"Audino!" Audrey chirped. I felt a strange sense of relief, which I finally realized must've been Rala's. She was the Emotion Pokemon. Or at least one in her line was.

I was knocked out of that thought when I felt a building frustration. That's when I noticed Rala getting Doubleslapped by Audrey. The real Rala, not just one of her clones. Did Keiko start the fight?

I shook my head and focused on the fight ahead of me. But before I could give Rala an order, she had enough of being slapped and used Confusion on her own. I was surprised by the amount of Psychic power the little Ralts was letting out, but then it was clearly fueled by emotion. Or at least, it felt that way.

I couldn't help but smirk. Rala was clearly feeling better after she vented on Audrey, but it wasn't that. I saw the power Rala was capable of. She'd grown a lot in the small time I had her, and now I was hooked. I wanted her to get stronger.

I also felt a bit of uncertainty, but I could tell that was from Rala. She didn't want to hurt Keiko's Pokemon, but... wait, could she sense my feelings, too?

A quick Pound to the face told me that I wasn't paying enough attention to the battle. Of course, that Pound hit Rala's face, not mine. "Hit her again!" I heard Keiko say.

Right, no more distractions. I could explore this new link later. "Give 'em a taste of your singing voice," I told Rala.

I could almost feel her smirk as she opened her tiny mouth, Fairy-type energy spewing out and covering Keiko's side of the field. Both Keiko and Audrey had to cover their ears. Audrey looked like she was really hurt, too. Granted , she didn't have the weaknesses that Hera had, but Audrey hadn't been trained near as much as Rala had.

"Okay, that's enough," I said to both Rala and Keiko, the former of which stopping her attack immediately. "Let's continue this tomorrow."

Keiko nodded, although she still felt uncomfortable from the earache she recieved. Both of us recalled our Pokemon before leaving the Super Training Room for the main lobby.

Tristen found his way to the training room once again and got started with the super training program. The boy remembered the last time he was in here doing such a regimen: trying to get his Blitzle out of the effects of the shadow virus. It wasn’t a kosher time. The Blitzle was hell bent on trying to trample the boy with everything it had. Tristen managed to avert the electrical zebra for a long time, leaving Blitzle to punish himself getting beaned by the various super training projectiles getting fired from the various targets while it chased Tristen all over the place. While the corrupted spirit was still willing, the body couldn’t and the tiny zebra collapsed from exhaustion. It wasn’t how the Super Training program was intended to be used, but at the very least it done the job, albeit in a rather janky way. Then again, the boy doubted the Super Training program was meant for Shadow Pokemon in the first place.

With the room set up again, Tristen gave a hard sigh and tossed the Pokeball out in the center of the room. With a flash of light, out came the walking inferno that was the Magmar. Quickly, out from the boy’s pocket, Tristen popped a scent in the room, a Vivid scent, which the potent odor from the scent bottle even made the Electrike hybrid flinch for a couple of seconds. “Wow, that’s…strong…” Tristen said. He would then toss the bottle aside to let the odor fill the room to hopefully get Magmar on the fast track to purification. Either way, shadowfied as Magmar probably is, even it couldn’t even resist the rather strong Vivid scent. It felt…a little at ease, actually. Perhaps kind of euphoric. It was working; a welcome change compared to the safari trip. Hopefully this could work out in the boy’s favor. How long that will last though was going to be a whole other matter in and of itself.

“Alright, Magmar. Let’s get this over with.” Tristen said to the living furnace. “Time to battle.” Tristen said, moving back to the console and getting the program started. Out from the center of the room, a target came forth, a balloon shape that floated and lofted about as such. “Alright, you’re fighting that.” The Magmar stared, rather blank. “Flamethrower!” Tristen then commanded. It warranted nothing out of the Magmar. “Uh, please? Flamethrower?” Tristen then asked. The boy stared confused for a second. He’s sure that the Magmar was out of Hyper Mode, so it shouldn’t be going out right disobedient yet. “Magmar, you might want to try something, that thing is set to-“

Before the boy had a chance to finish, the target on a time delay activated, firing one shot that looked akin to a soccer ball and beans the Magmar upside the head. That being said, the Shadow Magmar didn’t even flinch. “…I tried to warn you.” The boy said, the ball bounces off into a roll off to the side of the room. That said, the Magmar made it clear, it was numb to pain. No different to how Blitzle was. It was just the matter of wearing it out, however long it was. Problem is, just as back during the safari, the Magmar was going to be rather uncooperative. “Do Shadow Pokemon even know how to dodge? Are they even able to do that? You’re acting like Blitzle when it was a shadow Pokemon too.” Tristen said.

