It didn't look as though they were getting anywhere fast, but at least there was one or two Firekin who was less interested in judging and more interested in what they had actually came here for. Information, apparently. Nili'asikari was now completely content that there was no danger, and so he sat himself down.
It has never really occured to him before, but maybe he did look odd amongst all the lions. He often tried to keep to himself, not even socialising with the other Secret Keepers at times. Because of the secrecy involved in that rank, he wasn't even sure how many Secret Keepers were still around. Nili'asikari had been here for his whole life, so as long as he lived, there would always be at least one Secret Keeper in the Kitwana'antara.
Finally, the apparent leader of the visiting Firekin introduced himself. A large, white male named Veru. He then went on to reveal why he was here. The Nergui. Nili'asikari tilted his head and looked towards Modya. As the Queen's father and the former King, he was also aware of the blue wild dog's true role within the group. Both he and the Firekin seemed reluctant to mention the visitors by name, which was a bit strange. Without a name, how were they to know that their enemies were one and the same? Still, there must've been a reason for this, and so Nili'asikari kept his mouth shut.
It seemed as though Ukuba's words struck a chord with the Kitwana'antara, as a few of them offered him small but grateful smiles. Although the Hongshan and the Firekin were much more alike than the Kitwana'antara were with either of them, he still knew what it felt like to be regarded with unkind eyes, and those that were unwilling to accept their usefulness. It wasn't fair, and although he wasn't at all hurt by such prejudice, it still wasn't particularly nice.
He offered a small smile of his own towards Nisi and Nuria, who took his words to heart and chose to keep their opinions mostly to themselves at that point. Hopefully this would prove that their intentions were good, even if they had been a bit taken aback by the 'variety' of the Kitwana'antara members.
After Veru introduced himself and revealed what they were here for, this looked as though they were going to progress quickly. The Vizier known as Modya confirmed that they had had such visitors, causing Ukuba to frown. It was the Nergui, it had to be. But what could they want with such a strange bunch as the Kitwana'antara? He didn't have much time to consider this, as suddenly one of the female Kitwana'antara members approached him.
He blinked, quite shocked by her boldness, although he found himself quite relieved that she didn't move too close. Although the Firekin had information that the disease was only transfered through blood, they couldn't be too careful. The idea of not being able to return to his brother actually horrified him. Where she was stood right now though seemed fine.
She spoke so strangely, Ukuba couldn't help but smile. As the common tongue wasn't his first language, occasionly he would get his words jumbled up. That was nothing like how this female spoke, as she proclaimed everything as if she was telling a story. It was quite endearing actually. Continuing to smile, he offered her a polite bow of his head. "Pleased to meet you Netravati. I am Ukuba." It seemed as though she was asking his permission to add him to a story, or tell a story about him? If anything, it was him who wished to know more about her and her Pride, but now wasn't the time for any of that. He took a single step closer to her, so that he didn't have to speak so loudly. "Perhaps after this meeting is over, you can tell me one of your stories."
At that point, another member of the Kitwana'antara intervened, putting herself between the charming bard and Ukuba. She revealed herself to be immune, which caused the dark red male to gasp. "There are those among you that do not suffer from the disease?" Well, that was new information, and incredibly useful information at that. How could a disease pick and choose who suffered from it? And why is it that it hadn't spread to all members? Perhaps the information about the disease only spreading through blood and saliva was actually true.
Ukuba now wanted nothing more than to sit down with Netravati the Bard and her friend and talk, but once again, his mind prompted him to disregarded his curiousity for now. He knew what the Nergui were capable of, what they could do to even the strongest group of fighters. If the Nergui really had their eyes set on the Kitwana'antara, they were doomed if the Firekin didn't do something to help. He looked towards his fellow Firekin. As soon as it was confirmed that the Nergui had been here, that would be when things got deadly serious.

