Challenge #6: Model Makeover
Oh, This Old Thing?
User Image

Description: Designers, we have some terrible news! Your models are
all having a bad hair day, and they have a photoshoot in five minutes! What's
a girl to do? Hide the bad hair beneath a wig of course! This challenge you
are allowed to switch out your model's hair for any hair of your choosing.
Only the hair. But remember, this shouldn't look like a dollar wig fresh out the
bag. Every model should be able to convince us that "tHiS iS mUh ReAyL hAiYR".

~ ENTRY # 6 THOUGHTS ~

I imagined this pose being candid; after the photographer remarks how much Brandie's wig suits her, she tucks a strand behind her ear and casually crosses her arm across her front while peering through her lashes, like she's almost feigning being a wallflower in a moment's glance, and then it's gone.. "Oh, this old thing? Thanks! I just found it lying around!"

I decided that the Tawny-colored hairstyles/bangs I combined looked SO good with Brandie's eye color; it really makes them pop! I've been blonde before, though I'm naturallly a brunette. I loooooved my blonde hair. I really do miss it! It was so fun to go pink, because then the color it faded to would look sooooo pretty and pastel. It was so difficult to maintain, and while my hair has in fact recovered and we're thriving nowadays, I often had to change my hair to a more natural color at times, so I know how striking a difference of platinum blonde to brown can be, so I don't blame you if you have to take a moment to ensure you're looking at Brandie! sweatdrop But, for real, I was trying to keep her low-key in the very beginning, but I soon decided that was wrong, and I wanted her to look COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! So, that's how I chose the color and style!

I wanted a more subdued look initially, and to be honest I was planning on putting Brandie in flannel and making her an indie chick. Then, I got bored.

Things changed for the better when I discovered the Sincere color scheme, and saw all the roses! I am obsessed with flowers (who isn't?), and while I normally overlook red roses, I thought that her shaggy haircut in conjunction with the shade of red went so beautifully together that I had to lean into the romantic atmosphere. Brandie's expression lends itself to the overall vibe as well; she's serving emotion_dealwithit

I really love how this came out, from finding the perfect backdrop that doesn't interrupt the color scheme or composition in any way! I felt like I found my groove and it flowed from there. Also, I hope you enjoy the tasteful amounts of booty cheek I have proffered for you here today xd 3nodding

Challenge #7: Night of 1000 Icons
Entry #7 Title. Don't Let Them Take Your Power

Description: Designers, we thought it was time to pay tribute to those
that entertain us. We want to see your models dressed up like their favorite
pop icon! Now we know that pop icon is a broad definition, so we would like
you to pick a pop icon from this list. This should be fun! Can't wait to see all
these stars on the same red carpet.
Due Date: Oct. 26th

~ ENTRY # 7 THOUGHTS ~

Inspired by Stevie Nicks' recent release, "The Lighthouse".

"You don't have what you had; you don't have much time."
"I want to be the lighthouse, for all of you to gather."

There are so many lines from this that I could use to explain the level of down bad I am for this song right now! I grew up listening to Fleetwood Mac since before I could talk, and I'm obsessed with Stevie's unapologetic authenticity in standing up for her rights and beliefs. I knew when I saw her name, I had to pay homage. I'm very familiar with Stevie's aesthetic; layers of feminine lace accented with more traditionally masculine sorts of garments, like suit jackets or capes/cloaks. I personally adore this juxtaposition (as I've mentioned a billion times in my earlier entries lol). I enjoyed the challenge of layering the garments while trying desperately to not make it look inscrutable sweatdrop

I wanted the whole look to tie back in to the symbolism of the Lighthouse (I found only one background that I really liked which also had a lighthouse in the back, clearly visible). In the music video, the literal definition of a Lighthouse is shown, but in the lyrics i quoted above, Stevie is singing about herself being a beacon for women who have had their rights taken away or compromised as they were when Roe v. Wade was repealed. She says "for all of you to gather", because lighthouses are beacons in the night/stormy weather for ships/weary travelers to seek shelter.