The Magmar looked back towards Tristen for a brief second then back towards the balloon shaped object. “Flamethrower, please? Come on, it’s going to-“ Another shot fired from the balloon, pelting the Magmar once again.

“Maaagmar.”

“I told you, now how about-“ The Magmar, without any other command, did attack the target in front of him. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the attack that Tristen cared for. As the walking inferno charged, the its flames started to put off a shadowy aura about it, charging full force and destroying the target.

“Not Shadow Rush! No! No! Listen! You can’t keep trying to do that!” Tristen said. It was official, this was harder to contend with than even Blitzle, as if the Safari Contest wasn’t already a big indicator of that. The Magmar made it clear; it wasn’t wanting any part of what Tristen had to offer. It wanted to be back with its original owner. Tristen looked back towards the console, thinking that he could perhaps go about the same thing with Blitzle. To keep avoiding the Shadow Pokemon until it wears out while it tries to fight the pandemonium that was the total onslaught. It was the boy’s only shot, he thought. The boy stepped back, getting ready to move. However one other thing dwelled on him. The closer to purification the Magmar was, the harder and the more unpredictable it was, making it excruciating to contend with it. Considering that Magmar wasted no time with Shadow Attacks, he had to be getting close already as is.

Tristen rushed off to the console and started the program once again and just as with the Blitzle before it, a great deal of balloon like targets appeared all around the Magmar. Once done, Tristen went about to hide about the crowd. “Maaaaaag…” The Shadow Pokemon growled out. Its aura started to flare up once more then with a mighty roar, the Magmar unleashed its Shadow Wave in the room. Immediately, the targets started to get destroyed in extremely rapid succession which caught Tristen up in the attack as well. Shadow Pokemon it was, but unlike the Blitzle, this thing was no one’s fool. In one fell swoop, the targets were all gone and the boy was on the floor writhing in pain that washed over him like an unholy flood.

“Ohhhh…ugh…I forgot he could do that…” Tristen pushed off the floor, looking back towards the Magmar, taking out a Pokeball, the Magmar’s ball. He was about to call this training session over now; this Magmar was totally out of control now and it hasn’t even achieved Hyper Mode yet, that he could tell. But then he stopped. That would only be running from the problem when there was no true need to do so yet. He didn’t want to get his other Pokemon out, however, in fear that he’d get another Pokemon infected in his line-up. Granted, he could use Blitzle and Weavile, but he wasn’t sure how long they’d last against this monster inferno. Tristen knew that he only had to last a bit longer against the Magmar. By any means.

“Alright, Magmar…you win. You want to show me what you can do?” The boy said, stashing the Magmar’s Pokeball back on his person. “So far you didn’t show me anything special yet, just a lot of stupid stuff that Zyra made you do at some time. You want to fight me so badly and go back to that gas-bag because maybe she could find a challenge for you to fight? You got your challenge right here!” The boy said. The Magmar stared at the kid with its seemingly soul-less stare, but then it got into position. It was getting ready to fight and take Tristen as a threat. It started to recall the electricity that coursed through it that managed to pacify it back at the Inactive volcano. It was going to fight, and it was going to win.

“Maaaaagmaaaarr…” It breathed out, a smoky aura coming out from its duck-bill like mouth.

“Yea, that’s what you want. A fight, right? That’s all you want. Something to fight and beat up badly because there’s nothing else.” Tristen said. “If you think you can really do it, then try it.”

