You hear the door slam And realize there's nowhere left to run You feel the cold hand And wonder if you'll ever see the sun You close your eyes
Cian arrived unsure what they would be doing in this class. Charms? Where they making friendship bracelets or something? Cian doubted this as it wasnt a summer camp so he just take it in stride. Which he had done so far. He loved that the dorms were under water and he could see merpeople swim by the window of he waited long enough. He have to get use to the snoring but that wasn't a problem. Cian was set with an awnser when it was his time. "I'm Cian Quinlan and im in Slytherin! Only think I know for Charms are those dangly things on bracelets but I don't think we're talking about those." Cian said. He doubted he get the points but perhaps a chuckle from someone,Cian would take mild awkwardness too.
And hope that this is just imagination Girl but all the while You hear a creature creeping up behind You're out of time

ISOLDE BLODWEN_____.___ First Year, Hufflepuff, Pureblood ________ ══════════════════════════_____
Isolde sucked on the end of a sugar quill as she marched through the doors of Charms class and meandered into a seat. She was wide awake and wired from a breakfast of sugar and sweets. And excited. She was eager to start playing with her wand, carrying it the past two days had been a tease. Right now, it was nothing more than a wooden paper weight. But some day soon, it would be much more than that. She spun the black walnut wood back and forth in her fingers while the professor began introductions. Iso gave a sideways glance to the joking Slytherin, shrugged, and raised her voice when it was her turn. ”My name is Isolde Blodwen, but everyone calls me Iso. And I am a Hufflepuff.”

Elsie was thrilled to be teaching the first years their first official charm today; she was glad she didn't teach a subject that was all lecture, like History of Magic. She wanted to be able to actually see them learning. Once they'd taken their seats and she was done taking attendance, she rose from her desk. "Good morning everyone! Today you will be learning about, and attempting, your very first charm." She nodded to the board behind her, where Wingardium Leviosa was written in neat cursive.
"Before we begin the lesson, let's briefly go over the homework assignment- you should have read up on the four essentials of casting a charm successfully." Textbook in hand, she walked up and down between the desks as she went over the reading. "First, you must focus on your objective when casting any spell. If you are distracted or not paying proper attention to your target, the spell will either fail entirely, backfire onto you, or give you less than stellar results. This is especially important in stressful situations, such as when you are defending yourself or trying to help someone. Second, your wand movements must be precise. Charms is a delicate branch of magic. Many charms will not function properly if the wand was flicked or swirled wildly. Thirdly, you must stress syllables properly. Not pronouncing a charm correctly or slurring or stammering the words is one of the most common reasons for a charm to fail. Finally, visualization, not to be confused with concentration. Technically, you can cast a charm without visualizing it, but it certainly helps to have an idea of what you want to achieve. See it to believe it, to speak," she laughed, and then snapped the book shut, approaching the board once more.
"Right then, if you are all prepared, let's go over the levitation charm, which is what we will be learning today." Chalk in hand, she started to write the charm's definition and lecture simultaneously. "Please take notes, everyone, it will help with your out of class practicing. Simply put, the levitation charm can be used to levitate any object, including, with enough practice and skill, things that a human being would never have the strength to lift on their own, such as heavy furniture, downed trees, vehicles, and so on. The object levitated can be lifted as high as the caster is able to see. The only thing the charm cannot lift is humans- it only effects the clothing worn."
The blonde turned to face the students with a small smile as she recounted the charm's history. "It was created in the sixteenth century by a wizard named Jarleth Hobart, whose goal was to attempt human flight. He failed, and broke sixteen bones for his trouble- as well as a penalty for 'Extraordinary Stupidity' from the Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot. However, the charm survived his embarrassment, and is one of the most common, well-known charms in the wizarding world."
Turning back to the board, Elsie sketched the wand movement of the spell:
"The pronunciation is as follows; Wing-GAR-dee-um levi-O-sa. The incantation essentially means, 'lift up high'. Now, if everyone feels ready, please come up and take a feather from this box on my desk." She indicated the box, containing various feathers of all shapes, sizes, and colors, sitting on the desk beside her.

