"Hm, doubt that's the same Sewaddle," Aden remarked to himself, seeing another Sewaddle. This one was finding its way down a tree unlike the Weedle from just moments before, but just like before, he saw no reason to bother them. Unless they got upset about losing food and wanted to strike first about it. But hopefully that didn't happen again, right?

Another cursory glance at the tree would also reveal a Hoothoot barely peeking out from atop it, but as Aden started towards another part of the forest soon after, all the Hoothoot would see was the hybrid's retreating form.

Eventually, Aden would get a bit tired of simply walking around, seeing a Pikipek hopping along the ground. They didn't see him yet, so he quietly let Wooloo back out. Kneeling down to whisper a command to Headbutt them before they could catch on anyone else's presence. Though this would kind of fail, noticing Wooloo rolling at them after she got going, it wouldn't be in time to do much about it aside from taking the hit and flying back from it.
A startled chirp coming in response, Pikipek went to retaliate with as hard of a Peck as they could. "...you know, probably should try to find something more challenging..." Aden said to himself, seeing them fail to get through the fleece and barely register to Wooloo beyond wishing for them to get off her. "Another Headbutt?" He had a feeling a second attack would be all it really took, and it wasn't surprising when Wooloo managed to roll with the poor Pikipek on her still and the bird couldn't really do much more than try to hop away once dislodged.
"Er, yeah, maybe shouldn't have blindsided them like that..." He said to himself before slowly stepping away and going elsewhere within the forest.

Not long after the whole Pikipek incident, Aden would stop in his tracks upon hearing a slam that threatened to shake the ground ever so slightly. Looking around revealed a Farfetch'd that he didn't totally recognize, having darker feathers and a bulkier build compared to the ones he was used to. Unlike those same ones, they also had a much larger leek in hand, practically a club by comparison. "Er.... nope."
Immediately, he decided he wanted no part of whatever that Farfetch'd had and quickly went elsewhere in the forest.

Despite the attempt to book it, Aden would hear another slam and a loud cry. "Move a little faster, got it." Quickening his pace, he hoped he might escape the Farfetch'd this time, worried he might've gotten their attention and he'd be getting that challenge he asked for.

While he hadn't totally managed to get away, Aden could swear he also heard a Ferroseed around the same area and let out a sigh of relief. "Probably wasn't me, then..." He said to himself, stopping for a moment. "Best leaving both of them alone. Hopefully." Looking around to make sure neither were going after him, he continued onward, mostly confident he was safe. Mostly.

Interestingly, as Aden went onward, another Hatenna would witness him pass by with an awful lot of apprehension in his mind. They also would witness him getting too far away too quickly to "take care" of the situation as it were, as the hybrid kept exploring the forest for way too long.