The Magmar took to Tristen’s provocation, rushing for the boy with its Shadow Rush. With the Magmar having its target lined up, it seemed sure that the inferno was ready to run it over. The boy stood his ground. “You’d gotta do better than that!” Tristen shouted, his crests fiercely lighting up, unleashing a mighty Flash in the training room. The Magmar yelped, stopping in his tracks and rubbing its eyes. Even shadow Pokemon isn’t able to take getting blinded that well, it seemed. It was enough to keep the Magmar preoccupied as Tristen moved about elsewhere in the training room.

“MagMARRRR!” The Magmar shouted, not getting a reply out of the boy. The Magmar stopped rubbing its eyes, trying to look about the room, which was still a bleached out blur to him. “Mag…MAAG…” The Magmar then breathed in then exhaled a dense Smog in the room which started to fill the air gradually but surely. Tristen, as much as he tried, couldn’t hide for long. The boy covered his nose from the smell and tried to breath in small so the fumes wouldn’t agitate him that quick to allow the training room time enough to vent the gas out. Unfortunately, it wasn’t fast enough. The Smog was that overbearing, the Electrike kid started to cough and gag on the fumes, his eyes tearing up as he retched and trying to find clean air.

The Magmar perked up, hearing the boy gasp out. The Magmar turned around, unleashing a massive Flamethrower towards the boy. The boy’s eyes widened, then braced for impact, turning his back towards the flames and hoping his training clothes would take most of the damage. Unfortunately, that would be the least of his concerns as the toxic cloud still looming about the boy. The cloud lights up then finally explodes, sending the boy head over heels, hitting the floor on the other side of the room in great pain. “AAAAUGH!!” The boy yelled out.

The Magmar rubbed its eyes once again, trying to regain its vision. It took it a few more seconds, seconds the boy tried to use to get back on his feet. At this point, he was aching all over. This wasn’t like with Blitzle where it had a one track mind. This Magmar actually could act on its own if it had to, not too unlike how the Snagems taught their Pokemon to work if they were separated. And crazier still, this thing was a shadow Pokemon, something built for solely battle and nothing more. This Magmar was trained to be dropped in a middle of a group, perhaps, and leave it to lay waste. It made sense to the kid. The incident just before Zygarde in Alola, the battle with Cipher in Mossdeep, and heck, a few of the fights on the Inactive Volcano…Magmar itself was literally a volcano that could explode, rather on command or remotely. Using Shadow wave or using the Smog and Flamethrower combination to make an explosion, just as Zyra had it do before and Tristen, himself, had it to do…it all made sense to him.

The Magmar managed to get seeing again, seeing the kid brace himself up against the wall, wearily. Even with that figured out, that didn’t necessarily change the here and now. The kid was in trouble in this training room. This Magmar apparently was still raring to go. “Yea, I got to stop this now…this has gone too far…” Tristen said, pushing off the wall and getting ready once again. Tristen got ready, the Magmar made its way off for Tristen, the boy standing his ground once again. The Magmar once again charged full force towards him with Shadow Rush. Tristen dove off to the side, hoping the Magmar would get carried away by his momentum and crash into the wall. Tristen managed to get into a tumble and look back, seeing the Magmar skidding to a stop, not fooled by the stunt that would have easier tricked Blitzle while it was shadowfied numerous times. That said, there was a backup plan.

Tristen sparked with electricity and fired off the electrical pulse towards the Magmar, the boy’s Thunder Wave to cripple the Magmar once again to subdue it. The electrical wave washed over the Magmar, seizing up the Magmar’s muscles, making it have a hard time getting moving. “That ought to calm you down a bit.” Tristen said. The Magmar’s aura flares up once more, the Magmar unleashing shadow like tentacles towards Tristen. It was a Shadow Hold. Tristen quickly backs away, refusing to get entangled by the attack again. But as he done so, the Magmar’s aura flares to its maximum intensity. The Thunder Wave suddenly started to act like it was not having an effect anymore. The Magmar achieved Hyper Mode. “Why am I not surprised!?” Tristen said. With now Magmar finally in Hyper Mode, Tristen was now in a more dire position to put this Magmar down, but considering that this Magmar is still relatively fresh and he couldn’t afford to take anymore burns than like he did back during the Safari Contest, Tristen only had one option that he had. The Magmar stomped one step by the next, fighting through the paralysis, hell bent on putting Tristen down.