"Ukuba! Strange traveller from the sands." She nodded as if in approval and took another small step forwards. She did not know it yet but it was very likely that she, too, was immune. Though strangely she was going to be deeply upset about that when she came to realise the truth of the matter. "Ukuba would like to hear a story of our lands? Netravati seems eager to do so, although some might not be so happy--"
And then Tara was there and Netravati's face fell a little as she was pushed back a few steps. She allowed it, though, her expression the only real sign of her disappointment. "Might not be?" She ached softly again. No, no, the sickness was just slow in her, that was all. In any case, to Ukuba's question of immunity, her head sank and she replied: "Yes, some of the unlucky children of Pestilence are deprived of her touch."
And then, talk of stories later brightened her spirits and she bobbed her head eagerly, casting a look back across the crowd, surprised to hear herself being addressed by a huge red and white female - Seide. She wasn't wanting to hear stories? Well that was a shame. "Okay...later, later." She seemed to settle after that. A little bit anyway.
"It looks like it is time for serious talk." It seemed everyone wanted to visit their pride these days! "And all around, stern faces settled into place, mirrored from one to the other.
Where was the queen, anyway? Was Mittere some sort of stand in, now?

"They implied violence," Mittere answered slowly, watching Veru, whom she took to be the leader of this...expedition. "Implied that should we not ally with them, we would be in an unfortunate situation." She wouldn't tell them how the Nergui had been answered. Not yet.
Truth be told, that was the only part of the encounter she'd been present for. Hence why she'd rather Nawiri was here. Though the Firekin stood with warrior's bearing, they seemed to be actively trying to get through this peaceably. Thus she was fairly certain that there wouldn't be too much danger to the Queen.
Not to mention the young Princess and Prince the grey lioness had adopted were probably being hidden even now, if only as a last resort.
She considered adding to her words, telling the strangers how the Nergui had wanted to use the disease as a weapon against the world. But...perhaps that would be to tell too much. Damn, she just wasn't good at diplomacy. She was here in case a fight broke out, let Modya and Nawiri handle the rest.

Veru looked to Seide, considering the tone of these strange lions. So the Nergui had threatened them? A far cry different from the interactions between the Hongshan and the Firekin. What caused the different approach? Were they after someone in the group- or did they think that time and fear would win out? There was no point in hurting potential allies, he supposed.
Still, a break in the pattern. That was worth some caution.
"You don't sound pleased about the offer," Veru said. "We've never heard of the Nergui...uh, playing nice. So to speak."
Rather unceremoniously, Veru sat down. He had a thought, and decided to go with it. "I'm going to guess that you rejected the offer? If you had joined with them, it wouldn't have been any surprise to see us here. The least new allies can do is inform the other about their enemies."
Unless it was just a gambit to get the firekin to fight with the Kitwana. Truthfully Veru had no idea if the nergui suspected they were tracking them... but it was certainly more fun to think so. The nergui had a plan at work. If this pride had joined them, surely they'd at least be privvy to it.

Making threats was playing nice? The thought of what they must normally do set Modya's old heart to racing, and he couldn't keep the dismay from leaking onto his face. Not only that, but as warily as this male spoke of them, and considering violence seemed to be the norm for the Nergui, not to mention how powerfully built these lions were... the implications of what they now faced made the blood drain from the Vizier's face. If all this was so, his pride was in mortal danger.
His haunches dropped to the ground suddenly as well. Outwardly it could have been viewed as Modya mirroring Veru in a show of commonality, but in truth he wasn't sure his old legs could hold him anymore in the aftermath of his thoughts. He was going to accomplish nothing this way, though, so he steeled himself, visibly smoothing his features and relaxing his tensed muscles. Since these mighty Firekin were enemies of the Nergui, perhaps there was hope after all. Alliances could be forged in opposition to the one they had been threatened with originally. That was, however, beyond his jurisdiction to negotiate.
He could, however, confirm the identity of their common enemy. "So, you are enemies of the Nergui?" This time, rather than a careful lack of inflection, he allowed a note of hope and interest to enter his voice, a communication that confirmed Veru's guess without directly admitting it. He still was feeling cautious about what exactly to admit to this group. It was entirely possible that, though enemies of the Nergui, they were equally ruthless and evil. Who was to say that the Firekin would not be as eager to use the disease as a weapon upon the Nergui? Such an idea was horrendous, but this was what his years warned him of.