Before Hop-Frog could leave the water after dispatching a very aggressive Basculin another angry Pokemon decided to make itself known but this time it was the fault of Hop-Frog. The Froakie would bump into something in the water and feel something stab into its side, the frog leaping out of the water in spite of being in the middle of the lake, the Pokemon letting out a pained cry. Sub could do little more than look on in confusion as his Pokemon splashed back down and disappeared into the lake. The trainer would soon realize what happened as he saw spikes poke out of the water and being to move towards where Hop-Frog disappeared, the Johto native very familiar with this one. "Qwilfish..." Sub groaned to himself, watching Hop-Frog pop his head up out of the water. "Hop-Frog! Move!" He shouted.
It was too late for Hop-Frog, the Qwilfish had closed in and rammed into the Froakie with a Tackle attack, its spikes stabbing into the opposing Pokemon. With another pained cry Hop-Frog would flail around in the water a bit before beginning to swim away, trying to get far away from this walking pin cushion. Sub could see what the Qwilfish was trying to do, what came naturally to it, and that was trying to poison Hop-Frog. It was probably a young Qwilfish as it had yet to use Poison Sting or other more direct methods of poisoning and thus was sticking to trying to trigger its Poison Point ability. This would work in their favor, all he had to do was keep Hop-Frog away from it and beat it back from a distance.
"Hop-Frog! Stay away from it! Use Quick Attack and come back to the shore!" Sub commanded his Pokemon, cupping his hands on the sides of his mouth to try and let his voice carry further. Fortunately Hop-Frog would hear its trainer and with a burst of Normal energy began to swim much faster, rapidly approaching the shore where his trainer stood. The Qwilfish, while falling behind, was still in pursuit, angrily flipping its tail from side to side as the pudgy creature traveled through the water. As the Froakie began to get further and further away the fish's anger just increased more, as it wanted nothing more than to poke it with one of its spikes. That's when something happened that Sub thought couldn't happen, a single Poison Sting needle launched from one of its spike and sailed through the air, arching downward and barely missing Hop-Frog as it feebly splashed into the water.
"Crap, okay so it can do that but not very well." Sub said to himself, that certainly made 'operation don't let Hop-Frog get poisoned' more difficult. Thankfully the frog would arrive on the shore just in time, the Qwilfish a few seconds behind it as it kept swimming towards them aggressively. "Hop-Frog,show me a Swift!" Sub ordered. With a croak the frog would begin to conjure up small star-shaped discs of Normal energy and would flick them at the incoming Qwilfish one after the other. The young Balloon Pokemon would 'dodge' them, one after the other, and continue to close in onto the shore, its needles glowing purple as its anger mustered up the needed energy to use Poison Sting. After Hop-Frog flung the last star, which missed, Sub began to look puzzled, confused as to how a Swift could miss, however Hop-Frog was unbothered and just smiled.
"Froak." His Pokemon declared, turning around to give his trainer a thumb's up. In that moment all those 'missed' stars would rise up from underneath the water and slam into the Qwilfish one after the other, the force of each star slamming into it causing it to rise up more and more until it was completely out of the water and after the last star hit the fish would fall back down and splash back into the lake. This sudden airborne moment would scare the young Qwilfish, causing it to flee back into the lake as it dived down and disappeared to no longer bother them.
"Good riddance, you cocky little pin cushion." Sub said as he watched the Balloon Pokemon flee. He would then look down at Hop-Frog and return his thumb's up, proud of his young Pokemon. "Time to find more trouble."