Tristen stepped back, his body crackling with electricity. The most he figures, he only had one shot, but he had to make sure that he could get Magmar with it. The Magmar, noticing the sparks flying off the boy, he stopped. The shadow Pokemon remembered where that lead to. It got ready, bracing itself. Tristen rushed for the Magmar but as it did, the Magmar wasn’t going anywhere. The Magmar with its soul-less eyes continued to watch, closer and closer Tristen drew. Where at this point the last time Tristen dove onto Magmar and shocked him into submission, the Magmar stomped forward and leapt after the boy, its body cloaked in the aura of a Shadow Rush. Tristen dove down and slid under the tackle as Magmar flew over, all in a second, the Magmar caught unaware.

Tristen pulled to his feet as the Magmar flopped to the ground, trying to work its way around to manage get back up off the floor, the paralysis complicating the means to get back up. “Sorry Magmar…but that there is why Zyra is a really bad trainer.” Tristen said, his body lighting up with electricity, the boy bearing fangs and ready to bring what was supposed to be a training regimen to a screeching halt. “NOW STAY DOWN!” Tristen shouted, discharging what he had crashing down furiously upon the Magmar with a mighty Thunderbolt attack. The Magmar, despite it being shadow, couldn’t shrug off what was being brought down upon it, it moaning out in pain as every powerful volt drilled right into him.

After a couple of seconds, Tristen fell down to his hands and knees, still only capable of dishing out at the most a couple of Thunderbolt when extremely pushed, breathing hard from the attack. The pain that the Magmar dealt earlier that Tristen tried with all his might to ignore started to come back demanding attention. The boy cringed with every breath. He looked back towards the Magmar who was down on the ground, unmoving and face down on the floor for the moment. Tristen pushed off the ground and started to walk toward the fallen Magmar. The boy was reluctant to get too close. He made a wide arc around, trying to make sure he’s got time to avoid any attacks, provided both if Magmar is capable of attacking again and if Tristen’s got the energy to dodge.

The Magmar was still awake, agitated extremely, trying to push itself up, only to slip be rendered helpless for the moment. Tristen took out another Vivid scent. The boy tosses it aside, allowing it to fill the room once again, if anything, to get the smell of hellfire and smog out of the training room. The Magmar perked up, its eye twitching once it got a whiff of the smell once again. “I didn’t think a Shadow Pokemon could do what you did until today, you know? That is actually a lot scarier than I thought it was going to be and all the more reason to help Pokemon like you.”

“Maaar…”

“I know you might not like me right now, but just wait. Once we get you fixed up, you’ll be back to your senses, just like Blitzle was. And from there, you could be stronger than even a shadow Pokemon if you want to get there. More than what Zyra could ever do.” The Magmar was silent, not replying to the boy. The Magmar then looked over towards the boy with its glassed over eyes, wondering what it was about to do next. The boy merely just sat down as the vivid scent continued to fill the room. The boy took a deep breath then looked back towards Magmar. “I’m Tristen…” He told the Magmar. Well, they weren’t really properly introduced after all…

The day after the team returned from Orre, Keiko and I made our way to the Super Training Room, as it was quite obvious that something needed to be worked on.

"Man, it's been a while since we've been in here, huh?" Keiko smiled as we headed in.

"Been a while since I've been here," I shrugged. "Did you not come here while I was away?"

"I... didn't really think about it, to be honest," Keiko admitted. "Spent most of my time doing missions and helping the team out."

I shrugged again. "Fair enough, I guess."

"Anyway, what Pokemon did you say needed work on your team?' Keiko asked, wanting to get to the point.

I scratched my chin at the question. "Huh. I know Sparrow has another evolution in her. Sauron... I've barely used him at all, to be honest. I know Angeal and Haku have been training with each other, but I think that's more of fighting each other than trying to get stronger... they've got a bit of a rivalry going, I think. Though Rala watches them to make sure they don't kill each other... on top of helping me whenever I need it... ugh. Oh, and Yuki needs training, too, though I don't think getting stronger is how she evolves, like it is for the rest of my team."