It seemed his comment hadn't been heard, but Veru repeated it, so Spaki didn't mind. Yes, indeed, it was looking like the Kitwana had not formed an allegiance with the Nergui, and he almost let himself feel relieved about that. But it just wasn't time to relax yet, and he couldn't bring himself to sit down, as the other male had.
"If this disease is very contagious," Spaki said, but his voice was low, and his face turned away somewhat. He didn't mean for the Kitwana to hear him, he just wanted the other firekin to think about this a bit. "And the nergui attack them, they might become infected." Some lions might think of that as a good thing, but Spaki certainly didn't, and his voice made that clear. Just as the firekin were supposed to avoid contact with these lions, they'd be forced to avoid contact with the Nergui. And how could they fight a war like that? What if the nergui had already been infected?
He blinked and put his attention back to the Kitwana lions themselves. "Yes, we are enemies of the Nergui." Perhaps he was getting ahead of himself in disclosing this information to them, and maybe Seide would reprimand him for it. But Veru had indicated as much himself, and Spaki felt it was time to put their cards on the table so they could start really getting things worked out.

There seemed to be a little more unity and courtesy in the Firekin mostly due to the actions of one of their lionesses. One could see the creatures of both sides – well, most of them… - were painfully aware of the consequences of a fight. Dumaka decided he liked the one who called himself Ukuba and his reaction to the discovery of immunity in the Kitwana’antara was rather interesting. Was it something that strange to an outsider who obviously already knew about the disease that affected most members of his pride? Well, apparently, it was.
“It’s not common but some of us are not affected.” It took some effort not to laugh. Even Dumaka could tell the outsiders might have difficulty accepting the solemn and sorrowful way that Netravati had used to speak of the immune population. Of course, the non-lions were also unaffected but at this point Dumaka had decided not to give any more pieces of information by accident even if it seemed the Nergui were their common enemy.
Ears pulled forward, Dumaka listened to the words being spoken from both sides. They were finally being clear about how they felt about the Nergui and Dumaka took a deep breath and relaxed considerably when one of the Firekin finally spoke the words they all wanted to hear.

Anza's attention was drawn back to the group as the tone of the event changed, some of the potential violence leeching out of the atmosphere. She frowned as she settled back to sit, mirroring the leaders. Violence always had a sort of draw to it, when the air was full of tension and potential... but what was starting here was a far more subtle thing. She was disappointed in the first being abandoned, but now there was a new sort of potential growing, ever so slowly.
The beginning of violence was so easy... but this sort of beginning could be more satisfying once it was up and going. The goddess settled herself and smoothed the cross expression from her face to replace it with something more expectant and eager. She gathered her power to herself and prepared to wait, and watch, the proceedings. No one would interfere now that the course had been chosen, not unless it came from the present group.

What the nergui would want, seemed to be evident, least to Ayhas.
They wanted to fight a dirty war.
Ayhas did not know what the extent of the disease was, how fatal it was, but if the nergui fought and survived with the disease, they could pass it. But where this pride was in one location, and did not want to form an allegiance with the nergui, was it because they did not want it to spread?
If the nergui wanted to leave, Ayhas noted, they could. The lions here did not appear to be true warring types as the firekin, and could not withstand to the terror the nergui had forced upon the hongshan.
The nergui could cause a plague...and with the water in much less supply to the firekin, even neighboring prides, depending on the potency of the disease, the end result could be devastating.
All of this, in thought, was horrific. BUt Ayhas did not want to jump into conclusions.
The lions of this pride had to say exactly why they wished to not stand with the nergui, to perhaps, if possible, put Ayhas' mind at rest.