The Pokemon and trainer pair would find another spot to relax underneath a nice shady tree along the shore, the two resting for roughly fifteen minutes, Hop-Frog just starting to doze off while his trainer stared out at the lake, fully expecting something else to attack them. While watching the lake the mostly still water would begin to ripple, Sub squinting his eyes as he tried to get a good look at what was going on, the motion in the water becoming more and more vigorous. Suddenly a Magikarp would surface, the dopey Pokemon swimming with all its might in a rather erratic manner, was it injured? Magikarp were actually good swimmers so it was strange to see it struggle like this. The answer to that question was yes as the trainer spotted a Goldeen surface next, the Goldfish Pokemon in hot pursuit of the Fish Pokemon. Ordinarily Sub would just sit back and let nature do its thing but he was here to trainer Hop-Frog and part of him felt bad for the pathetic Magikarp, thinking about his own unnamed fish. "I really need to pay attention to it..." Sub mumbled to himself before standing up and nudging Hop-Frog with his foot.
"Come on bud, we're going to teach a horned fish some manners." He said, pointing out at the lake towards the Goldeen. Hop-Frog would stand up and rub his eyes, then get a good look at what was going on and nodded in agreement with his trainer. "Ready? Fire off a Swift to get its attention." The man commanded his Pokemon. With a croak Hop-Frog would charge up a single star in his hand and fling it towards the lake, following it up with another until it tossed three Swift stars at the Goldeen. The first one would hit the Goldeen causing it to suddenly stop its pursuit followed by the other two slamming into it at the same time. By the time the Goldeen regained its composure the Magikarp had escaped, the Goldeen none too pleased as it had lost its prey. "That's what you get, you big bully!" Sub shouted out at the Goldeen. The fish would look to the shore and spot Sub and Hop-Frog, realizing that they were responsible for losing its lunch.
"Deen deen!" Shouted the Goldeen before letting out a ear piercing shriek of a cry as it executed a Supersonic from the lake, the sound easily carrying to the shore where Sub and his Froakie would cover their ears in pain as the Supersonic rattled their brains. "Ack! I forgot they can do that!" Sub cried out. Once it was over he would look down at his Froakie who was now swaying a bit, realizing the Supersonic was successful and Hop-Frog was now confused. "Tch, just great." Looking back out at the lake he spotted the Goldeen, furiously swimming towards the shore.
"So you want a fight, huh? Hop-Frog! Shake it off and throw another Swift at it!" The trainer ordered. With a croak Hop-Frog would seem to obey the command, charging up a Swift energy star, pulling back, and then...just trip over nothing and rolling down towards the shore. What in the world was that about? Swift didn't even require him to take a step!
By the time Hop-Frog arrived at the lake's shore the Goldeen had arrived as well and without losing a beat rammed its horn into Hop-Frog with a Horn Attack, the confused frog leaping off the ground with a cry of pain, flailing around in midair and splashing into the lake. Sub would groan in annoyance at this turn of events as his frog was now in the fish's turf, thus they lost the field advantage his semi-aquatic Pokemon had. Now they definitely had to put this thing down which was now swimming horn first towards the Froakie with another Horn Attack. "Hop-Frog, if you can smack it away with Pound!" Sub ordered.
Fortunately for Hop-Frog the ringing in his eyes subsidded just long enough for him to hear the command and the frog would find it in himself to fight through his mental fog to spot the incoming Goldeen. Making a fist and charging up some Normal energy in it Hop-Frog would wait for the fish to get close enough and once it was in range the Froakie would slug the Goldeen with a Pound right across its scaly face, sending the fish flailing and splashing backwards along the water's surface.
It would be no time to celebrate however as it looked like this Goldeen had a lot more fight in it than the one from earlier, the fish immediately spitting out a Water Pulse at Hop-Frog the first chance it got, the orb of water imploded as it made contact with the Froakie's face, a horrible screeching sound resulting from its implosion. While it didn't do much damage due to typing the terrible sound aggravated the frog's confusion causing it him to sway and flail around in place as it appeared he briefly forgot how to swim. Sub just sighed. "Hop-Frog! Come on! It's coming right back at you!" Sub cried out as the fish began to race for the Froakie again.
Stabbing into Hop-Frog with another Horn Attack the Goldeen seemed confident as Hop-Frog let out a pained cry but did little to fight back. Seeing room for another blow the fish would pull its head back and attempt to thrust forward with a Peck attack this time, however its fortune was about to change. "Hop-Frog!" Sub shouted, his voice piercing through the confusion afflicting the Froakie as his eyes went wide and zoomed in on the Goldeen attack it.
"Froakie!" Hop-Frog cried out as he lashed out at the fish with a Lick attack, its long frog tongue wrapping around the Goldeen and binding it in place. The fish would begin to panic as it flapped its flippers but got nowhere. "Nice! Now for some payback! Try a Fling!" Sub ordered. It was a move he had practiced with Hop-Frog before, training for his eventual Dark typing, but it wasn't one he was particularly good at. He figured this was as good as an opportunity as any to try it out.
Summoning forth feelings of vengeance Hop-Frog's tongue would begin to give off a dark red, almost black, glow, the frog beginning to swing the capture Goldeen around in circles to pick up some momentum before he let go. Deciding it had gained enough force behind it Hop-Frog would release the Goldeen and send it flying towards the shore where the tree was they were sitting under earlier. Fortunately Sub noted the trajectory early enough and stepped to the side, watching the Goldeen unceremoniously slamming into the tree, immediately knocked out as it rolled along the ground a bit, stopping at Sub's feet. Another victory for Hop-Frog.
"Game. Set. And match." Sub grinned, looking out at the lake and giving his Pokemon a thumb's up, the Froakie returning the gesture with pride.

...Diglett. She'd heard of them, though they had little tufts of hair. Was there a difference between the ones in Alola and this one?
"Bubble Beam!" she shouted, her voice echoing off the walls. The Corphish seemed to take that to heart, jetting out a stream of bubbles with more ferocity than it had in the past.
Diglett was still standing, though, and it used Dig, popping below the ground. Just as Corphish looked around in confusion, it popped up right under, flipping the Pokémon soft shell-up.
"Nononono!" Monique moved in to flip the Pokémon over, narrowly avoiding having her own Pokémon grip her painfully with her pincers.
After getting back on its feet, it delivered one more Bubble Beam to finish the job. Diglett, weakened, burrowed under the ground and stayed there.