The line "You don't have what you had, you don't have much time" is what made me choose this hat for Brandie's look. I was going to use an armmod which also came with a huge hourglass, but I felt it covered up way too much of the outfit. Plus, sooooo many of Stevie Nicks' iconic looks throughout the years involved similarly styled hats. Plus, not gonna lie -- it perfectly hides the hanging lantern behind Brandie's head! xd

I'm so sorry for making you all wait so long, but thank you for giving me grace. I appreciate your patience, and I sincerely hope you enjoy the entries I have created for you. heart

Wig? what Wig?

User Image

I’ll be honest I was waiting for this challenge for a bit now I love Raven but I was hoping for a change to her hair at least this once! Red is great to play with but especially her shade of red isn’t visually neutral like some of the other models. Every model has challenges and Ravens is definitely her hair! not that I can’t work with it (I think I’ve done a good job working with her!) but it felt nice to get a challenge where I could play around without it.

it’s been really tough for me because I dyed my hair every 4 to 6 months since I was in 5th grade. The benefit of being a hairdressers daughter means it wasn’t a cost issue and my mom was very relaxed about letting me do whatever occasionally god awful thing I wanted to mine. Raven is a great model and her hair is part of her appeal but I think this challenge really shows that her beauty and uniqueness is so much more than that!

Raven is on set for her photo shoot but her hair is horrible it’s like she slept in a pile of glue and her stylist won’t be able to fix it! Thank god she has a friend who does incredible wigs! sure showing up to set looking different than you did at casting is normally a bad move but Raven looks so good they inspire a whole new direction for the shoot! Now future clients can see from her portfolio that Ravens not a one trick pony she can pull off any hair.

She's so unusual!

User ImageUser Image

so I was worried about this second look because I really wanted to pick a star off the list who had famously had red hair. I love lots of musicians on the list given but I was worried that i wouldn’t be able to capture them on Raven. I narrowed it down to two and while Florence Welch has hair in my opinion more similar to Ravens wavy red locks I just couldn’t deny the appeal of Cyndi Lauper!

Cyndi is so well know for her clashing outlandish fashion and I wanted to showcase that on Raven! Cyndi loves layers and mesh and colors and beads and hair pieces if you have ever seen an 80’s pop star costume it was probably based on Cyndi’s style.

I specifically based this look off of photos of her in purple skirt that she is lifting up and posing with. (I’d add the photo but I can’t from my phone) I also popped on Girls just wanna have fun and She Bop to feel my way into this look! The background of the street I chose is based on the opening of girls just wanna have fun where Cyndi is walking and dancing back into her parents house.

I also pick the fireworks effect because I felt it captured Cyndis 80’s hair which was spiky with yellow pieces on the side. The fireworks also felt very Cyndi who is playful and cheerful!

For the clothing itself I layered three or four skirts or dresses two shirts a necklace and a belt I think in order to get the layered look just right! I went back and forth with different colors but I insisted on keeping red and purple based on the reference photo and wanting to play off Ravens hair. I was also so lucky to find the headband that layered with her hair in this way it doesn’t cut or add to her hair it just goes under that little bit of bangs and it looks so 80’s I was obsessed!

Lastly I know the make up is a little distracting but that was super important to the look as well Cyndi always did wild colored and sometimes geometric eyeshadow looks so by necessity I had to add some strong make up!

I hope you guys love the look and I swear when I get home I’ll add a link to my reference photos! I would try now but it’s 11:30 here and I want to make sure I got this all in and didn’t waste time learning to add links from my phones web browser!

✧ Challenge: #6 - Model Makeover
✧ Outift Title: Date Night
✧ Description:

When choosing a wig for Eryn, I tried to find something that would flatter her looks and' match her personality — or at least the personality I imagine she has.

Eryn's eyes come with ear piercings, which sadly overlay on her original hair. With that, I assumed Eryn must be a little punk-ish by nature. I tried to find a wig that would show off her ear and the piercings while giving her more of that naughty girl look. I also really liked the two-tone hair vibe, I think it looks great on her!

Outfit-wise I opted for more of a casual look — a leather jacket, ripped jeans, sneakers, and two t-shirts overlaid to create a cool effect. I threw in some colourful accessories to add a splash of colour to her fit and liven the whole image up — bright sunglasses, earrings, pins on her jacket.

For her background, I would like to imagine she's preparing to go out somewhere, maybe on a date or a meeting with a friend and leaving her apartment.