"So, everyone but Rala, then," Keiko sighed.

"Well, that's not true," I reacted. "Kefka can't evolve."

This got me an odd look from Keiko. "Kefka?"

"Yeah, the Klefki I caught in the Safari Zone," I told her. "The one that was underwater. ...at least, I think it was. ...no, that doesn't make-"

"Anyway, the short version is that you've got a lot of work to do," Keiko huffed, cutting me off.

"Well, what about you?" I asked. I know you've been putting in work, but is every member of your team maxed out?"

Keiko stalled for a second, unsure if she should respond to that. "Well... there is Togen and Siri, but I'm not even sure how to get Siri to evolve. That, and they're both still really young."

"Well, let's see Togen, then," I offered, feeling the need to explain myself afterward. "I'm not trying to counter your argument or anything - you're right, I do have a lot of work to put in. I just figured that we might as well both be getting our teams stronger. No need for only one of us to benefit."

"Well... alright," Keiko sighed, letting Togen out of his ball. The Togepi called out the second he was able, glad to be free of his tiny cage.

"A Togepi, huh? Pretty sure he's in the same evolutionary situation as Yuki. Well, no reason they can't work on it together," I shrugged, letting Yuki out of her Pokeball as well.

"Okay, Togen, use Metronome!" Keiko ordered, determined to make sure my Pokemon surpass hers in strength.

"Wait, Metronome? That move's way to random to be used strateg-" I started to say, though I was cut off by Togen using Metronome to create a substitute of himself. "Huh. Not bad. Well, Togen's not the only one that can set up, right Yuki?"

Yuki answered by imbuing her body with Dark-type energy and studying Togen closely, a nasty plot forming in her mind regarding how to get around the Substitute and to Togen himself.

Once her body absorbed and distilled the Dark-type energy in her body, I could see the plan in her mind. "Go for it, Yuki," I said simply. The Pichu complied, gathering the electricity in her body and channeling it at a single point, unleashing a Nasty Plot-empowered Thunder Shock that ripped Togen's Substitute into shreds.

(The next one's comin' for your face,) Yuki jeered in Pokespeak.

Keiko couldn't understand Pokespeak, but she knew overconfidence when she saw it. "Again, Togen!" she shouted.

Togen wagged his fingers a second time, this time summoning a silky, sticky web that enveloped the training room. I couldn't help but smirk at this. "I wasn't really planning on running away, if that's what you were thinking. But if you were trying to slow me down, let me show you how it's done. Thunder Wave, Yuki."

Yuki charged her electricity again, but then flung it across most of the room, though Togen was the only one hit by it. "Crap, that'll make things harder. Use Yawn, Togen. We can't win if she keeps throwing electricity everywhere!"

"Sorry, but I'm not giving you free hits," I told her. "Sweet Kiss, Yuki."

Yuki lunged at Togen, but the Togepi planed the launch of his Normal-type cloud perfectly, and Yuki pretty much got slapped in the face with it. With Yuki getting more and more tired by the second, she only had time to run up to Togen and plant a Fairy-type energy-laden kiss on his cheek before passing out.

I was suddenly very happy I decided to give that Sleep Talk TM to Yuki while we were in Hoenn. Keiko was happy, too, but only because she thought she had the upper hand. "Okay, now you can Metronome in peace, Togen," Keiko cheered. Togen agreed, and wasted no time trying to use the move again. Togen, fueled by his Metronome, walked up to the sleeping Yuki and returned her kiss, except his lips were empowered by the Draining Kiss move, allowing him to steal some health from her and get the energy spent of Substitute back.

Keiko opened her mouth to apologize to me, but I wasn't having any of it. "Sleep Talk into Thunder Shock, Yuki. Jar that leech off of you." Almost immediately, Togen was hit with a nasty Thunder Shock, and waddled away from Yuki quickly.