Thankfully, Rolycoly didn’t make a return appearance and Clare was finally able to breath a heavy sigh and head off into the cave system further, exploring with Visage once again. The duo wouldn’t encounter anything else for a while before spotting something that Clare found unusual. A strange, star-shaped silhouette was bouncing around in the gloom not far off from them. Holding a finger to their mouth, they signaled to Visage to keep quiet and the pair attempted to sneak up on the silhouette to get a better idea of what it was.
”Cleffa, the Star Shape Pokemon. Fairy-Type.” Clare heard the beginning of the Pokédex entry from their SNAG and quickly scrambled to silence the device before whatever was casting the silhouette they were investigating came to return the favor.
“Fa?” The tiny voice caught Clare’s attention as quickly as their SNAG was quieted and they turned their head back toward it, almost fearful of whatever it was that bad spoken. The tiny Cleffa looking up at them elicited a short scream, though not one of fear. “You’re too cute!” Clare exclaimed, rushing to pick the small Fairy-type and holding it up in the air to get a better look at it.
The Star Shape Pokemon wiggled uncomfortably in Clare’s hands for a moment before stuffing it’s hand into the tuft of fluff on it’s forehead and producing, somehow, a small package of glowing white something from within and thrusting it toward the hybrid. “For me?” Clare asked, putting Cleffa down and taking the offered Present. “What is it?” It would take only a moment longer to find out as the Present’s glow rapidly grew and it exploded violently in their hands. Coughing out a small cloud of smoke afterward, the hybrid offered a deadpan glare at Cleffa. “That was mean.” They said simply. “Visage, use Bite!”
The Dreepy nodded and lunged toward Cleffa, fangs of Dark energy clamping down on the baby Pokemon, causing it to let loose with a wail and massive tears falling from its eyes as it cried. The moment Visage faltered and let it go, however, Cleffa bounced backward, its Fake Tears stopping instantly as it let out a disarmingly cute cry that tugged just so at the Dragon’s heartstrings, though it made her feel bad but that was all, before a wave of Fairy energy crashed into her. “Ah! Visage, are you alright?” Clare asked, holding out a hand in her direction as concern sunk in, fearing for their Pokémon’s wellbeing. “Dreeeeee!” Visage called back, shaking her head and clearing away the emotions Cleffa had been playing with. “Use Disable!” Clare directed, hoping to shut down another hit like that.
Visage nodded and her eyes glowed bright blue as she traced Cleffa’s silhouette in fairy lights, placing a ghostly curse upon the Star Shape Pokemon that would restrict its moves. Cleffa ”cried” out as the curse took effect but no power came with it, only an infantile crying leaving its mouth. Puffing up angrily upon realizing it wouldn’t be able to weaponize its cuteness for a bit, Cleffa held its hands in front of itself and began to draw shadows into the space between them for a moment, forming a tightly compacted globule of ghostly darkness as big around as itself, hurling the Shadow Ball at Visage with a mighty squeak of effort.
“Double Team!” Clare called out, taking a few steps away from where they were currently standing to ensure they were staying safe from the attack coming in. Visage duplicated herself in an instant but it seemed she was unlucky as the Ghost energy slammed into one of her and the illusory clones all vanished as she squealed and fell to the ground. “Oh no!” Clare exclaimed, rushing over to the small Dragon and digging around in their bag for a moment, pulling out a pink and white spray bottle, quickly spraying the various scrapes and scratches she had collected so far. The Hyper Potion was incredibly fast acting and Visage was fully healed within seconds.
“Are you alright?” Clare asked as Visage’s vitality was restored and she began to levitate as normal. “Pyyyyy!” She assured, phasing through her trainer to face Cleffa again. Cleffa gave her an odd look before attempting to strike her with another Shadow Ball. That had been a hard blow but so far, none of the Star Shape Pokémon’s attempts to weaken Visage had worked.
“Use Quick Attack!” Clare directed. “Get behind it!” Visage dashed forward, leaving a trail of white energy in her wake at first, snaking her way around the incoming Shadow Ball and vanishing for a moment as she did. Cleffa paused for a brief instant, trying to figure out where Visage had disappeared to when the Dreepy popped into existence right in its face, letting out a wild shout as she assailed the small Fairy-Type with Astonish.
Clare dug around in their bag for a moment, looking for their Safari Balls and finding a black Ball trimmed in crimson and gold instead. “Huh… I don’t remember having this one…” they muttered to themself, standing up with the Luxury Ball in hand. Taking a moment to ensure they had an opening, they threw the Ball at Cleffa while it was startled by the Astonish, striking true and waiting to see what happened.