─┉┈•●•✧•●•┈┉─

These two challenges were some of the worst for me, not because of the prompts, but because I got sick. Most likely I have covid. I haven't been really in the creative mind space and I struggled to get out of bed. orz

✧ Outift Title: Vulnicura
✧ Description:

This time Eryn is dressed up as the well-loved icon Björk! The outfit that inspired me was worn by her in 2015 in Iceland, it was created by David Ferreira and James Merry.

To recreate the dress I put Eryn into a combination of different items - she's wearing an undersuit, and lace bodice, over which she has a top, and then over the top, I put a shell bra. Then of course the puffiest skirt I could find! That lace bodice was the main inspiration as it had the perfect medici collar look. Next, I put her in red stockings and found the closest-looking shoes possible. On her face, she of course has a lace facemask and a white lace-ish crown, which makes it look like she has a much bigger mask than she does in actuality. Her sleeves are a bit longer than on the original outfit, but I think they still convey a similar majestic vibe. As there was no way for me to add pearls to her dress, I opted for tiny white sparkles, which kind of looked similar.

The background is meant to look like a stage and of course, Eryn is in front of a microphone. :'D

Inspiration (during the concert Björk had different masks, but I prefer the lace collar/mask combo!) :

Cheska was for sure not going to miss a shoot over a bad hair day. As there was unfortunately no wig that could be found to match her lovely maple color.
Pecan was a lovely addition to her coming shoot as the soft brown went well with the gold and teal colors she'd be showcasing.
I really felt the elegant updo really works well with Cheska's face and enhances her best features. I had a braid chosen originally but it was not reading well with the pose.
This was the natural color I felt worked best for her and was most convincing in the eyes of on-lookers.

For our icon, Aretha Franklin fits the bill perfectly. Such an iconic woman I believe I could embody with Cheska.
Taking the most inspiration from her look when she performed 'Respect' for a live audience. At the same time, giving her a more modern look for her tribute. I took some extra inspiration from the outfits and fashion she took on in her early years of singing in the 60's and 70's.
She is gorgeous in everything from sophisticated and sweet to showing her true queen presence in fur, feathers, embroidered dresses, and textures to define her looks. In Cheska's look, I tried to bring out a little bit of that nature with the modern flair.

Designer: bloodangel95

Outfit Title:
I dare you
User Image

Description:
For this challenge from the start I knew I wanted a hair with straight bangs and a hair that was mostly away from Raine's body as her long hair is typically covering a part of her body. I did however go back and forth with what color I wanted her wig to be. I changed depending on how that outfit was coming along, it made me appreciate the fact that we have set features we don't have to worry about typically.
For this challenge I also wanted to avoid a skirt or a dress since that is what I have mostly shown so far. I came across this jacket awhile back and really like it but I haven't styled it at all, so I took this chance to do so and created this look with Raine and the jacket in mind. I found this two layer top combo that I love early on in the creating process. The silver necklace also came with one of the tops and I liked it as well.
Now for the pants/legs/shoes I spent most of my time on them! I probably went through hundreds of them! Each time I settled on one thing, I would consider changing them. It didn't help that I found quite a few that went well with what I had so far. In the end I went with these because of the color. Originally the outfit was more of a biker chick aesthetic feel, I had a lot of black and silver with pops of color. The glasses being one of those pops of color I really wanted to maintain in my final look. At the same time I wanted more color in the outfit so I switched the jacket color and went for color in the legs, the beanie as well. I paired the legs with a silver/black belt to go with the top.
For the makeup I went for a pink and purple combo for the eyes. Pink to go with her lips and purple for her headphones keeping with the cool color tones. You can see the purple but not so much the pink because of the glasses unfortunately. I still kept the glasses because it completed the look for me.
makeup without sunglasses.
User Image

When it comes to the background from the start I wanted a roof top, somewhere cool to hangout and a great place for a photoshoot. I tried different ones but I kept coming back to the roof top idea. I stuck to this roof top best because of the beam structure. For a great picture a photographer and model need to go to great lengths to get the best picture! Wearing a wig, posing on a beam, wearing sun glasses at night, and revealing skin even if it’s cold -- are all challenges you have to take on. Now don't ask me how they got trees up there, I do not know, but they look great for this fall look, even the floating leaves!