All this time Sliabh had stood with Dumaka and Modya silently, listening to his Vizier's words and quietly taking in the firekins varying reactions. He kept an eye on those few tat had taken exceptional dislike to his younger daughter, but with the agitation calming down an turning toward more immediate matters, he let the emotions blow away on the chill, wind-touched breeze.
Thankful when Netravati was gently restrained by Tara, he was never the less pleased when the white-coated firekin male, apparently named Ukuba, seemed to take a liking to her. Of course he was wary of these strangers, but Sliabh had always believed that talking and listening to another's experiences widened ones own horizon, and if they were to get over this hostility, a little story-sharing seemed like a good road to follow. He also couldn't help but wish for his daughter to widen her personal horizons, a far harder task unless she proved to be immune, something that she certainly hated the thought off.. so any out-of-pride lions that were willing to talk with her were welcome, to an extent.
When several of the gathered lions on both sides calmed and took their seats, Sliabh shifted into a more relaxed stance but stayed on his paws. A little height amid the generously sized visitors was not a bad thing, if only to keep those less even-tempered individuals under watch. Caoilainn had crossed over the boarder and slipped in among her own pride members as they conversation moved forwards in a stilted and careful manner. Yet she herself stayed quiet, having offered a good segment of the information she had discovered on her mission. Slipping up on Sliabh's other side she settled back on her rump, looking quite small beside her giant of a father but still easily as big or bigger than most regular males.
She had intended on going directly to Nawari and reporting her successful reconnaissance mission, and then going to her den and retrieving her young cubs from their nanny. Siobhán and Uzochi were her life. Adorable little bundles of pure joy that made everything else worth the struggle. She had understood, that fateful day of their arrival, why Sliabh had such a large family, and while she wasn't intending on trying to match his impressive legacy, she did hope to have at least one or two more litters, but only after she found her true lifemate. The black male had been charming and fascinating and so very different to what she had always known, but she wanted a father for her sons just like she had always had her own father in Sliabh. Shaking her thoughts to one side and knowing she would go see her two young troublemakers soon, she settled down to listen to this impromptu meeting. It had seemed a lifetime since the drought had struck his homeland. He had been but a youth, without his mane and full of whimsical dreams. And the assurance that the water would be back tomorrow. That had not come to pass and as his mane grew thick and dark, and his body had grown to match those adults all around him, he had done as any true firekin did, took on the challenge of the drought and made it something to overcome. That was why he was here. Having been too young when talks about first taking over other pridelands for their water ad started, he had grown in the interim and had been eligible to join up for this second major move in their strategy. Fully grown and skilled int he ways of battle, he was still young and eager to prove himself. Yet... he was not drive to battle as the method of doing so. This visit to the Kitwana'antara had awoken something in him he had forgotten about. The desire for information, for making informed decisions, of simple knowledge about different prides and places and cultures. Of course he was nervous about these strange lions who held the key to all their deaths, but he was also interested. How did they survive? How did they find the strength to go on day after day?And now after the latest rush of words from both sides.. how did some of them remain so healthy and immune? So many questions and too few answers... Standing near the back, well out of the way but close enough to watch and listen to the main speakers, he rested one paw easily, content to absorb all this new information and not realy worried about any kind of violence coming to pass. Yes there were several of these Kitwana lions opposite them, but they were Firekin, and besides.. it seemed no one wanted to fight, certainly not his own pride. They didn't want to be stuck here forever.

What Veru revealed about the Nergui was rather unsettling. If making threats was their idea of 'playing nice', then what would they do when they got fed up of playing? Nili'asikari's maw curled up, baring his teeth in quiet protest. Still, the Queen had made the correct choice in refusing to give in to their demands, even with the threats.
Modya finally decided to confirm that their enemy was the Nergui. It wasn't long before one of the Firekin, not Veru, confirmed that they shared the same enemy. So now that the two groups essentially knew where they both stood, what would happen now? The ageing wild dog's ears flicked forward. Everyone had fallen strangely silent, perhaps waiting for their respective leaders to speak first. In Nili'asikari's head, the thought of an alliance was prominant. Such a pact couldn't be entered lightly however, as they knew no more about the Firekin than they did about the Nergui.
Ukuba continued to smile at Netravati. It was refreshing to see one so seemingly happy and carefree, especially in lands as ominous and dark as these. It wasn't the kind of emotion that the Firekin were exposed to very often. Even after she had been told by others to save her stories for later, she continued to narrate. She was right, it was time for serious talk.
The dark red male focused on each lion as they spoke. First Veru, then Modya. A light frown graced his face at the mention of the Nergui. The Nergui could completely demolish a pride such as this one with ease. It wouldn't even provide a decent challenge for the more brutal members of the Nergui. They could take what they wanted, the disease, and then use it against the Firekin. Unless the Firekin stopped them.
"The Nergui must not be allowed to make good on their threats. If they do, it would not be good for either of our Prides."

Turning away from the other Bardess as she wandered, thought wise, he caught sign of the lioness in pink that he was acquainted it - being the mate of the first lioness who had introduced herself to him when he had found his home from the Mizimu. Clearing his throat, he gave her a soft nod, a welcome. "Mittere." He murmured, before looking at the groups gathering to talk. At least there was a bit of diplomacy.
He wasn't ready to sit down like the others, and, allowed himself to continue standing, listening to everyone around him. "At least it seems diplomatic now." He addressed to the pink lioness.
-----------------------------
The threat did not go over the little god's head. Turning over, he gave the goddess on the ground a sharp look, his visible silver eye smoldering with almost a challenge. He did not intend to dispute immortal boundaries, but he wasn't going to let her walk over him, just because he was smaller.
Slithering in to the crowd a little more, he took a seat next to the wild dog in the pride, looking over the group.
"This situation seems to be very interesting." He offered, hoping to gather information. He would not leave now.