Clare had picked up the Luxury Ball before they'd begun to explore again, Visage in tow, and was looking at the device in their hand as they went, curious about the small creature within. It had seemed to have a lot of fight left in it when they'd caught it and it was making them wonder just how spunky the pink creature was going to end up being in the long run. For now, however, they'd notice the Yungoos that was threatening to bite their toes and almost danced away from it as they attempted to remove their feet from the range of the rodent's gnashing teeth. "Visage, don't start a fight!" They insisted when the Dreepy narrowed her eyes at the Loitering Pokemon, hurrying her along as the pair made a quick escape.

After a little rest the duo would resume their trek around the lake, this time choosing to find a wild Pokemon to get in a fight with. Resting and relaxing wasn't working so far so why not just solely focus on getting Hop-Frog some experience while they were here? Eventually Sub would spot a Ducklett floating in the lake, just minding its own business and enjoying the sun. A Ducklett should be easy pickings for Hop-Frog, or at least not too big of a challenge. Pointing out the duck for his frog the trainer spoke. "See that Ducklett? Issue a challenge to it. We're an honorable pair so we won't ambush it, not like some Pokemon around here." He said, recalling a particularly Basculin, among others.
Hop-Frog would nod at his trainer and jump into the water and starting swimming out towards the Ducklett. His splashing would alert the young duck who would look to the side at the approaching frog, suspicious of the creature but not yet flying away. Maybe it had interacted with the Froakie species before, they were in Kalos after all. Once Hop-Frog made it to the Ducklett he would engage it in conversation, trying its best to articulate to the bird that it was issuing a challenge to it. There would turn out to be no trouble in getting this challenge across to the Water type and it was also very keen to such a prospect, the duck giving off a confident 'quack' to confirm it would battle them. Hop-Frog would look back and give his trainer a thumb's up to let him know it was good to go, the two Water types swimming apart but staying in the lake as they prepared to battle.
"Let's start things, Hop-Frog, Round!" Sub commanded his Pokemon. Hop-Frog would let out a very loud series of croaks empowered by Normal energy, faintly visible sound waves traveling through the air towards Ducklett, causing the water to ripple in its path, the Ducklett letting out a cry as it flailed around a bit, the sound ringing its ears something fierce.
Ducklett would regain its composure soon enough and retaliated by going airborne and darting towards Hop-Frog, wings spread out and glowing as it prepared a Wing Attack. "Dive!" Sub ordered. Hop-Frog would do just that as he turned over and went down but the Ducklett corrected its positioning and pointed one wing down into the lake, clipping Hop-Frog as he dove, however the lake's water mitigated some of the damage.
Hop-Frog wouldn't stay under long as he needed to hear his trainer's command and poked his head back out, watching the Ducklett still in flight, doing a u-turn and coming back around. "Smokescreen then dive! Grab a rock or something down there!" The trainer instructed his Pokemon, he had an idea to finish this up quickly.
As the Ducklett came back in for another Wing Attack its Froakie opponent would let loose a thick cloud of black smoke from its mouth, the bird immediately flying right into it. Unfortunately for the duck this smoke made it almost impossible to see and thus missed the Froakie completely, reappearing on the other end of the smoke cloud, a confused look on its face as it flapped in place and stared down at the cloud.
Sub would wait a second or two, hoping his Froakie found something and resurfaced already, not even he could see where Hop-Frog was. Figuring he had to surface by now he called out. "Now use Smack Down!" The trainer cried out to his Pokemon. Any fears of the frog still being underwater were banished as a small rock came flying out of the Smokescreen cloud with pretty good force and beamed the Ducklett across the head, the airborne duck falling out of the sky and splashing down into the lake, instantly knocked out cold.
"Uh...a little too much force there, Hop-Frog." Sub said as the cloud of smoke between them began to fade and Sub just stared at the floating unconscious duck. Hop-Frog croaked nervously in response. "Go get it and bring it to shore, we'll keep an eye on it while it regains consciousness." He instructed his Pokemon who immediately began to swim towards the duck. The Ducklett was kind enough to them so he couldn't just leave it like that.