Katya Patrovna Hufflepuff │ First Year │ Eleven Years Old │ Single
Katya really wanted to do well today in Charms class, since this was the first time she'd be casting magic in a class. Of course, she'd completed her homework assignment, and she poured through her second-hand Charms book as she wanted to be prepared for today. Still and all, she was a bit nervous, even though her sister told her she'd do fine.
Being one of the first students to show up, she made sure to get a seat where there was enough light to comfortably write by. As the professor gave the lecture, the little blonde Hufflepuff was taking down careful notes with a steady hand, making sure to copy the diagram on the chalkboard. She winced when it was related how the spell's inventor broke sixteen bones attempting to fly, and felt rather sorry about how he was consigned to history as being a fool.
Thankfully, all she was being asked to do was lift a feather, which she collected from a box on the teacher's desk. Katya carefully practiced the pronunciation a few times, as well as the wand movement, which reminded her of a fish-hook shape, before feeling brave enough to have a go at it for real. "Wingardium Leviosa!" she spoke aloud, as she gestured with her wand. The little Hufflepuff's eyes lit up and she smiled as she saw her feather beginto rise slowly but surely from the surface of her desk.

Mary was thrilled that now the second week of classes had begun that they would finally be producing magic using their wands. Of course they already flew but that was different. It was like riding a horse in a way. Charms and Defense Against Dark Arts was all using her own skills and talents channeled through a wand. Mary took a seat and dutifully took notes as the Professor began her lecture. Mary felt bad for Mr. Hobart who attempted flight with the charm and end up forever being known as "extraordinarily stupid" what a horrible thing to be forever known as. Besides Mr. Hobart did create a very useful charm even if it wasn't what his original plan was. Either way, they soon moved on to actually performing the charm Wingardium Leviosa.
Mary excitedly came up to the front of the room and selected a large white feather from the box and brought it back to her desk. After a few tries of writing the wand movement in the air with her finger, Mary felt ready to try her hand at the charm. Picking up her Sycamore wand, Mary carefully mapped out the movement for the wand and proclaimed, "Wing-GAR-dee-um levi-0-sa." With the flick of her wand the feather merrily began to float up from the table. In excitement Mary squeaked with a smile, "I did it! It's floating!"
For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... My dear, I wager your father will be proud of you regardless You need to forge your own path And I think you'll be doing just that in Hufflepuff!

Quinn was more than ready to actually start the curriculum for all his classes. He was really quite over introductions already. Sure there were interesting characters in his year but he really was here to learn. Today they would be learning wingardium leviosa the levitation charm. Quinn took notes and listened as Professor Shoichet spoke about the spells inventor Jarleth Hobart. He was a scientist and not a fool if you asked Quinn and Quinn felt that Jarleth Hobart would have been hailed as a scientist-though a bit reckless of one- if he had been born in a different century. Anyways, they were wizards, bones healed pretty quick with magic, unless they didn't have the spell for that yet. Quinn wrote a note to look that up sometime. He was pretty sure his mother might know but he wasn't about to ask her for anything. And international mail was expensive.
Quinn drew the wand movement on his paper and wrote out the name of the spell and the pronunciation before getting up to get a feather of his own. He noticed his twin had already rushed into it and was doing quite well on her own. Quinn raised his wand, drew the fish hook like squiggle in the air and declared "Wingardium Leviosa." The feather raised effortlessly into the air and while Quinn did not express the excitement his sister did, he could not help but smile at his success.
For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... Ah, such concern for your dear sister A quiet, thoughtful mind, hm? Yes, I know just where to put you, Ravenclaw!

Elsie sat at her desk, marking down each student for attendance as they entered the classroom, and waited until most of the seats were filled before rising from her seat, textbook in one hand, wand in the other. "Accio homework," she said cheerfully, collecting the papers, and turned to the correct page in the book as she wrote REPARO - THE MENDING CHARM on the board in bright red chalk. "Good morning everyone! Today we'll be learning about and attempting the mending charm, which should prove extremely useful to you over the course of your years at school." The blonde witch remembered being a gawky teen herself, and the sheer number of things she'd broken by either forgetting she'd left them somewhere, tripping over them... it went on.
"The mending charm was invented by a resourceful witch named Orabella Nuttley, who worked for the Ministry of Magic as a member of the Improper Use of Magic Office in the 1750s. When the Colosseum- yes, the one in Rome- was accidentally destroyed by magic, she created this charm to repair it. When cast effectively this spell can do amazing things- restore houses after natural disasters like earthquakes or floods, repair roads and bridges, and so forth. Obviously today we'll be practicing on a much smaller scale," Elsie added reassuringly.
"Reparo will return any broken object to its former state, and works on most everything.... with the exception of cursed or enchanted objects. However, and this is very important, so I want you all taking notes- this charm can only be used on inanimate objects. You cannot cast it on a person or animal. It won't work properly and you could scar someone terribly. Now, the pronunciation is reh-PAH-roh, and the incantation means 'to repair'." The professor turned back to the board, and sketched the wand movement of the charm:
"I have a number of broken items up here in this box on my desk- teacups, spoons and forks, plates, eyeglasses, latches... Come up and pick out something, and then you can get to work practicing."