Btw the floor/beam in the background reminded me of glass floors! I have always wanted to visit a place where I can look straight down from a tall height.

Description:
A crop top is a must for a Shakira look, something sexy and flattering. I picked out this white crop top because I like the V shape and it paired well with the necklace.
For the bottom she loves to wear jeans, she has been known to wear jeans, even on red carpets, but if not jeans a mini skirt. I did in fact give her a mini skirt at first but looking at her music videos I liked her look in the song La La La, a song she did for Copa America.

She is in complete black in the video to bring out and highlight all the colorful flags from participants in the background. I had a black skirt with this look, but I wanted some color, and shakira looks amazing in red! She is actually wearing a red bellow knee length skirt in one of her most famous songs Hips don't lie too

Accessories. She is known for wearing a blinged-out waist belt with her outfits. I gave Raine a three band gold waist belt because it pops with the red skirt. I paired it with a gold necklace featuring an emerald green stone, and blue/red bead earrings. Latin American is very vibrant in colors and I wanted to bring out her roots through those colors in the accessories.
Now if you look closely you can see just the tip of her toes. I gave her bare feet from the start, but I also discovered that shakira founded The Barefoot Foundation, also known as Fundación Pies Descalzos. The foundation helps poor and impoverished children in Colombia have the most basic of necessities like shoes. She founded it right after she braked into the music world, not even at her peak! Amazing.
Her legs.
User ImageUser Image

I created a background scene that reference several of her music videos but mostly Whenever, Whenever, but added a pool for Raine to dance with her bare feet, and make a splash. One of her arms are up and one down, a mid dance pose. I also like the hands because it makes it seem as if she was hold on to the helm of her skirt dancing and then she just let it go, the skirt has a flounce up in that direction too. Now I added the colorful halo because I like the colors. Like I said Latin America is known for its rich colors, the colors you see here are colors you would see there in traditional outfits but also buildings.
Lastly her makeup shakira likes minimal makeup or a no-makeup, natural soft tones, wear black eye liner that bring out her eyes, and defined brows.
I gave Raine an additional a red/orange around her eyes to draw viewers to her eyes more.

૮⍝• ᴥ •⍝ა Happy Fall Y'all!

Hello and thanks for having me again everybody,

I present Luz in a very feminine, fall themed portrait! She is locking eyes with the camera like nothing else outside of it exists, huh? You'd almost never know what she's hiding underneath those huge and ultra-fluffy looking afro puffs... ahem, uh, anyway,

Weirdly enough, this build started as like, a little sheep girl? Originally, the fluffy peep sheep dress + plus the bangs with long pieces + the big puffy wig kinda of created a sweet, sheep look. After some tweaking though I decided to use a pin cutter to cut the bangs and make them look more natural with the headpiece ribbons (like her bangs are actually pinned with the ribbons, while the longer pieces fall to the sides). She's sitting in a frame that I thought works really well with the autumnal pots legs. There are flowers behind the frame because I wanted to tone down the roughness of the wooden frame and break up all of the brown. Freckles and earthy toned makeup were used to warm up her face and kinda tone down her eyes.

This look definitely exhibits a lot of my own personal style. Although I still did my best to be more fashion forward than I would normally be (A green background vs a plain background so small details like the flowers behind the frame pop, making sure colors are evenly represented and that nothing is jarring, etc). Being a double header (along with my mom breaking her ankle IRL and being her only caretaker now lol) presented some challenge, and I wondered if maybe my looks are too simple, but in the end after looking at them over and over I'm happy with them! I was wrong to try and rush <3

Presenting Luz cosplaying as... Courtney Love!
User ImageUser Image

For challenge 7, I knew I wanted to choose one of the pop icons that could mesh with Luz's unique hair color. After looking through the choices, I became more and more fond of attempting Courtney Love based on that!

