The difference between rap and hip hop is that rap focuses more on the MC element of Hip Hop culture, while Hip Hop focuses a lot on all 4 elements on what they're rapping about and implementing one another and trying to keep hip hop as an art form.
Rap nowadays is being butchered by s**t like Lil John and..."NININI NI!! KAKAKAKA KA!" and all that. It doesn't take Hip Hop an art form.
People who rap in the Rap genre are called Rappers
People who rap in the Hip Hop genre are called MCs/Emcees.