Today they would be doing what Katya heard her sister refer to as 'practical magic', as in spells one could use in everyday situations, though Katya already knew she wouldn't be allowed to use magic off school grounds. Still, it was real handy to know how to fix stuff. When she heard how it could be used to work on large projects, fixing roads and bridges, she sadly wondered why nobody used it to fix their house after the fire, so maybe she and Faina wouldn't have had to live somewhere else all this time.
After taking her notes, when the time came she went up to the professor's desk and fished a pair of glasses with a cracked lens and a bent frame out of it to work on. After practicing a couple times, Katya waved her wand, and spoke aloud, "Reparo!", and then watched as the frame unbent a little before stopping.. It took a second try for her to fully fix the glasses.

Elsie was at her desk organizing the crate full of candles she'd brought along to this lesson. Yes, it was a bit obvious what charm they'd be learning, but there was no easier way to learn it then to learn how to light a simple candle. Besides, incendio was both very useful and quite dangerous when misused, and she didn't want anyone sending the classroom up in flames. "Today we'll be learning the fire-starting charm," she said cheerfully, as the first years filed in. "Incendio."
"Incendio also happens to be a form of conjuration, as it creates flames, rather than simply warming something up. Incendio comes from the Latin term incendium, meaning fire. As it causes fire, incendio can be quite dangerous if misused, and so I never want any of you to direct this charm at anything but an inanimate object, or Devil's Snare, if you happen to be in that situation," Elsie added dryly.
"The pronunciation is in-SEN-dee-oh, and the incantation means 'to set fire'." The professor turned back to the board, and sketched the wand movement of the charm:
"Now, everyone should come up and take a candle so they can practice for themselves."

It was Tuesday morning, which marked Elsie's second day of classes. Luckily, her only class today was the first years, and if she'd handled the second and fifth year yesterdays, she was sure she'd be fine. She rearranged her desk for the millionth time, made sure the door hadn't swung shut on her, and began to write on the board as students began to file inside; the 8 o'clock bell was sure to begin to toll within a minute or two, marking the beginning of the first period of classes. When she was done writing she turned to face the class, wiping a bit of errant chalk dust off of her jeans. In one corner of the board the class rules were neatly outlined; in another the homework assignment, in yet another the supply list, and in the final corner, a doodle that looked like it had been scrawled by a student and smudged over. In the center WHAT IS A CHARM? was written in bright yellow chalk, and underlined. Twice. "Good morning everyone," Elsie said brightly, hoping she didn't sound condescending or as if she expected them all to chorus 'good morning' back. "I hope you enjoyed your first day of classes yesterday. This is Charms, and I will be your Charms instructor for the rest of your time here. My name is Professor Shoichet. I have a list with all of your names, but I'd like to put names to faces, so if you could all go around the room and tell me who you are and your house, that would be excellent. No need to stand, just be loud and clear. And ten points to the house of anyone who can tell me what a charm is while they're at it, alright? The tall blonde woman sat rather casually on the desk, long legs easily touching the floor, as she went down the list with her wand, looking up at the sound of each student's voice.

Rina had gotten up extra early this morning, after an unfortunate incident yesterday where she both overslept and got lost on her way to her first class. Well, that wasn't happening a second time. At 7:58, Rina walked into the Charms classroom for the first time. Her yellow striped Hufflepuff tie was done up slightly crooked, and there were faint circles under her eyes. She really wasn't a morning person, but she knew she would be fine by lunchtime.
Taking her seat, she pulled her tan bookbag into her lap and pulled on the kitty keychain that held the zipper so she could take out her coursebook and some note paper. She hadn't really read up on anything yet, and so she stared at the big question on the board and puzzled what a good answer might be. Soon enough, though, it was her turn to speak.
"Um, my name is Karina Monet, and I'm in Hufflepuff," she started, feeling her voice shake a bit. Public speaking was not her best thing. So far, no one had attempted to answer the Charms question, so... 'Why not?' she thought. "Um... Is a charm kind of like a spell that... changes the properties of something without changing what it actually is..? So that way it's different from Transfiguration, that changes the actual shape of something.. instead it changes other things about it..?"