Courtney Love's style is very grungey and free, and it seems like in every pic of her she's sporting a guitar and rocking a leg up pose. Due to Luz's emoteless face though, I decided to keep the guitar but with a sort of "we are about to start" pose, not a "mid performance" pose. Courtney Love's pictures always seem to have her with a bright red lipstick and a bright guitar. Since I couldn't alter Luz's lipstick, she got a bright blush. And of course then naturally a bright red guitar seemed like a good fit. It's hard to tell, but she is wearing a black slip dress with a relatively simple black cardigan layered on top, ripped up stockings, and bangles. Even though I couldn't do many arm mods because of the guitar, I did manage give her a hand mod for prettier hands than the OG Gaia hands.

The musical heart is for fun. Because her name is Love. I think it's sweet redface

Anyway, I spent most of my time cycling through slip dresses and layering different tops, going back and forth between the avi builder and pictures of her concerts, trying to find the best fit. I'm still not sure she's a ringer for Courtney Love, but I had a lot of fun trying to make Luz as close as I could get.

P.S. the back of the avi actually shows the details of her slip dress really well, and it doesn't look weird, so I decided to include it.

Thanks again y'all!

Eunwoo in Moon Princess

Mew's Thoughts:

Judges and Fellow Designers,

As soon as I saw this prompt I knew what I was doing, giving Eunwoo long, flowing hair, but in what context? I though for a while, perhaps something in a diffeent era? or rapunzel-esque? then it hit me.

I wanted to honor my roots and Eunwoo's by doing something asian-inspired, which lead me to the idea of making a Moon princess like in old folklore, but mixed with a different style of clothing than we'd normally see to spice it up and give myself a challenge instead of just putting her in something like a kimono.

I landed on soft blues like the Dandeloin color scheme cause it seems so ethereal and soft, making her feel almost otherworldly to me. I love my final design and I hope you do as well.

Mew

Eunwoo in Post Punk

User Image

Mew's Thoughts:

Judges and Fellow Designers,

Picking an icon I could transform Eunwoo into was a challenge but I ADORE Siouxsie Sioux. She is truely deserving of the word icon, expecially in the post-punk scene! For this look, we chose to honor her.

There's a few things I think of when I see Sioxsie Sioux, but none so much as her style. The use of material like fishnets and leathers is so iconic to her it just makes sense to use them here.

The other thing I think of is her absolutely command of the stage and general badass-ness I wanted to give Eunwoo some dark make up to put her in the same world, and then pose her next to the bike to give her look an edge. I still wanted SOME pops of color though, so I chose to do that with the bike.

PLEASE listen to her if you havent, she's truely incredible and I loved relistening to her while making this outfit.
Yours,
Mew

Model: Serena // Title: Full Bloom
User Image
Description: Once I found the perfect wig for Serena, the rest just fell into place like a flower blooming. I thought this look was so sweet and innocent. Serena looks so good into a dark curly hair style and this look screams natural beauty. I pieced together her dress from the bottom up and built the rest of the photoshoot around her look. I asked Serena to pose sweet, simple, and comfortable, and she gave me this cute, shy picture. Rested atop an old bench in a garden, she truly embodies a flower in full bloom.

Her wig! Omg, I loved styling her in buns (because that's my go to style so I'm bias) and l laid her edges to be more realistic. I kept her makeup simple with some fake freckles, light blush, mascara, and filled in her eyebrows for a fuller natural brow look. I added baby pink, mint, and gold accent pieces: her hair pins, her neck piece, and her gold arm band, to compliment the embroidery on her dress. I really enjoyed styling her in this challenge! But I've enjoyed (difficult time or not) styling her in every challenge so far.

Designer's Note: Thank you so much for the extension on this and the next challenge! It was killing me knowing that I already had Serena's look and photoshoot finished but didn't have time to write a description for her.

Model: Serena // Title: Bright Like a Diamond
User Image
Description: Serena and I squealed at this challenge because we both love Rihanna! We kind of giggled because we both thought "Ooo, costume party time!" Of course we thought of Rihanna's biggest hit "Umbrella". What's more iconic than Umbrella! Everyone knows this song and even other celebs have dressed up as Rihanna in this classic 2007 hit. In just three years shy of two decades, Rihanna has had numerous top charting albums, released a gorgeous beauty line, stylish clothing line, and has become a mother of two. To Serena and I, Rihanna is THE icon. I chose the title from a different Rihanna hit because you have to be strong like a diamond and smart/ 'bright' to accomplish what Rihanna has.

