[[ Lmao, That's one way of looking at it. ]]
Nisha glanced over her shoulder briefly, relieved to see that Kifu had followed. She didn't want to be alone right now. After all the let down, and the stress from not finding the babies yet, she was certain that he was the only thing keeping her sane right now.
She continued to follow the scattered scent as best she could, not an easy task thanks to the howling wind and relentless downpour. She could only imagine what her paws were going to look like after this. Probably just big chunks of mud. Ugh.

((I kind of want to start looking at how spectacularly Stats is failing me...))
Kifu resorted back to his ears. The wind was not helping, but maybe it would carry something with it, a scent or sound. It did not; the dog was almost to the point where he just wanted to nap. There had not been much time since the dance ended and now. But Nisha was going to keep looking until all the babies were found, and she was too nice to leave lonely.
A branch snapped, not too far off. The rain had soaked everything thoroughly, so even old wood should not snap too easily. “Did you hear that?” He flicked his nose in the direction it had come from.

Nisha had heard the branch crack, and she nodded in response. Then she remembered that Kifu wouldn't have seen it. "Yes," she whispered. "Let's head over there, but try to be quiet. If there is a baby genet we don't want to startle it. All we need is to try to chase something small through this weather."
As quietly as she could, she padded toward the broken branch, worried that whatever was over there - assuming there was - would hear the squelching sounds the mud made as it sucked at her paws.
[[ I'm getting closer, but really that just makes it worse. XD; ]]

Kifu could be stealthy, sometimes. Specifically when he knew the terrain he was on and the weather conditions were perfect. This was not one of those situations, but he would at least try. He crouched down, hoping his ducked head would not hit any branches along the way.
It failed, but not as bad as it could of. His paws still tracked in the mud, dragging along a small branch that rattled. It was better than if he had just stepped on it and snapped it himself, but it still rustled leaves while he went. Perhaps if the genet was hiding in the brush the baby would pop out?

It took a moment for Nisha to realize that Kifu had a branch stuck to him. In the tumult of the storm, the noise was hardly audible. Looking down, she spotted the stick and quickly used one forepaw to hook it out from under the wild dog. "That should feel better," she whispered. Or more, spoke normally, but it was just about as loud as a whisper on a normal day.
They had almost reached the broken branch - a huge, leafy branch that was several tail-lengths long. And offered many places for a baby genet to hide.

Kifu nodded, the offending object was no longer scratching at his already tender paws. The dog really should not of taken on such a task after the dance; he need time to recover. It was too late for that now, though. He was far too determine at this point. He swiftly took to the branch with his nose. Sniffing up one length of it, it was a lot larger than he had thought. It was more like an entire tree limb. Obviously, a little baby genet could be hiding anywhere under it. Kifu wasn't getting a strong scent off of anything inparticular. He straightened out again, "Got anything?"

"Mama!" The pitiful voice was small and scared, drifting on the howling wind. Which way was it coming from? There's a pile of rocks in one direction, and a clump of bushes in the other. Lightning flashes, illuminating everything for a brief second. Did you see something? Hurry, go look!

((You're taking pity on us, aren't you?))
Kifu heard a little cry on the wind, a little voice calling for its mother. He didn't bother to ask his new friend if she heard, he just leaped over the branch and bolted for it. He sniffed the air, but the rain was confusing all his senses. He hated this weather, it was only making things worse for the little babies. There was a... something in the air, ozone perhaps, along with a loud clap of thunder that completely killed his ears. He had no clue which direction the cries were coming from, so he just went right, apparently to a bush? He stuck his nose right in it, seeing if there were any scents to help him identify if this was the right spot or not.

[[ I would take pity on us, lmao ]]
Her wild dog companion obviously heard the cry at the same time Nisha did. They both leapt over the branch almost in unison, running in the direction the voice had come from. In the brief flash of light the storm provided, Nisha could have sworn she had seen something.. but maybe her mind was playing tricks on her in her desperation.
They both separated, staying within earshot and line of sight, but searching slightly different areas. They had to be close.. they had to be.

Kifu took a deep whiff of the bush and got nothing of use. He pulled his now dripping head out the bush. The rain must of collected on the leaves, and it had all come crashing down on him. Whatever could of been there was either gone, and the trail masked.
He held his sigh of defeat in before finding his way back to Nishata. "You heard it too then," it was more of a statement than a question. "Did you see anything?"

Nisha backed out from under the branch; in her desperate confusion, she had wriggled beneath it to see if there was any sign of the baby. Shaking out her pelt - kind of useless, really, considering the rain was still coming down steadily- she turned back to Kifu with a sigh.
"I thought I did but.. there's nothing here now. This is becoming very frustrating." As she spoke, Nisha repeatedly scored the ground with one extended claw, basically scribbling in the mud.
She looked into Kifu's eyes and recognized weariness. They were both tired. How much longer can we continue?

((I feel like my replies are getting shorter and shorter...))
Kifu shook his head, but tried to keep a smile on his face. Still, his tail sank; he was exhausted, but not ready to give up. "I really don't know." He did not want to dishearten his companion though. His tail perked up again, curled around, he may of even forced it to wag a little bit, "We can continue till we find them, right?"

[[ Don't worry, mine are, too. Hard to think of any more elaborate ways to say "They kept searching". XD; ]]
Nisha smiled warmly at Kifu; his efforts at keeping the mood light did not go unnoticed. She was more grateful for his company in that moment than she had been all night.
"Even if we can't, we have to," Her exhaustion was plain in her mew, but so was her resolve. She would search until she collapsed if she had to.

There was definitely more tail wagging, "Yes, that, exactly. Exhaustion is for the weak or some silly saying like that."
Kifu hopped back over the log, finally, for the first time since the dance, landing gracefully. "I'm going to check back around this thing. We heard something, even if its gone, maybe it left a trace..."

Nisha followed Kifu with a lot less enthusiasm, preferring not to leap if she didn't need to. Once she was back on the other side she took a moment to just stand and take in the surroundings; every scent, every sound, every sensation however small. Slowly, subconsciously, she started to pad forwards, her body following some trail she had picked up before she even realized that she had.