"Sorry, babe, but I'm not letting something like Sleep keep Yuki from putting in work," I told her with a shrug. "Sleep Talk into a Fake Out, Yuki."

"Metronome again, Togen!" Keiko yelled. "Don't give him an inch!"

Togen started wiggling his hands, but it wasn't meant to be as Yuki grabbed them, her eyes closed shut, and slammed them against his head, forcing him to stumble back a bit.

"Again!" Keiko shouted, her trainer's blood burning just as much as mine was at this point. Unfortunately, though Togen tried to wag his fingers to create a move, he just ended up hurting himself due to confusion.

"Funny, you put Yuki to sleep to try to get the upper hand, and yet the only back against the wall is yours," I said with a smirk, knowing full well that this was just training and I was being cocky for no reason whatsoever.

Keiko seemed to be buying it, though. "Okay, I'm really impressed and a little jealous, I'll admit, but that doesn't mean that you're magically not on notice anymore," she warned.

"I know, babe," I said with a smirk. "You're not the only one that wants my team to get stronger."

This elicited a happy smile from Keiko, but she quickly shook it away. "I love you for that, but I can't let you sweet talk me into dropping my guard. Keep it up, Togen!"

Togen wagged his fingers once more, and the ground actually shook - the result of a Magnitude 5. I grit my teeth when I realized what happened, but once it was over, Yuki got up... after a little struggling to do so. Well, she was awake, at least.

"You do know that Metronome isn't the only non-status move Togepi knows, right?" GRAY chimed in as Yuki finally got to her feet. "Or are you honestly throwing caution to the wind and gambling your way to a defeat?"

To my (moderate) surprise, this elicited a growl from Keiko. "Nobody asked you, GRAY!" she yelled, though she instantly regretted doing so. "Oh, sorry! I thought you were saying something mean about.. er, nevermind."

"That's understandable," the AI said surprisingly calmly. "The ease of insulting you is your most redeeming quality, after all."

"GRAY, I recently procured an instruction manual that explains in excrutiating detail how to downgrade a computer's OS to Windows 92," I said curtly. "Take that how you will."

"You wouldn't dare," the AI snapped back.

"Keep insulting my girlfriend, and you'll find that the amount of things that I dare is quite staggering," I retorted with a serious tone of voice. We didn't hear from GRAY after that, so I took it as the AI taking a hint. "Anyway, where were we?"

As soon as I asked that, Togen went to wagging his fingers, though this time, no special effect was created. Togen simply ran up to Yuki and started throwing his hands, which where clinched together, at her, chipping away at her strength. Unfortunately, the close proximity of Togen to Yuki and the continuous strikes sent her electricity flowing wildly, and a Thunder Shock struck him, knocking him back.

As I watched Yuki and Togen both struggle to get up, I sighed. "Okay, that's enough. Let's recall our Pokemon before they both faint," I told Keiko before recalling Yuki, who was recalled the same time that Togen was recalled.

"I guess strength isn't the only factor in battles," Keiko said with a sigh. "How you and Yuki handled that fight was really impressive. I do still want you to work at it, though."

"You and me both," I sighed, giving Keiko a hug. "It's pretty clear from that fight that Yuki needs work, and she's not the only one. Although, our strategy could be improved upon as well. If I'm gonna catch up to you, let alone the rest of the team, I have a lot of work to do."

"I'm holding you to it," Keiko said before kissing me on the cheek as we left the Super Training Room for the time being.

"Why are you focusing on her?" Keiko asked as she and I returned to the Super Training Room the next day.

"Because she's close to evolving," I told Keiko. "She just needs one more push and she'll be good to go. The rest of them need more than that to reach their potential, so might as well get Yuki out of the way. Besides, check out what she'll evolve into."

I showed Keiko some Pokedex info about Alolan Raichu. I figured she'd think it's cute, but she just scoffed. "Another Psychic-type? I thought you said specializing just leaves you open to attack from super-effective moves."

"It does," I said flatly. I'm not about to roll up to the Indigo Plateau with a bunch of Psychic-types. That hasn't changed."

