's daughter is my first cousin, once removed? And the same with all my other cousins. What if that second cousin is older than you? Is it the same line of reasoning?

Ok Second cousins are slightly different. Age does not matter.

Second cousins are the two generations away from a central point. So would be how the your children and the children of your cousins are related.

One day I will draw this out so that it is easier to follow.
