Ah but without a standard level of traps and devices then you can't have a standard level of trail. Or if you only build one place then the cost to transport the condemned people would be a problem. The complexity of building and running this is to high to be effective. Simple killing with a firing squad is better.

Just use natural resources of the area. that would be free as well. Plus, a firing squad, you have to buy new bullets, and the guns... not so much... And pay the squad!

But the relative cost is much lower. You save on space as well because you can just use their prison room and so you don't have to rope off anything.

Who says you have to rope off? You use the hall right outside the prisoner's room. Still works.

Sorry it would have to be roped off to stop other people from dying.

That's why it is in hte hall of the prison. Only a small amount of roping would be needed at the entrance door. That's it. Plus, it is more entertaining that way, and you don't even need the traps, just a bunch of people who volunteer because they want the guy dead.