"So it's for channeling, then?" Keiko asked, not missing a beat. "I thought you were-"

"Gonna hold off on that so we could spend time together," I interrupted her, finishing her sentince. "And I am. That hasn't changed, either. That, and it's not like I'm about to drop a 25 Snag Coin Thunderstone on her the second she grows a tail. She's just the closest of my team to evolving, so I figure get it out of the way."

Keiko hugged me, feeling like a weight was lifted from her. "Okay. I just don't want you focusing too much on one Pokemon like you did with Rala in Mossdeep. That's what got you into this mess."

We stood there in silence for a moment before Keiko decided that it was enough. "Alright, but she's not fighting Togen this time. If she wants to reach that point of evolution, she'll need to be challenged more that what he can provide."

"Audino!" Audrey cheered as she was let out of her ball. I reluctantly let Yuki out of her ball, feeling that the power gap was a bit severe. Still, I wasn't about to argue it with her. She was kind of past that point.

"Misty Terrain, Audrey," Keiko ordered, surprising Audrey with how serious she sounded. "We're not playing any of that Thunder Wave crap this time around."

Despite her attempt to sound intimidating, I only smirked, bowing goofily at her. "As you wish, milady," I said mockingly before looking over to Yuki. "You know what to do."

Yuki nodded and studied Audrey closely, dark energy swarming to her as a Nasty Plot formed in her mind. This only annoyed Keiko, though. "Learn this. Double Slap, Audrey."

I started to give Yuki another command, but Audrey was too quick, throwing open hands every which way. The direct contact triggered Yuki's Ability, but thanks to Misty Terrain, Audrey wasn't affected by Static. "Get out of there!" I yelled.

Fortunately, Yuki outsped Audrey a little. It was enough for her to get out of Audrey's attack, but she was too irritated to listen to me, and instead fired off a nasty Thunder Shock at Audrey, pushing the Normal-type back.

Yuki and I stared at Audrey and Keiko for a little bit. I wasn't expecting the clutch Thunder Shock, but Audrey was pushing her up against a metaphorical wall with that constant attack. But that one offensive front was enough for me to reassert what I knew about Audrey - that despite having a movepool consisting of mostly status moves, she was a physical fighter. "Lay on the Charm, Yuki," I told her.

Yuki did as told, three Fairy-type energy hearts appearing over her head as Yuki showed Audrey her most charming smile. Audrey wasn't impressed, but she couldn't help but feel like she should take it at least a little bit easy on the tiny mouse.

"That is just like you, trying to charm your way out of a jam," Keiko huffed, leaving me to wonder where in the Distortion World that came from. "Do it again, Audrey!"

Audrey repeated her action with similar results. She got a few good hits in, but eventually, Yuki slipped out of her slaps and gave her a Thunder Shock to the chest for her trouble. "That's not gonna work, Keiko," I told her. "You can't use the same tactic over and over and expect different results." I refrained from mentioning that that's how insanity works as I didn't want her thinking that I was insulting her, but it was true. Regardless, she just stood there and frowned at me, though I could tell she was trying to come up with a different strategy.

After a minute of staring at each other, Keiko finally smiled, though there was some malice in it. "Alright. Mental game it is, then. Audrey, Disarming Voice."

Crap, I thought. Audrey began singing almost immediately, flooding the room in even more Fairy-type energy. "Don't let her emotional warfare ruin your plans, Yuki," I said calmly despite the worry I was feeling. Yuki complied, imbuing her body with Dark-type energy a second time as a malicous smirk crossed her tiny face.

This perplexed Keiko a little. "How are you gonna push through a Fairy-type attack with a Dark-type move?" Keiko asked as Audrey continued her song. Yuki had had enough of Disarming Voice, though, and hit Audrey with another Thunder Shock, this one a bit more powerful than the last, and it succeeded in knocking Audrey back, cutting her song short.

"Was that...?" Keiko asked, surprised with Yuki's Special strength.

"Nasty Plot makes moves like Thunder Shock especially strong," I smirked. "Yuki might only have the one damaging move, but with enough planning and plotting, she can use it well."