This was surprising news. The Nergui were apparently, if she read the strangers' words correctly, not known for talking before acting. This was interesting news...had they so feared the disease they wished to make into a weapon? And if that was true...did they merely wish to use the Kitwana'antara as front line shock troops to spread sickness and keep the Nergui warriors from having to deal with most of their enemies?
She might be supposing too much, but somehow the pink lioness doubted she could ever overestimate the Nergui.
At least the Firekin had now confirmed that they too were enemies of the Nergui. Well, if that wasn't a recipe for an alliance, Mittere would eat a rock. It would be fitting for the Nergui's plan of allying with the Kitwana against their enemies (she guessed that meant the Firekin) to backfire so completely. She nodded slightly in agreement with Ukuba. Using plague as a weapon was the lowest trick she'd ever heard of, and no honorable warrior would fight in such a manner.
Blue eyes glanced over at the black and blue lion who'd spoken her name. She'd seen him around a bit, he seemed to be a friend of Tarafa's. Not a warrior by nature, he'd been steadfastly determined to do his part in her lessons. She could admire that in a lion. "Moto'nafsi," she replied quietly, acknowledging his presence.

Nawiri'chiwa had been made aware of the others presence not long after Dumaka's call went out. The small bird familiar that was so often over looked as part of the scenery was a perfect and unobtrusive messenger. Those few moments that left her wondering whether the alert would lead to blood shed had her highly concerned. So when she found her summons by the young lioness, Jani, she was quick to make her move.
As she had met the strangers that had threatened her pride, so it was the young queen found it fitting she might meet these new strangers that came. She was still uncertain and unsure why such a group might come to their lands, and deep down she did fear the risk of an attack but . . . . those were risks they took with every visitor, wasn't it?
Not just those in groups.
It didn't take her long to see the large gathering of strangers and familiar faces facing one another. There was an unspoken line between them, neither seemingly wanting to trust the others. The strangers must fear their disease. . . and her own kin likely didn't trust the large strangers. And they were quite large, at least from what she could see.
Not desiring to make a fuss, and never one for a showy entrance, the petite female quietly moved her way in from behind. She brushed reassuringly against a few, glad to see that the strangers before them did not look so outwardly aggressive, not like the 'ambassadors' she had met with earlier.
It seemed a discussion was taking place, quietly and slowly, at any rate. Unfortunately though, having only just arrived, she found she really had very little knowledge outside of the initial summons, though . . . if these large strangers were up to no good, she doubted very much that things would be so . . . . calm.
"Forgive me for arriving so late to the discussion and intterupting," she spoke, both to the strangers and the rest of her pride. She dipped her head apologetically, before glancing from the sea of red, white, and black before her as she approached where Modya and Mittere lingered. "I see our guests have caused quite the commotion." And they were guests . . . visitors. . . . Strangers, of course, but if they were there to attack or cause trouble . . .well. . ..
Contingency plans had been in line, and though there was a large gathering of Kitwana members before them, there were even more away from the borders. There was a slim chance she would have been summoned if battle was imminent. At least she . . . hoped such was the case.

Veru nodded in agreement with Ukuba and Spaki. Judging by the look of relief on some of their faces, it was welcomed news. It was welcomed news to him as well! If it hadn't been just about to rain, he might have even felt his good mood restored. "Not just enemies. Our regents have declared war on the group. Tracking them down, however, has proven a bit difficult. We suspected they might be infiltrating down in the Southlands."
But truthfully, they had no idea how far or how wide. Or how many prides may have been issued similar promises of allegiance.
"All we can tell is that their actions here seem to be a bit different. Different from how the attacks in the Motoujamii and Hongshan prides were."
A smile crossed his face, but more of the nervous sort that he disliked wearing. Shouldering responsibility was not something Veru did easily. In the background, a new face was approaching in the crowd. Someone of importance it seemed. Perhaps their leader, or another Vizer? [How many Vizers would a pride have? Was that plural? He'd have to harass someone about that later.]
"I don't think we can stress enough the mistake it would be joining forces with them. We have those among us that can testify to their cruelty and madness."