For the look! I tried my best to piece together what would resemble Rihanna's leotard from her "Umbrella" look. From the gloves to the fishnets and heels, I've copied the buttons down to the white trim at the base of the leotard. I've slicked Serena's hair back to emulate Rihanna's hair and for makeup I gave Serena some thicker false lashes, a smokey eye, and Rihanna's classic red lip. For accessories Serena just has small white pearl earrings and is posing with- well of course, an umbrella! I know this photoshoot tired Serena out because I kept spraying water for the kind of sparks-looking-rain from the music video and she had to be careful on set, and I know she was so ready to get all that hair gel and makeup off! I also used lighting and props to best I could replicate the Umbrella music video.

Inspiration pictures from the Umbrella music video.

Designer's Note: Thank you once again for the extension! Hopefully the looks Serena and I have provided were even moderately worth the wait. Regardless we had so much fun and are wishing everyone good luck!

Feedback

Winner: Detrimentum — Eryn
• This was a home run, Detri! You accomplished something here that no other Designers could do: You drastically changed Eryn's appearance, without
really changing her appearance. No, this hair fit your Model like a glove, and it was a good idea to give it a punk theme. Everything complimented each other.
• The only thing that held the image back was the choice of background. The Judges unanimously agreed that the darkness was choking
out the lower half of your Model. Some advice would be to build backgrounds through layered decor rather than using a wall-to-wall canvas.

• Every single Judge fell in love with your soft and delicate approach to the garment. This hair choice was paramount in transforming
Serena from a harder-looking, mature adult, into a youthful Goddess. And damn, does your Model wear pastels nicely! Good job.
• The skirting is transparent just enough that the Judges were able to make out the awkward looking legmod below, which took them out
of the fantasy a bit. As well, at least some marks were removed due to the equipment of freckles, which ARE classified under base traits.

Princess Warfare — Brandie
• You carried out your motif with absolute mastery. From the well-written description that details your thought process, to the end
result, you came with precision. And props for the hair choice — that shade isn't always easy to deal with, but you managed it.
• Speaking of colour scheme, that was also where your critiques mostly landed. While the overall effect is desirable, you start to notice funny details the
closer you look. The sleeves, for example, are almost blinding compared to the other muted light tones, especially when paired with the dark framing.

BloodAngel95 — Raine
• Stylistically speaking, the Judges generally loved what you had to offer up with Raine. The laidback, outdoorsy vibes that radiate
from the photo really nail home your attention to detail. Your description (albeit long) was also a big selling feature to your design here.
• The details you poured into your artwork are both blessing and curse, because not every choice you made was viewed favourably. For example, the shade of Raine's
jacket is a bit off. Contrast is great, but that one goes just a bit too far. As well, the glasses seemed unanimously disliked, and the headphones were questionable to some.

FaithEmblem — Luz

• Most of the Judges loved your wig choice, as it was the last thing anyone would have expected to see on Luz, and you did a good job styling it to fit the theme.
The image, as a whole, was widely praised, but where you really stood out was in your description. Had it been just a bit shorter, it would have been perfect.
• The concept is well-realized, but the execution comes across as very simple. Perhaps a bit TOO simple. Also, the colour choice for background
is questionable. One Judge used words like 'drab' and 'monotony'. It would have helped you greatly if you'd built the background with brighter decor.

the purple mew — Eunwoo
• One Judge was so thrilled with your entry, that they publicly declared it their favourite from this week's batch. Also, it's essential
to mention that every Judge was intrigued by your concept, and were only too happy to see a portrayal of a moon princess.
• Eunwoo's hair isn't coming across the way the Judges wanted, nor the way you intended. It's a bit distracting, and adverse to some of the equipped items. It was also commented that it
was a missed opportunity not to tinker around with any other background decor. The other thing that really brought you down was the description, is it provided none of your thought process.

Serena-of-Limonium — Raven
• Your entire approach to this challenge was wholly unique and quite unexpected. The Judges simply loved the
Bollywood-esque themes you incorporated into your outfit. Most critiques praised you for your use of brightly-hued colours.
• The overall effect of the image reads as messy, and it could have benefited from editing, and a bit of finesse. The Judges also weren't sold on the hair, as it's a bit basic, and
leaves Raven looking like she has a fivehead. Sadly, what tanked your score most was your description, which avoided mention of EVERYTHING we wanted or needed to know.