Varus, with little self-esteem he had, was proud to say that he had never been late. And he never will be, which is a vow to himself, more than anything. He takes pride in his planning, meticulously detailed as it is. He had scanned through the textbook, prepared his school stuff, and practiced the most important thing before he went to bed. Roll call. True, the doom of introducing yourself, albeit only for a brief moment, made his stomach hurt and his head light. The nerves were always enough to ruin his agenda. Something terrible was always bound to happen because of the nerves. Alas, as long as he stays true to his agenda, and remains invisible or at least bordering the line of invisibility, the probability of something going wrong should at least be low enough to actively avoid.
He went into the classroom with his head hung low. The corner seats were where he wanted to go. So there he went. When he raised his head, the yellow words on the center of the board made him blink. The teacher began to speak, but he was already practicing how to say his name. Varus listened to the Hufflepuff girl—he recognized by the color of her robes, but her name, and he was sure she introduced herself, had already slipped his mind because of his nervousness—answer the question. Varus Heathcliff, Ravenclaw. Varus Heathcliff, Ravenclaw.
When it was his turn, he took a deep breath. "Varus Heathcliff, R-Ravenclaw." His head spun immediately, but cleared after realizing that he was probably gonna be forgotten. His name, anyway. "A-and adding to what she said, w-which was a fantastic answer, by the way," Varus rambled while turning red, not really understanding what he was saying, "a charm can also add properties to the o-object o-or creature." He was about to add more, but he didn't want to look greedy for house points so he held his tongue and hoped for the best.

Rhona Finnea Dubhach Halfblood | First Year | Gryffindor Location: Charms Class | Company: Classmates | Mood: Calm
Rhona didn't particularity like getting up this early in the morning, making sure her Gryffindor robes and tie looked presentable enough. Though she was getting the distinct impression that most members of her house didn't worry too much about appearances, though mostly the boys. Really, getting to class on time should be the most important thing anyway.
She took a seat in the middle, watching as the Professor began to write on the board. She was beginning to recognize her fellow first year students from the day before, which helped her feel a bit more comfortable.
The other two students went first, a Hufflepuff and a Ravenclaw, both clearly nervous. She felt a bit of sympathy for both of them as they reminded her of her younger brother Ewan. At least they weren't being made to stand.
As it became her turn, Rhona cleared her voice and began to speak. "I'm Rhona Dubhach, a Gryffindor." And to add to what had been already said... "Charms change what something can do, rather than what they are, I believe."
OoC:
Compassionate She feels a lot of compassion for other people, and especially animals when they are suffering. This leads to her wanting to do something about it or a very strong opinion towards the situation. Independent Already used to responsibility and going off with her brother quite often already in early life, Rhona has a strong sense of self-independence. Dependable She likes being seen as a responsible person who can be trusted, and that includes whatever someone may ask her to do. Stubborn When she thinks she's right and gets into an argument with someone, she won't back down very easily. If someone tells her no, she very often resists. Commonly, this comes from her not liking being treated like and kid and she feels like people don't respect her opinions. Stingy She really doesn't do sharing, no matter what it is. Having a twin and sharing so many things in their lives made her very protective of what little she could completely call her own. Energetic She seems to have an almost bottomless source of energy to draw from, mostly when working on something she's interested in. But when she crashes, she crashes hard.

Karina sat near the front of the room, jotting down a few notes from Professor Shoichet's lecture as she went along. She had done a little reading on charms since the last class, so the things she was hearing about pronunciation and wand movement were familiar to her already. Of course, she hadn't really learned many spells to practice yet, so this was going to be pretty new.
When Professor Shoichet was finished speaking, Rina slid out from behind her desk and went to the front to collect a fluffy white feather. 'Perfect,' she thought, walking it back over to her table and setting it down on the polished wooden surface. 'A feather should be a lot easier to levitate than something heavy, like a textbook.. I've got this.' Sitting back down, Rina drew her wand and practiced moving it the way the professor did, with a nice swish and a flick. It was a little big and wavy, she thought, so she spent a minute focusing on keeping her wand movements tidy.
Then, when she felt like she was ready, Rina cleared her throat and pointed her wand and the feather. "Wingardium Leviosa!" she pronounced as she waved her wand, the feather shuddering and floating upwards a little - no more than an inch or two, but Rina was elated. "It worked!" she squeaked, clutching her wand tighter and watching the feather fall back down. "Okay! Guess I'll try again..."