Eliminated: Kr-E — Cheska
• The colour scheme you chose went over really well in the Judges' Panel. Shades of teal, with pops of white, gold & black?
Simply beautiful. The colours complimented Cheska's skin nicely, and gave her a softer look than is normally seen from her.
• This wasn't your best work by a long shot, Kr-E. The effort put into this submission reads as being meager at best. Maybe it was the double header that threw you for a loop, but
the Judges are concerned. However, the criteria that really sank your scores were from that abysmal description, which sorely lacked any answers as to 'how' or 'why' your choices.

Challenge #7
Night of 1000 Icons
Feedback

Winner: excites — Serena
• Girl, you killed it this week! Of all the icons your’s was the most immediately
recognizable for who she was supposed to be. You did well in both entries
this week, and got high points for your description.
• The thing that cost you points was changing the lip color and slicking back
the hair, some judges felt like it flirted with the rules a bit too much. It was also
missing a spark to make it special and unique to you.

Princess Warfare — Brandie
• Stevie Nicks was an unexpected pick for Brandie, but you made us all
believers! You used your description well to make sure everyone got on the
same page with the references, and you were smart with those details. We all
really liked the over all vibe and composition.
• Where we had disagreements are on how dark it is, especially between
Brandie and the background. Some judges felt you used varying shades of
black to your advantage, and others felt like we would have liked something
to separate the two more.

Detrimentum — Eryn
• Björk was an unexpected but delightful choice of icon! Some judges clocked
her immediately, others needed the reference pictures, but all agree you did a
great job bringing her to life.
• The white around the head bordered on too much, and we needed more
from the description. Why did you choose this icon? Give us an insight on
your feelings about it.

FaithEmblem — Luz
• This was a good ode to Courtney Love and over all the judges really loved
the heart detail! A lot of details were really strong actually, from the heart to
the filter to make it feel like we were recording (or watching a recording) of our
favorite performance.
• While you felt that Luz’ expression was limiting to a more static pose, we
didn’t agree. The pose was just too stiff and lifeless, and not enough power
that we think of when we think of Courtney Love. Maybe creating a look for
the end of the performance when she was mussed up would have sold better.

BloodAngel95 — Raine
• Shakira is certainly an icon, but perhaps not the one best suited for Raine.
You put in so many references to her and her videos, and explained them all
in the description so well that we were all believers by the end.
• The description was also your biggest downfall. From explicitly telling us
Shakira doesn’t wear much make up and giving so much to Raine, to
including an alternative version of the look with details like the visible bare
feet that we preferred to the official submission and thus dimmed that look,
the description highlighted the best and worst of the look. Be very mindful of
that in the future. Anything you include in the submission will have an impact.

Eliminated: Serena-of-Limonium — Raven
• Cyndi raised a generation on the idea that girls just want to have fun, to be
quirky and unique and utterly yourself, and we see all of that in Raven.
• That said…this is a fashion competition, and this look was just too extra and
messy. It needed refinement. The fireworks were the biggest thing that we
didn’t like. But over all there was just too much! Remember to take a step
back and try to look at the look through a fashion lens, but also, the pixelated
limitations of Gaia. Too many details and pieces on an avatar just become a
blurry mess.

the purple mew — Eunwoo
• There was a lot in this that was good, especially starting by choosing a
lesser known icon. We love learning and representation! And we saw this
icon in your design, kudos on that.
• As one judge put it “that’s not to say that mew didn’t hit her goal, more so
wishing mew aimed higher.” There was a lot of room to put in more and
enhanced details. Even something as simple as different fishnets would have
been a step up. Not having the bike be the only pop of color. This felt like a
first draft of the look, and it just needed some finessing to get to the final draft
you’re capable of.

Kr-E — Cheska
• The spirit of Aretha Franklin was in this look, and you chose colors that were
very flattering both on Cheska, and together. In general this look was cute
and fun!
• It just didn’t all come together. The striped legs ended up more distracting
than beneficial, and the blue/teal shorts just added a strange pop. Things
were too simple and too much at the same time. But the biggest place you
lost points was the description, we needed more of every aspect.
